My Trial is a Tribulation

I have been patient...trying not to have a temper tantrum with the CS5.5 Trial. Today I decided to record, edit and mix on CS5.5 a two-hour radio show that we do. I just now gave up. Back to 1.5, at least this week. Too many issues. Shall I begin counting?
1. I'm in Multitrack View. Suddenly my VO level on Track 1 went though the roof. The level line on the track showed it was 0 db. After 20 minutes of searching I found that in the "Properties" window, the level had gone to +14db. Holy crap! How did that happen??? Yet when I place my cursor over the yellow level line on the clip it says it's 0db. Wacky! Weird.
2. I got through the first segment of the show and began working on Segment 2. Now a new problem.cropped up. I can no longer adjust the levels on the clip. (you know the pretty yellow line that you can adjust up and down?) It no longer works and neither does the pan line (which I rarely use)
3.When choosing clips from thousands of mp3 and wav files in a folder, I can no longer quickly listen on the command line like I did with 1.5.. Now I have to go through several steps to listen. (open Windows Media Player) Whose bright idea was it to get rid of that? Going backward is also a problem.
4. Finally, in Multitrack view I used to be able to click anywhere on the screen and go there. Not now. I have to go up and drag the cute little yellow gizmo to wherever I want to go.
These last two issues may not seem like much but when you are editing a two hour show over sveral days, these extra mouse cliks are time consuming and tiresome.
For this trial...the jury is still out.
In the meantime can someone tell how I can get access to my MT volume adjustments again?

Hi Smart-Alez,
Quickly for a few:
#4. The behavior of the playhead cursor when clicking differs based on which editing tool you are using at the time.  If you select the Time Selection tool:
The playhead position will move to wherever you click.  If you have the Move tool (The left-most button in the above picture) selected, clicking is used only for clip selection/adjustment and moving the playhead must be done in the ruler.
#3.  If you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7, you can preview any file in the File Open dialog via right-click.  (This is not an API available in XP, and the modifications to the OS file dialogs done in Audition 3 and before were tenuous, at best and could only play via the default Windows device, not your selected audio device.  Needless to say, this feature is valuable enough that we are working on our own custom solution.)
#2.  Can you elaborate why you are unable to modify these on-clip envelopes?  Are they dimmed as if they're disabled?  Is it possible to share a screenshot?  I have not seen any reports like this, and am unaware how to get them into a state like this.
#1.  The yellow on-clip volume envelope is not related to the Clip Gain property, which is an up-front, transparent adjustment to a clips overall level, and is generally used to increase the amplitude of a quiet asset without using the destructive Amplify effects in Edit View.  The yellow Volume envelope is an adjustment of the signal level at the next stage in the chain.  So a 0dB envelope value means adjust the current signal by 0dB, eg. no change.  It does not indicate the real signal level of a clip at that position.

  • PE8 Trials and Tribulations

This is the story of my four day experience installing and running PE8.  For some of you there are tips that may help fix your problems. For others you will simply relate to my experience.  For those considering purchasing PE8 I highly recommend that you do your homework before jumping in.
I've been using PE4 for the last two years and was quite happy with the features and flexibility.  I consider myself a prosumer/serious hobbyist and have extensive geek experience.  My usual jobs consist of importing HDV video from DV tape that was recorded with a Canon HV20. I combine the video with still shots from a Canon 20D in JPG format, throw in some music, and make short (<5 min) videos.  I render and export in Widescreen DVD format (both PC and disk) and to H.264 HD format (both PC and Blu-ray disk).
Last week I decided that I should finally upgrade to the newest version just to stay current. I didn't read any reviews or do any research since I've always had a high level of respect for Adobe quality. Unfortunately my experience with PE8 has not been good.  I've spent the better part of four days trying to get it working properly.  I've had successes and disapointments. Some of you may benefit from the fixes that I used and I hope they will get you going with a functional and stable platform.
    System:
Intel Core 2 Quad (Q6600) native 2.4 GHz, overclocked to 3.0 GHz
    4 GB RAM
1 TB striped RAID (RAID 0 for speed)
    Nvidia 8800 GT
    Samsung SH-S203B DVD RW
    Pioneer BDR-203 BD RW (Blu-ray)
    Vista x32
Installed PE8, updated to the latest version of QuickTime (7.65.17), and went merrily off working on my first project. I immediately started having stability issues.  Crashes without any warning, crashes with "out-of-memory" messages, crashes with "unknown cause" messages, crashes to the BSOD, couldn't render anything without a crash, overloaded processors even when the program was idle AND after it was closed, etc.  Not good.  All this on a platform that is extremely stable with every other software package I run.
After spending a couple days researching the issues I applied some system modifications that actually fixed most of the problems I was having. In fact the program only crashed once or twice following the changes - a tolerable frequency as long as I saved frequently. Prior to the changes it was crashing very frequently.
Here's the steps that got my PE8 running stable (insert reboots in the usual places):
    1) Uninstalled existing QuickTime and Nvidia drivers (QT 7.65.17, Nvidia ?)
    2) Installed QuickTime 7.3.1 and updated Nvidia GeForce drivers to v195.62
    3) Uninstalled GeForce Stereoscopic 3D Driver (this doesn't affect your 3D gaming unless you use 3D glasses)
    4) Disabled the Auto-Analyzer "feature" in Elements Organizer
    5) Disabled Background Rendering in PE8
After taking these steps the only really annoying problem that still existed is that "Adobe Premier Elements.exe" continues to run after closing the program. It hogs about 25% - 100% of the 4 processors but doesn't appear to be doing anything. And yes, I did leave it running overnight just to see if it would ever finish whatever it thought it was doing - nope.
Overall I was very happy that the mods fixed 90+% of my stability issues.  I completed my 4 minute video without much trouble and then...I tried to render the final product.  The standard DVD quality rendering works great - in both PC executable and disk products. The HD 720p works fine in PC executable format. But the one thing that I really need to produce is H.264 or MPEG2 at 1920x1080.  In the final product everything seems to render okay and the video starts out okay but at exactly 30 seconds the audio cuts out.  The interesting thing is that I can start from any point in the video and the sound lasts for 30 seconds and then dies.
I found a post where another person was having the exact same problem with standard resolution PC output and they were able to fix it by selecting the Advanced button to open the Export Settings, selecting the Audio tab, and then selecting MPEG for the audio format.  If you are having this audio problem you should definitely try the above fix!  Unfortunately, for the higher res HD output no such option exists under the audio tab.  There is perhaps a 3rd option to fix this problem and that is to buy another video editing program, read in the corrupt PE8 output and re-render. Apparently this has worked for some folks but I'm refusing to buy another program just to fix the errors of the editor I already have.
In summary, if you are having stability issues try the fixes I've listed above. They could potentially fix your problems and get you up and running. As for me, I can't find a way to get around the audio problem and it's the one last thing preventing me from having a functional PE8. I plan to return the product (ordered from Adobe online) in the hopes that voting with my dollars will encourage them to fix the PE8 problems. My impression of the current version of PE8 is that it is an abomination that should have never been released. It is substandard even for a beta version.  If Adobe can fix their PE8 problems and create a editor that is half as good as their other products they I will be the first to sign up for a new copy.
Good luck with whatever trials and tribulations that you may be experiencing with PE8. I'm glad that the program is working for some and for the rest I hope Santa delivers a serious PE8 patch!

