My time Capsule has started flashing orange

My time capsule   HD is flossing orate and so the backups are not working.
It was ok yesterday and nothing has changed in the setup.
I have pulled out the power held down the reset put the power back in so it flashed quickly, but still no change as it went back to flashing normally.

You did a full reset.. after that you must do a new setup.. you give no indication that you opened airport utility and ran the setup wizard.. did you??
Did you find out the original reason for the flashing LED.. only opening the airport utility can give you that info??
SN does not help us much.. I need the model number.. A1xxx on the base.. or simply give me a screenshot.. open the airport utility.
hold down the option key and double click on the icon of the TC.. you will then get this page.
The info I need is there..

    I have a previous generation Time Capsule (the one before the current tall version), and the last two days I have noticed it spontaneously rebooting several times. Doesn't seem to be a pattern that I've been able to tell of when it happens, I'll just be humming along working from home on the VPN and i'll see the VPN drop connection. Looking at the airport, the light goes yellow, and using the Airport utility on my iMac I can no longer see the Time Capsule. After about 30-45 seconds, it comes back and reconnects to the cable modem, and all my connections restore.
    Just not sure if there's something that I can do from a troubleshooting perspective to figure out what the issue is, or if it's time for a new device before this one fails altogether.

    If you don't have the old version utility loaded in your computer.. I recommend you install it.. because then you can see the log.
    New utility they cut out the log access for reasons only Apple can know!!
    How to load 5.6 into later Lion & ML
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.

    Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    Leave the package open on the desktop so you can see the file. AirportUtility56.pkg
    2. Download and install unpkg.

    Run unpkg on the desktop.. If your Mac refuses to run the software, because it wasn’t downloaded from the Apple store, go to security in preferences and allow other software to work.. this is limitation of trade methinks. You can set back later if you like.
    Now drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. in finder, open the new directory, drill down.. applications, utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
    You cannot uninstall version 6 (now 6.3 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. although I have had no problems when doing so.
    I would also downgrade firmware to 7.6.1 or even 7.5.2 if the TC is older than 2years.. the first Gen4 can go back that far!!
    This is easier to do in v6 utility. Simply hold the option key whilst you click the version number.. and all the older versions will show up.
    Select one and it will fix itself up.
    Then factory reset.
    The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
    Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
    Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
    TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
    No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
    Redo the setup and use all SMB compatible names.. that simply means names that are short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
    If you continue having issues.. set a different name for 5ghz wireless and fix the wireless channels.
    Use only WPA2 Personal security with a 10-20 character fully alphanumeric password.

  • Airport Time Capsule has no IP address

    I just moved to Massachusetts and the Comcast technician who installed my tv/phone/internet package did not install my time capsule properly, or so it seems. He said he would use a standard protocol for installing it but was not sure it would work. It didn't, and the orange light on the front of the time capsule has been flashing now for 48 hours. Also, through Airport Utility I learn it "has no IP address".  I might mention the Bright House technician in Palm Coast (FL) and in the AT&T technician in Jacksonville had no trouble getting it to work
    I hasten to add this may not be Comcast's fault. I dropped the time capsule from 3 feet onto the floor as I was taking it out of its box. I would be most grateful, assuming it survived the fall, if anyone could suggest how I might get it to work.

    Reset it to factory and start again.
    Make sure it is plugged into the main ATT router by ethernet to its WAN port.. ie the one with the circle symbol. (always nearest the power socket).
    Now use airport utility and try again.. the airport utility on iOS device is more reliable than Yosemite.
    Factory reset universal
    Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
    N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.

    Just do a reboot of the TC to start with.. followed by a full network restart.. ie with everything off.. power on in order.. modem.. TC.. clients with 2min gap.
    If that doesn't fix it.. you should do a reset of the TC and set it up again.
    Tell us more if you still have issues.
    Full network layout.
    OS you are running.
    Firmware on the TC.

    Thanks for your message, I have attempted to repait the permissions as tou suggested.  The first time this produced a long list of exceptions and took quite a while, however although it said "Permissions repair Complete" when I ran it again there were still about 20 exceptions, I have repeated the procedure and this is unchanged.  The Time Capsule now does not spend hours "Preparing", but the backup attempt fails after a few minutes with the error message "The backup volume could not be mounted."  Any further ideas would be appreciated.   When I use Disk Utility I can't see the Time Capsule volume, if I could I'd be tempted to re-format it and start from scratch.

    When you plug the power in, look closely at the front and ethernet leds.. do any flash.. or all dead?
    Apple will not repair them. If you have applecare on a computer it will be replaced.
    Files can be recovered by voiding the warranty and removing the hard disk.. place in usb holder and plug into the computer.

