My text isn't smoothing correctly

Hi,
I'm having a very odd problem. I'm building textbox
dynamically as i normally do, i'm importing a font to the library
and embedding the font to the textfield. However for some reason
when the text is White it doesn't antialias correctly. I'm using
white, pink and bronze text, when it's bronze or pink it is fine
but when it is white or even a colour close to white then it blurs
and looks messy.
Has anyone encountered this before?
here are my text box and format settings are attached.
Any ideas would be grealy appreciated. I'm using the font
called Sabon incase you're interested.

Text isn't displayed correctly in IE6

Just creating a site for someone and am having a few issues with the text displaying correctly in Internet Explorer 6. I tend to create the index page and test it on most browsers out of habit to see if there are any errors. I've noticed since using iWeb '09 I've experienced a lot of text errors. All text in this site is live and Verdana. It is the same if you change it to Arial.

As you will see, it displays fine in Safari and FF etc, but on IE6 it looks like this:

I decided to link to a grab so you can see it to scale - notice how some of the text (what will be live text menus) is either cut off or lines are too close in some paragraphs and line breaks?
Has anyone else experienced this or know of a solution? Is it a case of simply saying to viewers; Please update your browser to IE7?!

I thought I should share my experience. I have just built a website using entirely blank templates. No blogs or photo albums. I found iweb to be an amazing design tool and a fantastic web site builder. I published my site to my own url www.geraldhenry.com with no issues. The site was perfect in Safari, Firefox and Camino on my Mac Pro. I then checked it in Internet Explorer 6 and 8. It was acceptable in 8 but looked terrible in 6. In Explorer 6, all my lists and text formatting had come apart, creating huge gaps between list items and was pushing text off the page. Yet some lists looked perfect. So I used the iweb text inspector to see what was different between the formatting I had used in the lists that displayed perfectly in Explorer 6 and those that had come apart. Here is the information I wanted to share. When using the text inspector, there is a "list" option. It gives you the opportunity to indent text as well as bullets and numbers. If I used the bullet or number indent, there was no problem. But, if I used the text indent, Explorer did not like it and the formatting blew apart as described earlier. So, the key is not to use the text indent. To indent, use the tab key or space bar. You cannot create the amazing text layouts you can using text indenting, but your work will look good in all browsers. In my case, I went through my site and removed all text indenting and replaced it with spaces using the space bar and all of the issues with the lists blowing apart were resolved. Some final notes, I built my own navigation completely and so had no navigation issues. I used Verdana type which displays perfectly in Safari, Firefox and Camino but looks weak in Explorer. Why this is, I don't know. Also, as suggested on www.allaboutiweb.com, I added a landing page that says my site looks best in Safari and Firefox and I offer download links. Non-english text cannot be displayed correctly

I'm trying to create a report file in pdf format, but display of non-English text isn't correct, (utf-8 encoding)

Thanks for the reply, I created the pdf file by my own library, it works for english, french and other iso-8859-1 languages, but not for others like russian (iso-8859-5) and must the fonts be embedded?

How can I correct it?

In case you have not fixed this, take a look at your Image Size (Ctrl Alt i). The default when you make a new document window is 72ppi which can result in smaller text than you sometimes expect. If you open Image size, turn off resample, and change the resolution to something like 300, you'll get much larger type for the same settings.
For this reason one of the first things I do after installing Photoshop, or resetting Preferences, is to open Preferences > Units & rulers, and set Type to mm. This way I know that if the document is set to A4, and orientated in landscape (297mm x 210mm) setting text to 21mm is going to result in type exactly one tenth the height of the document.
I believe people in America still use inches, but unfortunately inches are not an option for Type units in Preferences. It is easy enough to work it out in your head though. A 10x8 document with type set to 25mm will give you text one eighth the height of the document.
The bottom line is you can at least predict what is going to happen when setting text size.

Motion isn't smooth

i've a problem with the graphics on my macbook. the movement isn't smooth anymore when I scroll up and down. also the movement isn't move like usual. I've reset the PRAM and did repair disk permission but it doesn't work. do you know how to fix it? thx:)

I have a dual 1.8 G5 with 3 GB RAM. A Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card with 256mb of RAM. (bought to try to reslove this problem but to no avail) Running version 2.0.1 of Motion. I also have a decklink pro for an external CRT video monitor.
The particular project (although it happens on most but they are all the same resolution & codec). I generally work using the DV PAL Codec, 720*576 anamorphic. This project was 10" long. I had composited 6 video clips into a third band running horizontally accorss the centre of the screen with reversed, flipped images below as reflections. It is to be the video content of a chapter heading. Each of the 6 clips is moving (tilting or panning). I tried exporting the sequence to Motion but the pans and tilts within the video clips become unuseably jerky.
In the end, I exported the video as a GT movie and used that as a guide only and switch off that layer on export leaving the video all within FCP which limits my flexibility on layers.
Thankfully, text movement in this project is smooth but that isn't always the case. It does seem to be a rythmic jerkiness. If something is moving accross the screen, it pause ever so slightly every few frames then continues.
I'm rambling now but I hope that may be enough?

