My thumbnails aren't showing up on iphoto 9.1.5.

My thumbnails aren't showing up on iphoto 9.1.5, I have only uploaded photos from cameras. I have never used any external harddrive to store photos or upload from. How do i get my thumbnails back. Its very hard to find what I need with no thumbnails.

What do you see?
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbs. This can take 3 or 4 goes.

Thanks for the reply with the very helpful details.

I suspect that we are in a no win situation here - an Elements Organizer 12 issue.
With Elements Organizer 11, 10, and 9, I can bring your MPEG2.mpg into the Elements Organizer with thumbnail with
image. I cannot for Elements 12. And, I am working with the same MPEG2.mpg in Elements Organizer 9.0/9.0.1, 10, 11,
and 12 on the same computer. In the morning, I will look Elements Organizer 13 as well.
In my work with 12, this MPEG2.mpg consistently crashed the Elements Organizer 12.
It is difficult to explain these results by invoking a missing codec theory since all was done with the same sample on the
    same computer.
    More later.

  • Thumbnails don't show up in iPhoto

Weirdly, the vast majority of my pictures in iPhoto (the ones older than a few weeks) now no longer show up in the library, either as thumbnails or when I try to edit them. They are only a grey square with a dotted frame and an exclamation point.
The pictures are still there (if I go to Finder and navigate through the folder structure, I can see them in the preview window), but apparently, iPhoto can't see them to display them. I have not made any changes to the folder structure or modified anything in Finder, so I'm having trouble understanding what the cause of this is.
Based on previous discussions here, I have tried the following:
    1. Rebuilding the library and thumbnails (option + command, then selecting the top three options) - took about a minute (I have over 7000 pictures in the library) and yielded no results.
    2. Tried moving the data folder according to Lori's tip here http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2070087&#2070087 and then rebuilding, still no luck.
    3. Downloaded iPhoto Library Manager as suggested here http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7280470&#7280470 and used that to rebuild my library. It could only find the pictures from the last few weeks (the same ones that iPhoto will display) and not the other ones.
Any help or tips would be much appreciated! It's reassuring to know my pictures are still there, but I'm not really sure why iPhoto all of a sudden can't find them...

You’re database is damaged (by a crash, perhaps?) and the damage is such that it cannot be recovered with Library Manager.
Your only option now is to create and populate a new Library:
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Thumbnails aren't showing in Bridge

About a week ago, my Bridge changed and now doesn't show thumbnails and the file icons are all spread out and are taking up a lot of space.  Did I perhaps accidently hit a hot button that changed the view?  I have searched for a way to get it back, but don't see anything.  Now I'm wondering if the installation might be corrupted.
Does anybody know if this senario resembles a window or view setup that might have gotten activated?  Or, if it is likely that something has become corrupted, can I reinstall Bridge without reinstalling my entire CS3 suite?
I've attached a screen shot of what it looks like now.  This view used to show about 8 folders toward the top of the area, with superimposed images of what was in them, and then thumbnails of a ton of image files below them in the same folder.

Well, I tried that earlier to no avail.  However, twenty minutes after I posted my question I found another discussion that suggested something to try and just now got a chance to try it.  I held down "control" as I booted Bridge and selected all the options presented for clearing preferences and returning to default settings.  It now works again just fine.  Some kind of preference corruption, I guess.

  • Iphone 6 videos aren't showing up in iPhoto after import

After importing tons of photos from my new phone to iphoto, I noticed that none of the videos are showing up. I deleted after importing, so they're no longer on my phone either. All my old videos from my iPhone 5 are showing up, just not the videos from my 6+. In Spotlight, I typed in h.264 and the videos are showing up and directing me to iPhoto, they're just not showing up there at all. What's going on? Thank you!

Disconnect the external drive, choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, enter /Volumes/ as the folder's path, move all aliases out of this folder, and then reconnect the drive.

  • IPhoto Thumbnail do not show

I recently got this MacBook Pro and the thumbnails have not shown up in iPhoto since Day 1. I tried rebuilding them and rebuilding the entire library to no avail.
    Help

