My understanding so far... and a question for help.

Okay I think I understand how to edit the font/color of text on Blog pages...
Open the CSS file, copy it then manualy change the hexadecimal code and paste it back where it was found. that about right?
So how do I change the rollover navigation fonts/colors? They're not CSS files, but rather .pgn or .pn something files.
If anything, can anyone point me in the right direction to learn about these other files?
haha... I just can't stand that insane RED font!!
thanks!

  • Sounds "sticking" in games and a question for Creat

    I'm not sure if this is the best place to do it but I'd like to kind of formally briing forward a bug in games that's not X-Fi dependent. I've had this happen with my Audigy 2 ZS and my Fatalty.
    I know this isn't anyone's fault but it's still quite annoying. Sometimes if a player near you starts shooting (usually it's shooting) then the server or he/she lags for a second, his/her gun will be stuck on firing. Till they die or change weapons or fire again, you have that sound looping constantly. At first I thought this was only in BF2 and a bug in the game. However, after playing FEAR online more now, I've had this happen several times. Although it's rare, it is a pain. Sometimes if you ask the player to fire their gun again they will other times they won't.
    My question for Creative is, would it be possible to have a "reset" command for the soundcards? Have it flash the RAM real quick or restart the sounds somehow? Just make it a hot key that players could push when it happens?

    I am pretty sure I have the same case.  The product description on Amazon says VTSO, but the metal tab actually says IVSO.  All of the ones I see look like they are probably the same or very similar case with a different name.  I bought the QuickShot cover, and it is OK, but it does nothing to protect the corners, which I consider very vulnerable spots.  The IVSO/VTSO provides all around coverage.  I don't think we are going to find anything much better.  If I do I will come back and post.

  • I give up! Can I send someone the ID CS3 file and print file for Help

    I have done everything I possibly can (given I am no where near expert), and can not figure this printing out.
    I have a food menu that is on 11 x 17 (will be tri fold) ID file with a border. The border is a "Placed" PSD file into a separate ID layer.
    Even though it looks perfect on the screen, I can not get it to print properly using an Epson Stylus 1400 series printer (wide body).
    The border does not print correctly.
    I can (and will if you want), print the menu to a file and send it to someone (along with the ID CS3 file and PSD file) to see if someone can tell me what stupid things I am doing.
    I also believe I can print to a file, then bring the printed file up on the screen and do a Snagit Screen Grab to upload to pixentral.com If this is possible, you will see how the border did not print correctly. I would also take a screen grab of the ID CS3 menu file so you can see how the border is perfect.
    I am hoping someone with a wide body printer can load 11 x 17 paper and try to see what I am doing wrong. I am printing it on 11 x 17, landscape, centered borderless stock and it looks good in preview mode.
    Any and all help would be appreciated. At least I don't have those OOLLM phantom lines like I did on my last plea for help.
    Bob

    Hmmm.
    Looking at the last picture, I see what is going to be a bit of a problem for you, I think. Do you really have a thin red line around the outside of the yellow border?
    Here's how bleeds work, and why they are set up the way they are. Printing, and more importantly, trimming, is done on mechanical equipment. Paper sizes may or may not be entirely uniform in a stack, or there may be minor alignment issues when jogging the stack, or there may be dust build-up, or any number of other little things that conspire to keep a stack of prints from being 100% perfectly aligned with each other, or a cutter setting may be off by a few thousandths of an inch making the trim larger than intended. In such cases there is a possibility that color intended to run all the way to the edge of the page may in fact stop short of the trimmed edge, leaving the paper showing.
    To hide this, and that's all you are doing, hiding misalignments, areas of color at the edge of the page are extended beyond the page boundary, typically 1/8" in the US, so that the excess color will fill what would otherwise be a blank area after trimming. InDesign Allows you to set up a "Bleed Area" in the document setup, which adds a colored guide around the page for easy reference, and also allows you to check the "use Bleed Area" checkbox in the print dialog so you don't need to specify it manually.
    Now for why that narrow red line is a problem, if it is really there. Printing presses typically can maintain sheet to sheet registration that is very accurate, but desktop printers are often off by as much as 1/16" in either direction from sheet to sheet. Further, there can be some paper stretching during the printing process, and the aforementioned dust build-up or slight errors in cutter setup, which can cause the paper to be trimmed slightly inside the intended mark. Also consider that if the paper is cut outside the mark on one edge, it will be cut the same distance inside on the opposite side.
    So, if you have a thin line on the edge of the page, you need to be very accurate in both sheet-to-sheet registration AND in cutter setup or you risk cutting off the line on one or two edges completely, and leaving more than you planned on the opposite edges. The thinner the border is, the greater the risk of cutting it off, and the more small differences in position will show. (The difference between 1/16 and 1/8 is much more obvious than the difference between 1/16 and 3/8 )
    As a corollary, jobs that bleed need to have a safe zone, or "live area" that is smaller than the page dimension by at least the amount of the bleed allowance all around so that trimming at the outside of the bleed on one edge doesn't end up cutting off something important on the opposite edge. The easiest way I can think of to visualize this is to think of trimming as if you were putting an open frame the finished size on top of the print, and you move it around so that the hole exposes more on one edge while hiding the opposite edge the same amount.

