  • Toshiba Satellite A215-S5837 CPU Compatibility

    Hey Guys,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A215-S5837 and I was wondering if the Turion™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile CPU could be upgraded to the Turion™ II Dual-Core Mobile CPU. Anything helps! It doesn't need a CPU but I figured if I could upgrade it then I would.
    Thanks,
    Dane Austin

Honestly, I would just suggest upgrading from a standard HDD to an SSD.  I have messed around with upgrading CPU's on A215's, and I was never happy with the results.  I am down to just 1 fully functional A215 in my collection now, which I have kept as my Vista system.  It has the TL-56 1.8Ghz CPU, 2GB RAM, and a 64GB ADATA SATA II SSD.  For an A215, It's fast, but also very reliable.
If I get a chance, I may try upgrading the CPU again... I have a stack of spare QL CPU's sitting around collecting dust.  But for now, the SSD gives the system a decent performance boost, with a LOT less work.

  • Toshiba satellite a215-s4757 internal mic not working

So up until a couple weeks ago, my internal mike on my computer was working fine. Then the other day when I tried to use skype it would not work. When I go into sound->recording devices it says that the "front mic" is not plugged in. When I click on it thought it says it is working properly. I tried to download and install the driver from toshiba and it said that it installed correctly but this did not fix my problem. I read here that some other people have been downloading a new BIOS and that that helped? would that be able to help my computer? i have windows vista home premium 32 bit i believe. any help would be appreciated

Let's just try a proper system reset and see if this helps bring your mic back.  Power off your system, unplug everything including the AC, remove the battery, press and hold down the power on button for 30 seconds, replace battery and AC, power on, when you see the Toshiba logo press the 'F2' key to enter BIOS Setup, in setup press 'F9' to load setup defaults, press 'F10' to save and exit, boot into Windows, and test your mic again.
Please let us know if this helps. Good luck.

  • Blue screen of death on Toshiba Satellite A215-S742 System Unit

i got the blue screen of death on my laptop. whenever i turn on my laptop, it loads up until the login page. then the blue screen of death appears and my laptop restarts and repeats. i have to do a hard shutdown. i can go into safe mode but i can do a system recovery (there are no recovery dates). even when i go into recovery mode, the blue screen of death appears after about 30min to an hour. i've tried updating the bios but it didn't work. i also tried using bootable cds with rescue programs but the cds dont boot (maybe im booting them the wrong way). what other ways are there to try to fix my laptop. please help!!!!!

    Satellite A215-S7422
We need to know the Stop code on the blue screen. If there is a file name mentioned, we want that too.
You can prevent the rapid disappearance of the blue screen during a normal boot by choosing this at the F8 Startup menu.

  • Are there any other rebooting options for the Toshiba, Satellite A215-S7425 without discs?

I can't find any of the reformatting discs my laptop came with. I was wondering if there are other possible ways to wipe everything off my laptop without performing a manual reboot. I.e. On start-up menu pressing F10 or so?
    Please help!

Do you just want to reformat the hard drive or do you want to install and OS (as in recover the system to it's factory out of box state)?  If all you want to do is reformat the hard drive you can use any number of self booting tools that you can download.  All formatting does is prepare the hard drive for use by placing magnetic markers on the drive surface to define the sectors in which data is stored in preperation to installing an operating system.
If you want to actually install an OS hold down the 0 (zero) key when powering up the system.  If it has a hard drive based recovery system this will invoke it.  If it doesn't then you'll either need to find your disks, contact Toshiba and order replacement disks as per this post, purchase a new Windows disk to install Windows, or download a free Linux disk and use that.
Plus there is no way to do this without doing a reboot of the system.  It's physically impossible.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Need little Windows XP help for Satellite A215-S5849

