My tackpad don't respond to click after reinstall OS 10.5.7

Hello :)
I just finish your answers about tackpad problem and I tried all your suggestion.
The problem is
I had a mid 2009 macbook pro 13 inch with Leopard 10.5.8 OS
Yesterday I mad a decision to erase my HD and reinstall the OS again ( for no purpose ... Only I didn't do this before so I needed to re frish my Mac and would think for system upgrade )
I had the OS installing DVD with version 10.5.7 ( older than the original version on my Mac )
During the installation ; I noticed that the tackpad don't respond to any click .. Only move around normally with my moving finger but no response for clicking .. I assumed that this is normal during the installation process and will be OK after the finish .. So I used keyboard to complete the process
I realized after finishing that the problem still present ... I assumed that that is a software problem due to the older version I have or something ... So I reinstall the OS again but with the same problem
I searched the web for a solution and I noticed that a lot of people had the same problem when the upgrade the system ( that is similar to what I have )
I am afraid that it would be a hardware problem especially I live in a place with nearly no Mac expert or stores
What should I do ?!!!!!!!
Take in consideration that : the click was normally functioning before I reinstalled the OS .... Also I tried every solution from restart and SMS reset but with no response ... I didn't use a USB mouse yet and don't prefers to remove the battaries ...

hey BDAqua
please another request
every time i try the application installing dvd it gave me a message ( failed ) ... i tried it after update the OS
1 ...  is the upgrade maybe the cause of this message ( from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8 ) ???
2 ... is there is a way to reinstall this application bundle online from apple servers ?!!!
3 ... what are these applications ? are they very important to the OS ??
thank you in advance

  • Magic mouse - certain items don't respond to click!

I've had no problem with my Magic Mouse ever - Model MB829/LLA
Am running Imac with OS 10.5.8.
Today I saw a Magic Mouse Software update listed in Software Updates and innocently
enough I chose to install it.
Upon restart the Mouse will click and select items, but there is no response to the
command invoked by that 'click'  - ON CERTAIN ITEMS.  Also it will click on and
allow drag and scroll down say, a pop up menu, but for example when i click on the
minimize or close button on a window, it may or may not respond -  The wired mouse
operates fine doing the same event.  The new "Mouse" preferences pane also gives
no option - at least that I can see- for choosing which "side" of the front end of the
mouse, if that makes any sense...-per screenshot.  THe wired old Gateway mouse
i'm using right now still works normally btw. Any help or idea of what i'm missing here?
Thus far, not an improvement.  Thanks!
    Mike

Just adding another weird anomaly going on with it.  If I simply click on the finder window it displays this(screenshot below) dialogue box.
Now if i select one of the items it will perform the action of opening a new window but...for example, i can't DRAG anything to/from the
new window it opened...  or click/select certain items in this dialogue box.  There's no response...well it's varying with different commands.
    Very very strange

  • Gray Screen and Clicking after Reinstall of OS X

    Hi all,
Last night I was reinstalling OS X on my iMac G4 17" . I completed a clean install and had transfered over information using firewire. I received a message that everything except two programs were transfered over, no huge deal, but now my iMac will not boot. Upon turning the computer on I hear the OS X tone, then a second later the screen goes completely gray and a repeating cycle of two clicks can be heard coming from the dome. The Mac can't get past this state. I tried restarting several times, same result. When attempting to boot from the Tiger install disk the installation prompts show up but when its time to pick a drive destination for the install I have no options and am stuck at that point. All the while this same clicking noise can be heard.
I would welcome an advice on my next step.
    What we know:
-iMac was running fine before the reinstall
-Is able to start from disk but no hard drive is visible for a reinstall
-iMac still makes the OS X tone when turned one
-internal fan still spins up on start up
-after a second the iMac emits a 'clicking/beeping" noise when turned which continues until shut down, even when I can get the install screens to come up
-the noise coming from the dome sounds like a combination click and really old video game beep
-iMac is still covered under APP
Any advice would be appreciated as I live 3 hours from an authorized service center.
    Thanks in advance,
    Craig

Sounds like your hard drive failed. It shouldn't be too expensive to get another hard drive put in. But you will need to take it to your service center. This is not a repair any non apple person could do easily.

