My Tecra 9100 doesn`t start properly

Hello everyone,
please give me some advise.
Last time i used my tecra 9100 it was working just fine. Then yesterday I turned it on, it seem to boot up properly for the first few seconds (light blinking showing Hard disk is doing something) and then i heard a beep and although power was on, hard disk light went off.
Also during all that time, my screen was completely black as when the laptop is off and didnt change at all.
What is going on? i cant figure out if there is a problem with my screen or the actual hard disk (??)
i of course rebooted and rebooted and no change.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi Hans,
Do you see the Toshiba 'splash' screen when you first power on your notebook ? If you do then the display is obviously not faulty and the problem will be with your hard drive. If your screen remains blank from the moment that you power on then it is more likely that you display is at fault.
There could, of course also be problems with other components which are causing the symptoms that you describe, such as a failed mainboard.

finally i got it! The problem was about the ID focus, where the application load.
I have two monitor, managed by nView desktop manager. So ID was loaded far from my desktop, i don't know why.
But most strange of all, ID was not showed in the application tab in the "active processes management" .
So i disabled nview manager and ID appear.
But this is a big bug of ID, which Adobe must manage.

Tecra S2 doesn't start in battery mode

Hi,
I purchased Tecra S2 last week. When starting up in battery mode a few hours after having worked with netpower , I only get an orange light for the battery LED but the notebook won't start up. I have to take the battery out, put it back in, connect to netpower and only then it starts up.
However the battery seems loading. When I work with netpower and I disconnect netpower, the notebook still functions on battery.
Any suggestions what could be the cause and what todo?

The unit is brand new and it should works properly. In my opinion you should contact your local seller and tell him that you want to have a new unit. As far as I know you have 14 days return quite.

Edge Animation doesn't start properly in Chrome/Safari

I developed an animated intro sequence at the following address quite some time ago with Edge when it was still in Adobe Labs: http://www.gdc-corp.com . It seemed to work fine when developed, but it was just pointed out to me that the animation sequence automatically starts as it should in Internet Explorer on the PC, but on Chrome and Safari, at least on the mac, when you first hit the page, the animation doesn't run. If you refresh the browser or back out to another page a revisit the page, the animation starts automatically as it should.
Anyone have a quick thought on why and how to fix?

I just did a simple test with an svg/ gradient, exported from Illustrator - defalt svg settings.
Imported (File > Import) into an Edge project file and it works, shows properly.
Is this the process you went through to add the svg file? When imported does the svg look as it should within the Edge Animate stage, at this point?
I then opened Dw, new html file; Insert > Media > Edge .oam. It imports properly.
Enable Live mode and I can see the edge file as well as the svg in all its gradient glory.
As for the Active X prompt, that is common IF you double click the .html to view or Preview in Browser from Dw because its not within a webserver space.

RTorrent+Screen doesn't start properly from systemd

I decided to finally upgrade my system from init.d to systemd.
Pretty much everything went smoothly except my rtorrent+screen startup.
I'm using mostly the ruTorrent webui for controlling rtorrent. I'm using a service that starts rTorrent in a detatched GNU screen.
This is my problem, when I start the service, rtorrent is just king of sleeping and not responding/doesn't create a SCGI socket I use to connect my webui to the rtorrent client.
If I attach the screen the problem goes away and rtorrent resumes normal operation. If I run the exact same commands through a shell, it also works perfectly.
I've also tried to run a basic screen as a service with rtorrent in my ~/.screenrc .
Can anyone help? I've got no idea how to do debug this more than checking so that rtorrent and the service are running.

Occaisionally at restart Windows 7 produces desktop but no icons and no start button
Also may not be able to shut it down

Can you also post some more details?
What notebook you have exactly?
Did you install Windows 7 yourself or was it preinstalled on your notebook?
Can you notice any problems in event viewer or yellow exclamation marks in device manager?
Sorry but its really hard to say what the reason is. In worst case you have to reinstall Windows 7 using Toshiba recovery disk.

Macbook Pro Shuts Down / MacBook Pro Doesn't Start Properly

I just had this problem today. When I tried to wake the macbook pro back from sleep, it didn't wake up, after closing and reopening the screen several times. Thus, I forced quit it by holding the switch button. Now, when I tried to start the macbook pro, the computer automatically shuts down in less than 3 seconds. I have tried resetting the PRAM and all that stuff but they don't seem to work. Has anyone had this issue before?

I am having this exact problem. In my case, I shut down my MBP before going to work. Once I reached work, I tried restarting and it shuts down almost immediately. I've already tried most solutions, but as I am at work, I have not been able to try the cd solution. Any help would be welcome as I do not want to have to reinstall the OS.

[SOLVED] samba does not start properly again -this time with systemd

Definitely no luck with this one...
So, today I've switched to a pure systemd init system, and noticed that I have this old issue again.

Samba doesn't start properly again, more precisely smbd is launched but not nmbd, so samba is not working as it should (for example smbtreee lists nothing).
Last time I've solved it by putting samba long before networkmanager in the daemons array, but with systemd I'm a bit confused...
Anyone has this issue?

Oh, this started happening after putting a MUCH faster cpu and motherboard in the system, so maybe there's a race-condition there?

Safari won't start properly - update related??

