My trackpad loses connection when left idle

My trackpad loses connectivity when left idle - anyone know why this is happening & how I can rectify? Grateful for any advice.

Nothing else I can think of to try.
You might want to take everything in for testing.

  • Mouse loses Bluetooth connection when left idle

I am suddenly having an issue where the bluetooth mouse which works off the preinstalled Toshiba bluetooth stack,
loses its connection when left idle for a little while.
    This was not happening before.
    What could cause this?
I just changed the batteries in the mouse so that is not the issue.
    Any ideas?

That doesn't matter. If you can get a newer version for your band then use it.
If not, install the Toshiba one and see if it works. Afterwards install your old one again,
but ensure during the uninstallation that you do not remove the old Bluetooth setup configurations (The uninstaller asks for it).
In this case the newer driver remain on your system. Maybe it solves your problem.

  • Macbook pro logs out of network when left idle and then I need to turn off the router and all computers in the house to reset the system.

I have a macbook pro running 10.6.8.  Since I got it over a year ago it will disconnect from the network when left idle and then not be able to reconnect.  All computers in the house have to be shut down and the router turned off in order to reconnect again.   My son just updated his macbook using my os disc and now his computer is doing the same thing.  What can we do?

  • Repeated Freezing When Left Idle.

Since updating my PowerMac G5 to Leopard back when it came out, I've had a serious problem where everything will freeze up when left idle. My machine is configured to just shut the display off after 10 minutes of inactivity and I leave it on constantly. Each time the machine is left alone for several hours I move the mouse or hit a key to turn the display back on nothing happens. This was never a problem with 10.3 or 10.4 and started the day I installed 10.5. I can still ping the machine from other locations on my network but I cannot get any other type of network connectivity. The only way to bring it back to life is to hard power it down.
I have been checking the logs to see if there is anything in there that can be an indication of what's going on and I constantly see errors relating to the USB subsystem. They look similar to this...
    USBF: xxx.xxx OHCI driver:
    OHCIRootHubResetResetChange bit not sticking.
    Retrying.
I've unplugged all of my USB devices to see if anything would change but it does nothing. The one thing I can't modify are the USB ports on my display. I have an older 17" display with an ADC connection. The ports on that display have been acting up for years and I do not use them but I have no means to disconnect them as it all flows over the ADC connection.
I'm running out of ideas on how to troubleshoot this.
    Thanks,
    Jeff.

Did you get tis fixed? I have an imac G5 that is doing the same thing.

  • Trackpad loses connection, can't reconnect if I have speakable items on.

When my trackpad is working, and I enable speakable items, the trackpad connection is dropped. I can't reconnect.
Soon as I disable speakable items, the trackpad can be reconnected.
I've done this several times, and results are the same.
I also have a wireless mouse and keyboard connected - they stay connected, no issues. Just the trackpad loses connection.
Anyone know why this may be?
I like having the trackpad connected, and use speakable items, because I'm having issues with my fingers.

The cables are the same.  Your computers USB may not be supplying enough power to charge the iPad. Read all about charging here:
    iPad: Charging the Battery, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4060
As to why your Mac doesn't see the iPad, do, you have at least Mac OS X 10.5.8?  That's the minimum required.
If your Mac's OS is OK, look at this:  iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X, http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591

  • Mouse & trackpad lose connectivity

The mouse & trackpad lose connectivity whilst in use for no apparent reason.
Installed fresh batteries in each device with no effect & connection drops out whilst using.
Have both devices turned on/operating at same time.

Further to above action , checked with iStudio who advised not to have other devices, such as iPhone or iPad nearby as can cause interference.
    Did following:
    - moved phone & iPad away
    - uninstalled mouse & reinstalled
Seems to have improved operation though the problem still occurs.
Will put Mouse in for service check as still under warranty.

  • BT Keyboard Loses Connection When Waking from Sleep Mode

I'm running Windows 7 on a late 2009 27" iMac and my Bluetooth keyboard keeps loses connection when I wake my computer from sleep mode. Usually the only way I can get it back is my resetting. Anyone know of a way to fix this? Any help would be great appreciated.

If the MBP doesn't wake when you open the lid but does when you press any key afterward, do this:
    Applications > Utilities > Terminal
Copy and paste the following text in the Terminal window:
    *sudo pmset lidwake 1*
You'll be asked for your admin password. Type that in (Note: the password will not be displayed as you do so). Press Return, and quit the Terminal. Close the MBP, wait for it to sleep, and open it again. Does it wake now?
If you want to change it back so the system doesn't wake when you open the lid, repeat the procedure, but this time type or paste:
    *sudo pmset lidwake 0*

  • My Photosmart Plus printer seems to lose connectivity when in sleep mode, how can I fix this?

My new photosmart plus appears to loose it's connection when it goes to sleep. At least the printers status page online says it's not connected, even though it is visible in my router and the blue light next to the antenna of the printer is on. It also appears to be connected when I poke around in the printer's settings, but if I want to print something from an app or via e-mail I have to run the wireless wizard again, select my netgear and enter the password. Once connected I get a screen where I supposedly can skip printing a report, but that does not work either, it prints no matter what I select, waste of paper and ink.
I searched around but found no solution that would work for me.
    Tech info:
wireless conection to my cable modem with Netgear router
Macbook pro and an older HP laptop are in use.
    Security is WPA2-PSK [AES]
I like the machine a lot, but this is rather anoying, what can I do to keep the connection when the printer sleeps?
    (edited to add security info)
    This question was solved.

