My tracpad is depressed

My track pad seems to be getting hung up. When I push down on the track  pad, it sticks. So if I am trying to highlight an article, it will highlight the article as It should, but then it will stay depressed and if I lightly drag my finger over it, it will UN-highlight. The thing that seems to fix it is to pick it up slightly from it's surface and just let the one corner drop a bit and clunk on the surface, but this cannot be good for continual issues. Is there a way to clean it or something?

Is it sticking due to something being inside it or is the device itself worn out? If it's still under manufacturer's warranty (or even if it's not, just to have them try cleaning it to avoid you breaking it by accident) I'd bring it by an Apple store. Try to set up an appointment online before hand just so you don't have to wait around.

  • Mac Book Pro with a separate apple keyboard (wired) randomly the keyboard will make a thudding noise like a key is depressed and then freezes

Hi I'm using a Mac Book Pro with a separate apple keyboard (wired).  Randomly the keyboard will make a thudding noise like a key is depressed and stuck (which it isn't) which then stops when the keyboard is unplugged.  I've tried rebooting, plugging it into another port and unplugging  my mouse from it and it hasn't solved the issue.  I also can't pin point when it does it, it seems to be random so sometimes, like now it's fine and then others it does it every few minutes.  I'm reluctant to throw the keyboard out if there is a chance it can be fixed.  Any ideas?

You cannot use any additional devices on the keyboard's USB ports when used in this fashion (except perhaps ONE low power Apple mouse). Anything more draws too much power and may make the keyboard malfunction. In general, keyboards do not tend to complain about low power, they just stop working properly.

  • Middle C (C4) sustaining after being depressed in Logic Express 8

My son is having this problem involving a key (C4) sustaining after being depressed in Logic Express 8 only. This problem has only emerged after upgrading from Logic 7. I have sent an email to M-Audio (shown below) and they have agreed to keep me updated. I thought I would post it in the forums in case any one else has observed a similar problem. I would be grateful for any feedback.
    +"Hi Richard,+
+I am writing to you, on behalf of my son Alexander, as a follow up to his email (sent online and answered by you) attached below.+
+First of all thank you for your reply to his online enquiry. I am responding for him since I believe I have isolated the problem. First of all, the KEYSTATION PRO 88 keyboard is OK. There seems to be a conflict between Logic Express 8 and the M-Audio Firewire Audiophile driver. The sustain problem with middle C (C4) only happens with the Audiophile connected. Alex is using it to route digital audio o/p from his Powerbook to Roland DS 30 A studio monitors. If we listen to the audio via the Powerbook's headphone socket, then the sustain problem is not there. Everything works fine. I have tried a KEYSTATION 49e keyboard and this acts in exactly the same way as the KEYSTATION PRO 88. Middle C (C4) sustains when depressed, when the Audiopile is connected. Both keyboards can't be faulty! I believe there could be a conflict between the Audiophile driver and Logic Express 8. He has updated the driver to the latest version, but the problem remains. Logic Express 7 works OK (it always has).+
+I called TJ on the number you provided and he has logged my call as a possible issue. Is it possible for you to replicate the problem in your lab? Perhaps you can advise a fix, otherwise Alex will have to go back to Logic Express 7. I have also advised Apple, but it is their policy not to give feedback. They would probably say that it was an M-Audio problem anyway. I would be interested to know if you have had any other enquiries regarding this.+
+I look forward to hearing from you+
    +Kind regards+

Alex uninstalled Logic Express 8, then re-installed it. The problem seems to have disappeared. I hope for good. I may have posted this too hastily, but if someone else has a similar problem, then maybe reading this thread will fix it.

