My Toshiba L30- 101 has no firewire connection

Hi, newbie here. Got Toshiba L30- 101 laptop and it doesnt have a firewire connection/port. I desperately need to transfer video from my Sony camcorder and for this i have to use an i.Link cable/firewire. As stated how do i get around this problem and can you retro actively install a firewire port onto this oldish laptop.
Desperate. Thanks guys

You would need to check the documentation that accompanied the laptop to determine what type of slot it is.  Once you have the correct one for that system you follow the directions which come with the new card.  Usually it's simply a matter of plugging in the card and installing the drivers from the disk that is included with the card.  Always check the directions though as sometimes you need to do things in a specific order.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Has anyone created a 400Mbps firewire connection to a PC?

Has anyone been able to successfully create a 400Mbps firewire connection (as opposed to 100Mbps) between a Mac and a PC? I've been trying to connect my G4 1.5Mhz Powerbook (bought last May) to a HP Pavillion d4100e (AMD dual core processor) running the latest Windows XP Home Edition. The Powerbook's firewire bus says it can go up to 400Mbps. The 6ft firewire cable is supposed to deliver 400Mbps. The PC's card says it handles 400Mbps. It shows 400Mbps when the firewire cable is plugged into the PC, but not into the Powerbook. Yet, the moment the cable is also plugged into the Mac, the rate goes to 100Mbps. I've looked all over the web for an explanation but have come up w/ nothing.

  • Firewire connections message has appeared

Hey, i think my ipod is broken....
Ive had it for like 3 and a half years, ipoid classic, 30 gb... and now, today, this evening in fact the following message has appeared on the screen
'firewire connections are not supported. to transfer songs, connect the usb cable provided. press center to dismiss'
I press center, the screen goes blank and this message returns. The message doesnt go away either, the ipod remains ON with this message. Ive reset it by holding the middle button and menu, ive plugged it in on here.. the message just wont go away, cant do anything on my ipod....
    is it brokefor good

    Maybe, maybe not.
This just started happening to me as well, but in my case, I'm pretty certain it's due to sweat getting into the connector jack. I've got a rubber skin that normally protects my ipod, but I went a bit overboard the other day, and by the time I was done on the treadmill, noticed my ipod was sitting in a little puddle of sweat.
It's dried, but I think some salt is still shorting a few pins, because I still occasionally get the message. (the extra annoying thing is that this causes the ipod to turn on, so if it starts happening overnight, you wake up with a dead battery).
So, try cleaning the connector in your ipod. I think you can do this by putting a little rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and using that to try and wipe it off (though you may have to shave down the q-tip to get it in the connector). Let any alcohol dry before trying to turn on your ipod, and you may be ok.

Don't choose from another Computer, because with the older one in Target mode it really isn't a Computer, just a big Firewire Drive, choose From another Disk...

  • I just used a firewire connection to transfer files from an older MAC to a newer MAC. My newer MAC has lost all that was on it, and all the applications are opening like they have never been used before and asking for Rosetta. Help!!!

I just used a firewire connection to transfer files from a PowerBook G4 to a MacBook Pro. The MacBook Pro has lost all that was on it, and all the applications are opening like they have never been used before and asking for Rosetta. How do I find all my files on the MacBook Pro, or undo what I have done???

IGNORE the last post: he thought you are using Lion or Mountain Lion.
Since you are using Snow Leopard, you need to install Rosetta.  It can be found on your Snow Leopard Install DVD in the Options section.
Once installed all should be well again.
Also, if your computer is connected to the internet when the Dialog Box about PowerPC applications comes up, it MIGHT allow you to download Rosetta from the internet.  There has been some discussion that Apple has discontined internet download of Rosetta into Snow Leopard.
Someone else will have to address your lost files problem.

