How can you tell the difference between a genuine Apple lead and the cheap, or sometimes not so cheap imitations? I spoke with two people at Apple Support - one said that it has Designed in California Made in China and the serial number stamped on it, and the other said it didn't. Bought a brand new sealed MBP off ebay but it has build defects, will Apple replace?
I recently bought a brand new sealed macbook pro from ebay from a top rated seller for £835 which was a good price considering it is was sealed etc. When I opened the box and took a real close look at the machine I noticed a few serious build faults.....
1. This is the most serious, when the laptop is closed the left side of the laptop is noticeably bent as if its been molded wrong or something, there are no impact marks whatsoever.
2. The track pad is supposed to be flush but mine dips slightly on the left side which is evident when you look closely and run your finger around the edge of the track pad.
3. There are two small scratches on the right side of the macbook.
4. The bottom plate is also supposed to be completely flush with the case but like the track pad mine is defective, it is flush on the right but not on the left.
One of the main reasons I went for a mbp is because of the reputation for quality, I bought this laptop from a reputable seller who has a very high feedback score and multiple comments from happy users who bought the same laptop I did, so I definitely know he was not selling faulty stock.
I rang Apple today and they said that they could not offer me a replacement as I bought it from a third party but they made an appointment at a store for tomorrow...
My question is .... do these defects fall under poor workmanship from Apple and should I be entitled to a replacement. The laptop was literally brand new and the warranty on it was registered on the 16th april by me on the day I received it..... I emailed the seller who then rang me within 20 minutes and he advised me to take it to an apple store and they will replace it as its not something that can be repaired. Please give me some advice. All advice is welcome.
Thank you for readingFirst of all, if you would have bought that from Apple, you would have got a replacement right away--no questions asked. I just bought a new MacBook Pro and could have got it cheaper off eBay too, but i didn't want to go though a hassle like you are now.
Apple will repair it. The only way they will replace it, is if they can't get it fixed after 3 repair attempt. Keep all your case numbers. If for any reason you are not satisfied in the end, call Apple Customer Relations and deal with them--not support. Good luck!

The charger takes a usb cable, so I figure I could just plug in my usb to lightning cable and charge using my Saitek charger. Does anyone know if this works?
Did you get this to work? Mine did not work when I plugged it into my at&t iphone car charger usb port.

Recent upgrader to iPhone 6. I have a mid-'09 Macbook Pro running OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion and I'm seeking to transfer video I just shot on my iPhone 6 to my Macbook Pro. They are large files so I need to transfer via USB-to-Lightning cable as I don't have wi-fi capability to do the upload. However I can't access the iPhone 6 as a storage device through finder or image capture and can't figure out another way to transfer the files non-wirelessly. Any suggestions? The supplied cable is 1 meter. Slightly more than 3 ft. You can also order an Apple 2 meter cable. But most of us use a light extension cord. It's less expensive and they can be purchased almost anywhere.

I'm using a Rocketfish USB to Lightning cable for powering my IPAD2. But when I plug it in the battery icon beeps and comes on then goes off...then goes on...then goes...all beeping every time. Its as if its being unplugged and plugged in over and over. It won't stop...and its not charging....just beeping. I've check connections. Any ideas?
- While charging try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Next try restoring the iPod via iTunes. First from backup and if still problem restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
- However, I really think that the iPod has a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. If defective Apple should give you a refurbished iPod. -

My lightning to usb charging wire is breaking, will apple replace it as it is general ware or do I need to pay for a new one? The wire came with my Iphone 5 and I have had it since the release date.
I agree with you that Apple should cover it, and that if they're initially unwilling to, then a complaint should be raised. However, the poster remarked that he went to an Apple store, Apple diagnosed the problem as being faulty RAM, and then the poster said that he has to pay $200 for "a new one" (new RAM, I presume). No matter what you or I say on here, if the representative that the poster spoke to brought up a $200 charge, then what is he going to do? "Some users on the internet told me it should be free, so I'm not going to pay that - just fix it for free"?
Or maybe I'm having trouble following what happened. It seems to me that if the poster went to an Apple store and had a system that was within warranty, if Apple found a problem, they would replace it for free. In that case, where did the poster get the number for the $200 charge, and why is it even necessary to ask if it's covered? Either he encountered an Apple Genius who didn't handle the case properly, or there's more to the story that he's not revealing (water damage, or so on). -
Will Apple replace my frayed iPad USB cord if my warranty is still active?
My iPad USB cable is frayed and does not charge my iPad. It does charge my iPhone 4 fine, but when I plug it into my iPad it says "Not Charging" in the status bar. My warranty is still good, so will Apple replace the cord? Anyone experience this problem?
Take it to your local Apple retailer to ask. I believe they will replace it for you.

Recovery Media Creation to USB fails: "CD Creator has stopped working"
Bought new HP desktop system this week. Came with Windows 8, upgraded to 8.1 and then tried to create recovery media onto a USB stick. Followed all the steps in the HP Support article (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c03481733) but at point 9 the copying files stage doesn't complete (progress never gets off 0%) and instead a pop up error message appears saying "CD Creator has stopped working". The only option is to cancel. What should I do next?
Harvec, welcome to the forum. When requesting help you should always include the make/model of the computer and/or monitor. This information is necessary for us to review the specifications of them. I believe that you should have made the System Recovery Discs before updating to Win 8.1. The Discs are made using the OS that came on the computer when it is new. The only thing that you can do at this point is order the Discs from HP.

You could get a keyboard remapping program & map someother key to the volumn key.

SinceI have loaded the update, 5.1.1 my TIme Warner cable has stopped working. It gets stuck at launch all I see is the logo of TWC. I have reinstalled it, rebooted my IPAD.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