    Hi,
I have a notebook Toshiba Satellite A215-S5849 which came with Windows Vista home premium.
Some time ago, I installed Windows XP SP3 and I also installed some drivers which i found here:
[Page from where I downloaded drivers, click|http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp]
I had to select model A210 coz there is no Satellite A215 available (but its probably simmilar, coz on my included Vista CD with drivers it also says its for A210/A215)
Main problem is... is there any simple way to get all XP drivers for A215... [Thats an other page, where I searched drivers for exactly my notebook and WIN XP, its many for vista. Select to filter for XP... not a lot of drivers for me id say, click |http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_modItemList.jsp?moid=1998646&rpn=PSAFGU&ct=D L&BV_SessionID=@@@@1886836112.1220191695@@@@&BV_En gineID=cccfadefdejeidmcgfkceghdgngdgnn.0 ]
I have this little problems id like to solve:
    1) Fn F5 doesnt work... I have 2 monitors and I cant use Fn F5 hotkey... I downloaded the driver... and other Fn keys work... but not F5... I've searched the forum and web and found something that I should have a "display devices change utility" installed, but this is only available for older notebooks (Ive searched, but i found only old driver for this). How do I make Fn F5 work in Win XP on A215?
    2) Also in my Device manager I have three "Base System Device" undentified as "Other devices". Is this ok... or do i need some drivers or something?
    3) And I have a question about this utility: [ link here, click|http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_dtlViewDL.jsp?soid=1903653&moid=1998646&rpn= PSAFGU&BV_SessionID=@@@@0768822790.1220188011@@@@& BV_EngineID=cccfadefdejeidmcgfkceghdgngdgnn.0&ct=D L&all_docs=false]
Would this install all the available drivers for the notebook? If not, what does it do, maybe update?
    4) And also... the multimedia keys... is it possible to select play/pause, stop, next, prev buttons for other program than windows media player. Id like to run those keys on winamp, ive downloaded a plugin for winamp, and it did worked on Vista, but not on XP... in Toshiba controls utility I can only sellect programs to start with Internet button and CD/DVD button. Ive read its not possible, but it worked when I installed the plugin on Vista.
Thank you for reading this and help.
Just in case I added drivers that I installed below. Dont really need to read this I think, but i add...
    Drives that i installed:
    Hotkey Utility, Toshiba
    Common Module, Toshiba
    Controls, Toshiba
    Display Driver, ATI
    Power Saver, Toshiba
    Sound Driver, Realtek Semiconductor Corporation
    SD Utilities
    Wireless Lan Client Manager, Atheros
    Touch Pad Driver, Synaptics
    Processor driver, AMD
    atheros wlan driver
    Camera Software, Chicony
The drivers available were pretty straightforward , coz there is only one available for LAN, audio, Hotkeys etc. So I had not much choice. I also checked for which hardware they were made and from wihich manifacturer they are (I found the right ones... for example, realtek drivers for my realtek audio device...)

    > I had to select model A210 coz there is no Satellite A215 available (but its probably similar, coz on my included Vista CD with drivers it also says its for A210/A215)
The A215 is a US notebook series and you usually you should use the Toshiba US driver page in order to get all compatible XP drivers.
There is no guarantee that the Toshiba XP drivers from the Toshiba European driver page would work correctly on the Toshiba US notebook.
    Regarding the point;
    1) You are right. The display device change utility controls the FN+F5 key combination and also the Hotkey Utility make the FN+F5 combination working.
This tool is available for some A210 series like the PSAFGE series. But it does not work on all A210/A215 series.
    2) This could be a card reader. Check if its already installed. But note; after the XP installation you will still have yellow exclamation marks in device manager because some hardware will be only supported by Windows Vista. Therefore there is no Windows XP driver.
    3) In my opinion the Toshiba Software Upgrades for Windows Vista/XP reminds about some new available software updates which were released on the Toshiba page US page.
    4) I have the same issue and I think there is no way to change this in XP.
The Toshiba controls Utility for XP is simply different as the version for Vista and in my eyes there is nothing to do.
    Regards

  • Battery charges intermittently or not at all (Satellite A215-54757)

Hello all, I am having an issue with my 8-year-old Toshiba Satellite A215-S4757. I lurked around many different forums seeking a solution but could not find anything that worked. My battery/power manager says "plugged in, not charging" and will not gain charge. Currently my battery is at 26%. It was at 22% about an hour ago and has been charging intermittently for about 3-10 seconds at a time, with very long breaks in between. The most frequent times it charges for a few seconds is when I take the battery out and put it back in with the computer running. I am wondering why it is not charging? Is my battery too old? Should I replace it? Or should I replace my AC adapter? Here is what I have tried so far:- Checked/wiggled AC adapter cords- Taking battery out and putting it back in (power off)- Taking battery out and putting it back in (power on)^^^for that one, my computer did not shut down, which means my AC adapter is working to some degree yes?- Taking battery out (power on), shut down computer, boot up, put battery back in- Uninstalled ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, then scanned for hardware changes None of the above worked. As a further note, the battery is old but retains its charge to some degree. I unplugged my AC adapter and my laptop ran off of the battery at an expected rate (though I should probably get a new battery anyway... it was draining somewhat fast compared to 8 years ago). Things I have not tried:- Updating BIOS (Currently I'm not in a location where I can download the update)- Replace battery with a different one- Replace AC adapter with a different one Laptop runs OK when it is plugged in (aside from becoming very hot at times) but trying to figure out how I can get this darn battery charged for plane flights. Thoughts/opinions?