Suddenly , when I open Safari, it doesn't start properly - I just get the spinning wheel icon and I cannot browse websites. ( Luckily, I have Chrome which is working.
I don't know if it was related the recent Delta os update so I downloaded the 'Combo' update and applied it but still Safari won't work.
I don't fancy the re-installation of Lion just to get Safari working but if there's something less drastic, perhaps someone can suggest something.

That's not good news. Creating a new user account should be a trivial exercise, unless there is something wrong with your system. The fact that Chrome is working doesn't reassure me... it could be a system problem that doesn't affect Chrome because it isn't deeply embedded into the system.
I suggest two steps:
1) Boot into your recovery partion by holding COMMAND-R when you reboot your computer. Then open disk utility and do a verify disk on your main partition.
If that is ok:
2) If you have a good quality internet connection, it could be worth downloading the 10.7.3 Install Mac OS X app from the Mac App Store and reinstalling (after making an appropriate backup of course). If all goes well, your data and user accounts will be preserved, but it will work better.

Sometimes Xorg doesn't start

I sometimes have a problem when i turn on my computer and Xorg doesn't start properly and all i see is a dark screen. Before starting Xorg everything works fine, but when i do startx there is only blackness and i have to reboot. When i was going through the logs i found errors like

As you can see i use nouveau driver. The problem seems to be that display does not give a correct EDID to the nouveau and Xorg doesn't start. I have a hp laptop and i have had problems with its display for some time now (it sometimes blinks uncontrollably in various geometrical patterns, but when i move the angle for a bit it stops - this is a known issue with hp laptops and i don't have the money for a new display). Is my hunch about the reason of this issue correct or are these errors unrelated and how would i resolve this? Would it be possible to tell the system what is the correct EDID - i only use one display.

There used to be an Option in the Device section of xorg.conf that you could set,
Option "IgnoreEDID" "TRUE". You could try creating a file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
with that option. The downside to that is that you might have to provide all the correct
EDID info yourself.
The nvidia proprietary driver's configuration allows you to ignore all or part of the EDID:
if you wish to disable the driver's use of the EDID, you can set this option to False:
Option "UseEDID" "FALSE"
Note that, rather than globally disable all uses of the EDID, you can
individually disable each particular use of the EDID; e.g.,
Option "UseEDIDFreqs" "FALSE"
Option "UseEDIDDpi" "FALSE"
Option "ModeValidation" "NoEdidModes"

N8 doesn't start after updates

I downloaded 4 updates and my phone rebooted itself. Now it doesn't start properly. It turns on, but stays in this bright white screen with Nokia-text on it. I've tried the 8 second restart, but i doesn't help.
When the N8 is switched off and I put the charger in, it goes on and freezes again in the white screen.
Is the three finger hard reset my last option? It kills me to lose all the data...

I say you should try a three finger reset again
But since your device starts up it seems, I suggest you first connect it to a computer and atempt to do a backup of the device
Then...
Turn off the phone by holding the powerbutton down for about 8 -10 seconds, until device vibrates 3 times. (so the device is power reset first)
Remove the SIM card and eventual SD card
Then hold Menu button + Camera Button + Volume Down pressed at the same time
Press the power button to start the device, then release it
Keep the 3 buttons previously mentioned pressed , but only these three
When the Nokia Logo shows up , then release the three buttons
(Menu button + Camera Button + Volume Down)
(this three finger reset is not a recommeneded procedure on a device that does not have Symbian Anna installed ... Nokia E7-00 seems to still have issues with this reset method even with Anna)

Lightroom 5: start button in the presentation module doesn't work properly

Hi. I purchased LR 5 last week but the start button in the presentation mudule doesn't work properly. I get a black screen and nothing happens. I have to press the esc button several times to return to LR.Can you help me please

I m using apple mac pc, when we start windows 7 , apple mouse doesn't work properly it take to much time to gain signals from the pc and many times it not work but when we use mac it moves fastly and works properly. please suggest me. thanks ravi

All computers are personal computers, a PC though is also "non-Apple" in common usage.
Mac also is platform and OS.

Tecra 9100: Headphones out doesn't work

at my Tecra 9100, the Headphones connector doesn't work. The internal speaker do well. If i plug in headphones or external speakers, the internals are being switched off, but at the external devices i can't hear anything.
My soundcard generally works, i thought there could be a chance to fix this just by dis- and reconnection the wire/board from the front connectors to the sound board ... but i've never done any technichal stuff at a Tecra, so it would be nice if someone could give me some input how and where i would have to open it, and if this is even a chance to fix my problem.

According to your problem description I presume that Audio headphone port is defective. There is small switch that switch between internal and external speakers.
I have the same unit and it works well on my unit. I am afraid that you must contact service partner and check this mechanical connector.

My palm m105's touch screen doesn't work properly after a sync.

I dug out my old m105, put new batteries in and start it. On first launch it auto runs the alignment tool, and after touching all the points it goes to the main screen and works fine. No problem till here.
Now, I plug it into my old computer which still has the palm software with my apps, and I run the sync operation (from the palm device sync manager, cause I lost my cradle and I'm connected via the serial cable), and it syncs fine BUT, here comes the problem, when it finishes the sync (successfully) the touch screen is all misaligned. I can't go back to the home screen or do anything useful.