Please post "PE8 Trials and Tribulations" as a customer review on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-65045377-Premiere-Elements-8/product-reviews/B002IJA1DM/ref=dp _top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1http://.
I have the same computer and have experienced the same problems as you have. If you are able to get PE8 to function properly you will find that PE8 runs slower than PE7 due to all the new features (useless fluff).
You might also try deleteing any Reatek Audio drivers and allowing Win 7 to install it's driver, this seems to have helped my PE8 sound conflicts. I agree with you one hundred percent that PE8 should have been stabilized and the compatibility issues resolved before it was released. I guess things are done diferently at Adobe Bangalore.

  • Constant Problems with Ideapad Y510P Trials and Tribulations no one wants to help me with

My trials and tribulations with my Ideapad Y510P, this website, the Customer Service, and the Repair Department are as dauntless, perilous, and stressful as the journey up Mount Doom to cast the One Ring into the fiery depths to end the reign of chaos Sauron raught to Middle-Earth. It begins with my external/slide-in Graphics Card turning on and off and outright stopping to work and putting all the burden on the internal graphics card (of the same kind). Ultimately I'm told to try out SLI and come to this website to find a shoddy trouble-shoot resolution to try and trick the OS and computer to use SLI properly to share the burden of more stressful games and games all together (which I didn't even TOUCH; it's above my knowledge of computers). For a small time it works but in the end the external graphics card stops working completely and all the burden is given to the internal graphics card which it too stops working. Eventually my laptops screen stops working as well and the OS, I had to crack open an old monitor to see what was going on, on my computer, when I turned it on the lenovo screen was constantly flickering like something out of a horror movie or a foreboding warning of what was to come that I'm now dealing with. I figure I should install Windows 7 because at this point and my lack of knowledge I have no idea how to reinstall Windows 8 from a non-properly working laptop with no CD Drive. In the beginning I thought two graphics card would be perfect for more stressful games, sharing the burden to ease it so they don't overheat; well that idea and thought process was shot out the window and into a corner where it was beaten to a bloody pulp. So I remove the HD from the laptop, go downstairs to my Desktop and hook it up and install Windows 7 into it, in hopes of maybe resolving issues or trying to at least get to the desktop to figure something out. Well it absolutely did nothing. So I bite the bullet and send it into the "Repair Department" thinking WHAT. COULD. POSSIBLY. GO. WRONG. I get it back today at around noon with all my hopes and dreams to find out that instead of putting Windows 8 back into the Y510P I'm given a Windows 7 Desktop asking me for a CD KEY that I don't have, this isn't even the same CD OS I installed onto it but one from the Repair Department asking for a CD KEY I have no means of acquiring. I also find out that apparently it wasn't the Graphics Cards at all but the MOTHERBOARD. OF COURSE! (sarcasm) SO I CALL CUSTOMER SERVICE Customer Service tells me they can't give me the the CD Key because they have no correlations to the Repair Department (this is starting to sound like a bad divorced couple) so they can't give me the CD Key, let alone email it to me. So I ask to talk to the Supervisior (who is probably the nicest thing that has happened thus far in my trails of Lenovo and the Misadventures of O_Green_World). He tells me that the motherboard is set to work with Windows 8 best and that I can install BIOS for Windows 7 on the website and to reinstall my copy of Windows 7 the way I did it before giving it to Lenovo, and or waiting for this Windows 8 CD which isn't even an OS but some sort of way to contact the Windows 8 on the Motherboard to install it that way (which is being mailed to me now). Now here is my fresh new problem with this whole shindig. I've installed my copy of Windows 7 onto my Lenovo Y510P. It doesn't have the installation drivers for the Ethernet or Network Controller, under Device Manager they are under "Other Devices" in the Device Manager window. So I can't can't a Ethernet Cable let alone Wifi in order to go onto Lenovo's website to download Windows 7 BIOS/Drivers for Y510P. ALSO, ALSO, if the computer falls asleep it doesn't wake up at all I have turn off the computer and turn it back on. For all that is good in the world please, someone, somewhere help. [Edit] - I just had to seperate my **bleep** post because it posted it as a giant wall of text.