  • Depressed Solaris LWP priorities in J2SE 1.4.2, but not in 1.4.1

I have noticed that with J2SE 1.4.2 on Solaris 8 many of the Solaris LWPs are fixed to run at a lower priority than other LWPs, TS priority level 28. This was not true in J2SE 1.4.1, that all LWP prorities float on their own.
I see that when I add additional application threads to the java process, the corresponding LWPs do not have the priority limits, so I assume that these controlled/lower priority LWPs has to do with garbage collection. (The parallel GC works better on 1.4.2). But it also appears that lower-level TCP connections are in the priority 28 LWP pool as well.
Is there any requirement that the priority of these LWP remain depressed relative to other LWPs within the Solaris 8 Java process?
The 1.4.2 release notes say nothing about this change from 1.4.1. This priority control may be fine when tested in isoaltion, but it can cause performance problems when on a system where the priorities of other processes are controlled. I'd lke ot get more info so that on this so I can properly manage java as part of a greater application, and possibly put our own controls on these Solaris LWPs.
    Thanks!

I also posted this in the Java 2 Software Development Kit (J2SE SDK) Forum....
I am not sure what the right forum for my questions are.

  • Touch-Screen Depression

I have noticed that the bottom right hand corner of my 32 GB 3rd generation iPod Touch, if too much pressure is applied, will sink in a little. I don't really know what to do about it, or if it is even a problem. I checked the Apple support page, and I didn't find anything. Please help!

I am using a 64GB 3g iPod Touch however by applying slight pressure *I neither see nor feel* any depression on the bottom right hand corner of screen.
If your iPod Touch is still under warranty then have Apple look at it. If not and it is working properly then continue using it.

    - You are doing a double upmix/downmix. For me, I tried playing a movie I bought from ITUNES. It was 00% 5. sound but I, like you, only heard 4 channels. Then I realized that on my Logitech analog speakers that I had pressed the "matrix" button which is meant to physically take stereo and put it through all fi've speakers. So VLC was playing the file just fine but my speakers were taking the fi've to one sound and making it stereo.

  • Home Button will not depress.

    Hey all,
So I dropped my iPhone 4S the other day and the screen cracked which ***** but the worst part is that now the home button will not depress. I can push really hard and that will make it activate but there is no "clicking" sensation when pressing. It is really frustrating to have to push down really hard everytime I want to go back to the home screen.  I am hoping there is a way I can fix it without having to open up the phone before i go and get it replaced.
    Thank you.

The only advice is to go to an Apple Store and see if they can help.

  • App prototype--How to do on-click depression?

    I'm using Keynote '09 version 5.3
    on Mountain Lion 10.8.2
I have been trying to do a " button on-click highlight" for an app prototype. By "on-click" I mean when I click the button it's state changes from an inactive to a clicked/depressed state.
Using this Apple webpage as an example, if you click any button on the above menu bar, the button has an "on-click depressed state" when it is clicked with the mouse.
How do I do that in Keynote?
    It CAN be done.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOiCdZYVpqM
At approximately 1:05, this video demostrates exactly what I want to do.
I can't figure it out and the person who made the video hasn't answered my question.
    Thank you for your help!!

Creating active buttons in specialised interactive applications  have dedicated button set up menus
Keynote does not have this ability so you have to do it manually
create a button for the normal state using the objects tool, adjust to the size,   fill, colour and stroke you need
    copy the  button   command C
make a new slide   shift command N
paste the copy into 2nd slide   command V
select the 2nd button and change the stroke and fill for the actioned state
select the 1st button   inspector > hyperlink enable as hyperlink - link to slide - then select a slide number
use a transition  to  view the destination you want to navigate to   inspector > effect none   transition auto
play the presentation, when you click on the 1st button it will show the next slide with the appearance the button has highlighted, the slide will auto to the destination view

  • Right hand side of trackpad depressed more than left hand side

of late i realised that the bottom right hand corner of my mbp r15 early 2013 is much more depressed than the left side in idle state. i have rarely used the button on the trackpad.
anybody else facing the same issue. do i need to worry about this??

