My T61 reboots after i hybernate (while on AC power) - Help!

I just purchased a new T61, which I'm very happy with.
While my laptop is docked, if I hybernate, my PC shuts off and then automatically reboots.
So I'm forced to hold down the power button on the dock in order to shut off my computer.
Anyone else experiencing this problem?  Plz help!!

@Corvette2010
Disable anything which has to do with waking unless you need it.
@George

  • Cannot reboot after 7.1.1 upgrade...help!

I just downloaded the latest upgrade 7.1.1 to my Imac desktop. My computer restarted on its own in safe mode. After watching the 'gray bar' complete its process for 20-30 minutes, my computer shut down automatically. After several attempts, it will not reboot, just repeat the same process. I restarted in recovery mode and used my Disk Utility checking my volume using repair disk with nothing noteworthy...still no luck.
Anyone having similar issues after recent upgrade? Anyone have a solution for me??? Please!?

The iOS is for iDevices and will not run on a Mac computer.
The Mavericks OS X 10.9.2 is the latest system available to Mac.
There was a security update a few days ago, for several items.
So you must be referring to something other than the OS X.
What does 'About this Mac' say?
Did you try SafeBoot, or use OS X Utilities to run Disk Utility
and repair disk/repair disk permissions, to check/fix startup?
It may need more, depending on what is really going on.
    Details are everything.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Fresh Win7, freeze while rebooting after video driver installation

Yesterday when I opened my laptop it froze while booting when the Win7 logo appears. Rebooted in safemode, all was good, didn't know what to look for exactly.
Today, I decided it was time for a new Win7 reinstall so I did it. Also, did a complete format of my SSD where I keep only my OS.
While it was rebooting after installing the AMD video driver it froze again, in the same spot. Restarted the laptop, chose last known good config and noticed in device manager that one of the video cards had error 43 (Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43))
I tried to install the driver for Intel then, but I got an error saying my laptop does not have the minimum requierments (even for older versions of the driver)
I tried every possible combination of installing, uninstalling, enabling, disabling one of the cards.
When I install the AMD driver, the Intel driver installs itself too.
When I leave AMD graphics  enabled, it freezez at Win7 logo while booting,
When I disable AMD and leave just Intel enabled, then it boots normally, but right after the reboot, device manager shows them both with yellow triangle and "!" with error "This device cannot work properly until you restart your computer. (Code 14)", and of course, if I reboot then it freezes again.
I have already spent 10h on this and couldn't find a way to fix it.

    Hi
Using Advanced boot options  ( F8 at start up )  go into Safe Mode with Command prompt , Once Safe mode loads with command prompt type      rstrui.exe           hit Enter   ....        This will take you into  System Restore ...  Follow the onscreen instructions to Restore your system to the time  before the AMD driver was installed .    You can choose from multiple restore points  if they have been created by you or your system .
                                                      Post me your Findings

  • SIM card not recognised after upgrade to latest IOS apple staff helped reboot lost very treasured photos then backed up compt before trying to find them so say have overwritten back up so now lost forever Is this true Sim blamed on hardware ? True

    I have a DM*******FJ3 iPad
I put a SIM card in it and it worked beautifully
I went away the sim does not work abroad and updated the management programme while away
When I came back the sim wouldn't work and when rebooted after update an error message no SIM appeared and it has been there since
I booked an Apple review at the shop in lakeside they were unable to find a fault said it was a hardware problem and I would need to buy a new iPad
I then phoned apple apple help who talked me through a reset
At the reset a lot of photos of the birth of my granddaughter went missing the albums they were in was missing
I then booked an appointment at Genius Bar in covent garden
They backed up the computer on arrival
Their conclusion was the photos lost forever as the back up had overwritten the backed up photos that hasn't downloaded properly when reinstating backup
The pins in the iPad drawer for the sim are broken and I need a new iPad
Apart from being furious that despite apple knowing the problem was about lost photos they have by their actions lost them
The sim stopped working without the drawer being opened
The only people to open the drawer since it stopped working are apples employees  so if pins are broken apple has broken them and still haven't identified the more likey software problem that stopped the sim working as it happened afte an update
It is impossible to visualise the pins in the SIM card slot I have tried with an ophthalmoscope and can't see them so how an Apple employee can see with his naked eye is beyond  me
This seems to be a problem with this iPad as the net is littered with problems regarding this fault so I'm sure Apple know about it
My friend with a company use of these iPads has had several develop this problem and they have been replaced as staff have admitted to him it is a known fault
Wy should so done have one level of truth compared to another
Staff should not lie just to get someone out of a shop if they really don't know the answer
I feel I have highlighted several staff training issues and would like some reassurance that action is being taken about this don't seem to be able to find a way to complain to Apple Anyone know how?
There is an obvious problem with the SIM card comparability in this iPad I believe a software problem and would to know if it is actually being addressed and when a new update comes out will it ever work again or do I really have a useless piece of equipment now?
Are my photos really lost as staff have been useless at everything else I can't help but hope they don't know a retrieval route for this either
    Any help very grateful

