My time capsule is no longer recognized. Help!

I was trying to extend my wireless connection with an airport extreme. In following the instructions, it indicated that by pressing 'continue' the device (the time capsule) would be disabled for a few minutes. It's been a couple of hours now. Any ideas what to do? TIA

Due to a recent move,  my Time Capsule doesn't seem to have the range & strength that it once did.
It must have the same strength it always had. .but the new environment blocks or absorbs wifi.. some houses are like a black hole.. nothing gets out.
- It seems to me, that in "Bridge Mode" my Time Capsule doesn't have the range & strength that it once did. For whatever the reason, I need to increase my Wireless range.
Being in bridge or being in router mode makes no difference whatsoever to wireless output.. however range is affected dramatically by environment and perhaps by operating next to a much higher wireless power device in the Mediacom router.
How do I extend my Wireless range?
If I give you useful sites.. apple mods will delete my posts.. so you should google yourself for "extend lan"
That is, unless I can use what is already wired into my home.  For example, I'm told there is a CAT 5 Access point (whatever that is) very near the vicinity of where I need wireless access.
This is the best method.. you do not need another TC.. plug the existing one into the Cat5 access point on the wall.. plug the other end into any LAN Port on the Mediacom router.. and as long as the cable is in good condition it will work great.
Make sure you are doing the setup correctly.
You bridge the TC.
You also create a wireless network.. it can be the same name as the mediacom router or different .. that is up to you. You do not attempt to extend the wireless.. this is most important.
Try it now.. all you need is a patch cord or two.

  • Time Capsule is no longer recognized by iMac

I have a Time Capsule (model# A1409) that is not recognized by my iMac.  I was using the time capsule with an older iMac which I gave to my son after purchasing a new iMac.  I also purchased a new router Airport Expreme Base Station (model# 1408)  and have two Airport Express Base Stations that serve as signal extenders (I had one Express Base Station but the signal was still weak where my son's computer is located, and so I purchased another one).  I want to use the Time Capsule as an external hard drive, but the Airport Utility on my new computer does not recognize it, even after performing a reset and connecting it directly to my iMac with an ethernet cable.  The Airport Utility only recognizes the Airport Extreme Base Station and the two Airport Express Base Stations.  I have scheduled a genius bar appointment but also wanted to try to post my problem in the Apple Support Community to see what responses I might get.
    Thanks,
    Dorothy

  • Time Capsule USB no longer recognized

So, about 3 months ago I bought a USB drive/flash drive/whatever big enough to use as my Time Capsule backup disk. I ran TC and everything backed up perfectly, even did two maintenance backups at 2 week intervals. I inserted my drive the other night to update my backup files and the USB drive won't show up in Finder. I tried it on my sister's MacBook too, and it didn't show up on hers either. Anyone have any advice other than "go buy another drive"? I'm on the "grad school budget" and can't really spring for another one.

  • Time Capsule Icon No Longer Appears on Desktop

Two weeks ago I had AT&T U-verse cable, internet, & phone installed. As part of that installation they installed an AT&T router/wireless combination. The ethernet cable that was previously connected to Time Capsule is now connected to the AT&T device. There is no longer any ethernet connection to Time Capsule. The Time Capsule icon still appeared on my desktop and I manually performed back-ups from my Windows applications to Time Capsule. Time Capsule went from displaying a constant green light to displaying a flashing yellow light. That worked for several days. After about a week of that there appeared on my screen a 'wizard' of some sort recognizing the status of Time Capsule. It said this 'wizard' would eliminate the flashing yellow light. I followed the steps through the 'wizard' and at one point the flashing yellow light turned to constant green. There were a few more steps in the 'wizard' and when it was finished the flashing yellow light reappeared. The next time I tried saving files from Windows I could not connect to my w: drive, and the Time Capsule icon no longer appeared on my Mac desktop. I went into Airport Utilities and there is a box checked that should display the icon properly. Any ideas what's happening? How do I restore Time Capsule so I can back-up my files. Thank you.

    Welcome to the discussions!
I don't have 10.6.1 yet, but have noticed this happens very occasionally on my MacBook Pro, but not on my iMac. Simply resetting Time Machine on my laptop has done the trick.
    Open System Preferences
    Click on Time Machine
Click your Time Capsule to highlight it
    Click Use for Backups
If that does not do it then delete the "com.apple.TimeMachine.plist" file. It's located as follows:
Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences
    Restart your computer
Then perform the same steps as above to setup Time Machine again.
The resets will not affect any of your backups.