    Hello Sachin,
Here is the latest version of the code , I have tried many. I am not familiar with code that is why I came from Dreamweaver to Muse. Laugh, it would make you cry.
Dreamweaver is advertised as wysiwyg which it certainly is not. Muse advertises that you can build a website without knowing code( as long as you do not want to put a  simple run of the mill animation on your site)! Having had my usual grouse I still love Muse as it does everything, well nearly everything it says it will do, and makes building a reasonable site possible for someone who has very little knowledge. Once you have sorted the code out I probably will need to talk to you again when it comes to uploading to server as I can see from the forums that this seems to be a weekness of the system also. Thanks for your cheerful reply to my utterly unreasonable previous communication and I look forward to you solving all my problems. I think' IT' is the only business in the world where people pay good money for products that don't work and are then told to go and chat amongst themselves on forums to see if they can solve the problems collectively. Couldn't resist that one I'm afraid. Old and grumpy! I hope you can access the code. I have no idea where it is but I copied it here in the html frame. I even find it difficult to use this forum. User friendly!

  • P6N Diamond: Problems, Issues, or just trials & tribulations?

P6N Diamond: Problems, Issues, or just trials & tribulations?
I've had some issues with my new pc (see my sig). I initially finished it about a month ago. It was running just fine
until 10 days ago. On 11/10, I finished the evening by adding 2 gb of material to Oblivion & then defragging w/Diskeeper 2k7
(the 3rd defrag that week). The next morning I turned the pc on & it posted normally but then the screen went blank,
except for the words "missing operating system". I restarted the pc a couple of times, which didn't help, I then checked
the bios, & the drive was properly listed. Next, I tried to repair the boot record w/Vista's Recovery Console (RC), however the
RC didn't see an OS, even after loading sata drivers. While pointing the RC to the drivers, I tried to access the C:, the RC
said that drive needed to be formatted. I took that to mean the drive was toast, so I ordered the Seagate (still tried to
fix the boot record through the command prompt using Dos repair commands-no luck), which arrived on 11/15.
That evening I loaded the new hdd & then Vista, after which came the vista updates, drivers, then some of my other basic
programs (diskeeper, firefox, foxit, etc.) & then I defragged. One thing that seemed odd to me about this new install was
that the 'bubbles' screensaver seemed sluggish, that is, less energetic than the first time through. After defragging I was
going to shutdown when another vista upgrade popped up, checked to see if it was important or recommended-it was important.
I clicked to install & it started to install & then the pc got hung up. I tried C-A-D, but it didn't work so I hit the reset
button, got back to the windows desktop, everything looked fine, so I decided to put the pc to bed & do the rest the next
day, the pc turned off gracefully.
11/16. I turned on the pc & it posted properly, but then went to a blue screen. I don't remember what the message was, something
about windows being unable to start, I think. I then hit C-A-D & then loaded the RC. The RC was able to see an OS this time,
so I clicked on it & the repair started. After a couple of minutes the repair finished & asked to restart, which I did. The
pc posted just fine again, but then went to another blue screen, but with a different message, as I recall. I did the RC thing
again, though this time  after the repair was going for a few seconds, I was asked if I wanted go to an earlier restore point,
which I did. I was asked to restart again, I did & the pc booted all the to the desktop. I spent the rest of the day checking
out data corruption & diskeeper 2k7, I did find some forums where that was discussed. Though there was also mention of bad
memory causing data corruption as well-more to think about. The pc shutdown gracefully at bed time.
11/17. When I turned on the pc this day I didn't pay close attention, since I figured my pc problems were over, however when
I looked the screen it was black, no messages or anything. A point to the good was that the fans were running & the stylized
light on the XiFi card was lit. Still, a big '' was bouncing about in head. It seemed the pc didn't post. What was wrong:
the motherboard; the videocard; the ram; or, maybe the new hdd? So, I thought about the situation for while. Should I go to
a pro? Should I test my other, unused, ram stick? And, where did I put that damn diagnostic bracket that came with the mobo?
After a couple of hours, I decided to start the fixing process by hitting the reset button. Perhaps the pc did post earlier,
or at least partially, because the pc performed a partial post this time, with the message 'checksum bad' under the partial
component list. At the bottom of the screen was 'press f1 to setup.' I pressed f1 & got into the bios. In the bios, I
noticed several differences, particularly the sata controller being disabled & the boot list was messed up. I corrected
those & saved & exited. I then loaded the RC to see if any more repairs were needed, but none were. I restarted the pc &
it booted & loaded into vista quickly & cleanly. The pc has continued to boot cleanly the past three days while I've been
watching for hardware problems, mainly ram or cmos battery errors.
11/20. So, now what? I'm seriously considering reinstalling vista once more. I think my hardware is alright, I suspect
Saturday's problem was a conflict between the restore point & the bios. I'm ambivalent about diskeeper, I've bought it,
but I didn't buy it to beat myself over the head with.
If you've read this far would you do me the additional favor of telling me your opinion? I've noticed a fair amount of wisdom in this
forum & I think I could use a little extra input. Happy Thanksgiving!
    Thank you all,
    tryggvi