Actually, I'm sorry.  I just re-read your post and you were certainly clear.  I somehow got it in my head you set up the new phone from iCloud backup.
Since you've had the phone one week (I hope I got that right at least?) you are entitled to technical support directly with Apple.  I'd either call them (1-800-MY-APPLE) or schedule a meeting at the Genius Bar at your Apple Store.  I'm sorry I can't be more helpful.

  • Fix for continuous reboot after installing Service Pack 3 in Windows XP

After contacting HP Technical Support and speaking to a supervisor we were able to solve the problem of Windows continuously rebooting after installing SP3. Here are the steps that fixed the problem with my HP Pavilion running on an AMD processor. The steps are actually fairly straight forward and easy....
Issue: The computer reboots continuously after installing Windows XP service pack 3
Computer reboots continuously after installing Windows XP service pack 3 on AMD systems. The problem is that with some configurations, SP3 causes the computer to crash during boot, and Windows XP, by default, is set up to automatically reboot when it crashes. That is why you end up in the endless rebooting scenario.
    Cause:
On HP computers, the same Windows installation disc image for Intel processor based PC's is deployed for the AMD processor based computers as well. Because the original installation image for both Intel and AMD is the same, all have the intelppm.sys driver installed and running. That driver provides power management on Intel-based computers. On an AMD-based computer, amdk8.sys provides the same functionality for power management.
    Symptoms:
Ordinarily, having intelppm.sys running on an AMD-based computer appears to cause no problems. However, on the first reboot after a Service Pack 3 installation, it causes a big problem. The computer either fails to boot, or crashes with a STOP error code of 0x0000007e.
You may not see the error code because the computer reboots too fast. In order to get the error message, you need to set an option during startup. To do so, open the windows advanced menu by tapping the f8 key on startup. Then select the "Disable automatic restart on system failure" option.
    Solution:
If you have an AMD-based computer, however, you do not need the intelppm.sys driver and can disable it. There are three methods in order to do this.
Step 1: Please try to log on the system in safe mode.
    1. While using Safe mode open the command prompt....  Start, All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt
Run the following command in the command prompt just like it's typed: sc config intelppm start= disabled
    Step 2:
If the issue persists, please try to log on or boot the system in recovery console (refer to the web document)
    2. Using recovery console:
If you booted into the recovery console, from a command prompt, type: disable intelppm
Step 3: Please check in registry.
    3. Using windows registry:
    1. Run regedit
    2. Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    3. From the File menu, select "Load hive"
    4. Navigate to %systemdriver%\Windows\System32\Config on the dead system and select the file name System
    5. Name it something you can remember, such as "horked"
    6. Navigate to horked\ControlSet001\Services\IntelPPM
    7. Double click the Start value and set it to 4
    8. If you did what I did and completely messed things up by running a disk check previously, navigate to ControlSet001\Control\SessionManager. Open the BootExecute value and clear out the autochk entries.
    9. Repeat steps 6-8 for the other control sets.
    10. Reboot

For future reference: Service pack 3 Installation steps:
Before installing the service pack 3 update, please follow the steps listed above and save yourself much time and effort.
To uninstall service pack 3, I suggest that you uninstall it from add/remove programs.

Uninstall service pack 3 from add/remove programs:
    1. Click Start.
    2. Select Run.
    3. Type appwiz.cpl in the run field.

    9. Click Yes. It will help you to remove or uninstall the installed programs from add and remove programs.
Step 2: If the issue persists, I suggest you to perform system restore and then try to install the service pack 3 after performing the steps mentioned above in regards to removing the intelppm.sys Driver.

