My TOC is 3 pages!

My book looks great except for the TOC which is on 3 pages. It does not, however, appear in the preview. It's not due to an  over abundance of chapters and sections asthe first TOC page has one item on it.
Please help, I'm on a deadline.
Thanks in advance.

Which template did you use?
You may want to experiment w/various templates to see the differnent TOCs offered.
Forget the Preview and export/share to iTunes, then sync to see the actuall/full rendered book.
Can't help w/the deadline, sorry.

    Is there TOC feature in Pages for iPad?

    I think it not an unreasonable feature request for a word prcessor. I feel that in scaling pages down to the iPad Apple has also made the product a little less attractive for professional usage. For example pages for iPad really should preserve Endnotes created elsewhere, but it does not at present. A shame, but we can hope that in subsequent versions of pages for iPad that support or preservation of advanced word processing features is introduced.

  • TOC problem in pages

    Hello friends,
    I just purchased the iWork 08 package because i just want to avoid MS office. Hence, when i tried to open my thesis in word format, the pages seems cannot recognise most of the tables, text boxes, and most importantly the table of content and it says the inspector cannot recognize the heading formats in the word documrnt. Is it mean that I need to redefine all the headings and sub-headings int he document in order to use the TOC function in pages 08?
    I tried to open a test document in pages 08, then type something and define some lines as headins, follow the instruction to open the inspector and select desired heading levels for the TOC, hence in the sections button of the format bar, it does not have any option to create a TOC as described in the tutorial from Apple, instead it has only two options, a blank page or a text page, is it anything wrong with the pages 08? what is the correct way to create a TOC in pages and to import one from my old Word documents?
    Please help...
    Tony.

    Colin,
    One of the first comments I made in this discussion group an hour after purchasing iWork '08 was my confusion about the difference between the two modes. After using it for months now, I've come to the conclusion that it's a response to the insanely huge amount of tech support calls they must have gotten from people wanting to know why they couldn't drag and move objects in Pages 2. Apple must have gotten tired of explaining to people the difference between Fixed On Page (now called Floating) and Moves With Text (now called Inline). My guess is that it was easier for Apple to add a Page Layout mode in which all objects are defined as Floating, since Inline objects can only appear on a text layer. Apple simply chose to remove the text layer, thus eliminating Inline objects that can't be dragged, thus eliminating 90 percent of their tech-support calls. Truthfully, I preferred the old way, but then I'm on this discussion group every day and have the opportunity to learn little proactive tricks like clicking in the gray margin area to make the cursor disappear, then inserting an object. Or REactive tricks like selecting the object, then going to the Wrap inspector to change it from Inline to Floating. These are things that aren't very intuitive to new users, and I can understand their confusion. Apparently, Apple can, too.

  • TOC on a page

    I wonder if there is way of creating a TOC on a page.
    Would be great to just insert a TOC on one page listing all names of Sections, does anyone have any idea on how this could be done with automatically putting in the sections in the correct sequence?

    There could be a problem with the page itself. Let's try this first;
    *1
    Load the web page. (While you are at it, please post the link)
    After the page is loaded, hold down the <Shift> and reload the page.
    Does this help?
    *2
    '''[https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History#w_how-do-i-remove-a-single-website-from-my-history Remove History For One Site]'''
    Open the History Manager '''<Control><Shift> H.'''
    In the search bar, enter the name of the site.
    Right click on one of the listings and select '''Forget About This Site.'''
    This should remove all information, including any password.
    Then try again. Let us know how you are doing.

  • Page numbers displayed incorrectly in TOC in new Pages - does anybody know how to fix this?

    I'm working on a multi-section document with a single TOC for two sections. Section one uses lowercase roman numerals (i, ii,...) and section two arabic numerals (1, 2, ...). The page numbers are displayed correctly on the pages themselves, but in the TOC the first two headings from section two (pages 1 und 3) are displayed as "i" and "iii". This only started after the update to pages 5, everything was fine before that. Does anybody know how to fix this? I already tried deleting the TOC and inserting a new one and changing the numbers to uppercase letters and back, to no avail.
    thanks for any input

    Go back to Pages '09 inside the iWork Folder inside Applications.
    There are so many problems with Pages 5 it is difficult to know where to begin.