    ...The saga continues...
11/24. PC posted & went right to vista. I decided to test a different set of vid drivers so I installed th geforce 169.12 betas to see if that would eliminate the screensaver sluggishness I mentioned above-it did, the driver has been stable but I haven't pushed them either. PC ran fine all day & it shut down normally at the end of the day.
11/25. PC posted & went right to vista. I installed several programs (including auslogics defragger) & attached 3 sata (1 optical & 2 ext.hdds). Defragged in the middle of the afternoon & pc ran fine the rest of the day & shut down normally that night.
11/26. PC posted but the I got the "missing operating message." Damn! So, now I'm thinking defrag corruption, bad sata controller, or failing cmos battery. I tried to fix the vista install w/recovery console, but it couldn't even find an os. I also checked the bios during this time, everything was fine except that the time was off by a couple of hours. I did a clean install of vista again on a lean machine & then some basic programs. I turned of the pc a couple hours later and added 2 sata drives, the pc posted & loaded vista just fine. The pc shut down normally at the end of the day.
11/27. No apparent post. I hit the restart button, the pc then posted w/a 'checksum bad' message at the bottom. I got into the bios & found the following entries changed: time & date; full screen logo display; boot sequence; on board sata controller; and, boot from other devices. I reset these entries & saved & exited. The pc booted into vista just fine & ran normally the rest of the day, shutting down normally as well.
11/28. No apparent post again. Repeated the immediate above, the same entries were changed, so I reset them & the pc posted & vista loaded just fine. With the same changes happening 2 days in a row, & all the bad things happening after the pc being off over night, the problem seems fairly certainly to be a bad or failing cmos battery, especially since I haven't tried to flash the bios or shut down the pc improperly. In my research of cmos battery problems, it was recommended that you try to recharge the battery by leaving the pc on 24-48 hours before replacing the problem, so I'll leave the pc on until the evening of the 30th.
11/29. 36 hours plus & the pc is doing fine. Sorry for the journal, but it helps me think & gives others a clearer idea about what's been going on. Does anyone have any other ideas? My cmos battery is a 'KTS lithium cr2032', if need be can I replace this w/any other cr2032? Especially since I can't find a KTS one.
    Thanks all,

