I see that when you connected your mouse your touchpad quit working.  Quite often when you connect a mouse it will disable the touchpad to avoid conflicting inputs.
If you disconnect your mouse does your touchpad work again?
If disconnecting the wireless mouse has not helped, try double tapping the upper left corner of the touchpad as on many models this will enable/disable the TouchPad.  Using and Configuring the TouchPad (Windows 7 and Vista)
Have you ran the HP Support Assistant to aid with HP updates and resolving issues?

  • Partially [SOLVED] SD reader and touchpad won't work in AAO D260

Hi people, I recently bought my new netbook with the shiny W7. Funny because the first thing I did is plugin in my Arch pen drive and wipe the entire HDD. I installed Arch easily and I could make work almost all of the hardware except the SD card reader and the touchpad.
Actually, the touchpad does work but the synaptic features don't (two-finger scrolling, middle-click emulation, etc.). I've followed the instructions from the wiki but for some reason, it won't work.
The SD card reader seems to be up, but when I insert a card in it, dmesg shows me this:
usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3
hub 1-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 5
And there is no new block (sd*) apart from sda which is my HDD.
If you want to know, this is the output of lspci:

Currently I'm trying to figure out why hibernate and suspend aren't working.  I'll follow your thread maybe someone has a clue.

  • Uploaded 1.2, now Ipod is frozen and touchpad won't work...

OK! So, my ipod was working fine this morning, perfectly! Now, after i donwloaded the new 1.2, it seems to have frozen, or something. I tried to reset it, and it resets fine, then brings me back to the start up menu but the touchpad doesn't work. I can't scroll, i can't select. I tried to restore it, and I have the same problem. When i connect it to Itunes, the computer recongnizes it, but then it freezes on the do not disconnnect sign. I don't know what is wrong, and I am getting kinda ****** off. Please if anyone can tell me what is wrong I would really appreciate it. I just can't believe that the touchpad would just break like that. Any advice?
    gateway   Windows XP

I just attempted this step to fix my "iPod on Ice" problem and it actually worked like a charm. I have pasted the procedure below...maybe it'll help others!
*To reset an iPod with a Click Wheel, including:
Fifth Generation iPod (also known as iPod with video)
    iPod nano
iPod with color display (iPod photo)
    iPod (Click Wheel)
    iPod mini
    iPod mini (Second Generation)
Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

  • Physical buttons on E440 touchpad won't work after coffee spill: capacitive layer works fine

Hi, can you help me with my stupid problem?
    I have 2 questions:
    1) Is there a way to enable trackpoint to work with the capacitive layer? I.e. to be able to use it without physically pushing the pad down. Now, as soon as I touch the trackponit, it disables light clicks (touches) of the touchpad, I guess to prevent unintended palm clicks
    2) Is there anything I can do to make the buttons work again? (See the story below.) I have cleaned it all even inside, but there were almost no stains at all anyway, none on chips or cables. And it partially worked just this morning.
I guess I could soak it in water, then ethanol, and finally dig into rice grains for a week or two as a last resort...but I hope for a more electronics-friendly solution.
    Story:
I spilled my coffee into the keyboard and touchpad, and even though almost no water got onto the motherboard (a few drops), I cut off the power supply in less than 10 seconds, and I cleaned it all thoroughly (even managed to get inside the touchpad itself and assemble it all back...what a pain), it works weird.
At first, it registered about 1/10 or 1/20 of physical button presses (depressions of the pad). So technically it somewhat worked. The capacitive (touch) layer worked fine including multitouch. Then I tried to just click on it repeatedly for about 100 times rapidly, and it started to miraculously work 100% fine...for about 30 minutes, then it returned to the 1/20 state again. But as soon as it started to work fine, the multitouch recognition died, so it wouldn't scroll etc. And after returning to the bad state again, multitouch was still dead. Then I tried to reinstall the drivers: multitouch has started to work (so scrolling and gestures are OK now). But the physical buttons appear to be absolutely dead at this moment, it won't register any click/depression at all. The capacitive layer works fine though, so I can still use it as a normal touchpad without physical keys.
But this renders trackpoint unusable as it requires physical depressions of the touchpad to register clicks.
    Thank you very much!

    hi, calleasto
sorry to hear about this mishappen. I recognize it, since it happened to me a few years ago, also my daughter pooring thee (not coffee - but the difference is marginal - ) into an external keyboard. I took it apart and cleaned and dried it very carefully, but never got it working again. This was an external keyboard.
a similar failure occurred to other people with they laptop keyboards (and to me, without "using" any liquid). I presume - without knowing really the interiors of the laptop keyboards - that (1) they are read out in a kind of matrix (sensitive bars arranged in rows and (almost) columns corresponding to keys), which needs two layers of contact strips; and that (2) the layers are separated by plastic sheets.
Your diagnostics seems to imply that
    1) there are still bad contacts (might be liquid where it shouldn't be);
    2) the contact point has shifted ;
The latter could perhaps be due to liquid shifting the pressure away from the point where it should be applied.
    What i would do:
Give the keyboard much time for drying - perhaps by removing the keys again. But there is always the chance that the temperature of the coffee, and the residues are causing troubles and might cause some keys not to function properly.
I think (i am not sure !!) you have a "unibody": i think it is "unique " in the sense that it has no screws (except at the bottom) - and no Firewire outlet. I have never opened my MB, but the only way i see for opening it is from the bottom (there are 4 screws at mine) - but i do not know whether it is advisable to open it. I would check via Phone with Apple before doing anything myself.
    Hope this helps.