  • CPU upgrade on Satellite L30-101

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite L30-101. I've upgraded the RAM successfully to 2GB (2x 1GB) but I'm finding it incredibly hard to get information on processor replacements.
The laptop has the latest BIOS on it (3.10-WIN - 19/02/08) but when trying to find information regarding whats in it I'm hitting brick walls. Firstly the site > http://www.toshiba-tro.de/biosinfo/ < doesn't have my laptop on it,
    Product Type: Notebook
    Family: Satellite
    Product Series: Satellite L Series
    Model: ? unknown
    Short Model No: ? unknown
I did hope I could stick an Intel Duo in but with the ATI chipset, I'm pretty sure it wont work but again without knowing whats within BIOS, compatible.. I'm lost. The only processor I can find which may work, same package, FSB, socket is an Intel Core Solo Processor T1350 which kicks out 1.86 GHz, not a massive difference and I'm sure it can't be the only replacement option.
Could someone and staff please help me with getting hold of BIOS info and compatible processors for my laptop. The current Intel Celeron M Processor 410 kicking out 1.46 GHz isn't good enough for Vista (cert on laptop) and basic multi tasking. Its lagging way too much even after a good tune up, ram upgrade, HD upgrade to 7200RPM. I'm in need of a processor upgrade but as mention finding it incredibly hard to obtain information of which would be compatible.
    Sincerely,
    Gourcuff

    Hello
In my opinion your attempt to replace CPU is wrong. Why? Satellite L30 is not designed to offer some fabulous performance and it is designed for everyday usage. Best evidence for this was the price. It was not so expensive.
Can you please tell us why do you want to have new CPU? Do you use some special software?
Back to CPU replacement. As you probably know mobile computers have limited upgrade options and it is related to RAM and HDD upgrade. It is definitely unprovided for CPU upgrade and it is not supported. Specific design, especially cooling system is designed for certain CPU.
Due to all this you will not be able to find any relevant info about CPU replacement.

  • Memory problems on Satellite L30-101

I have a toshiba satellite l30-101 laptop and wanted to upgrade RAM, so i bought 2x 1GB sticks to put in it.
Now i couldnt find any 533mhz ones so i bought 2 667mhz after a spoke to a technical guy who said if i got 2 of same speed it would work fine.
Only it doesnt at all i can put one stick in and it runs fine with the 533mhz.
One i have in if i try and put both new sticks in it comes up with memory errors and I get the bsod which restarts my comp and would not allow me to run my games or other programs.
Is there anyway to make it so I can have both of the new sticks in as i really need the ram and dont want to buy diff ones.
I mean if I can get one to work other one should surely work right ?
please help im going mad trying to fix the damn thing

    Hi
I think the memory speed has nothing to do with the BSOD!
In my opinion the BSOD appears due to the memory module malfunction!
Furthermore the L30-101 supports only the 533 Mhz FSB. In this case you will be not able to run the 667Mhz memory modules with full speed.
The modules will run only at 533Mhz!!!
So in my opinion you should replace the faulty module with a one which works fine!
    Best regards

  • What must I do to move my iTunes library to a Firewire-connected HD?

I have added an external hard drive (WD 2TB) using the existing FireWire connection to my Mac PowerBook 17" Titanium. The internal hard drive is quite small (120GB) so I want to move my existing iTunes library (and all associated files) to this new external HD - along with all necessary permissions/shares. Because the Mac that I have is fairly old (Titanium 17", pre-Intel, Motorola Power PC, 1.67 GHz PowerPC G4, 1.5 GB DDR SDRAM, running Mac OS X 10.5.8, and iTunes 10.6.3 (25)), I can't seem to find the specific how-to to do this. Suggestions? Answers can be specific and detailed (I prefer them that way).
    Thanks,
    Carol

I am not entirely sure you need to be concerned about permissions for this (i could be wrong).  You will want to go your music folder and find "iTunes" or "Itunes media" there should be a folder in your music folder labled something similar.  Copy and paste that to your firewire drive.  Then I would suggest selecting all the media in your itunes library and removing it from the library, NOT DELETING it (if it prompts to you move to trash don't select that option).
You will then need to go your itunes preferences and select the folder you just moved to your external drive as your itunes folder.  Should be under advanced in preferences select change itunes media folder location.  If this doesn't populate your media back into your itunes library then go to file-add to library.  Add the folder from your firewire drive and the rest should happen automatically.
The reason I have suggested removing and then re-adding your media is to avoid duplicates from popping up.  Also to prevent you from having to tell itunes where each file has moved to.  This can be quite tedious for tons of music and movies and etc.