I hope this helps someone who is having this problem. It sure took me a minute to get it all figured out. :0)

Still useful as of 12/30/11. Have ten Lenovo 5042 computers with downgrade licenses to run XP and have a ghosted image from another Lenovo 5042 having and Intel cpu. My target computers all have AMD cpus in them and the image would continuously reboot on
    the AMD computers.
Used method 1 and it cleared the problem instantly, many thanks for the post and the time and effort it took to dig up the answer..

  • Windows XP hard crash reboot after login

I've seen a few topics about this, but none of them with solid regression info yet so i'm starting this thread. I hope some of you out there can help out, but I fear the answer is that were all screwed.
    SUMMARY:
Windows XP will hard crash (reboot) just after login after loading the UI and during the loading of network components. This then results in the system rebooting into a black screen with no standard windows debug. (which can be forced by F8) Hard shut down is required to restart boot process. This problem can also occur from a waking from sleep, and very rarely occurs at random. When its caused during normal operation its usually spawned on by pressing a button on the keyboard. It will occur randomly at startup, and will occur with Starup Disc set or Option Select. Rarely it will boot into windows XP on the first try, more often (over time) it will require 3-5 reboots to get into XP successfully. This problem isn't caused by the install of any software, instead it progressively gets worse over time. I have experienced this problem with BootCamp 1.3, 1.4 and 2.0 on my MacBook Pro 2.16, but I have never experienced it with my Mac Pro ever which has the same OS and bootcamp installed.
I'm convinced it has something to do with the network drivers and how they are loading. I've noticed that the times it fails to boot that the WiFi and Local Area network icons aren't loaded in the system tray, and the times I have success getting into XP that they are already present when the UI is loading. This same behavior occurs on my Mac Pro and other PC clones, but they dont hard crash when this occurs. On them, you just have to wait for the network to be available.
    STEPS:
    0) MacBook Pro 2.16 17", Mac OS X 10.5.1, Bootcamp 2.0, Windows XP Pro SP2
    1) Power up
    2) Hold down Option (can set bootdrive as well)
    3) Select Windows
    4) Select a User (with password set)
    5) Enter password
    RESULTS:
Hard crash reboot just after UI loads while network compoents begin to load into the system tray.
    WORKAROUND:
    Shoot dog
    REGRESSION:
    Never occures on Mac Pro
    Occures with Bootcamp 1.3, 1.4 and 2.0
P.S. I'm writing this in Bootcamp

    UPDATE
I've gone into msconfig and turned off everything and have been starting up just fine, so it seams one of these items is cuasing the problem. I see that some people say its the keyboard manager, and I wouldn't doubt it now. So i'm going to leave everything off for now, make sure its always booting and then slowing rool items back on. I'll keep this up to date.
If you want to do this yourself, you can do it two ways.
    Built in:
    1) Click on the Start Button
    2) Select Run...
    3) type "msconfig" and hit OK
    4) Select the "Startup" tab
    5) Unselect everything you see there
    6) Close and reboot!
3rd party (the way i prefer)
    1) Get Spybot (the new one is awesome)
    2) install Spybot
    3) Run Spybot
    4) Update, immulize and scan (optional, but you will be surprised)
    5) Select the "Mode" menu option
    6) Select "Advanced mode"
    7) Select 'tools" on the lower left hand side
    8) Select "System Startup"
    9) uncheck all options.
    10) close and reboot!
Note: this appiaction is really great, and it will also install a device to watch for reg changes which is good for this sort of regression. Again, its not nessiary to install spybot, but i love it and have it on every PC i ever use and have never regretted it. IT WONT SLOW YOUR COMPUTER LIKE OTHER CRAPPY APPS. This is a very light and clean app.

  • Macbook Air constantly rebooting after installing Mavericks... this was my fix

Just in case this helps anyone.
I installed Mavericks on my Mac without an issue. When it restarted, my Mac would constantly reboot after a few minutes. It didn't matter if I logged in or not. I tried the various things that have been suggested (reset NVRAM, CMOS, running a disk check) but nothing help. If I booted into safe mode, I would not have any problems.
The issue ended up being some systems extensions in my /System/Library/Extensions folder. I had installed and deleted Trend Micro Smart Surfing a while ago by using the manual uninstall (move the application to the trash) which leaves the system extensions it had added intact (there was a Trend Micro folder in /System/Library/Extensions).
I reinstalled the software and then used the uninstaller that came with the program and after I rebooted, everything worked fine. I checked the /System/Library/Extensions folder and could see that the Trend Micro folder had been removed by the uninstaller.
I would suggest looking at the /System/Library/Extensions folder and comparing to what is in the applications folder. If you something in the extensions folder but not in the application one, you might be having the same type of issue that I was having.
    Alex

Startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys so you can access the built in utilities to repair the startup disk and restore OS X using OS X Recovery.