  • Trials and Tribulations of a First Time MSI Builder

I'll try to keep this short and sweet (IMPOSSIBLE!), but hopefully this may make sense to some of you out there who have sought and found solice here on the MSI boards....
First off....I'm a first-time MSI MB user.....my system specs are as follows:
    Voyeurmods Verge X case
    MGE Vigor 500 PS
    Athlon 64 2800
    MSI K8T Neo FSRII
    1 gig Kingston 400DDR (KVR400X64)
    1- 80 gig Barracuda SATA
Thermalright SLK948U and TT UFO fan
    Aopen DVD/CDR combo drive
    TT Hardcano 12
    Enermax 6 fan controller
    Asus 9800xt
    Audigy Platinum
and assorted other fans, belts, and whistles......
Now...the story and the point behind this post:
I have only built one other comp....2.4 Pentium Platform......nice, stable rig.....a few extra goodies to qualify it as a "semi-mod"...but it was a great system to cut my teeth on, and in all fairness, I had a lot of extra help with cables/bios/cpu install, etc.  I wouldnt call it a "from-scratch" set up...Never one to NOT jump into the deep end of the pool, I decided to move up a bit and try a new build from scratch....I wanted a decent rig...strictly gaming......as close to state of the art as my budget would allow, but I was prepared to make exceptions......
My original MB of choice once I settled on an Athlon 64 was the Abit KV8. It was a great-looking MB; I thought the OATES cooling system was a significant upgrade from a lot of others...and I liked their "UGURU" system management tool...unfortunately, the Abit MB is now sitting in a trash bin....I have to say that, all emotion aside, Abit wont be seeing my cash any time in the future.....to call the OATES system a total failure would be an understatement...only AFTER I started reading the Abit boards did I realize that virtually every builder was removing the plastic OATES shroud and tossing it away.......the screw alignment in the OATES portion of the board, coupled with almost any aftermarket HS/fan alignment warps the board slightly and doesnt allow multiple sticks of memory to sit properly in the slots......if you folks think thats a joke, just check out the Abit forums.....I'd say that right now, the negative reviews of the KV8 boards are surpassing the "positive" reviews by a ratio of 2 or 3 to 1. And then try RMA'ing the board once its warped!
Now granted, the Thermalright SLK puts a hell of a stress load on the CPU section of the MB through sheer weight alone, but the MSI board, TO ME, seems to be a bit "beefier"....a tad thicker in construction. I dunno...maybe its the layout, or weight distribution. But I digress and this was "supposed" to be short and sweet....
Many hours of bareboning the build with the Abit board resulted in me switching manufacturers and trying MSI. Everything I tried....all the tech support....all the forums and Abit messageboards.....litterally swapping out every piece of equipment....nothing got that Abit board to boot up. I was getting error messages that werent even acknowledged by the manufacturer! Folks, you have NO idea how much better a product MSI is putting out compared to Abit.
For starters.....the board sits damned near perfectly on the standoffs.....one does NOT have to remove the video card to get at the memory slots (the Abit board requires MOST if not all video cards to be removed if swapping memory in slot 1)...the layout of the SATA and IDE brackets seemed a bit more ergonamically proficient on the MSI board.....about the only thing that appealed to me (initially)more on the Abit board was an "on board" LCD error check system that seemed to be a bit easier to use than the MSI D Bracket system. I say "seemed to be", but again, going back to basic board layout and design, the LCD's are virtually covered by the IDE cables that have to sit over the LCD's because of their close proximity to each other. Nice idea. Poorly executed.
So....if any of you first-timers have concerns about choosing the MSI board, start breathing easier.....once I switched boards, and used the exact same components as my first try with the Abit board, the K8T Neo started up first time out of the box.....everything about this board (knock wood), so far, has been great, and I also have to say that the help that all of you here dish out has made this experience nothing short of amazing.
Jocko, whoever the hell you are, you are my new Obi Wan Kenobi! Your advice in a few threads to newbies like myself was so damned "dead-on" ....so accurate...its like you know these boards and systems from the circuit on up! And I have to thank you right now for helping me even though we never exchanged emails or posts......many, many, many thanks!
Also, Mike...your thread for first-timers......it should be part of the itinerary for ALL newbies. Thanks for taking the time to share....
Finally...some additional thoughts that may help others ( or may not):
    1. Configuring the BIOS is, to me anyway, always a bit scary. I like pointing and clicking...I hate pressing enter and using arrow keys...there are just too many damned choices and I'll always wonder if I made the right ones......scan back a few threads and search out any of Jocko's advice regarding the initial load of Windows and SATA drives...he makes this part easy. Also, there are several websites that give advice on optimum BIOS configs....you can find many links here on these forums.
    2. If any of you want custom modded cases at decent pricing, dont be afraid to use Voyeurmods. Everything about Brian and his crew is top notch.....the customer service....the shipping.....the Verge X case is simply perfection.....I cant say enough nice things about them.
    3. Kingston memory can be purchased directly from their USA website at fairly discounted pricing from just about anyone else on the web.....I paid $139.00 for 2 512 sticks of 400 DDR(not per stick...$139.00 total) a while back...pricing changes weekly so if you like Kingston product, check them weekly for specials...so far it has worked perfectly in my rig, and because you are buying direct, the warranty is as good as it gets.
    4. The Thermalright SLK 948 is one hell of a heatsink, and the TT UFO fan that sits on top of it makes for one nice combo! My CPU refuses to overheat under load, and I cant say enough about how easy it was to install on the board. If any of you want a superb aftermarket product this does the trick nicely.
    5. Any idea why the 2 power slots on the MSI MB are on opposite sides of the board? That was the one glitch I found on these boards that Abit did right...place the 2 power connections side by side for better cable management.
    6. If on the first power up the entire system stays dark, chances are it AINT a bad Power supply...more than likely its front panel headers in the wrong slots..check your wiring. If there is just a slight glimpse of power and it cuts out immediately, its almost assuredly wrong wiring....the PS is shorting itself out.
    7. On the HOT topic of power supplies....my MGE has 20 amps on the 12 volt line...I know, I know....its barely adequate to some of you....but I have to say this in as nice a way as possible: folks, it AINT always the power supply when a problem develops. I have read countless.....COUNTLESS posts/threads on both Board forums where a problem is "diagnosed" as being a crappy power supply. Some folks wont even discuss any other issue until a different PS is installed. The sad/funny thing is....if you read back through the threads here, as well as the Abit boards, I'd say 90% of the solutions to the problems didnt end up being the PS at all! Its more like: 30% user error....20% memory...10% CMOS clearing....20% component failure(including MB)....10% CPU seating.....10% PS.
    8. Do....regardless of how much extra work is involved here....DO utilize a barebones build BEFORE you install in the case and hook up all the peripherals.....it cuts out SO many potential problems before they happen, and just makes so damned much sense. I know its extra effort, but if youre a first timer, and you want that first boot to take place; you want that main screen once you press "DELETE", this is the way to go.
    9. Clearing CMOS.  LOL! Yup......oh the errors of first- timers like myself!!!!!! Dont even bother posting here until you make sure you cleared the CMOS properly, and if youre not sure how, dont be afraid to ask stupid questions like I did here.
    10. Dont be afraid to use cardboard as your anti-static material under a barebones...it works well...costs nothing...and your only potential issue is heat build up if your CPU freaks out.
    11. DONT overuse your Artic Silver 5 on the CPU.....forget all the advice about "spreading out evenly" a thin layer of silver all over the CPU cover.....use the "grain of rice" method in the center.....a very small amount spreads out like you cant imagine! After I removed the HS from the CPU on the Abit board, I couldnt believe how thoroughly well the paste had spread over the CPU cover. If I had used more, or spread it out, the TR SLK would have forced it well over the sides of the CPU.
    12. DONT be afraid of the BIOS. The MSI manual actually does a pretty decent job of guiding one through the initial set up, and YES...do NOT forget to press F10 to save all your changes.....it took me a couple of tries to make sure the changes "took".
    13. DONT panic if you miss the F6 move on Windows install for SATA drivers.....it seems that on XP home, pressing F6 when prompted to made no difference.....30 seconds later the "add 3rd party drivers" screen comes up anyway.....for reference sake, my total Windows XP install took 16 minutes from start to finish.
    14. Loading the VIA SATA drivers at that point in Windows is tricky for one very simple reason: the floppy doesnt have any "scroll down" arrows for multiple driver install. They are hidden UNDER the initial screen....press "S" when prompted for the initial driver....and then scroll down under the first batch to find the second one...highlight it and press "S"....dont panic if the screen doesnt change immediately...it "feels" like Windows lags a bit but the screen DOES change.
    15. SATA cables dont always "sit" snugly in Barracuda drives...I tried 3 different cables from legit manufacturers in 2 different Seagates....they all fit...they all work...but just a tiny amount of pressure unseats them....use caution and try to keep any other cables from pressing OVER the SATA near the HD.
    16. Bench test your system for at least 24 hours of continuous useage before you move it or do anything else with it......it just makes sense to see if anything shorts out or heats up......
Feel Free to email me ([email protected]) if you have any questions or want any ideas.....MSI has made my first real build a blast!

