My Time Capsule's light remains blinking amber

Hello all, I've just updated my modem/router for a faster one and I'm now finding it difficult to get my Time Capsule to give me a "green light" status. I can access the internet (as you can see) but I'm not sure that the Time Capsule is fully functional when it's flashing amber continuously. Does anyone have any information on what mught be going on?
Many thanks.

Thanks for the prompt response LaPlastenague. After a lot of mucking around, I managed to get the Time Capsule to recognise the new modem by changing the comms setting from DHCP+NAT to Off (Bridged). I was under the mistaken impression that the Off (Bridged) setting wouldn't allow me internet access but that is not the case. I did this using the Airport Utility settings when clicking on the elements of the network diagram (as instructed by the screen prompts).
Thanks and best regards,

  • Airport Utility cannot find Time Capsule and has a blinking amber light

I have a wireless router for my Wifi set up through AT&T (2WIRE). I am trying to add my TC to my existing network rather than establishing a new Wifi network with it. When I try to plug in my TC to set it up, Airport Utility cannot even find it. My TC has a blinking amber light also. I have tried reseting my TC, resetting my router, unplugging my router, unplugging my TC... I have the latest version of Air Port utility (6.2 (620.33)).

Connect the TC LAN port to the computer by ethernet.
If necessary do a reset of the TC so it shows up.
Put the TC into bridge mode.
Go to the wireless page, and set wireless to off.
Update the TC.. disconnect from the PC and plug WAN port to LAN port of the 2wire with ethernet.
The TC will now exist as a client in your network without creating a second wireless network.
You should also be able to access the TC via the airport utility.
I do think you should use the TC wireless since the 2wire does not provide a signal at 5ghz which is much faster than 2.4ghz.
So I do suggest you in fact do use the wireless but it is up to you.
It makes no difference having two wireless networks if they both connect back to the same router.
Do not use the "Join a wireless network" method.. ie no cable between the TC and 2wire.. that is poorest possible setup.

My time capsule green light turned yellow. What do I have to do?

This is not really the correct place for your enquiry.   However, here are a couple of links that appear to deal with your question.

  • When I plug in apple tv the status light just blinks amber and nothing appears on the screen

When I plug in my apple tv (first gen) the status light just blinks amber and nothing appears on the screen.  The status light never turns white and won't stops blinking amber.  I've tried to over ride this with the remote, resetting it and trying to revert it to the factory settings.  Is there a way to wake it up or is it a lost cause?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The system looks like it's unable to start up, this could be software but more likely hardware, either way unless it will start up there is nothing a user can do to resolve this.

  • Time Capsule Status light is off

Why is the Time Capsule Status light off even though it is plugged in? The disc is spinning but it is not found in Airport Utility.

You have a Gen4 (look on the base A1409) that has committed ritual suicide..
Leave it unpowered for 12 hours.. then plug in again.. does the LED flash at all at start up.. LEDs on the ethernet ports.. no flash then no recovery.
It is now dead. At least the main router part is. The disk spinning shows it is not a failed power supply.. unfortunately I cannot even offer you a repair method. I did get one that failed that way.. pulled it apart and checked all the power supplies inside.. nothing was bad.. put it back to together and it started working again.. I do not know why but it has been reliable and working ever since. I do not therefore know what was actually the fault.
All I can suggest is the same treatment.. you have to pull it down and actually lift the board out.. ensure all the heat sink sticky tabs are connected and put it back together.. who knows.
You can at least recover what is on the hard disk if you need to, by putting the hard disk in a USB holder and plugging it into your computer.
If it is less than 3years old and you have applecare on a computer, you bought within 2years of the purchasing the TC.. apple may replace it.. check the rules as they are complex and convoluted.

  • MSI GS70 : Battery Light Indicator Blinking Amber

Hey everyone,  my MSI GS70's battery status light started blinking amber a few days ago. It blinks amber whenever the battery is fully charged with or without the adapter plugged-in. The battery is still working, and the blinking amber light goes away when the battery level drops from 100%.
When the battery level is at 99%, and I plug in the adapter, it starts charging the battery. I remember the battery doesn't get charged when it's at this level.
FYI I hardly use my laptop on battery, always using with the adapter plugged-in, so I'm very confused!!
    Thanks.

  • HT1178 i can't connect the time capsule with my mac using the aiport utility. i want to use the time capsule to make backup for my mac book pro. the time capsule is giving a flashed amber light. please advice me

the time capsule is giving flashed amber light and i cant connect it to my mac book pro. i want to use it with the time machine to make backup for my mac. please advice me.

To do the setup, plug it in via ethernet.. do not try to setup over wireless.. Once it is setup you can plug the TC into the network and use wireless.
Most likely you will use the TC in bridge to an existing modem router.. but we cannot help as you have no details of the network setup.
I do recommend in the setup of the TC you use SMB type names.. that means, short, no spaces pure alphanumeric.. as later Mac OS do have issues with long names, spaces and that apple shocker, the apostrophe.