  • I have an ipod nano 4th generation.  I let my grandson, who has a shuffle, connect his shuffle to my computer and now my itunes recognizes his shuffle and not my nano.  How can I get rid of his shuffle and re-add my nano

have an ipod nano 4th generation.  I let my grandson, who has a shuffle, connect his shuffle to my computer and now my itunes recognizes his shuffle and not my nano.  How can I get rid of his shuffle and re-add my nano?

    Hi lundjj,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You may find the troubleshooting steps in this article helpful if your iPod nano does not appear in iTunes:
    iPod not appearing in iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3716
This information can also help if you are using multiple devices with a computer:
iPod for Windows: Connecting multiple iPod devices to iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3622
Although FireWire and USB connections will allow multiple iPod devices to be connected to the computer at the same time, iTunes for Windows works best with only one iPod connected at a time. If you plan to connect multiple iPod devices to the same computer, eject any iPod devices that you are not using from iTunes.
    All the best,
    Jeremy

  • Could a recent firefox update affect my firewire connection to the computer

My computer is really a home recording studio. Yesterday firefox downloaded a new update and since then the firewire connection from the mixing desk to the computer has stopped working. Could firefox somehow be responsible for blocking this?

In response to your question, no a firewire cable is not possible to be blocked by a web browser as firewire's run on there own. e.g stand alone

  • Firewire Connection Question (HEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPP!!!)

OK. So I am relatively new to the mac world. I have a question regarding firewire connection. So I had an imac prior to my new macbook. I wanted to transfer my stuff over through firewire but there's a problem. The screen on my Imac stopped working. It still powers up and everything, but no screen. Could someone tell me is there a way to get the hard drive of my Imac up on my macbook screen WITHOUT using the Imac screen? If no, what could/should I do? HEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPP!!!
    Thanks guys!
    James, extreme newbie.

    @discounteggroll...
I have found this to be the solution to connecting macs via firewire... but I have yet to see my imac show up as a hard drive on the macbook pro I am trying to send large video files to.
I have plugged, unplugged and restarted everything several times. Unplugged all other devices outside of my keyboard. Even tried making the macbook pro the 'hard drive' but nothing is working. I am using a 400 to 800 firewire cable. On the macbook I have snow leopard, and the iMac has Tiger. I don't know if the OS has to be the same or not.
I am super frustrated because I don't have the $$ to run out and get another hard drive and it seems like your solution should just work.
Any ideas on how to fix??
    Thanks in advance!!

  • Booting to read a firewire connected computer

How to boot a computer to read firewire connected second computer. Both Mac minis

If you just want to be able to read files off the target computer's hard drive, you boot your host computer normally, and on the target computer, attach a keyboard and reboot with the T key held down.
If you want to be able to boot the host computer from the target's hard drive, again boot the target Mac with the T key held down, and reboot the host computer with the Option key held down. You'll be able to choose the firewire-attached drive from the boot panel. This will work provided that the target computer has an OS that the host can boot.

  • Ejecting a firewire connected HD

I'm currently on my new Macbook Pro and I connected my very old iMac with a 400 to 800 firewire cord. Eventually i figured out how to transfer all my music so that my itunes on this Pro now has my 3000 some songs. I quit itunes and then attempted to eject the old computer. Every time i try it says that "Macintosh HD is in use and can not be ejected. Try quitting applications and trying again." I quit every application and it still won't let me eject it. I don't really want to just unplug the firewire cord. Could it be that because the old computer still has the firewire logo bouncing around on it that it wont let it eject? Does anyone know what's going wrong?

Check that Spotlight is not trying to index it.

  • "Firewire connections..." Won't stop showing that message.

    My Ipod keeps saying:
"FireWire connections are not supported. To transfer songs, connect to the USB cable provided. Press Center to dismiss."
when i press the center button it just flashes the message again and it won't go away. my ipod is fully updated, i have tried restoring it several times and it keeps saying this message. Well, first a couple days ago it would not turn off, so I figured it needed to be updated. And now this..
If anyone has any help i would greatly appreciate it!

You may be using a firewire from a previous ipod. The 5th generation ipod will not support firwire. It will only be good for charging.