  • Custom File Info Panel: Bridge Locks Up (trials, tribulations, woes)

    o/ all!
So I've spent the better part of this morning trying (for what I think is the fifth time this year) to get a custom file info panel installed properly. I've managed to successfully install a generic panel with most of the properties that I'd like in the panel proper, however, I'm having no end of trouble publishing and installing the panels and having them display properly in Bridge CC (64-bit).
I've followed the instructions provided in the Programmer's Guide to the letter (yes, including the trust files), and I'm still having issues.
    -- System Information --
    OS: Windows 7 64-bit
    Flash Builder 4.7 (64-bit)
    Adobe Bridge CC (64-bit)
Right now, all I'm trying to do is:
Create the flash builder project for an XMP File Info Panel
    Publish the file info panel
Confirm the file info panel was installed correctly in Adobe Bridge CC.
    The process:
    1. I create the new project in Flash Builder (I've attempted using the 4.6.0 and 3.6A flex SDKs).
Now, at this point, I'm simply attempting to confirm that everything is hunky-dory with the installation process before I start converting my generic panel into a flash/flex panel; so I'm not modifying any of the files that the wizard created.
    2. Right-click the root project folder in the leftmost pane in Flash Builder, select XMP>Publish.
    3. Locate the published panel's output directory that Flash Builder published to
    4. Copy/paste the published panel's root directory to the following directories:
    C:\Users\Erik\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\4.0\panels\
    C:\Users\Erik\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\4.0\custom\
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\4.0\panels\
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\4.0\custom\
I put the panel definition in all of these folders as per various 'fixes' to what I think my issue is that I've discovered while google-troubleshooting.
    5. Create a trust file in FlashPlayerTrust folder with the name testPanel36A.cfg (contents listed below):
    C:\Users\Erik\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\4.0\panels\testPanel36a\bin\testPanel36a.swf
    C:\Users\Erik\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\4.0\custom\testPanel36a\bin\testPanel36a.swf
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\4.0\panels\testPanel36a\bin\testPanel36a.swf
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\4.0\custom\testPanel36a\bin\testPanel36a.swf
As far as I know, I can put multiple paths in these .cfg files, but I'm not-at-all confident that this is, in fact, the case.
After all this, I fire up bridge, right click an image file, and select FileInfo. The dialog displays fine, and the panel tab appears on the right. Clicking on the panel reveals nothing but a gray area with no content, and Bridge locks up entirely. I can't cancel out of the dialog, and end up having to end the process from Task Manager.
My gut tells me that I'm doing something wrong with the trust files, as this seems like the issue that most closely resembles what I'm encountering. Secondarily, It may be the flex SDKs -- I only have the 4.6.0 and the 3.6A SDKs, and the link in the Flash Builder dialog takes me to the sourceforge page for Adobe, and from there, I cannot locate any additional older SDKs to try this with (I've seen posts around saying that people got their panels to work with 3.0, or 3.5).
Anyone have ANY insight on this? Seriously at my wits end -- I've tried everything but nothing seems to work . Many thanks,
    .e