Wallaby animation isn't working correctly after app update

Hi DPS fellows,
This afternoon I've updated my Adobe Content Viewer and all my wallaby animations began to work in a different way.
It's just fades in instead of doing the animation.
Most of them are just animated letters for a headline. The animations consist in each letter appear at different time, sometimes coming form right, some form left or from the top of the page, but after the updated, they just appear in a fade in. Before tha worked pretty fine.
Does anybody here knows how to solve that?

Text layers not saved correctly as PDF from PS?

I frequently save layouts I do in Photoshop as PDF's. Lately I very often will discover the text does not display correctly in the PDF. One or two lines of text will display as white with a thin black outline, rather than as the basic solid black I'd specified.
I work on a Windows 7 machine with the current version of PS. The text is on layers when I save the file to PDF (from PS), but I do not include the layers in the PDF, so they should be flattening down.
Any ideas why this happens? I noticed a few weeks ago when it was also doing this that I updated the program a day later and the PDF's were not exhibiting this issue. But, now it's starting again. A big timewaster for me.

Text doesn't flatten until you tell it to. In fact that may be the problem here - you are telling the PDF maker to not retain vector text and when it tries to flatten, some layer style or something else gets in the way. Try to play with the PDF options. also manaulyl flatten the document in PS before saving to PDF...

iPad used to open iBooks purchased off iTunes no problems but since I took my iPad overseas on holiday it no longer opens iBooks - they appear to download ok but when I tap to open the book I get an error message saying the book isn't formatted correctly or is in a format that iBooks doesn't recognise. I have tried
- deleting and reloading iBooks
- making all updates have been done
- turning on and off airplane mode
And still have the problems
Did ask iTunes help but so far no joy - appreciate help please

Ok, I got the 1.3/1.4 thing straight now. There was a java.exe in System32 that I now see the PATH was calling first.
And in the TextPad version of the problem, I was curious -- I don't remember setting the specification of the executable called by the Run Tool button, but I must have at some point. I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it and it created a default button that apparently points to what it's supposed to point to, since it now works and runs my program OK.
Still, I wonder how it can be that explicitly directing the button to C:\j2sdk1.4.0\bin\java.exe makes TextPad's Command Results Window say "NoClassDefFoundError"
I'm up and working now, but if anyone has a clue I can learn from on the TextPad issue, thanks

If not successful. let the battery fully drain and then charfe for an hour and try again.
Frequently a white scree nis due to a hardware problem.

I understand your frustration but please do not use all caps when posting--it "sounds" as if you're yelling to the eye. In any case, are you sure you're using the select tool and not the hand tool?

The Dimensions and size of the problem movie are 1920X1080 and 584 MB respectively, while the movies that play better have Dimensions of 853X480 and are about 1.3 GB in size. Is this the source of my problem and how do I change things for the better.

Are you exporting to QuickTime Movie, or to QuickTime Conversion? For iDVD, you need to export to QuickTime Movie. Exporting to QT Conversion will kill the quality if you are moving the video from FCE to iDVD.
The file size per se makes no difference.
What size (pixel dimensions) are the photos that you put into your 1920x1080 sequence? Also, exactly what are the sequence properties ... is it 1920x1080i60 ... or i50? In North America it should be i60.
853X480 is an odd frame size. Where are you seeing this number? It would appear to be DV-NTSC, which has a frame size of 720x480. Your 1920x1080 frame size would not be DV-NTSC, it would be Apple Intermediate Codec. DV and AIC will look different, for sure.
Also, your quality setting in iDVD can affect the final video. You may want to check that also (in iDVD Preferences > Projects). Set it to Professional Quality if at all possible.

Text Surface Not Smooth after Exported

Hi,
I have a Trailer that i've done by FCP.at the top layer,i put on some Outline Text (from Viewer->"A" at the right bottom->Text).Everything Looks good in FCP preview.But when after exported and i open it by QT the Text are not smooth the surface...i got small text and large text (25pt to 75pt).
Any problem and anything wrong on my setting according to the issue above?
Or, LiveType is the good idea to edit some text on top?

Well, you don't want to ignore it, but you do want to delinterlace any video destined for the web.. if it's to be a DVD or tape on a TV set though, don't deinterlace. Computer displays are progressive devices and they don't do well then with interlaced video.... You can do this in compressor BTW... or in FCP.

My App Store isn't working correctly, as the title states, and it continues to give me blank pages. For example, I go to the search bar, simply search up an app I'd like to use, and nothing happens. I'm not given suggestions or a single app when I press "search". It works fine for a brief moment when I open it, but it's as if it freezes but continues to let me press the tabs on the bottom.