  • Ipad Generation 1 unresponsive/won't reboot after App update

My Ipad became unresponsive or it would not reboot after updating a few App's update. It would go into a black/purple screen mode (along the edges) with "no" apple logo. I tried the resetting method (top side button and home base button) and it did not reset. I tried resetting via itunes and I made sure that my Itunes was up to date but it still did not reset Ipad. I went on youtube and found out about a 'jailbreak' system known as 'redsn0w' and follow the instruction to break up whatever was causing my Ipad to become unresponsive. I believe this 'jailbreak' help to reboot the Ipad but I was not out of the woods just yet. For two weeks my Ipad was generating a "photo snap sound" when I tried rebooting the Ipad with the home base button. When connected to my macbook via iTunes it would also prompt or activate my iPhoto to load the photos from my Ipad. My Ipad 1 does not have a camera nor do I have an external (after market) one for that matter. The photo were the actual slide button to open the App's within the Ipad. I was baffled, confuse, and clueless. As I made several attempts to reset the Ipad It was still not displaying the apple logo and was not responding. I went back to 'redsn0w' to reboot and then reset it via Itunes to its original settings and later upload the latest firmware. While connected to my macbook, I was able to see all of my app's and began removing of them preferably Iphone app. I then decided hold off on the app's update and try to see if which of the App's was the culprit. It appears that the Ipad was confusing some or one of my "Iphone" app. I removed the iPhoto from the base of the Ipad and made it into a widgit with google earth. Then while viewing each of the app udate I saw that the "bump update" had something to do with photo. And it hit me, when I rebooted via Itune the first time the ipad rebooted but there was a brief moment where I tossed it on my back pack and it black out again. I then deleted this "Bump App" from the Ipad to prevent it from loading it lates update and I am happy to report the Ipad is now working properly. If you're not familiar with "Bump" this app is use with Iphone to exchage data/info from one iphone to another. I just now realize that you can also share photo wit "Bump" but not certain why this would cause this type of malfunction to my Ipad.
I don't know if this would help anyone out there but I would like to get the word out for anyone who may have this problem or situation. I welcome any other theory or better explanation because this is a conclusion that I came to.

  • 10.5.2 Feature causes machine to shutdown upon reboot after upgrade.

After upgrading to 10.5.2, the machine reboots, then after
a lengthy spinny gear on the up swing, it promptly turns itself off. Boot up several
times, same result. Boot into single user mode, run fsck, after clearing
the boot disk, fsck gives me an error of some non existent drive. New in 10.5.2:
"the computer will now shut down if an automatic disk repair does not succeed during startup."
Turns out i had an old entry in the /etc/fstab file ... silly me.
Anyway just passin that one on for all other forgetful folks.
    -miles

    OK,
I at least got the repair to work and it said there were no problems. I remember when I was waiting for the reboot after the 10.5.2 install that the fans went all crazy in my iMac and then settled down. I remember an issue a while back where this happened and it was because of the SMU... or System Management Unit. In older Macs it is called the PMU (Power Management Unit) so do a search for that if SMU doesn't bring anything up.
Resetting this usually resolves power related issues.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301733
The above link describes how to do it on the iMac G5... you may need to do a search in Apple Support for your particular Mac. Be sure to use the search field on the left of the screen, not in the Apple.com navigation bar at the top right.
Did you also try resetting your PRAM? You do that by restarting (or starting) the Mac. Press and hold CommandOption+PR all at the same time. Keep them held down until the computer restarts again. I just did this (and still haven't reset my SMU) and the Mac has not shutdown on me yet.
If it does start to shutdown randomly again I will reset the SMU and let you know how it goes.
    Good Luck!!

  • PCIe card not detected by Mac Pro after a short while...