  • Pages to ePub: TOC and Title Page

    Hello everyone... please help! I'm pulling my hair out.
    When exporting from Pages to ePub, I'm having two issues:
    1- The Title Page (which is page 1 and has been selected as the cover of the book) does not appear or appears blank. What do I have to do to make it appear?
    2- I hear in all forums the need to build a TOC in addition to the one ePub already creates and that appears on the left hand side when the file is opened using an ebook reader. Can anyone please tell me why I have to do this and most importantly HOW to do it?
    Thank you very much!!

    Thank you for sharing such an informative post! I'd like to offer one small correction.
    My company publishes children's picture storybooks in print. These are edge to edge full color pages for those who may not be familiar with this format. Our early ePub's were always disappointing in that we could not duplicate the print format without showing considerable white margins on an e-reader. We have since solved that problem in order to achieve the maximum image size. There will always be some amount of white margin in ePub format, but our image output now nearly fills the screen of any e-reader.
    The 600X860 resolution is correct in order to achieve a wall to wall ePub image. The image must be created at that resolution for insertion into the document, and the page setup must also be set at the same dimension, which in inches is 8.333X11.944. You cannot, for example, use a smaller size image and drag it with constrained proportions to fill the viewport at the 600X860 resolution. The exported ePub file recognizes the portion of the image that is beyond the margins of the viewport and it will show up in an e-reader with a large white bottom margin.
    Dragging a smaller image than the 600X860 resolution to fill the viewport with unconstrained proportions will work, but of course distorts the image. So, create your images at 600X860, insert them into your doc, export to ePub and you will be happy, happy, happy!

  • Generated TOC and master pages

    Hi guys,
    I'm building a book and have a generated TOC. My question is 'when generating the TOC does FM reference anything in the master pages of files, e.g. subject/chapter headings, to help populate the TOC list?'
    The reason I'm asking is that I may have built my template incorrectly. I can't get my TOC to pull out subject headings and the like.
    Advice appreciated.
    Carl

    When you add a TOC to a book, FM gathers the list of paragraph tags to be used and puts them on a special reference page in the TOC file, the reference page is named "TOC". (In FM8, the name of the reference page is shown at the bottom of the TOC window when the Reference pages are viewed).
    If you've created the TOC correctly, by adding a generated TOC file to the book, FM should give you the opportunity to choose which paragraph styles are to be included in the TOC before the TOC is first created.  You can then generate the TOC file, save it and save the book, then go into the reference page to look at the entries.
    If your TOC isn't working correctly, I'd strongly suggest deleting it from the book, save the book, and add a new one, rather than messing with the Reference page, until you're comfortable with how the paratags are added and so on.
    One thing that folks often get mixed up about is that the paragraph styles in the regular chapter, e.g. Heading1, gets added to the TOC file and the corresponding paragraph style in the TOC would be "Heading1TOC". Because FM does this all automatically when the TOC is first created, it's much, much better to let FM do the heavy lifting rather than edit the Ref. page.

  • Why is my TOC not showing page images?

    All my TOCs are blank: my working ebook file and the template files that come with iBA show transparent boxes instead of images of the pages/chapters. Is there a "View" or Inspector setting I should change, or has something gone kaflooey?

    <div id="Body Area">
        <div id="Body Content"></div>
        <div id="Navigation Area"></div>
      </div>
    Also, once you get that fixed, you will need to clear the floats within the #Body_Area before closing it otherwise it'll collapse to a thin horizontal line.  Do that by adding "overflow:hidden" to the rule for that container.

  • TOC. Insert page. TOC contents is on page 1. Upon export it is last page ??

    Hi again,
    I am using a set of tutorials that outline how to create my ePub TOC.
    I used this method successfully for my last ebook.
    This time, I am subdividing my TOC.
    The TOC links are NOT Chronologically based by the chapter sequence
    but based upon a Subject.
    A fictional TOC example follows.
    Locations
        Alaska
        Hawaii
        California
        Maine
    Time periods
        1700s
        1800s
        1900s
        2000s
    PROBLEM.
    I needed to add or rather insert a page at the very beginning of my document (page 2) so that I could physically type in the TOC Contents as above.
    Layout > pages > insert pages > insert after page 2.
    When I export this....
    The TOC Contents is the very last page of the ePub.
    But in my inDesign Document it is on page 1.
    QUESTION 1.
    Can someone explain this please  ?
    Thanks again.
    I have the Indesign 800+ page PDF but there is not anything on TOC.
    Thanks again.

