this is HALF the greatness of iCal!!! HELP!!!

Why I can't delete an item in iCal on iPad 2? The user manual says: click on the item, choose 'Edit' or something like that and then 'Delete'.
But clicking on the item only shows the details and not any window for Editing the item.
I wanted to delete an item in a calendar that is synchronized via Google.

If you are In the "Day"view in the calendar app, tap on the event and a window opens up with a red "Delete Event" button at the bottom of the window. Tap that button and then another "Delete Event" button pops up. Tap that to delete.
In the week view, tap the event and then a window pops up with "Edit" in it - it is in the upper right corner of that window - tap edit, and then repeat the process described above.
I do not use the Google calendar and maybe the way you have that set up will not allow you to do this directly on the Calendar app on the iPad.

Printing Only Incomplete To Do Items In iCal

I maintain a "forever" history of To Do items inside iCal, and display only those items not yet completed (ie "Hide Completed" after 0 days"). All of my To Do's are entered as "High Priority" and non have due dates attached.
I would like to be able to print out a list each day of the open To Do items, but anything with a calendar inclusion does not seem to include any of the to do items. If I set the print format to "List" without any calendar items, I get the To Do listing, but it includes all the completed items - which I do not want shown.
How can I get the printing format I want?

There does not seem to be a way to solve this issue within iCal or within preferences.
The solution (after a bit of digging around) is to download and buy a program called Things. It provides all the functionality for Tasks that iCal certainly does not. The best part is that it has a two-way sync between its own database and iCal. Printing is great, and everything can be viewed in custom orders etc etc. I highly recommend this solution.

Problems with editing items in ical

I use ical with icloud on my Imac, Ipad and 3 Iphones.
When i change an item on one of these devices and you press OK, you get to see your edited item for just a few seconds before ical changes the item back tot its old settings.
So lets say you want to change the time of an item in your agenda from 12.00 to 02.00 for example, it will show your changes for a few seconds before the item is back on 12.00 again.
This does not happen all the time. I thought it had something to do with editing items while ical is synchronizing but when you wait till its finished synchronizing it still happends sometimes. Eventually after editing the **** item 3 -5 times ical approves the changes but **** its annoying when you are in a hurry or dont have time to check up after you edited an item and it changes back without you seeing it.
All devices have had their latest updates and are all connected to the internet either by 3G, WiFi or LAN.
Anyone has an idea about how this is possible?

Sorry I am having terrible trouble with even working out how to reply to these forums. I use photoshop elements 8 (and I have also tried Gimp) as I cannot afford CS5. The photo seem to be edited as TIFF and they do get imported. The photos seem to stack, but I am unable to open the stack to view the edited image - I thought when you click the stack it should expand and show all the editions of the photos next to each other. Sometimes - rarely - this works, but most of the time only the original raw file shows up. The crazy thing is even searching for the filename.tif doesn't find the file, even when I copy and paste the file name from Windows Explorer. But the edited file is in the catalogue somewhere because after deleting the original, the edited file shows up as above.
I dread having to edit the files in PE8 because of this, but sometimes this is necessary to be able to use layers and filters.
Note that using Gimp is just the same. I think the problem is in Lightroom.

Items entered into iCal, either on iPhone or iMac, aren't always updated to other devices, or are removed from devices when syncing with iTunes.

OK well that's bizarre.
I also noted that in Entourage, under Preferences there is a sync option. In that I selected all three as follows:
1. Synchronize with Address Book and .mac
2. Synchronize events and tasks with iCal and .mac
and
3. Synchronize Entourage Notes with .mac
Now I assume for some odd reason that despite having the most recent updates, Entourage still refers to .mac as opposed to MobileMe. That's fine I guess. But why just Entourage Notes? Why note the calendar app in Entourage?
Arghh !!! ...
Anyone else have any ideas?

How come you can't view your To-Do items in Ical on the Ipad 2?

I have To-Do items listed on my ICal on my mac, mobile me site, and on my email but there is no option that I can find to show those to-do items on my Ipad 2 or my Iphone 4?

Not in the calendar - you'll have to use a 3rd-party app that syncs with iCal.

Copy multiple items from ical alters sorting order

I use OSX leopard with iCal 3.0.1. I would like to select multiple items and copy-paste them into a text document or spreadsheet. I use iCal to keep track of people's working hours and I need to send the hours to salary admin at the end of each month.
Using the "search" option within iCal, I can select all item concerning the working hours of, let's say, "George". If I copy-paste them into another application (Word, Mail, Numbers, Excel) the sorting order of the items altered. It looks like a rather random order. I want to have it ordered by date opbviously! Does anyone recognize this problem?

Where are configuration items for iCal stored?

I'm looking to manage some calendar configurations items (i.e. "Show: X hours at a time").

Looks like the configuration can be updated with the defaults command. For example, setting the "Show: X hours at a time" can be set to 10 with the command below.
$ defaults write ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist "number of hours displayed" 10
The Issue now is that I have to Quit and Re-Launch Calendar for the change to be implemented. Any ideas on how to have Calendar reload the configuration without Re-Launching?

Is it possible to spellcheck items in iCal

I cannot find a way to spellcheck (and fix) items that I've misspelled (and copied over and over) throughout my calendar. The contextual menu items in "Spelling & Grammar" do nothing. Does anyone know of a way to find/replace items that are misspelled?

You can't really filter properties from a specific class such as lists to specific users. You could create request offerings that use templates with the specific list item selected but they could sill change the selection if they wanted to.

Why can i not see items on ical on my iphone that are older than 6 months ago?

I could be wrong but I dont believe Itunes supports restoring your music from your ipod to a new PC, if you sync from the new pc you will likely lose the music on your ipod. If you search the internet there are third party software programs which will help you retrieve your music from your ipod if it is the only copy you now have. If the music was purchased from itunes you will be able to download it again.

How do I find the "new" item in iCal

My iCal tells me there is one new event, the badge shows up by the icon in the task bar, and the calendar name has (1) next to it. I would like to "read" or mark this event as "not new". The problem is, I don't know which one it is or how to locate it. I was not able to search for just "new" events, for example.
Does anyone know how to locate this "new" event? The iCal syncs with Exchange.

There are three icons located at the bottom left of the iCal window. One is an "Envelope" icon. Click on that icon to reveal your options.

Cant add an item to iCal

Each time I click to add an event in iCal I keep getting the following message "You cannot change events or To Do in a read-only calendar."
How do I correct this as It;s my first time using iCal.

You are evidently attempting to modify a read-only calendar, which by definition, is not possible. Examples of such calendars are Apple's UK Calendar, or any other calendar that you have subscribed to.
To create a new, read-writable calendar, simply select New Calendar from the File menu. To add a new event while in the Month view, double-click on the day and insert the information in the right sidebar which appears.

I'm afraid you can't. Events can recur, but not ToDos. The standard permits it but Apple has not implemented it.