Apologies for double post but figured I should add one thing: I have not tried a hard reset, mainly because I do not want to lose my data. But I'm willing to consider any suggestions. If you think I should invest in a new machine entirely, I wouldn't disagree with the idea

  • Toshiba website doesn't recognize my serial number of Satellite A215-S7428

Odd issue. Toshiba website doesn't recognize my serial number. Has anyone encounted that? I assume alpha characters are upper case. Serial number is 9 characters long with alpha characters at either end of string.
    Bizarre.
Has anyone had problems registering their laptops?

    Andrej is right.
The Satellite A215-S7428 seems to be designed for the US market and if you need any information, drivers, tools or want to register the warranty then you should use the Toshiba US website!!!!

  • ITunes will not start on my Toshiba Satellite Computer

I have installed Itunes 10.2.2 to my new Toshiba Satellite computer and when I open it I get an error message that says, "QuickTime was not found. QuickTime is required to run ITunes. Please uninstall Itunes and reinstall. I've done this about 6 times and keep getting same message. HELP PLEASE!!!

This thread is behaving very strangely!
Anyway I am around on and off today.
    First can you confirm that:
    \\fumc40\winacs\ASCNET
is the the location that you cannot reach. I am guessing that refers to network drive at work, is that so?
Assuming that we need to move \\fumc40\winacs\ASCNET to the end of path, after quicktime.
Here are some instructions to get started. I will only take you up to the point where you can do the editing, don't try and change anything yet. I want to be sure it in necessary and that you can find the right place to do it.
You need to be in an Administrator account or be ready to enter an admin password when asked
    First create a restore point:
You only need to do this before you do the actual editing, not this trial run.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Create-a-restore-point
Right Click on Computer and select Properties
    Select Advanced System Settings>>Advanced tab
    Click on Environment Variables
Find Path in the lower box headed System Variables
    Select Path then press Edit...
An Edit box will open allowing you to edit Path.
This is as far as I want you to at this stage, don't try and edit, just cancel. I just want know you can get here.

  • Toshiba Satellite p75-A7200 stuck on toshiba logo after bios change

My Toshiba Satellite p75-A7200 is stuck on toshiba logo after bios change.
entered bios fine changes from UEFI to CSM boot and now i cannot enter bios or boot past toshiba logo.
Ive tried F2 tapping and holding while powering up the laptop(tried every Fkey,DEL,ESC, with and without FN key)
    cannot re-enter bios.
Also i tried to run the bios update cd created multiple  1.50 1.40 even 1.00, it doesnt seem to read any media.
i tried holding C, FN+C and f and just about every key on the keyboard to get something to work. i had dvd as top of boot priority for a while now so i shouldnt have to try f12 or holding C before boot but i tried . it doesnt seem to read any media
i tried windows 8 install cd, Ubuntu, centos, nothing goes past toshiba logo and no errors, i dont get the non bootable device error so its seems to not be reading the dvd. (dvd does spin and make read noises) im trying to find my usb floppy drive to try a floppy version but it acts like its not reading any media.
I also pulled the HDD and all usb devices to make the dvd the only media available and with the HDD out it spins then toshiba logo then black screen with solid white  horizontal curser on top left of screen.(only happens when hdd out)
is there some type of key combination that will force a bios update or a crisis recovery mode for bios.
I also Pulled the battery for 2 solid days(battery, cmos battery, and power supply and held power button for about 10 mins while watching tx to make sure the thing was drained before the 2 day sit with no power at all.
this happened the second i changed from UEFI to CSM boot so its not a motherboard problem or anything like that because all was well before this setting change.
I already pulled the HDD and backed it up to another drive and swapped it to elimiate that.
any ideas on a secret key combo to force a bios read from dvd or usb or anythng.
or another combo that im just missing to enter bios after CSM boot.
    UPDATE
to do a crisis recovery on this laptop
1 get a usb stick and format it in fat or fat32
2 download "7zip" and install it if you dont have it.
3 download bios from toshiba website.
4 run the installer for bios but dont choose and option just close it we just want to extract the files to the location normally  c:\splnvxxx where xxx is the version number like 150
5 goto the installed locaion "c:\splnv150" or whatever number.
    6. find file os2014273a_150 or something similar. it will be an application, it will end in version number _150, and it will also have a disc image file of the same name. but we want the app.
    7. right click on it and you should have an option 7zip then extract
once extracted there is a folder now archesxxxxxx_bios_v150_win
8 copy the bios file located in archesxxxxxblahblah/X64/BIOS.fd , BIOS.fd is the bios and just copy that to a BLANK usb thumb drive that was formatted with fat or fat32.
    9. put usb into your satellite and unplug the power from it.
10 holding FN + ESC key together plug the power back in and press power button.
    11. release keys FN and ESC if all is right it will have the power button and led on from blink abut every 1 second while it searches for the bios. once its done it will reboot and you should be good to go.
if it keeps cycling with the power button then the bios is named wrong or something is not right with the usb. try reformatting it again and make sure that the bios file is the ONLY thing on the drive.