  • Time Capsule Connection Help Needed (Flashing Amber)

    Guys,
I've been trying to troubleshoot my Time Capsule connection for a week now and I have had zero luck.
I have a Imac with OSX 10.6.8  that uses AirPort v 5.6.1.  I have a Cat-5 (ethernet cable) plugged from my Time Capsule port (looks like this <-->) into an available port in my cable mode/router.  My Imac is also plugged into this router.  The two cat-5 (ethernet) cables are side by side.
    So....
Every time I plug in the Time Capsule I get the following prompt via AirPort.
AirPort Utility found a Time Capsule 802.11n (4th Generation) that is
    reporting problems.
Time Capsule's Name :  My Capsule
              IP Address: 10.0.1.1
              Versino: 7.6.1
              AirPort ID: 12:88:93:CC:FF:72
If this is not the AirPort wireless devise you want to setup you can select another from the list on the left. If you don't see it make sure.... Blah blah blah....
To make a long story tollerable I do see my Time Capsule on the left at the top. Its the only one and its selected by default.  So I do the next logical thing right?  I click "Continue" and AirPort reads the Time Capsule's configuration.... and then...... I get the error
An error occurred while reading the configuration.
Make sure your Apple Wi-Fi base station is plugged
in and in range of your computer or connected via
    Ethernet and try again. (-6753)
Can anyone help me understand why I can grab the Time Capsule's IP Address but AirPort can not read the hardware's (Time Capsule) config?
    I'm at a loss.
Could my ethernet cable be the issue?

    Hackintosh,
Thanks man... Yes, I plugged it into the circle symbol with no joy.  I also went to Wal Mart and baught a new seven foot cat-5 for $10.  Again I still have the flashing amber light.
After plugging in the ethernet cable into the circle icon port AirPort returns the following prompt.
I reset the TC (ball point pen to the reset hole untill fast blinking amber light occurs) and entered the needed params and it returns this error.
An error occured close the configuation window and try again.
It must be a config parameter that I'm setting incorrectly. There's a bunch so who knows what I'm doing wrong.
I just need the to talk to my Imac so i can get a backup executed. A wireless connection will take too long.
FYI: The cat-5 is brand new and is 100% functional (green light on the TC and router.)

  • Time Capsule goes back to blinking yellow.

I have now rebooted my Time Capsule several times since setup a couple weeks ago to restore the solid green light. Ironically everything seems to continue working (internet and backup) with the blinking yellow - I think. How do I stop the time capsule from going back to a warning sign? And is there truly something I should be concerned about when it is blinking yellow? I am running two MacBook Pros and my wife and I both take them to other locations out of range and usually just "close the lid" on our laptops without powering off the MacBooks (Yes, occasionally we do deliberately power down and reboot - I've been told that's good to do now and again). Love the fact that as soon as we arrive home, and start using the Macs, the backup process begins automatically. Want to make sure that process is continuing without interruption. That's why we bought Time Capsule. Thanks!

And is there truly something I should be concerned about when it is blinking yellow?
A green light signals that eveything is working normally on the Time Capsule.
A flashing amber light is doing so for a reason. To find out why....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click Manual Setup
Click directly on the word Status (2nd line on the summary page) and another window will open to explain why the Time Capsule is complaining, along with suggested remedies
If everything appears to be normal on the network, the flashing amber light might be a message that there is an update available for your Time Capsule.

  • Airport extreme time capsule yellow light - no Internet - cable modem does work

Is their a reset button on the time capsule or am I out of luck.
Yes I have turned on and off etc. the cable modem has been tested and is functioning ... Do jthese units go bad.
    Thanks friends

    Airport Extreme
    or
    Time Capsule
    These are two different devices?
You have a yellow light on both of them?
However, yes, you can reset either one of them.
A yellow light could mean there is just an update for each one of them.
But if yours isn't working there is another problem.
See this Apple doc about the blinking yellow light:

  • I have a new Airport Extreme and an old airport express.  I am getting an amber light on the new Extreme and a green light on the Express.   I have internet no problem but the status light is blinking amber

I have a new Airport Extreme and and old airport express.  I am getting an amber status light on the Extreme and a green light on the Express.  The Extreme is blinking amber all the time.
I have internet and everything seems to be working.
I have reset and pulled the power cord on both the extreme and the internet block
How do I make it Green?

If things seem to be working OK, but the amber light is flashing......the AirPort Extreme has a message for you. To see what that might be......
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme icon
Click on the amber dot in the small window
It might be a message that a firmware update is available for your AirPort Extreme.

  • My time capsule went back to flashing amber after I relocated it to a different room following initial setup.