This morning the Iphone prompted me to update software. After that it said my phone was in recovery mode and I had the restore my phone. Now most of the apps are muted and don't respond, help!

First, in iTunes, launch Preferences and go to the Devices tab. Check the date and time of the last backup. If it is recent you can restore it. However, if you mean you have the photos back in your Camera Roll then the backup was already restored. To get your music and apps back it should just be necessary to click "Sync".

  • Firefox stops responding to mouse clicks after one click; am on iMac PPC G5,OS 10.4.11; this freeze happens with Logitech AND Mac mice.

About a month ago Firefox would stop responding to the clicks of my mouse after a click or two. Minimizing the page and reopening, or clicking off to another window and back, sometimes gives me another click or two but it always freezes again. I'm on an iMac G5 PPC (from around 2005) desktop running OS 10.4.11. I have a Logitech mouse and loaded a newer driver, and upgraded to Firefox 3.6.12 but the problem persists. I also tried running in Safe Mode but this did not fix the problem, and tried both the original Mac mouse and my Wacom tablet but neither fixes the problem.

Same problem FF3.6.13 WinXP. I had this before but it went away. Upgraded from Firebug 1.6.1 to 1.6.2 tonight and the problem returned; not sure if that's coincidence.
Weird thing is, it's not just that Firefox doesn't respond to the mouse clicks. The click goes right through Firefox to whatever's underneath. However, only the top FF window is affected. If I have two FF windows open, alt-tab into window A, then into window B (both maximised), then when window B stops responding the clicks are picked up by window A.
With window B not responding but over window A, if I click where window A has a SELECT, window A receives the mouse event and the OPTIONS appear over window B.
Only alt-tabbing to another non-Firefox window fixes the problem, and only temporarily.

  • I have  mac book pro. Since i updated to OS 10.8, I have experienced the following: many of the programs don't respond. Not able to transfer file (eg pdf file og movie (VLC)). Many of the processes seem to be less effective or won't respond.

I have a mac book pro. Since i updated to OS 10.8, I have experienced the following:
many of the programs don't respond.
Not able to transfer file (eg pdf file og movie (VLC).
The tech tool diagnostic software (as part of apple care protection plan) stops in the middle of scanning.

First, know that if you have any old PPC-only applications they will no longer work. You should uninstall them completely. Secondly, applications that don't work may require upgrades for compatibility with Mountain Lion. Thirdly, you may have a dysfunctional upgrade for which you should try this:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Clicking many links doesn't click after upgrading from FF3.6- 12- 15

All over the web, I click various links, some work, some don't. The links themselves work as when I use "QuickDrag" extension to open them in a new tab they work fine.
Example: raptr.com - no links work there but form elements still respond to clicks.

Are that normal links (i.e. no JavaScript or onclick type of links)?
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

  • Mouse problem with FCP: drops clips or do not respond to clicks.

    hi to all.
since i bought my macpro i've been noticing a very annoying problem when using FCP. there's a moment when the mouse stops to work properly and begins to drop clips when i try to move it or do not respond to clicks. two examples: 1- i want to move a clip from the end of the timeline to its beggining. in the middle of the way, it just drops the clip, as if i stoped pressing the mouse button. 2- i choose the pen tool so i can play with opacity and create fades. in the middle of the process of adjusting, it stops to work. i have to keep pressing several times to complete the action.
the problem is basically with the CLICK function. the cursor responds to the mouse properly, but when you click something to move it, it doesn't recognizes when you stop it and drops things. it happens only with fcp.
i'm using fcp 6.0.1, though the problem happened when i was using fcp 5.