    It probably has something to do with how your text boxes are connected in InDesign. You need to put the table of contents in the "flow" of the book.

  • Getting chapter numbers to show up in the TOC with the page numbers...

    First, thank you all very much for posting replies.  This forum is wonderful.
    I have a doc that needs to have the chapter numbers show up with the page numbers in the TOC.
    I insert the <$chapnum> and <$currentpagenum> in the footer, and I get 1-1 to show up.
    To include the 1-1 in the TOC, do I have to edit the Reference Page, or is there another way.
    Thank you SO much for your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thank you VERY much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Got it to work.  However, my TOC will not update with the new building blocks.
    Have played and played with it.  Any suggestions?
    Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • TOC with Layout Pages

    I'm new to Pages. I have figured out how to do a TOC with the word processor files but if I use Layout Break and drop in layout pages, the TOC will not update to see any of the text in the text boxes, even if I declare it to be a style for the TOC (Header 1, etc.) I've looked online, in the manual and everywhere and can't find anything. I want to be able to have a TOC with my newsletter but even if I create it in word processor pages and then try to add layout to later pages, it won't identify any text in the layout pages. Can you help?

    Christine,
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
    I think you've encountered one of the interesting "features" of Pages. In building a TOC, it will only recognize text that's on the text layer -- which means you have to have a word processing document, and not a page layout document. Page layout docs don't have a text layer, which is why you've been putting your text in a text box, which the TOC won't find. Odd, eh?

  • How do I update the TOC, after setting page numbers?

    I have set page numbers to run from Chapter 1. Actually on Page 9. but the TOC shows Chapter 1 starting at Page 7, which is not correct anyway.
    How do I cause the TOC to update? so the Chapter/Page numbers align ok.

    You need to say which version you are taking about, they behave differenetly.

  • Create TOC on active page

    Hello Scripters,
    I am trying to create my toc on the fifth page of my document.
    At the moment the script is running I am adding the fifth page and scripting like this:
    function toc() {
        var myTOCStyle = myDocument.tocStyles.itemByName("TOC_normal");
        var myTocPage = myDocument.pages.add(LocationOptions.AT_END);
        var myBounds = myGetBounds(myDocument, myTocPage);
        var myX1 = myBounds[1];
        var myY1 = myBounds[0];
        var myStory = myDocument.createTOC(myTOCStyle, true, undefined, [myX1, myY1]);
    the script creates the toc on page 4 with bounds of page 5 (right page).
    doesn't the script always creates the toc at the active page? this should be page 5, as it was just added?
    I do not want to move the toc-frame after creating it, I want the script to place the toc on the correct page, what's wrong with my code?
    Thanks a lot in advance for any answer,
    franzi_ska

    From this point of view you're right, I have to find a workaround to avoid the problem (but I still want to knwo what's the problem about my script).
    I tried your suggestion:
    var myStory = myDocument.createTOC(myTOCStyle, true, undefined, [myX1, myY1]);
    var myFrame = myStory.textFrames[0];
    myFrame.move(myTocPage);
    Now the problem lies in the 2nd line (Object is undefinied).
    I think var myFrame = myStory[0].textFrames[0]; is right as the toc returns an array of story.
    So the problem still excists...
    In any case: Thank you very much for helping me!

  • Creating a TOC in pages

    Can someone help in creating a Table of Contents (TOC) in Pages? I'm new to the Pages world, and am currently creating a document on the iCloud site with Pages. I can't seem to find a link, button, etc for creating a TOC.

    What on page 62 does not apply to a Blank Template? I understand that you are using the Blank, but what I don't think that you understand is that Blank is a Template.
    Is this what you are choosing?

  • Problem with TOC pages and books

    I'm using RH 8 and generate Webhelp.
    I created a project and had to change some TOC pages and create TOC books instead. I deleted the pages and added books, with the same name. In RH it looks fine but when I generate the TOC displays the page instead of the book. I tried deleting my cache in IE and deleting the page again. Still no help. I rebooted, and even restarted and still got the same thing. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
    Thank you.

    Hi there
    If the page is not actually inside of a Book, the WebHelp generation process will sense that.
    If you want a Book, try right-clicking the page in the TOC editor and choose "Create Book from Page". This should create a book with the page inside it. Of course both will have the same name, so you may need to rename the Book. Or rename the page. Your choice.
    Cheers... Rick