    Hi The_Mumm,
You need to correct content fo the .cfg file (hope your .cfg file is at correct directory i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#Security\FlashPlayerTrust). Yes, I agree that you have followed the documentation and put the path upto .swf file.
Could you please modify the content of the trust file, with the below content (you path have been modified)
    C:\Users\Erik\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\4.0\panels\testPanel36a\bin\
    C:\Users\Erik\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\4.0\custom\testPanel36a\bin\
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\4.0\panels\testPanel36a\bin\
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\4.0\custom\testPanel36a\bin\
Hope everything will work now. If it doesn't work, please put only one path in trust file e.g. "C:\Users\Erik\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\4.0\panels" and put the publish panel in this folder.
One more precaution, don't copy, if required move the custom panel from one place to other.
Please let me know if you still faces any issue.  Enjoy you new year.
For your reference, I am following the following steps and everything is working fine
    1. Open the Fb7,
    2. file->new->project
    3. in the new project wizards, select "xmp->custom panel wizard"
    4. xmp->publish custom panel
    5. Open the .cfg file and added the path (C:\Users\<user name>\appdata\Roaming\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\4.0\panels)  where my panel has got published.
    6. Ran Bridge CC, panel is there and working fine.
One more variations I did is, moved custom panel from C:\Users\<user name>\appdata\Roaming\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\4.0\panels to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Bridge CC (64 Bit)\Custom File Info Panels\4.0\panels  (the location of the custom file info panel inside bridge).
For you doubts I tried with flex SDK 3.3A and 3.6a both worked fine. As in forum you have written that you don't have any other sdk. If you like please go on the following links for older SDKs "http://sourceforge.net/adobe/flexsdk/wiki/Download%20Flex%203/"

  • The Starting Trials and Tribulations of Windows 7 to OS X Lion...

Hmmm...  I'll try not to make a habit of this before looking at manuals which I cannot access until I actually setup my MBP.
What do you call the gadget desktop off to the left of the main desktop?  As far as that goes you probably don't refer to the desktop as a 'desktop' either--my bad--tell Bill Gates all about it.
    1. Anyway, in that side gadget desktop is there any way to configure it to look like an extension of the main desktop?  The dark gray mat pattern is so 'bland'.
    2. Are there more 'colorful' 'functional' calendar, weather, calculator, clocks, and other gadgets that can be used from Apple and/or 3rd parties?
    3. Can any of these gadgets be moved to the main desktop and this side desktop closed down if not needed or used?
I'll stop here because it is obvious to me even that I 'Don't Know Jack' about the MBP yet.  But this is a perfect example of what I'm going to be getting into and a perfect example of what I maybe should stay away from.  I don't want to see how far I can go necessarily or how much time I can spend trying to make my MBP look like and act like Windows 7.  But surely there's something better I can easily do with that bland side panel with more functional and colorful gadgets?
Oh, this is going to be fun isn't it?  At least I have learned how to deal with the lame Jive editor spell checker in these forums with some functionality--maybe.

As nobody has actually pointed some of these things out.
Desktop is the Desktop. Desktop is the metaphor for your entire workspace, although you have a Desktop folder which holds the things that sit on the Desktop. You can have multiple Desktops in Mission Control, but they each do not have their own separate folder.
The space you are referring to is called the Dashboard. It holds Widgets. At one time, there was quite a big push in the development of Widgets. I don't know if that is true anymore as I rarely use it, now. You can kind of roll your own from a Web Page. In Safari, there is an Open in Dashboard command that allows you to select an element of the page to send to the Dashboard. Depending on the element, it may work fine as a sort-of standalone widget. If you click on the + at the bottom of the  Dashboard, you will see rows of all the Widgets stored on your Mac. You can add them to the Dashboard. There is also a button (More Widgets...) to take you to the Apple Widget download page. That is not all of them, but it is a pretty complete list.
Have a look at the Tutorials here, http://www.apple.com/findouthow/mac/

  • Boot Camp Trials & Tribulations

I've got the most recent MacBook (not Pro) with Windows 7 installed in my Boot Camp partition. What I need to know is if there's some application, or some keystroke, or anything I can do to put some files from my Mac OS (IE; Steam, Fallout 3, etc.) that I had to put on the Mac side due to lack of internet connectivity on the Windows side; and I need to do this without the use of external media devices such as a flash drive or DVD, since I don't have any.

If you've installed the Windows software from the Mac OS X 10.6 install DVD, you can read the Mac OS X partition from Windows. Alternatively, install the NTFS-3G drivers on the Mac side and drag the files to the Windows partition in the Finder.