    Hi guys,
Small problem... I bought a Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro PCIe capture card. Installed it in PCIe slot 4 (the top most slot, as this is the recommended slot by Blackmagic), installed the drivers, rebooted, updated the firmware, rebooted and finally installed their capture software called Media Express.
The first time I tried to open Media Express, it kept coming up with a message saying, "The Blackmagic hardware can not be found in your system. Please check the installaion." So I shut down, waited a minute and restarted. Tried opening Media Express immediately after the computer booted and I was able to open it. Awesome! Or so I thought anyway...
After a short while, maybe an hour or so, I tried to open Media Express again. It gave me that same message. So I restarted my Mac, opened Media Express and all was good again, until an hour or so. This happens without fail every time I restart. It will open at first, then after a short while the Mac doesn't see the card anymore. It's not just with Media Express either. It happens with Flash Media Live Encoder as well. Except FMLE opens fine but doesn't see the card's inputs.
I contacted support. They told me to put the card in the next slot down. Same thing happens. So I sent the card back. They tested it for a whole day and a half. They haven't had a single problem with it. They told me it must be my set up. I have no idea what it could be though... Is it possible my PCIe slots in my Mac are faulty? My video card works fine, but that's in slot 1.
Anyone have any idea what the problem could be? Any feedback would be much appreciated as I'm going out of my mind right now. Things can never be as simple as they seem. There's always something that gets in the way.
    Anyway, Thanks for reading.
    Regards,
    Daniel

Having the same problem with a UAD card.....
the consensus seems to be that I need to boot in 32 bit and hopefully that will sort the problem...
    about to try it...
strange thing is...it works in my old mac pro (which is currently set to boot default in 64 bit)

  • T400: auto reboot after poweroff

A confused problem occurs on my T400.
It automatic reboots after my t400 power off whatever I shut down by winos or I keep pressing the power button for a few seconds. I have updated BIOS to new latest version. I look up many web pages, but I couldn’t find out a way to fix it. Maybe my t400’s motherboard has damaged. Someone can tell me what problem has occurred on my t400.
moderator note: type added to subject line for clarity.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Currently i have no new ideas what it could be, but i'll check, if i can find something. another thing about the "reboot" i mentioned before: it may be the automatic reboot from windows, because i find the thinkpad t400 sometimes looks like it is shutdown, although it's rebooting, just had the experience that i wanted to reboot and just thought for a few seconds "ok, is it now shutdown or rebooting?!?", because ALL status leds were off, just as you mentioned, and then the lights turned on again and it did the wanted reboot... don't want to offend, but i think it might be confusing in realizing that it's rebooting instead of "suddenly turning on again".
Did you look into the logs of windows, if there was an error or something like that while shutting down?
I just thought about if there's a bios option for always on on after ac power loss... i recently had some trouble with an other pc, which didn't shutdown and just went on and on again, because it seemed the bios interpreted the shut down as ac power loss... just an idea.

I have FF installed on a network drive so it can be accessed from different machines with different profiles.
When I tried to upgrade to V 8 it demanded a reboot and now it no longer works.
If I try a reinstall it demands another reboot.
    What is going wrong?
Why on earth should installing a browser require a reboot, it never used to?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • E1000 won't reboot after power off

I have an E1000 installed. When I'm away for a while, I turn the power off to my modem and router to reduce electicity use. When I turn the power back on after returning, the E1000 will not reboot automatically. It will only reboot after I physically remove the power adapter cord from the E1000 body and reinsert it. Why doesn't it reboot automatically?

While turning on the devices, turn on the modem first. Wait for 1 minute and then turn on the router.
The router should reboot automatically when you turn it ON. However your router is not doing it automatically.

  • Two issues: iMac randomly reboots after watching Netflix, and left fan randomly turns on

Two issues: iMac goes into kernel panic and reboots after watching Netflix in HD, and left cooling fan randomly starts. Is this RAM or logic board?
    Specs:
    Model Name:          iMac
      Model Identifier:          iMac12,2
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i5
      Processor Speed:          3.1 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          6 MB
      Memory:          20 GB
      Boot ROM Version:          IM121.0047.B1F
      SMC Version (system):          1.72f2
The fan issue has been there for a while, but the kernel panics, AKA crash and reboots started after I got new Crucial RAM for the 2nd time (returned and replaced the two 8GB sticks, because the crashes were worse).  Are the chances that I got 2nd batch of RAM likely, or is there logic board issue here?

You should post the most recent panic report. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3742