  • Help with simple OS upgrade and backup questions for a dumb old previous PC user...?

    Ok...have mercy on me, please...
    I am not completely dumb, I know typical board etiquette, and I have searched for various answers (and found many)...but I just want to confirm my personal "research" and get all of this clear up before I proceed with this insanity.  I know I could probably search more, but this is taking hours, because of all my various questions, one leads to 10 more...
    I have an iMac with Mac OS X Version 10.5.8 (which, though not mentioned anywhere?...is apparently "Leopard", right?  Told you I was dumb...)
    Processor:  3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    My main goal:  install an app that was in the Mac App store.
    However, with Leopard, I can't access the Mac App store with Leopard, apparently.
    I click on the Mac App store, and up pops up a Lion advertisement...telling me I should upgrade.  Ok, fine...probably a good idea, anyway...
    But how do you upgrade to Lion?  Apparently through the Mac App store!
    The web-redirects on the Apple site are amusing...taking me on an endless cycle...purchase Lion in the app store...click..."you need to upgrade to Lion"...OK...click..."you need Lion at the app store"...OK...click..."you need to upgrade to Lion to get to the app store"....etc.
    OK...fine...google searches...ahh, I need to upgrade to Snow Leopard first, apparently!  Yes?
    (Maybe the Apple redirects should detect that I have Leopard, and direct me to a screen that explains that I must upgrade to Snow Leopard...and then Lion!  Do you hear that, Apple?  Thanks.)
    Anyway...so here's my plan:
    1) Upgrade to Snow Leopard
    2) Access the Mac app store
    3) Upgrade to Lion
    Question A:  With my iMac (specs above), is it really advisable for me to do this?  Can my computer really handle Lion?  It seems I barely meet the minimum with my intel core 2 Duo and 2 GB ram...yes?  Is this a dumb idea, even if "OK"?  I know that "minimum requirements" on a PC often meant:  "Well, it will work...but it will be slower than a snail and crash if you run 5 programs at the same time" (which I usually do...)  I don't want to upgrade if the "minimum" is really not enough.
    Question B:  If the answer to A is "not a good idea", then  do I just need a new computer (i.e. better processor)?  Or do I need more Ram?  And can I add Ram to this computer, and is it relatively easy?  I have added Ram to PCs tons of times, and you always have to determine type of Ram for your board, make sure they "match", or whatever, and then open up the machine and install.  Kind of a pain, but once I have the "right" type of Ram, opening the CPU and installing is within my abilities.  Will it be harder for a Mac?
    = = =
    Next:
    When upgrading an OS on a Windows, you pretty much format the harddrive and start all over.  Back in the day I was a PC user, there wasn't really a "great" way to back up programs and files, so this was a nightmare.  You could NOT just back-up software.  You typically had to re-purchase and install it all from scratch.  Is this the same with Macs?  Furthermore, personal files were scattered all over the hard-drive for the individual software...so trying to back all that up to get it back on the new system = nightmare!  I hate PCs.
    Anyway...so, my iMac has Time Machine.  I am pretty ignorant about this, and based on my previous PC backup program nightmares, I have a distrust for it...and don't really understand how it works.  But in any event, my external drive crashed a few months ago, and I haven't replaced it, yet.  So, I am replacing it soon and will get Time Machine back up and running...setting it up again, etc...leading to question C...
    Question C: When upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard to Lion, what is the best way to ensure I keep all my programs and files.  My wife and I both access the computer, so two user accounts.  Does Time Machine really do a good job backing up everything and all things?  Is it just a matter of upgrade to Snow Leopard...then immediately to Lion...and then some sort of "Restore" from Time Machine?  Anything for me to "watch out for"...or to do when I buy a new external hard-drive and setup up Time Machine for the first time on it, in order to make this work well?  Will I have to re-install all the various applications I have installed on this thing?  (like with PCs?)
    Thanks for any sincere help.