I have a similar problem with my mouse in FCP. Perhaps not the same thing, but I think I figured out it's due to the design of the mouse. It's an Apple A1152, a white one-button mouse with a little scroll wheel. The thing is the whole top presses down for the click, and if I don't grab the two little tabs on the side that give you the leverage to keep on pressing the top, across larger distances I lose the pressure necessary and I drop whatever it is I was dragging. It's a pain because my hand is not the right size or shape to naturally get a hole of those little tabs. I don't know if your problem is related in any way but I thought I'd mention it just in case...,

  • Programs don't respond with ipod plugged in

This is really a pain. Whenever I plug my 30gb 5G ipod into my computer my programs don't respond. This makes it impossible to put songs onto my ipod. I have tried reinstalling itunes and the ipod updater and restoring my ipod, but it only makes it so that itunes doesn't read my ipod. please help.
    30 gb. 5th G   Windows XP

I don't know if this will fix the problem, but here it is:
    1. start the macbook up normally w/o the iPod plugged in.
    2. right after u hit the power button hold down the button combination "s" and "command"
    3. do not let go until the screen goes black and white text is on it. when the text stops moving there will be a prompt.
    4. type the following text WITHOUT QUOTES "fsck -f"
    5. then when it is done do that same thing again.
    6. then try to exit type the following text WITHOUT QUOTES "reboot"
    7. then try to reboot with the iPod connected
if that does not work take it into a apple store.

  • Why does my iPad mini stop responding to wifi after a period of time?

Why does my iPad mini stop responding to wifi after a period of time?
For example, I can connect to wifi and use Safari and my iPad's interet capabilities with no problem. But if I then leave my iPad alone for an hour - when I go back to using it, it still shows as being connected to the wifi, but is unresponsive - i.e. web pages will not load etc. - I have to disconnect and reconnect to the wifi to make it responsive.
    In advance, thanks

    Try #5
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Mouse no longer responds to clicks

    Hi
Has anybody ever seen their mouse not respond to clicking?
Sometimes when my application does something unexpected (I haven't been able to isolate exactly what), my mouse pointer turns from the arrow into the )( shape (straight line with the little curls on top and bottom) I normally see when the mouse pointer is over a text input field. When this happens, the mouse stops responding to clicks, specifically:
    - I can't click on the menu bar
    - I can't drag a region on my desktop to select a group of icons
    - I can't click on any button in the app I think caused the problem, or any other app
    - I can't click on the buttons in the "your computer is locked, please enter password" screen (I got to that page using Hot Corners)
    - the mouse responds to me moving it around but I cannot click
I've tried closing all the apps by tabbing through them and using command-Q, I've also tried sleeping the computer and waking it back up. The only thing which has worked for me has been power-cycling the computer.
Is there any way to just restart the mouse subsystem?
I've seen this happen with the Eclipse IDE version 3.4 (not 3.3), when the IDE goes into debug mode. I've also just seen this happen with Google Chrome, and I think it happens with Google Chrome when some JavaScript error is generated and I have the JavaScript console open

Ive had a similar problem and havent been able to figure it out, frustrating to say the least. With mine, my keyboard wasnt working, my mac couldnt find it via blue tooth, then my mouse stopped working, grrrrrr battery life is still up to 68%, after coming on here and reading, i thought i would try updating, after a restart my trackpad was longer going.
So ive jumped on my husbands lap top in hope that someone on here might be able to help me? I couldnt post my own question, as I couldnt find the post a new question tab, either that or im dumber than what I first thought!!!

  • Volume controls don't respond

I have the Imac OS X 10.5.8 core 2 duo.
Just bought a new Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad,
because my previous one was broken.
But the volumekeys, the keys to switch songs and the '@' key don't respond/work.
Is there a way to costumize them?
    Thanks a lot!