  • Looking for a trial version of Premiere Pro CS6 (or Production Premium CS6)

I suppose much has changed since Creative Suites started going to Creative Cloud.  I can't say that I am pleased with the idea, but it seems to be making my search for an upgrade rather difficult.   I've been considering updating my Production Premium 5.5 to PP CS6 but figure a trial version of at least Premiere Pro CS6 makes sense.  I can't find the traditional trial download anywhere.. except maybe on the cloud pages.  Anybody know where I can get a trial without all the tribulations? Also, I'm curious about how other editors feel about Adobe and Premiere going to CC?
    Thanks

    Hi,
The invoice was cancelled during 2007 but it is still showing in the AP Trial balance and GL Trial Balance report.
May I know why? The current fix is to go the JE and fix it to zero, but this involves lot of manual work.
Please guide me to find the exact root cause.

  • I'm in the trial period for Creative Cloud - I have about 19 days to go on Photoshop CC on my iMac.  Can I use the same CC trial on a second machine?  Specifically on a Windows 7 machine?

I'm in the trial period for Creative Cloud - I have about 19 days to go on Photoshop CC on my iMac.  Can I use the same CC trial on a second machine?  Specifically on a Windows 7 machine?

Nothing personal to you or Rajshee, but this is exactly why I absolutely despise these "community forums" (not just Adobe but any company).  I called the Tech Support phone line today after digging and digging for a phone number, and they told me the exact opposite, and they did it a lot faster than it was possible to get a forum response.  (That's really not personal, because you can't control that, but it's a fact.)
Their answer: As long as I'm signed in with the same ID, I can try, say, Photoshop CC on my iMac at home and also try Acrobat Pro CC on my Windows 7 machine at work.  Same account, same login, one trial.
This makes complete sense to me as I'm financially on the hook (potentially) for the same package.  If I give away my login to someone else, which I wouldn't do, I'm still on the hook.  This is why the cloud approach to software is such genius and I applaud it.
BTW, 99% of the "community forum" wrong answers come on Microsoft sites, so don't feel bad.

  • CC subscription just reverted to trial and no longer works (Flash CC / CS6)

After six months of using Flash CS6 (Creative Cloud), last weekend I decided to try the Premiere CC Trial.
That worked great and at the same time my Flash just switched to trial and became unusable (trial has expired already)
I've tried everything suggested by Adobe Technical team so far and more which involves the usual unistalling everything and reinstalling, logging out and in, cleaner tool, etc.
    Still nothing will fix it.
I think I noticed an update to the Creative Cloud app at about the same time - I'm wondering if it is this causing the issue....
BTW, inside the Creative Cloud app, my account shows my valid subscription to both Flash CC and Flash CS6... and several other items show 'Install' rather than 'Try'
    Please help!
(I posted this in another discussion as reply to a similar issue but the topic is flagged as answered so I'm guessing starting a new discussion is the right thing to do..)

    Hi Ankit,
I am so frustrated by this - I have already lost days of my time trying to fix this. Not to mention the thrill of paying for software I can't use.
I have literally uninstalled and reinstalled everything I can think of a dozen times or more.. seen the post you mention already.
I have never changed languages... seen all the other stuff on the other thread too.
But guess what.. that is all pretty irrelevant because I was assuming that this was something to do with my particular machine.. but it isn't.
The proof? I went to my Mac which can also run the CC software and has been doing so just fine.. till.. you guessed it.. today..
Just tried that and the same thing has happened.. all reverted to trial.
So it is at your end... on your servers.. it has to be, right?
And all this nonsense you are dishing out here is just a massive waste of time. Well I'll need to fume in the corner for a bit longer I'm afraid.....
So.. trying to get calm and rational again...
The only thing I have changed on my account online is my id and password because I have literally tried everything I could think of... even that.
So my adobe id has changed.
I am signing into CC with the correct id and password.
Unless you are going to tell me that that has broken my Mac versions then please do let me know what on earth is supposed to be going on here...
    Thanks
    M.

  • Why is no free trial available?

I need to download a free trial of Dreamweaver for Windows (PC) to do an important project for a college class, but I can't find a free trial. It looks like a new version of Dreamweaver (CS5) is coming out soon, so I can't find the CS4 trial anywhere. I only have access to this program at school, but I live 40 minutes away so I need to be able to work on this at home. I've even gotten so desperate that I tried downloading a free trial from some shady-looking sites, risking getting a virus. So far, none of the download links have worked. I can't afford to wait even as much as a week, because I need to create a website from scratch by May 6. If there is no free trial of Dreamweaver available, does anyone know of another type of website creation software that I could use to write the codes and CSS style sheet for my site, and then I could copy and paste them into Dreamweaver at school? I realize, since this is an official Adobe website, users may not be allowed to promote other companies' software, but if there's nothing available from Adobe right now I may have no other choice. I'm not very tech-savvy and I've never used software like this until a month or two ago, so I'm panicking about the shortage of time that I have for this project. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Based on pre-order information the release is imminent (estimated release 4/29).  If you cannot wait and need a trial immediately there are 2 things you can do.
If you can get your hands on a disc, even at school, do so.  Installing the software without a serial number will start the trial.
Otherwise, if you need a trial and you use Windows, there is Expression Web ( http://www.microsoft.com/expression/products/Web_Overview.aspx ).  On the Mac side, I would say maybe RapidWeaver ( http://www.realmacsoftware.com/rapidweaver/ ) or Coda ( http://www.panic.com/coda/ ).