  • My airport time capsule will no longer allow our iPhones or vizio smart tvs to connect to it, though my iPad air mac mini and mac air connect fine. Why is this? does a recent software update have anything to do with it?

What model is your TC? What is the firmware?
I recommend you do a factory reset and use short names.. not apple recommended names.
Short.. 2-20 characters .. less than 10 even better.
    No spaces.
    Pure alphanumeric.
Set fixed channels for 2.4ghz wireless.. test with 11, 6, 1 at least.
That often helps.. if not and is old, ie Gen1-4 go back to 7.6.1 firmware which is far more solid.

  • HELP ME PLEASE: MY TIME CAPSULE IS NO LONGER WORKING FOR ME

Due to a recent move,  my Time Capsule doesn't seem to have the range & strength that it once did.
    - A Local Internet Provider (MEDIACOM) installed their Router for our Internet/Internet Phone Service.
    - Due to the required use of the Provider's Router, I had to set my Time Capsule in "Bridge Mode" to function.
    - Although my computer can recognize BOTH (MEDIACOM & my Time Capsule) networks, I select & use my Time Capsule for my Home Wireless Network.
    - It seems to me, that in "Bridge Mode" my Time Capsule doesn't have the range & strength that it once did. For whatever the reason, I need to increase my Wireless range.
    - I ONLY use the Wireless WiFi (My Home Network) to access my e-mail/Internet from my iMac or IPAD.  All "other" Internet access (streaming) is done through my TV system, which is hard wired to the Internet.  Again, the Internet is hard-wired and directly connected to the TV's receiver. Thus, there isn't a huge demand for my Wireless Home Network. It's also password protected so nobody else is using it.
    - I will admit that I'm now in a much bigger house (about twice as big as the previous home).  Also, I usually have to access it on the opposite end of the house.
How do I extend my Wireless range? Any suggestions, How To's, or useful websites would be most appreciated. In other words, what hardware do I need to purchase & how do I set it up?  My Tech knowledge is very limited. I think the solution will need to also be wireless because the distance is to great for ETHERNET.  That is, unless I can use what is already wired into my home.  For example, I'm told there is a CAT 5 Access point (whatever that is) very near the vicinity of where I need wireless access.  Would the purchase of another Time Capsule potentially solve my problem?

  • Time Capsule - can no longer access on MBP Leopard

For the past 6 or 7 weeks I can no longer access my Time Capsule from my MBP Leopard. However, I do not beleive this is a Time Capsule issue as I am still accessing (and backing up) successfully from a MBP running Snow Leopard. Note, the access and backup were running fine for over a year and suddenly just stopped working. I've done the basics like repair permissions, software update, checked everything. For soem reason, when I try to access, I can see the Time Capsule, I can connect until I get to Data then "mylaptop Sparse Bundle". When I choose that disk image backup - just continues for ever and ever with a dialog box that says "trying to connect" or something like that.
    Any ideas appreciated ...
    thanks

"the current volume could not be mounted". Also "The Current Time Machine backup disk can;t be found".
Has this Mac had any problems since the last successful backup? Such as hardware repairs, especially a new logic board? A full restore?
Is the +sparse bundle+ currently mounted? If so, eject it and try again.
If not, or if that doesn't help, try a "full reset" of Time Machine, per #A4 of Troubleshooting.
Interesting to note that the final backup (7 weeks ago) failed - it looked like hourly backups worked and the final one failed ("says in progress" ?)
Yes, that's the partial, failed backup. Since it's incomplete, it won't appear in the "Star Wars" display, etc. Once Time Machine gets started, it will "recover" it, and convert it into a normal backup, with a new date & Time.
After that long without a backup, Time Machine will have a lot of work to do (including recovering the partial backup), so connect via Ethernet if at all possible. It will still take a while, but be 2-3 times faster than WIFI.

  • Time Capsule With Windows 7 Please Help Going Round in Circles!