    Apple has discontinued support for 10.5, it's a plaque of our platform that Apple only supports the last two operating systems in circulation.
    Where as on Windows you can run the same OS version for 10 years and get updates free (if not stolen), on a Mac we get one year, two tops now and if you don't upgrade and break all your third party software and hardware drivers in the process, then your denied security updates.
    On top of that, the OS X upgrades tend to break your older hardware too, or slow it down so much that it drives you to want to buy newer hardware.
    It's funny Apple places the AppStore on your OS X version along with iTunes and Safari updates, but then doens't supply necessary security updates, your machine may be compromised and here you enter vital credit card info, banking  etc. thinking you have a secure machine.
    My advice, since that's a 10.5 era Mac, is to upgrade to 10.6.3 via this disk, then use Software Update until clear. You'll get security updates and your present installed 10.5 software will work in 10.6 using Rosetta.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A
    Rosetta is not avaialble in 10.7 so it could be a lot of your software will no longer function
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
    I don't see the sense in you buying all new software for a machine that's at it's end of life stage.
    You can buy software in the AppStore with 10.6.
    Question A:  With my iMac (specs above), is it really advisable for me to do this?  Can my computer really handle Lion?  It seems I barely meet the minimum with my intel core 2 Duo and 2 GB ram...yes?
    You will need to buy 4GB of RAM to run Lion well, the 2GB is just a bare minimum, and your processor is a bit dated.
    Lion 10.7 is certainly slower than Snow Leopard 10.6, in fact so many wanted to go back to Snow Leopard and one of the resons was Lion was slow.
    So I wrote a User Tip, here, but the Tips were implemented only recently.

    RAM is easy, you can buy it at Otherworld Computing or Crucial.com and install it yourself, there is a little door under the monitor.
    Videos online at YouTube.

    Mac'soperaing system is seperate, it can be replaced or upgraded indepentantly of programs or user accounts on the machine.
    There are some programs that install a kernel extension file at boot into OS X, those get knocked out, but those can be replaced with a new install of the software.
    You should always backup your users files as those can't be repalced.
     Most commonly used backup methods explained
    Question C: When upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard to Lion, what is the best way to ensure I keep all my programs and files.
    OS X upgrades dont' affect User accounts but they can have a affect on programs installed, which most of your 10.5 programs likely will no longer work in 10.7
    However they will (with a slight update) work in 10.6 just like before.
    You need to backup regardless, I suggest a manual backup of users files to a storage drive, a 10.5 clone on another drive, the your ready to upgrade to 10.6
    10.5 to 10.6 upgrade is rather painless, also 10.6 gives accelerated video drivers, so your machine will appear faster.
    However once you install 10.7, you will slow down.
    Does Time Machine really do a good job backing up everything and all things?
    No, you shouldn't rely upon TM, have a multiple backup stragedy, TM files are hard to access directly.
    Is it just a matter of upgrade to Snow Leopard...then immediately to Lion...and then some sort of "Restore" from Time Machine?
    No need to restore, OS X upgrades and leaves everything else in place, just some programs (with 10.6) or a lot (with 10.7) when you try to launch them they will fail.
    Also when you connect TM it will do a substancial change to reflect the new boot drive.
    If you were using TM as a "storage drive" thinking you can use the archived versions later, that wil change upon the new OS X  upgrade.
    But in any event, my external drive crashed a few months ago, and I haven't replaced it, yet.  So, I am replacing it soon and will get Time Machine back up and running...setting it up again, etc...leading to question C..
    You need not only TM drive, but a bootable clone and user files on a storage drive.
     Most commonly used backup methods explained
    Will I have to re-install all the various applications I have installed on this thing?  (like with PCs?)
    No, depending upon what OS X version you stop at depends how many programs no longer work.
    You will have to buy a lot of new or upgrade versions with 10.7, not so with 10.6 only updates mostly because of Rosetta on 10.6 and not on 10.7
    My opinion, since that machine is a bit dated, is to upgrade to 10.6, Software update to 10.6.8, and stay there.
    Later on 10.8 is being released after this summer, you may want to consider getting a new machine with 10.8 a few months later to ensure all the bugs are worked out of it.
    Your not a comptuer savvy person, you like most Apple users expect your machine to "just work" I think going to 10.7 will be a bad experience for you.
    10.6.8 will server your needs until 10.8 is released and on new hardware where Apple will hold your hand for free for three months, 3 years with AppleCare.
    Your not a "OS X upgrader type of a person" and Apple needs to get of thier collective assets and pay better attention to it's most common users.

