My trackpad has stopped clicking

I have an older macbook I believe. I thas a solid bottom  and is white with white keys. My trackpad has stopped clicking. I can move the mouse but I cannot click on anything. I have tried plugging in an  external mouse and I have the same issue. I am not a computer expert so I have no idea where to go from here. Please help. Thanks.

When you say that it has a solid bottom I take that to be a uni body MacBook with a battery that you don't remove. Try resetting the SMC
Newer Mac portables with a battery you don't remove
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

my tracpad has stopped working  any ideas?  I'm using a wireless mouse now, but no luck when it is unplugged

    Hello Jmaycam,
This is most likely a hardware issue with the track pad but have you tried removing the battery? If yes and you still have the issue I would suggest to do a clean reload of the device software as shown here: http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/KB11320
If this does not resolve the issue please contact your point of sale for warranty and repair options.
    Thanks.

  • My MacBook trackpad has stopped working correctly and now my MacBook Pro is beginning to malfunction

yesterday my MacBook trackpad stopped working, after resetting my mac it began working again but was jumpy. Now a day later when I turn my laptop on the mouse works for a short while (maybe 4 minutes) and then begins to go jumpy again and then my screen moves to the right and my programmes begin to open and close randomly based on my trackpad movements.
I Have no idea what to do! I've tried installing updates to see if it was that but except for that i'm not that used to a Mac so I don't know! Any help appreciated!

First look at this Apple support article for possible solutions:
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203171
If no success, sometimes a very through cleaning of the trackpad will restore functionality.
Last, open the MBP and examine the battery to see if it has expanded.  It resides under the trackpad and may be interfering with it.  If that is the case, the battery should be replaced.
    Ciao.

  • My 2009-ish 15" Macbook Pro's trackpad has stopped responding.

My trackpad started being selected all the time, so that instead of being able to click on folders or programs, I was only able to draw rectangles on the background. I can sometimes get it to select something if I click repeatedly, but most of the time I get nothing. I had Synergy set up so I could use the laptop from my iMac, but I'd really love to be able to use my laptop on its own again.
Any ideas on what could be wrong?

    Hi, scorcha79.
I found a couple of resources to help troubleshoot the issue you are experiencing. The first is this article named Intel-based Mac notebooks: Troubleshooting unresponsive trackpad issues found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1248.
Try disconnecting the MagSafe connector from the computer and check the trackpad function. If the trackpad becomes responsive again, improper grounding may be the issue.
If a two-prong AC plug is being used with the power adapter, try using the three-prong power cable that shipped with your computer and plug it into a grounded outlet.
If the issue persists, make sure the third prong is present and do not use an adapter to enable the three-prong adapter to be used in a two-prong outlet. Note that the ground in the three-prong outlet may not be connected. This is common in older homes or buildings with replaced outlets. In these situations, the three-prong power cable will not improve trackpad responsiveness.
If a grounded outlet is not available, rest your palm on the palm rest when using the trackpad. This should enable the trackpad to function properly.
If that does not resolve the issue then I recommend resetting the SMC on your computer. Here is an article on how to do that:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

  • T430 touchpad has stopped clicking

I recently spilled a small amount of soup on my T430's touchpad- dumb, I know. but I cleaned it out as best as I could without taking it apart. However, after a night of letting it dry, the mouse refuses to click. The touchpad works fine, but neither of the buttons are working. Will I need to get the hardware checked out and cleaned in order to use it? And if so, is there any easy way to pop off the mouse buttons to clean under them?

Have you tried to roll back OS to earlier time? Check system restore tool and try to roll back OS two weeks back.
    Please post the result.

  • Trackpad has stopped working completely, keyboard works fine

Yeah, there is no cursor movement and the lower right side of the trackpad does not even push down.  The lower left side will push down with much more effort than normal.

This sounds as if you may have a swollen battery, it does happen, you should take it in to an Apple Genius bar (make an appointment) your track pad may have failed, but since you mention that it takes more effort to press on it and the other symptoms make it sound like a swollen battery which is under the track pad. This should be d to ASAP as if left alone it may cause more issues.
The disgnosis is free. If you are still under warranty the repair will be fre as well, if not, it is not a terribly  expensive repair.

  • My powerbook has stopped letting me click.. Help !!

Hey guys, my powerbook has stopped letting me click.. My trackpad stopped letting me click (ie nothing happens when i do, even though the mouse moves around). I plugged in a USB mouse and its the same, though it lets me right click.
Any idea how I stop this amazingly annoying thing.?
    Thanks
    Josh

Sorry for the confusion I may have created.
Clicking, just below the trackpad, can be done anywhere on the bar, including either end. Does it feel any different physically when you try at various places?
The setting to defaults is under the keyboard shortcuts tab and would not apply to the mouse--sorry.
I'm running Tiger and you Panther, so there may be subtle differences.

  • Can't get itunes.  I get the following message when I click on either the shortcut or the program.  It says ITunes has stopped working and I can either check on line for a solution and close the program or just close the program.

When I click on the itunes shortcut or the program  I get the following message:
ITunes has stopped working.  My two options are:  Windows can check on line for a solution to the problem or close the program.
It seems that my entire library is not there.  If I sync my ipod will it add it back into my library on the computer?
I've even tried installing again and nothing works.  Tried the "repair" and it says that ITunes is loaded but I stil get the above error when I try to open the program.
    Thanks

Best Fixes for ‘Cannot Connect to iTunes Store’ Errors
    http://ipadinsight.com/ipad-tips-tricks/best-fixes-for-cannot-connect-to-itunes- store-errors/
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year. Then see if you can connect to the store.

I have tried to uninstall and re install still get same message. Don't know why or what to do? Does iTunes not see the phone?
If not, make sure you're running the current version of iTunes.
If you are running the current version and it still doesn't recognize it, see this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
As for iPhoto, you will have to purchase a newer version. It's not a free upgrade. Or, you can use Image Capture, which is built into OS X, to import the photos.

  • Why can't I open iTune Store on my PC?   When I click on the iTunes Store box, I get the message that the iTunes Store has stopped working.  This happens everytime.  What is wrong with my download?

My PC is running Windows 7.  I have downloaded the new OS Version for iTunes onto the computer.  It all works fine from the iPod Touch, but when I click the block for the iTunes Store, I get the message that "iTunes has stopped working".  What is wrong? How can I fix it so I can purchase from the store on my PC instead of having to use the small keyboard on the iPod Touch?

There's an issue currently that a lot of us are experiencing in that we all get the error message "iTunes is currently unavailable; please try later"
It's an issue with Apple and we're awaiting an update re this
I've posted a topic in regards to this after having a long conversation with Apple support this morning and will be receiving a call from their tech team tomorrow to run through it further
As it stands iTunes cannot be accessed via ATV's and nor can it be streamed via AirPlay from iTunes to the ATV
However I can access all films/iCloud content via my Mac Mini with no issues!

  • A magazine's app on my iPad has stopped working.  When I open the Newsstand folder and click on the app, the screen dims briefly, then returns to the Newsstand folder. The other app in my Newsstand folder (Wall Street Journal) opens without any problem.

A magazine's app on my iPad has stopped working.  When I open the Newsstand folder and click on the app, the screen dims briefly, then returns to the Newsstand folder. The other app in my Newsstand folder (Wall Street Journal) opens without any problem, and this magazine's app opens just fine on my wife's iPad.
I have deleted the app and reinstalled it from the Apple store and that makes no difference.  I have also done a hard reboot on my iPad with no result.
Any thoughts about what might be wrong?

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
(Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
Let me know if this works for you!