    Hi
have just got a 1Tb time capsule for Xmas. I have a 13" Macbook unibody and have installed the time machine and airport utility through this, thinking apple computer + apple time capsule will be easier. All went well and the Macbook sees the Drive and has backed itself up nicely. So very pleased.
Then the problem i have a windows 7 machine and went off and installed the airport utility on the machine. All went fine, but i cant see the HDD, i can see it in network places but all i can do is read it, i can't write to it from my windows machine. Have looked at loads of posts about mapping drives making sure latest firmware (7.5) etc but am totally lost as i read so many different things that i just ended up going round in circles!
What i wanted to do was put all my media, documents and pics on the TC and allow both machines to share from it and use it. But no matter what i try it seems i can only write to it from the mac. I have seen in the airport utility on the windows machine under disks (after selecting manual setup)> file sharing that the secure shared disks is set to "with device password", now i have the passwords, i just cant seem to see where i can see that drive in windows and where to enter the password!!! Should that be set to something else? File sharing is enabled.I assumed once i had installed the airport utility on the windows machine the HDD would just pop up in my computer or something like it popped up easily on the mac! Or am i being stupid and it doesnt work like that?
The windows machine is connected via ethernet and the mac is wireless.
Please can someone help as its driving me mad and i just cant seem to figure it out. Am not that computer savvy when it comes to things like this and am probably missing something really stupid but you know what its like when you have stared at something for hours. Any help would be most appreciated or SIMPLE guide or something
Many thanks in advance and happy Xmas to you all

Just an update to the above i can now no longer see the time capsule in network places!! All i have done is retstarted!!! I can still see the time capsule from my mac and access it!!!

  • Why won't my Airport Utility/Time Capsule Work any longer?

Time Capsule has not completed a back-up in over a year. Prior back-ups appear to be incomplete.  Once started, Time Capsule gets hung up during attempt to connect and eventually fails. All efforts to reset, unplug, have failed to help. It is connected to an iMac and otherwise functions perfectly as Wi-FI for my iPAd and iPhone. Any thoughts/direction will be most appreciated.

What model TC? Exact number from the base.. A1xxx, and how old?
    Do a full factory reset.
Is connected to imac mean ethernet? Please do the setup in complete isolation from the network.. so nothing plugged into the TC except imac and turn off wireless in the imac.
Do the setup again, with minimal setup.. I think I would just erase the drive and start over as the old backups will take longer to sort through than starting over.
Once you get a clean fresh new full backup from TM.. then see how you go putting it back in the network.
If it still fails, even isolated then it is faulty.. more than 3years old TC is not reliable.

  • Time Capsule Degrades Wireless Internet Connection: Help?

Time Capsule Degrades Wireless Internet Connection: I am in FL using Brighthouse Cable as my internet provider (15MG down). The internet connection speed is slower than a dial up connection when wirelessly connected to my network to my Time Capsule. When I remove the Time Capsule and replace it with Brighthouses Netgear router the internet speed are normal (fast). Additionally, the internet speed is OK when I first hit a website, but the speed degrades rapidly as I access additional web pages. I no longer use my Time Capsule and therefore are not getting my back-up protection. (NOTE: I tried Verizon Fios and had the same problem.) Can anyone help?

Bought the time capsule in Oct 2013.  I have a Sagemcom 2864 modem from Bell but used through Teksavvy.  The 5 ghz has been flaky until I upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.1 I think.  I had a closer look at it and it appears that the wifi is ok.  I was thrown off by the wifi symbol being all animated in the menu bar.  I was able to ping the time capsule via wifi.  All the status lights on the modem looked ok.  Next time it happens, I'll see if I can get some more details.  Do you know if there's anyway to get some logs from the airport utility?

  • Setting up network with ATT Uverse, Time Capsule, and Airport Extreme..HELP

    PLEASE HELP!
I have ATT U-Verse which provides their own router. My Time Capsule is connected to the router (in the living room) via an Ethernet cable and has been working fine, and is set up like this:
Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network (I joined the ATT network 2wire)
    Network name: 2wirexyz
    Wireless Security: WPA/WPA2 Personal
    Channel: 5
    Connect Using: Wireless Network
When I try to add my Airport Extreme (for wireless printing in the office) by adding it to the same network (I've also tried to extend the network option) the Airport Utility thinks forever then comes up with an error and the Airport continues to flash amber. I've tried resetting the Extreme multiple times and configuring different ways but same result.
What am I doing wrong?? Please help, my wife is giving me grief for not being able to print wirelessly from her MacBook!!
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me!