I had the same problem as well for nearly 3 months.
I had tried bring the Iphone into my phone carrier and they sent me to the AppleStore. When I brought it to them they hooked it up to the diagnostic machine and they told me just to restart the Iphone from the factory settings.
This didn't work either. To complicate things more, other "solutions" seem to only yield temporary success. These temporary solutions included: blowing compressed air into every port, various restart combinations, various factory restore methods.
I had nearly given up until I stumbled upon a support post on Apple's website that finally yielded success.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1630
The solution for me is listed as line 7, which reads:
"Check the receiver mesh (which is on the top front of the device, above the display). If it appears blocked, use a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush to carefully and gently brush away any debris."
Apparently, this cylinder shaped, mesh area is in some way tied to what triggers the headphones/speaker selection. I am not sure how, but I can say that after gently brushing it out my sounds are working again; specifically my music is now able to play directly off the speakers and my Iphone apps all play their sounds agian.
Hope this helps you as well!

  • Apple applications don't respond

    Hi,
    I have an iBook G4 running 10.3.9.
My main account, the admin account is corrupted. Apple apps don't respond. Mail, Addressbook won't start. Safari can't connect to the internet, endless rotating wheel. System preferences not responding. It happens only with my main admin account. I set up a new account to be able to access mail and the web and it works with that. I also set up a root password and i can log in as root admin and that works as well.
I tried to repair disk permissions. No luck. However i couldn't run it from the corrupted account since disk utility didn't respond there either.
Do i really need to wipe the disk and install everything from ground up? Or there are other ways to fix this?
Or can I delete my corrupted admin account and create a new admin account?
    Thanks,
    Luke

(Likely suspects are TimesRO & Helvetica Fractions, also if you do not use Classic you can trash the classic fonts.)
    2. Check Preferences Thoroughly:
        • Go to Users/Your_Name/Library/Preferences and trash the files:
        - com.apple.ATS.plist
        - com.apple.BezelServices.plist

        • Navigate to YourHome/Library/Preferences drag this folder to the desktop.
        • Restart and test your applications.
        • If this works, save the old preferences folder somewhere else or on disk, name it "old prefs."
** Note: A very important file is the "com.apple.Mail.plist" preference file located in the Preferences folder which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences (hold this one and replace if your problem is not with Mail).
You'll have to go through some of your System Preferences and apps to set the preferences back to how you like them. (Or if you have the time and inclination, "cherry pick" through until you find the problem one or two.)
    3. Check Permissions Inside Home Folder
        • Navigate to yourhome/library.
        • Get Info (Command + i) on the "Applications Support" folder.
        • Open the "Ownership & permissions" disclosure triangle.
        • Make sure you are the owner, with "read and write" access.
        • Click on "apply to all"
        • If this is correct, open the "Applications Support" folder and do the same procedure (Command+I) for the folder names of the applications with which you are having trouble.
    Note:
The reason to check this is because repairing permissions with Disk Utility doesn't touch permissions inside your home folder.

  • Function Keys and Power Commands Don't Respond

I've encountered an odd intermittent problem with my iBook G3 900. On certain boots the following issues crop up:
    - Function keys are non-responsive. Expose, Volume, Brightness, and Eject all stop working.
    - Power button doesn't respond. Also, software power commands don't respond. The only way to shut down the system is to do a force shutdown by holding down the power button for four seconds (or other unpleasant things like unplugging the power and the battery, which I refuse to do except under the most dire circumstances).
    - "About This Mac" refuses to load. Sometimes I see the window appear, but it parks itself at the top left of the screen where I can't get to the window bar, and Expose obviously doesn't help.
Now as I said, this problem is intermittent. It only seems to occur on certain boots, but it's incomprehensibly annoying when it does appear. The iBook is a secondary system, so I have barely anything on it and I don't do anything crazy with as far as software goes. All I know is that the problem appeared after I rebooted after installing SideTrack, but try as I can I can't seem to link my problem with aforementioned app. If the problem does assert itself, I force a shutdown, and it goes away on the next boot.
    Any thoughts?

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
One of the first troubleshooting procedures to try when you are seeing operational anomalies is to reset the PMU.
What is the hard drive capacity and how much space remains available on it? Sometimes strange things start to happen when you get down to less than 5 GB of free hard drive space.