Ok a little research and digging into the bios exe downloaded from toshiba shows this has INSYDE BIOS witch should have a recovery process wich i prepared a usb stick with just the bios.fd on it found some post around toshiba forums with different models using win +B or Fn + F but neither of these worked for me to force bios update
anyone with this model know the key combo to force recovery

  • How do I install Ubuntu on a Toshiba Satellite L670D-102

    Hello
I have been trying to load Ubuntu 10.10 (tried both AMD64 and i386 versions of Desktop Edition) onto a Satellite L670D-102 using a Live CD. The CD spins for a while, there is some activity on the hard drive and then I get a flashing white cursor (a hyphen) on a black screen. I left it all night and it remained the same. I tried with a 'live' usb and again, no boot. The cds and usb work in other machines running both amd and intel cpus.
The sort of questions that spring to mind are:-
Is there some security or other setting within the cmos that prevents anything other than Windows being loaded?
Are Toshiba simply anti- Linux and I need a new machine?
Do I need a special bios to run Ubuntu?
Any help in resolving the issue would be welcome.

    Hi
I use a Toshiba Satellite L655. It came with a Win7. The first thing I did after buying it was to wipe out Win7 and install ubuntu 10.10 on the entire hard disk (not a dual boot or Wubi install). Now I want to try out ubuntu 11.04 beta from a live usb and I am trying to change the boot order. The laptop doesn't boot from the usb drive. I am unable to enter the BIOS. I have tried pressing ESC, F2 etc while switching on the laptop. So far, I have not been able to access the BIOS setup.
I have tried googling and I read about Toshiba's "legacy-free" laptops. But am not sure if mine is such a one. Now, I don't have Win at all in my laptop. I have only ubuntu 10.10. I need to access the BIOS setup and change the boot order so that my laptop boots from the USB drive. How do I do this?
    Any guidance would be welcome.

  • Invalid Key after 'out-of-box' recovery. (Satellite A215)

I did a out-of-box recovery with the recovery disc's. It goes through the full process but when you click on 'admin' to start the computer, it asks for a product key. I've entered the on off the computer, but say's invalid. Any ideas why this is happening. I've redone the recovery three times with all the same outcome.

    Satellite A215-S7428 (PSAFGU-02E002)
In the Device Manager, these items are listed with a yellow question mark. Base System Devices (x3) Ethernet Controller PCI Device RTL8187B_WLAN_Adapter SM Bus Controller Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
No surprise there. You need to install the correct drivers and utilities for Windows XP.
The site for that model does not have them all (the chipset and display software, in particular). Best to get those for the European models in the same part number family (PSAFGx).
Go to the European download site and select Satellite A210 with Short Model No. PSAFGE. I don't see anything there you wouldn't want to install.
But the order of installation matters. It's important to install the AMD Processor driver and the ATI display driver prior to any other driver. Install the Common Module before any other Toshiba utilities.