    Thank you Tessarax....
So does that mean I need to create a separate wireless network? I apologize, I'm not extremely familiar with how to complete what you've suggested. I know I've seen the bridge mentioned before in the Airport Utility when I've been trying different things. Would you mind giving me some more specific instructions please? Actually I just tried messing around with Airport Utility, let me know if I'm headed in the right direction:
For TC wireless mode I want to "Participate in a WDS network"?
Then where does my WDS remote come from? is that the Airport Extreme? I've plugged in the AEBS but it's not showing up in the Airport Utility...
I'll mess around with it some more tomorrow morning. Thanks I'll let you know how it goes.

  • Time Machine HD no longer recognized

The hard drive I've been using for Time Machine is no longer being recognized by the OS or Time Machine. I've tested the drive, and it 100% works. I've also tested the USB ports and they work too! I tried plugging it into another Mac and it also ignores the drive. I feel like Time Machine messed up something and now the drive is being ignored. The drive sometimes shows up in the disk utility but never with the drive name so I can't verify the disk or anything.

what do you mean the drive 100% works? if it doesn't show up in disk utility and doesn't mount that is clearly not the case. if you can't repair the drive and it doesn't mount you have to reformat it. this will wipe the drive of course.

  • Time Capsule is no longer deteced via WiFi

I have a 1TB Time Capsule(TC) that I purchased some time between 2008 and 2009. It's not dead and is still functioning through ethernet as well as the hard drive. I first noticed the network was not appearing on my iPhone 4. I tried ressetting passwords, but it still would not appear. At this time both my MBP 13 early 2011 and MBP 15 2007 still detected the TC. Now a day later the TC is no longer detected on any of my machines except the Mac Mini it is hard wired to. All of my machines are running 10.7.2, and have the current firmware updates. Airport utility cannot detect the TC either.
Before I do a hard reset on the TC has anyone else had an issue similar to this?
P.S. I checked the webs for known issues and all I could find was dead TC that have serials in the range of XX807XXXXXX - XX814XXXXXX, but mine is in the XX908 . . . range.

Yeah, if you have access to the TC by ethernet it isn't dead.. which is almost like a switch.. usually one day working, next day it won't even turn on.. but wireless can fail.. as can any electronic device.
A reset is worth a go.. see if it then can be accessed and start with simple wireless name and no security. Try using the manual setup and use 2.4ghz on fixed channels.. test on 1, 6, 11 which are the 3 non-overlapping channels.
Is yours a dual band simultaneous? If so also set a different wireless name for 5ghz so the devices that can see both like the MBP cannot just swap band whenever they want. That messes things up chronic.

  • Time Capsule 50 Device Limit Question/Help

I have a Time Capsule and I understand they are limited to 50 devices.  Well, I must have reached my 50 device limit, because I can not connect any additonal devices.  How do I go about deleting past devices so newer devices can connect?  I've done a reset, but that does not do it.

    A full factory reset will.
    The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
Set the dhcp server time to 20min.. that will quickly recover the IP of any device that is no longer connected.
A gen3 TC btw is more than 3years old now.. mostly.. and will be unreliable.. it needs replacement.. they are not long life devices.

  • Time Capsule full, no longer deleting deleting old backups automatically

Hi, My Time Capsule needs to backup 18.32 GB, but ther'e only 15.20 GB left on it, so it tells me that it couldn't complete the backup.   It used to delete old backups automatically when it ran out of space, but, for whatever reason, it isn't doing that anymore.
    Can anyone help, please?

Unfortunately, the Time Capsule cannot delete enough information to be able to make room for the new backup.
It would take forever to try to manually delete backups...and might not be successful....so you really are faced with a decison on whether you want to:
    1) Add a new Time Capsule and start with a new "master" backup and move forward from there. You can keep the old Time Capsule connected and go back to browse backups there if you need to do so.
    2) Erase the Time Capsule and start over with a new "master" backup and move forward from there.
If you really don't need all the old backups from months ago, and you don't mind starting over again, this makes sense for a lot of users. I usually start over about every 6 months or so, but your needs may vary.