Hello TD, .. I desperately need your help, and I greatly appreciate it.
I see you have answered this question over the past 2 years. I have the same problem. I went to Genius Bar and few people looked at it and they say nothing can be done. I hope you can help.
Here is my situation. My drive went bad, I replaced the drive. I had Time Machine backup on an external drive. I transferred and most seemed fine, until I saw that there are thumbnails but no pictures in iPhoto, and also couldn't open the movies. The thumbnails show the size, time, date, and even location on the map, but can't open'em, and can't eMail'em.
Genius Bar says that 19,000 pictures only show less than 1GB on Time Machine, and for some reason Time Machine didn't back up my iPhoto Library 2. They says it just copied the index. I don't know why I have an original library which has pictures upto Nov., 15 2008 which is all fine, and another Library 2, that has all from beginning up until when internal hard-drive crashed. In other words, I need that Library 2, but it is showing thumbnails. Genius Bar did tried things but nothing. However, (although it is hard for me to understand the technical details you have explained,) but, I know they didn't do this much of what you have suggested.
Please let me know every possible solution so I can go there with their help try to read your instructions and maybe they learn for future customers that this happens to them. Thank you so much. Babak

  • IPhone pix thumbnails don't show in iPhoto

Just upgraded to Snow Leopard yesterday. Took some photos with my iPhone 3G. When I sync the phone with my iMac, it launches iPhoto but the thumbnails don't show in iPhoto, only the yellow dashed line indicating they are there.
The photos download fine so this isn't a huge issue, just odd. Anyone else run into this and have a fix?
    Thanks!

I think what I have noticed is that the thumbnails for screenshots (which are .png format) don't show up before importing. The thumbnails for regular pix should.
    I didn't worry about a fix.

Why aren't my scanned photos showing up in iphoto? I have an HP scanner with the option to import directly to iphoto. It says "sending to destination" but it never gets to iphoto. I scanned hundreds of photos several months and it worked fine with the photos going directly into iphoto - now it won't work. Any suggestions?

As the feature is part of your scanner set up nd not iPhoto, you'd need to ask the makers of that for help.

  • I'm using iphoto version 8.1.2., when I try to upload pics to another web site my pics aren't showing up.  What could be the problem?

I'm using iphoto 8.1.2..  When I try to upload pics to another web site the pics aren't showing up.  There is nothing there to choose from.  What could be the problem?

We'll need as full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on. So, step-by-step how do you go about this uploading?

  • IPhoto movies not showing up in "iPhoto Movies" tab of iMovie

Some of my iPhoto movies aren't showing up in the "iPhoto Movies" tab under the events browser. Does anyone know of a way to ensure that all of them show up? They are all of the same video format, so I don't know why some are appearing and others are not.

But in iMovie, only two of these movies show up in the iPhoto videos events. How do I get the third one to show up in iMovie?
Not sure, but try this: Close iMovie. From iPhoto, drag the AVI movie to the Desktop. This will create a copy on the Desktop. Now drag this file back into iPhoto. You will be asked if you wish to import a duplicate - click on Import. Now open iMovie - hopefully the newly imported AVI movie in iPhoto will now be recognised by iMovie, which will commence creating thumbnails. If desired, you can delete the original movie from iPhoto.
If this doesn't work, try converting the AVI file to another format. This can be done in either QuickTime 7 or QuickTime X, depending on the conversion required. Open the AVI file on your Desktop (the one dragged from iPhoto earlier) in QuickTime X. If the movie is 640 x 480 go to File>Save As and choose the format HD 480p. That will save the movie in H.264 format using 2 Mbits/s at up to 640 x 480 resolution. If your original movie is in some other resolution, you will probably be given other Save As options, so choose the most appropriate. If you have QuickTime 7, you can export using a much wider range of formats. However, the best to use are AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) or the H.264 format - both work perfectly with iMovie '09.
Once you have the exported file (whether from QuickTime 7 or X), import it to iMovie. In iMovie's menu choose File>Import Movies. You should now be in business!

  • I'm adding photos to photo stream and they aren't showing up

I'm adding photos to photo stream and they aren't showing up - help!

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Some photos in directory aren't showing in library anymore

i recently upgraded to iphoto6 and everything was fine, until i noticed that not all of my film rolls were there....(they were there to begin with in iphoto6) there are now about a month of photos that i can see in the directory and aren't showing in the library. i have started iphoto holding down apple and option and checked all 4 boxes. it didn't help. i'm not sure how to get it to recognize those pictures and exhibit them in the library again. does anyone have any ideas?

    Hello Tommy!
Using iMovie HD (5) or iMovie 6 is one way of doing it. Another, to circumvent the reasons explained previously, is to use an application like Photo to Movie, with which I am currently experimenting. Many will tell you that this, and/or its competitor PhotoMagico, does a better job.
But you are actually asking the wrong person (and with a bit of luck one of the resident experts in slide shows will chip in, although it would have been better if you has started your own thread) as I have yet to make one!
I have used photos in movie projects as an 'epilogue' to the movie and that has worked fine, but I am still at the stage of scanning in some 6,000 old negatives and slides view a view to making slide shows, as well as digital data DVDs, for posterity!
So for the time being I shall simply share your learning curve!