  • Thinkpad 8 covers & cases, and a question for Lenovo re: pricing

    Hi all,
    I recently bought a Thinkpad 8 and overall I'm very happy with it as I've had no issues so far. I've bought a cheap IVSO case from eBay for protection, but wondered if anyone had any leads on better quality ones out now or coming soon? The IVSO one is OK, but is bulky and none too light and when you've bought a slim, small computer for travel making it thick and heavy again is not really what you want to be doing.
    I'd ideally like a quickshot cover, but Lenovo's UK pricing of £55 compared to $35 in the US is absolutely outrageous. It's actually cheaper to buy one from Amazon in Germany for 62 euros and import it. In fact, it's nearly £15 cheaper to buy one from a business seller on eBay in the US AND pay import customs charges and delivery!
    I'm used to paying a bit more in the UK but this is a straightforward and very blatant rip off. Would anyone from Lenovo care to comment on whether the price will be coming down to be more in line with at the very least the rest of Europe, let alone the US?

    I am pretty sure I have the same case.  The product description on Amazon says VTSO, but the metal tab actually says IVSO.  All of the ones I see look like they are probably the same or very similar case with a different name.  I bought the QuickShot cover, and it is OK, but it does nothing to protect the corners, which I consider very vulnerable spots.  The IVSO/VTSO provides all around coverage.  I don't think we are going to find anything much better.  If I do I will come back and post.

  • Desktop and documents question for Lion

    is there a way to set certain word documents to open on a designated desktop without them appearing on other designated desktops.
    for instance:
    I have 2 desktops:  One for play and one for work
    I would like to assign certain word documents to my work desktop but
    not have them appear on my play desktop.
    Thanks So Much

    i did assign it to open on my work desktop
    but when i toggle back to my play desktop
    word is open on my play desktop also because there is a little light on underneath the word icon on both desktops
    I only want the app to be active on my work desktop
    so my question was is there a configuration to achieve this...?

  • Serial Number/Manufacture and Refurb Question for iphone 5

    I searched this site (and others) and couldn't find an answer for my specific serial number question so here it goes...I am selling my unlocked ATT iPhone 5 and as part of my sale, I would like to give the buyer the most information possible on my phone. I just got the phone 3 weeks ago from Apple as a replacement for the broken power button on my original phone since I was under warranty with Apple Care. I was trying to determine when the phone was manufactured and if it's refurbished so I went to the Chipmunk site that was suggested in many forums. http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html
    Based on 4 being the third number in my serial number, it's saying that it was manufactured in 2014, is that possible for an iPhone 5?
    I also received this piece of information from the report in Chipmunk:
    Factory: FF (Refurbished?)
    I'm thrown off by the "(Refurbished?)" part. What does FF mean, it's the first two letters in my serial number?
    THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

    Any iPhone or iPad charger should work with the iPhone 5.  There is something wrong with your charger.  If it is the one that came with the phone it is covered by the phone's warrantee.

  • Understanding JavaFx, Flex, and Openlaszlo offerings for RIAs

    I'm interested in improving certain aspects of my UI and I recently stumbled upon javafx/flex/openlaszlo (OL). I'd like to understand:
    1. What is needed to develop & deploy javafx. Does it have "gotchas" like Flex, where the sdk is open source, but development and deployment tools are proprietary?
    2. How easy is javafx to pickup?
    3. Specifically, I'd like to use javafx ( or flex/OL) to either augment or replace an editable table I created using js, ajax, html, and css. Is this the type of thing javafx can/should be used for? Are there any drawbacks or pitfalls to using javafx for this rather than straight js, ajax, html, css?
    4. How does javafx compare to flex/OL (as this is a java forum, I do understand that people may not have used flex/OL; but any subjective/objective feedback is helpful)?
    Thanks.