  • Laptop touchpad won't work

I bought this laptop today. It worked fine for the first hour then the touchpad stopped working completely.
I have tried reinstalling drivers, doing hard resets and system restores. Nothing works at all and still the mousepad doesn't work. I had hoped to sort it but if not I shall just return the laptop for an exchange.
    Any ideas?

    Hi there
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
Since the touchpad worked for an hour, it suggests that the driver and hardware should be good. You mentioned that you did an system restore,  but did you try a system recovery to the factory defaults. If that works, then it would suggest the problem is related to one of the updates or other software that was installed after the first hour. Give it a try, and let me know.

Also take a look through this page. It is possible that maybe the touchpad was accidentally disabled somehow during the installation process.

  • After upgrading to Yosemite, it now takes roughly 3 minutes for my computer to boot up, my sign in is now on my lap top screen and not my aux. screen as it has been and my touchpad won't work until sometime after booting up.

Slow boot, wrong screen & touchpad not connection correctly

So are they going to do anything with all of this or just act like Microsoft & hope it'll get better by its-self? I'm pretty disappointed and wish I'd stayed with Mavericks. Is there anyway to go back?

  • Lenovo g50-70 keyboard and touchpad won't work at the same time

My Lenovo g50-70 will not allow me to use my keyboard the touchpad at the same time. If' i'm moving the mouse pointer and then try to type something at the same time the pointer will stop moving until i stop typing.  I've searched the dicussion boards for a solution to this problem and I have found posts that instruct me to minimize the palm tracking portion of the driver. I now have the palm tracking set to the minimum value but it has not made a difference to my problem. does anyone have another solution?

    Hi Dumptruck,
    Welcome to the Forums
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with keyboard and touchpad in your Lenovo G50-70 laptop.
Try to uninstall the touchpad driver and restart the system and reinstall the driver and check for the issue.

  • My macbook mouse/touchpad has stopped working. After 5 minutes ,the mouse won't click and I have to shut down. What's wrong?

I have a white macbook, about 4 years old. Every time I use it, after five minutes, the mouse and touchpad stop working. You can still hear the click but it doesn't actually click anything on the screen, effectively freezing the computer. I have to just shut it down. What can i do about this?!? Thanks

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Touchpad scroller won't work in Windows 7

    Hey,
I just upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7. After upgrading, the vertical scroller on the touchpad doesn't work. Apparently a lot of people have solved this problem by using Alps or Synaptics drivers for Vista, but it didn't work for me.
    Any ideas? =)

I will look around. Go buy a mouse!

  • 2nd Monitor won't work

I bought a Pavillion p6210f last week with Win7 loaded to replace my Dell/Vista.  I was using two monitors with a VGA port and DVI port on the old PC, so I tried plugging in the same on my new HP and the DVI would not fit.  In examining the pins I found that, althought the Manual said DVI, but the plug has the pin/bar arrangement of a DVI-D.   So, I bought a VGAto DVI-D adapter and everything plugged in snuggly.  All pins and bar appear a match.
But, it won't work.  This is what is showing
NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller   HP RC Mirror Driver [Display adapter]
    NVIDIA GeForce 9100 [Display adapter]
    Acer P241W [Monitor] (24.0"vis, s/n LB4040014320, March 2008)the one working monitor....
After hours with the 800 support and hours of reversing the two Acer monitors, the DVI-D port is simply dead.  Anything plugged in to the VGA works fine, anything and any combination plugged into the DVI-D and cable switching etc. the 2nd monitor  is not even recoginized.  The NVIDIA control panel doesn't recognize it. The amber power light just stays that way and nothing ever flashes on the 2nd screen.  That is, it is the same as not plugging in at all.
I was less than pleased when 800 tech and supervisor suggested I take it to a repair center.  A week old?  I have put way too much setup and data transfer into the new HP to go back to the retailer for a replacement.
Techs didn't know, but could there be a DVI-X with the same pins that also fits

Eldric, did you update to the latest video driver from nVidia?  It sounds to me like a driver problem.  Update and let us know if that solves your problem.