I recently purchased a 2 TB Time Capsule to serve as a wireless back up to my new Macbook Air. I plugged the TC into my my router with an Ethernet cable, and powered up the TC. I followed the instructions to create a new wireless network. Everything seemed to function properly and I had no problems with it. However, the router is in my roommates room. So after the setup, I unplugged the TC (and disconnected it from the router) and moved it into my room. I powered it back up expected it to serve as a wireless base station but Airport Utility couldn't locate the TC. After having a green light while plugged into the router. It only has a flashing amber when it isn't. Is my problem with how I set up the Time Capsule, or do I have to adjust something on my router? I have a Belkin Router.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    You have a problem..
The TC needs to be part of the network.. otherwise you cannot connect to it..
And the TC needs to be plugged in by ethernet to the main router to do that.
And the wireless client on a computer cannot connect to more than one wireless network at a time.
So.. either the TC is plugged into the router and stays there..
Or you setup the TC in your room in isolation to the network.. and select the TC wireless network now and then to do backups..
Or you join the TC wirelessly to the belkin.. this is the worst possible setup as it will push all packets via the belkin to the TC.. super slow.. plus clog the connection.
Or buy the USB to ethernet or spend the bit extra .. thunderbolt to ethernet adapter for the MBA and plug into the TC by ethernet.. hugely fast.. much better. But wires.. you were doubtless thinking to avoid.
Or you buy a second usb wireless stick for the MBA.. these are pretty small and no more expensive than the ethernet dongle.. and use two wireless networks.. if you go this way give me a hoy.. and I can explain the slightly more complex setup required.
Welcome to the real world.. Matrix kind of line. Nasty place full of reality.

  • Time capsule green light - airport utility can't find time capsule

Hi guys, well here is my story. I struggled to get the TC to connect to my wireless network which is already being provided by a motorola wireless modem. I read somewhere that although 7.3.1 lists support for WEP it doesn't actually support it, so I changed all my security to WPA. Then I got the TC online and all was good, except for the slow transfer times, even from a USB HD that was plugged direct into the TC. So I then plugged in the TC via ethernet and moved the huge amounts of files in much faster succession. Now it's come time to make the TC connect wirelessly again. It just won't do it if I do auto setup, so I do a manual set up. I enter my WPA passwords, I set the TC to bridge mode and low and behold after restart the light on the TC goes green. Hooray!!! Then I go into finder but I can't see the time capsule, so I go to airport utility, it can no longer find the TC it just changed the settings on, that made it connect to the network. Airport utility claims there are no app;e wireless devices to be found...
Please help, how do I discover my TC?
Should I have changed the IPv6 to tunnel or node?
Also, when I click advanced in wireless the only option I see is for interference robustness, nothing about 2.4 or 5ghz. Where can I change this?
Any help would be great, cheers.

I'm having a similar issue, but only sporadically. My TC is plugged directly into my cable modem...it is the only wireless router in the system. The latest firmware updates are installed, and my MacBook Pro has 10.5.2 (installed via the combo update). Another Macbook and a mac mini, both with 10.4, also accesses the wireless network.
Here's an example of TIme Capsule drop-out: this morning when I woke my Macbook Pro, it couldn't find the network. TC had a green light, so I opened Airport Utility. It couldn't find the TC. I unplugged the TC and waited for it to reboot. After it restarted, the wireless network connected just fine, but the TC itself didn't appear in the finder window. I opened Airport Utility again, and the TC appeared, but with a yellow dot next to it. The light on the TC itself was green. I tried to rescan the port, and the TC disappeared again. Wireless network was still working, though. A few minuted later, I rescanned again and the TC appeared. I clicked on Manual setup, and Airport scanned again and couldn't find the TC. I left it in frustration, and came back two hours later. Voila, the TC appears in the finder window and Airport has no problem accessing it.
So what the heck? I'm willing to wipe it and start over, but I just installed the thing. All I've done is set up time machine, run the firmware update, plugged in a usb hub with a couple of shared drives and a printer (which doesn't print more than a couple of pages at a time before it freezes, but that's an issue for another post).
Any thoughts and suggestion greatly appreciated!

  • I have a Time Capsule and it is flashing amber.  The airport utility says that there are no DNS servers.  How do i fix this?

I can still connect to the wifi signal with my computer but it won't stop flashing amber until i fix this issue

Have you configured the wireless on the Time Capsule? Do you have the wireless port enabled on the computer? Are you connected to the wireless network of the Time Capsule?
In Airport Utility using the Wireless panel here's what it looks like on my AEBS:
In your Network preferences you should see:
There should be a valid IP address for IPv4 that should begin with 10.0.1.

  • Airport extreme setup. Airport express reset to factory settings. Light stays blinking amber. Utility won't recognize

AIrport extreme is setup. Airport express reset to factory settings. Light continues to blink amber. Utility will not recognize express to setup

Thanks. We understand that you want to use the Express to set up a separate wireless network with another modem, is that correct?
Unfortunately, we did not receive an answer to the questions that we asked above and have repeated again below regarding the AirPort Express and AirPort Utility. We asked these questions because not all versions of the AirPort Express are compatible with all versions of AirPort Utility.
What model of AirPort Express do you have?  If you are not sure, please locate the model number on the side or bottom of the AirPort Express. It starts with an "A" followed by four numbers.  It might be something like A1264 or A1392.
What version of AirPort Utility are you using? If you are not sure, please open AirPort Utility, click on the AirPort Utility menu in the upper left corner of the screen, and then click on About AirPort Utility.