Trackpad misbehavior can be caused by a swollen battery.
If your MBP has a user-removable battery, take it out and examine it for any signs of swelling, particularly on the top surface that is closest to the underside of the trackpad. It should be perfectly flat. If you find any swelling or curvature, the battery needs to be replaced before it damages your computer. It may be covered under your warranty, but that's a discretionary call by Apple, depending at least in part on the age and cycle count of the battery.
If your battery isn't user-removable, make a Genius Bar appointment, demonstrate the trackpad anomaly, and ask that your battery be removed, examined for swelling, and replaced if it has swollen. Ask firmly and politely whether Apple will pay for the replacement. The answer may be no, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

  • I have inserted a mini cd in my Mac Book Pro and cannot eject it. I have tried re-starting with F12 depressed and re-starting with the mouse pad depressed.

I have inserted a mini cd in my cd drive but the drive did not detect it; I am unable to eject the cd. I have tried re-starting with F12 depressed and also re-starting with the mouse pad depressed.
I am in a country where I belive there is no Apple support - Azerbaijan.
Apart from a tin opener, any other methods for extracting the mini cd.
I only found out that mini cds are not suitable after inserting this one and then reading 2 help manuals!!!

Take it to a place that repairs computers if you're not close to any apple authorized dealer.
You user guide clearly states that you can not use smaller CDs in your Macbook.
Lesson learned.  Hopefully a repair shop can get it out for you.
Do not try to take it out yourself.  You might cause more damage than good to your macbook.
    Good luck.

    Thank you.

How did you get a Lion OSX install disc? They don't exist. Do you mean the gray disks that came with your 2007 MacBook?
If you mean the gray disks, try starting up with the "c" key held down.
What version of OSX is on your MacBook now? Have you tried booting from the Recovery partition?

  • Depressed keys on Macbook Pro 15" C2D

    Hi All,
I've had a new Macbook Pro for about 3 weeks and I already have, what seems to be, semi-permanently depressed keys; in affect the keys I've used most (e.g. R for reloading a page in Safari) are noticably lower than others - when pressing these keys they have less 'travel' making it disconcerting to use. Quite frankly there is now an array of different depths now across the keyboard.
I plan to call Apple support on tomorrow but wondered if anyone else had experienced a similar situation?
    Thanks,
    Ian.

It would be worthwhile turning off your keyboard repeat rate in Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Keyboard and mouse and seeing what happens. You are using only the built-in keyboard and trackpad?

  • TS3742 I have a kernel panic that doesn't respond to booting up with the shift key depressed.any suggrestions

I have A kernAl panic thAt isn't responding to the shift key being depressed during boot. Any suggestions?

Kernel panics are usually caused by a hardware problem – frequently RAM, a USB device or a Firewire device. What external devices do you have connected? When trying to troubleshoot problems on a laptop, disconnect all external devices. Do you experience the same problems?
To eliminate RAM being the problem, Look at this link: Testing RAM @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM Then download & use Memtest & Ramber.
Do you have an Apple Hardware Test disc (the AHT is on the Install/Restore DVD that came with your Mac)? Running the Apple Hardware Test in Loop Mode is an excellent troubleshooting step for finding intermittent hardware problems. It is especially useful when troubleshooting intermittent kernel panics. If Loop Mode is supported by the version of the Apple Hardware Test you are using, you run the Extended Test in Loop Mode by pressing Control-L before starting the test. Looping On should appear in the right window. Then click the Extended Test button. The test will run continuously until a problem is found. If a problem is found, the test will cease to loop, indicating the problem it found. If the test fails, be sure to write down the exact message associated with the failure. In some cases, RAM problems did not show up until nearly 40 loops, so give it a good run.
May be a solution on one of these links.

  • Volume Rocker, seems a bit depressed-in at the top

I was looking at my volume rocker and noticed it seems like it was more depressed in than that button portion of the rocker and the bottom portion makes a bit more of louder click where the top barely does and sometimes not at all.
curious if this is significant to have checked out.
i have only had two cases with this iPad. Apple supplied case and the Incase folio (which the incase offered ample room for the volume rocker so i dont think it was stuck on the incase).
    thanks

yeah, I just wasnt sure if overtime it lose traction on adjusting the volume.
I'm not going to waste their time if its a non-issue just wasnt sure if it seemed like something like a depressed button would have a negative effect overtime.