  • Laptop Mouse touchpad doesn't work with Firefox 4

Previously in Firefox 3, I could use the touchpad on my laptop to middle click, and scroll. Now it won't work with Firefox 4. When I try to use the scroll feature it registers the mouse as scrolling, but the page doesn't move at all in Firefox. When I try to open a link in a new tab using middle click it shows the auto scroll but even then the orientation is wrong as well. When trying to close a tab using the middle click it shows the same left to right auto scroll instead. It works fine with a normal mouse, but with a touchpad it doesn't work at all. I have also tried using drivers to fix the problem, but that was not the issue.

well, if you stick to firefox 4, then i'd say, well, babylon in my memories, it offers a online prompt method of translation, supporting tens of languages, similar to google translate webpages, the url is http://translation.babylon.com/ you can keep firefox 3.x and 4.0 in the same time in your windows. firefox 3.x to 4.0 update is not compulsory, so use the one you feel good with.

  • After a few minutes, the page down won't work without clicking the mouse pointer on the page I am reading to activate page down again. Is there a way to go back to page down working every time without having to click the page first?

    Question
After a few minutes, the page down won't work without clicking the mouse pointer on the page I am reading to activate page down again. Is there a way to go back to page down working every time without having to click the page first?

Today, two other users reported issues with the back-forward history list dropping down if they hovered the mouse pointer over the back or forward button -- without clicking -- and then moved the pointer downwards. One user was on a touchpad, I don't know about the other user. Are you experiencing anything like that?

I have installed all the latest drivers via HP support's website and the trackpad's scrolling won't work on my dv4-1125nr when in Windows 7. It works fine in Vista, so I'm wondering if there is a way to get it working properly in Win 7. Also the software update manager is not available for download under my model number. If that was available, perhaps that would find a necessary download and install accordingly. Any help is greatly appreciated as this is a major annoyance!! Thanks!

Hi Daniel, thanks for your post, recently I also upgraded my laptop(dv4-1125nr) from vista to Win 7 ultimate, after then my touchpad(touch keys just above the keyboard, it contain mute, vol. up or down, wireless active or inactive) is not able to work.
You informed that we need uninstall and then install Synaptics touchpad for Win7 by HP here
I would like to know which driver i need to uninstall and then install above one and even i attached my laptop contral panel screen shot for your reference. your help is highly appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • HP LaserJet Pro C1415fn color MFP - fax won't work

I have a LaserJet Pro CM1415fn color MFP on a Windows 7 64-bit laptop. I've been using the printer for two years now.
At the moment the fax function only works if I use it manually (i.e. if I place a sheet of paper on the scanner, select the "Fax" button on the printer touch pad and dial the number). However, if I want to send a fax via the PC interface, it won't work.
For example, if I open a PDF, click on "Print" and select "HP LaserJet Professional CM 1410 Series Fax", nothing happens -- no window/interface will open. If I select "HP Send Fax" or "HP Fax Setup Wizard" from the program menu, nothing happens.
I've always been sending faxes this way and I just don't know what happened... Can anyone please help?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi @Clabee ,
I see that you can't fax from the PC anymore. I can help you with this.
If this just recently happened, I would do a System Restore back to when everything was working properly.
    System Restore for Windows 7.
If you would prefer not to do the System Restore, uninstall and reinstall the printer software. It might become corrupted.
Here are the steps to run the uninstall from the computer or the CD.
    To uninstall from program files:
Touch the Windows key and the E key to access the computer window.
    Select the C drive.
Select program files or program files x86.
Open the HP and printer name folder.
    Select uninstall.
Uninstall the software from the CD:
Touch the Windows key and the E key to access the computer window. Right click on the CD for the printer, left click open in a new window, double click on uninstall.
Disable all the start up programs and temporarily turn off the Antivirus Software. How to use MSCONFIG .
Click on the start up tab and click disable all.
Download, save and install the latest drivers.
HP LaserJet Pro CM1415fnw Color Multifunction Printer Drivers.
Test the printer and try sending a fax again from the PC.
Then you will need to go back in and enable the start up programs and turn the Antivirus Software back on again.
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a wonderful day!
    Thank You.

I've just updated my iPhone to the new iPhone OS and now it won't work and iTunes won't recognise that it's there.  I've uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled twice and it's not working.  Please help.

I have not had wifi since November when I upgraded to the newest IOS version.  I called the Apple help line and they told me some things to do and I tried them all and they worked for a few hours and then wifi shut off again.  I kept doing what they told me and it worked for a couple more days and then I could never turn it on again.  My blue tooth doesn't work either.  I had to actually increase my data usage with AT&T becuase of this.  When I did that in December I went to the Apple store and was told that it is a hardware issue and since my phone is out of warranty I would have to pay for a new phone because they could not fix the issue.  My upgrade isn't up until June 2014 so not only do I have to wait for the upgrade and I am not paying for a new phone but I have to pay $10 plus extra a month on my cell phone bill because I was going over on my Data!!!  I have been beyond upset about this and Apple is not doing anything about this nor did they offer up some way to resolve the issue because obviously it is not just some rare incident if several people are having this issue.  Who knows how many people out there have had this issue and have not said anything about it.  Now there is a newer update that I can't do because it requires wifi in order to download.
June can not get here fast enough and I may not go back to Iphone after dealing with this for so long with no help from Apple.