    Does it have "gotchas" like Flex, where the sdk is open source, but development and deployment tools are proprietary?Currently, yes... Only the compiler is open source, the runtime is currently closed. Although it isn't unreasonable to think it might be (at least partially) opened in the future, once it is stabilized.
    Development: can be done with a simple editor and the compiler, and deployment with the command line utility. That's what I use. You can also use NetBeans (open source, decent support of JavaFX) or Eclipse (open source also, support of JFX is a bit lacking, from what I know).
    2. The base is quite easy. You have to forget some habits (from Java in general), you have to know some workarounds, but basically it isn't really hard to learn.
    3. Table support is currently light, it is planned to be more comprehensive. Currently, you can use a number of third party table components. Or if you don't care about mobile phone support, you can still use Swing components.

  • IDVD and iMovie question for a TV viewing

    I just created a 15 min movie for a friends fathers memorial that is tomorrow (sorry about the late request but no way around this one). I saved the iMovie to an m4v format. I opened this up in iDVD hoping to pick a format that she will be able to download (through yousendit), burn to a DVD and then play through a TV/DVD player. No idea what either the TV/DVD player is (format, or if its new or old??). Anyway, is there a generic format from iDVD that might work best? I am not familiar with the movie/dvd programs but work with the graphic programs daily. The format I sent her is .img and .m4v. Will these work? Didn't really see many options for saving to different formats.
    Thanks in advance.

    If you create a disk image file (.img) out of iDVD (an option under FILE) and send it to her she can use Apple's Disk Utility (or Roxio's Toast) to burn the .img file to writable media.

  • Flex AdvancedDataGrid - ColumnOrder With Formatter and ItemRenderer Question For Experts

    I have a advanceddatagrid that has around 15 columns. Some are string,
    some are numbers. I have shown 4 columns below.
    The number columns have formatting done for zero precision and 2
    digits precision.  The itemRenderer is just to show Blue Color if the
    number is +ve and Red Color if the number is -ve.
    It looks something like below
    <mx:columns>
    <mx:AdvancedDataGridColumn dataField="Name" textAlign"left"/>
    <mx:AdvancedDataGridColumn dataField="Time" textAlign="right"/>
    <mx:AdvancedDataGridColumn dataField="Score" textAlign="right"  formatter="{zeroPrecisionFormatter}" sortable="true"   itemRenderer="ColorRenderer" />
    <mx:AdvancedDataGridColumn dataField="Average" textAlign="right" headerWordWrap="true" formatter="{twoPrecisionFormatter}" itemRenderer="ColorRenderer" />
    I am trying to save the users setting of column order  when he closes
    the application and reload with the same order when the user opens the
    applications. I am using SharedObjects and below is the code.
    for(var i:int=0; i< adgrid.columns.length;i++){
         var columnObject:Object = new Object();
         columnObject.columnDataField = adgrid.columns[i].dataField as String;
         columnObject.columnHeader =adgrid.columns[i].headerText as String;
         columnObject.width = adgrid.columns[i].width;
         columnArray.push(columnObject);
    and then I save the columnArray to SharedObject.
    I retrive them using the below code
    for(var i:int=0;i<columnArray.length;i++){
        adgrid.columns[i].dataField =columnArray[i].columnDataField;
        adgrid.columns[i].headerText =columnArray[i].columnHeader;
        adgrid.columns[i].width = columnArray[i].width;
    How can I save and reload the Formatter and ItemRenderer data .
    I am having trouble saving the formatter and itemrenderer and
    reloading it again.
    I would really appreciate if you can shown the code.
    How can I reshuffle the columns but can preserve all the properties of it to though  sharedobject and recover it again

    I would bypass the DataGrid all together.  Using the DataGrid , you have to mess with itemrenderers and indexes ... not
    very fun when one can avoid it.  Instead , I would do my calculations off of the dataprovider.  Then it becomes an elementary exercise of a for-loop and [Bindable] values.

  • Please help me with this urgent viewing and editing question for a long video clip.

    Hi, I have never used this software before and when I imported a 2 hours and 12 minute video clip of my sister's wedding into the system and added it as one sequence into the program it would only allow me to watch and edit the first 2 minutes.
    Why is that and how can I rectify this so that I can watch and edit the whole clip?
    Also, can such a long video clip be edited by trimming it and creating transitions where I see fit?
    Thanks so much for your advice as I am feeling really stuck right now.
    Becky