    Gen3 if yours is A1355 is probably shorted board .. not a power supply gone bad.. although a repairer would need to look at it.

    AFAIK at this point Chris in the UK, and myself in Australia are the only people crazy enough to do it.
    If you have an electronics repair type he might help you. It is easy to do.. and so far very successful.. and once fixed have remained good. Happy to give more info if you contact me direct.
    If you check the rubber foot and it is earlier model then it is just a dead power supply.
    Apple and the apple repair network will throw it away if not under warranty.. if it is under warranty they will still throw it away just they will give you a replacement.

    My time capsule has stopped working. I get following error message The backup disk image “/Volumes/Michael Campbell's Time Cap/iMac.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error -1). I tried everything including deleting all the data and starting again. It then works for a few back ups and then gives the error message. I have tried to repair the disk but that is grayed out.

    Go to App folder
    Open Utilities
    Click on AirPort Utility
    Highlight your Time Capsule
    Go to Manual Setup
    Click on Disks
    Highlight your Time Capsule
    Click on Disconnect All Users
    Close AirPort Utility
    Go to Systems Preferences
    Click on Time Machine
    Click on Select Disk
    Find your Time Capsule and highlight it
    Then click on USE BACKUP DISK.
    Go to the Menu Bar and click on the Time Machine Icon
    Click on Backup Now
    It should work

  • After a time my computer starts flashing it is resolved by turning off Thunderbird. There is no link to how long before the flashing starts.

    After an unspecified time my computer starts flashing. I assumed it was a hardware problem but found that every time I switch off Thunderbird the flashing stops. If i turn it back on the flashing has stopped but eventually returns. There is no time link, it might be hours before the flashing starts. It is always resolved if I turn off Thunderbird. I have compacted folders, altered check for new email times. I cannot force the flashing to start.

    In System Preferences > Startup Disk, select your internal hard drive by clicking on it. The trouble you are seeing is because the Mac is looking for a network to start from and can't find one. Point it to your hard drive instead.

  • Time Capsule has green light, but unable to access the internet

    My Time Capsule has a green light, but all devices (wired and wireless) are not allowed out to the internet.
    When I connect my iMac directly to my internet router, I am able to access the internet, so I have isolated the issue to the Time Capsule.
    The Time Capsule receives an IP address from my internet router via DHCP and I can see this address in the Time Capsule config, but for some reason the Time Capsule is not allowing internet access to both wired and wireless clients.

    Verify that you have a working Ethernet cable.
    Then verify that the Ethernet cable is connected from one of the LAN <-> ports on your main router to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule.
    Check again to make sure that the Time Capsule is configured in Bridge Mode
    Power cycle the entire network as follows:
    Power off all devices in any order you want
    Wait a few minutes
    Start the modem or modem/router first and let it run a full minute by itself
    Start the main router next the same way
    Start the Time Capsule the same way
    Continue starting devices one at a time until everything is powered back up
    Check the network

    I have gone into Mac Help and followed this down to stage 4:
    under shared it lists my time capsule and my husband's iMac - both use the time machine but we have switched his off temporarily.  Clicking on my Time capsule I get "Connected" and "Sharepoint" - I didn't have to enter connect or password
    I don't understand stage 5: how and where do I select the disk or volume that contains Time Machine backups ?  How do I know which it is? My disk utility lists 160.04 TOSHIBA MK... with sub-heading Macintosh HD.  It also lists (with a "CD" icon) HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS22N
    Under stage 6, how and where do I Locate your backup ? I try dragging my Time capsule from Finder to the Disk Utility side panel but it won't go.  What is my computer's name?
    Please someone help!  I'm completely stumped.

    I have used Airport Express with my 2 Macs - Mac Pro (near the AE and modem, and MacBook Pro, normally used about 25 feet away, in another room. No problems. UNTIL I added Time Capsule. My access to the internet on the laptop is very, very slow. So bad, in fact, that I unplugged the TC, and am now using the AE once again. I really need to have everything backed up, which is why I bought the 2TB Time Capsule. Does anyone have solutions for this?

    I'm getting closer, but still have a problem.
    AE has only one channel to work with, and it's set on Channel 1.
    However, Time Capsule has two radio channel selections. The 2.4 GHz channel can be set on Channel 1, which I have done. But the 5 GHz channel 36, 40, 44, 48, 149, 153, 157, 161
    I'm going through trial and error with the higher number channels, but have had no success when I move the laptop away from the Time Capsule unit.

    Click Erase Disk.
    Choose quick erase.. it takes 2min to reformat the drive.