Does the printer not wake from sleep for both the Mac and PC?
You may want to try setting a static IP address for the printer:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP.  Enter the current IP address.
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Leave the gateway and DNS blank. Click 'Apply'
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

  • Discoverer Plus loses connection when COLLAPSING in Hierarchy!

I am getting an error saying that' Discoverer connection is lost. Please contact your admin" when I am collapsing hierarchies. Did you ever encounter this kind of error ever? I have like 6 levels of hierarchies(date hierarchy, like yr,season, quarter etc)...So one hierarchy is Company ->Year and other one is Year->Season->Quarter so on.... So when I collapse one by one level its ok... but when i do it all at once from the top, i.e Company, it loses connection!!
Is it some kind of a bug???
    Thanks a lot,
    rocky

    Hi
Well it does sound like the hierarchies are to blame, although to be honest with you I've seen Discoverer losing its connection for something far less trivial than that. The most common reasons for losing a connection are network issues and being out of memory either on the Discoverer client or on the server. I'd suspect that memory is an issue.
Now, your second issue relates to the use of those hierarchies. Are they perhaps date hierarchies as opposed to item hierarchies? If so, whilst they are really quite clever, they do tend to cause more problems than they solve. Personally, if you are using date hierarchies, I would create a materialized view or table of your fiscal time and then create one folder for each date in your folder. I'd drop the Oracle date hierarchies in a heart beat but this is easier said than done.
    Does this help?

  • Macbook Pro 15" i7 2.66Ghz restarts when left idle

I think there is a problem when I have the Energy Saver option for Automatic Graphics Switching enabled and my machine is left idle, upon leaving for a meeting several times yesterday I came back to have my machine restarted at the login screen. This is a 3 day old fully updated machine running Snow Leopard 10.6.3. Anyone else experiencing this issue. After switching this off it has not restarted for over 18 hours now.

I've figured out the problem, Under Security there is an idle logout setting that somehow got switched on when I upgraded to Snow Leopard. My old machine did not have this setting on and thus it was timing out due to inactivity and looked like a restart but was actually a logout. If Phone support had gone through this setting the logic board would not have needed to be replaced. At least It's resolved.

  • Trackpad loses connection.. I go to the top of the screen and use disconnect and reconnect.. works till next time? OS Maverick

WirelessTrackpad loses connection, Have tried cleaning elect. connections and new batteries. This is not the problem..Found if I disconnect the blue tooth to the Trackpad and then reconnect it works till next time. Has anyone else had this problem. perhaps it is a Maverick OS problem??

    Hi ronpeck,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
In your situation, I would recommend reading over the attached article for information and steps on how to troubleshoot your wireless trackpad bluetooth connection.

  • HT1365 just installed a new wireless router (cisco linkseys E1200) and our apple laptops connect fine on one floor but lose connectivity when moved to another.  Other non apple laptops & Ipad connect with no problem no matter what floor they are on

We just installed a new wireless router to our main PC.  It's a Cisco Linkseys E1200.  All other wireless devices were able to connect without a problem, including my Ipad.  We have 2 Macbook Pro laptops.  They both connect just fine when on the same floor of our house as the router, but when we take them upstairs to the 2nd floor of the house, they lose connectivity and it states the wireless password is not the correct password.  All other 2nd floor laptops have no problem at all with connectivity no matter where they are in the house.  Please help- my husband is on the verge of selling Apple if that cannot be remedied.

This would not be a security issue symptom. I would consider checking for sources of wireless interference HT1365
Trying changing the radio channel on your wireless network.

  • Trackpad "Selects" when left Idle

I've noticed that if I leave my mouse cursor idle, without touching the trackpad, for a short period of time, it will act as if I've pressed and held down the mouse button. For example, if I leave my cursor over text in a webpage, then leave the cursor idle (i.e. i don't touch the trackpad) for 30 seconds or so, when I return and move the cursor it will highlight all the text it moves over as if I've pressed and held the mouse button.
In another case, I was using iTunes and left the cursor over the title bar of the program where you would normally click and hold if you wanted to move the program around on your screen. I left the cursor there for about 30 seconds and when i returned to move the cursor it acted as if I had selected and held the iTunes program, moving it wherever I moved the mouse cursor.
What's going on and how can I fix that? Has anyone else reported a similar problem? Thanks for any help!!

What you could try is going to System Preferences, then clicking on Keyboard & Mouse, then going to the Trackpad tab at the top and seeing if it says that dragging is enabled. If it is, uncheck it and see if that helps.

  • Ichat loses connection when idle

whenever my computer idles, my connection w/ ichat is lost! what can i do to stop this from happening? I don't have the connectivity problem any other time...

    No problem:
By the way, welcome to Apple Discussion.
Unfortunately, whenever your mac goes to sleep, iChat will disconnect.
The only way to resolve the issue is to not have your computer not go to sleep. You can however, just have your screen go to sleep (System Preferences>Energy Saver>Put the computer to sleep when it is inactive for>Never and Put the display to sleep when the computer is inactive for>Whatever setting you prefer.
    I hope this helps!
