My user name place disappeared

i tried copying my place "user name" to an external drive and it went poof. Where did it go?

Do not worry. It's not gone. You just removed the link from Finder side bar.
Open a new Finder window, navigate from your internal hard drive through the Users folder.
You'll see your home folder. Drag it to the Finder side bar.

I have access to all of the user names on my Macbook, including one of the Admin accounts, that is my wife's. BUT I can't fine mine ANYWHERE. It seems like it all started when I started to clean up my "Startup disk" and deleted just the basic apps I KNOW weren't Mac related.(Like Dropbox, Tom Tom, Google Drive, etc)
I did surf and find and tried Ctrl+S but I'm a little confused on WHEN to enter this option, I tried doing it when restarting it, AND when it powered back up. Notthing.
maybe I'm doing something wrong.
So to recap
I CAN access my Macbook, but ONLY with other user accounts NOT MY OWN AND CAN'T ACCESS ANY OF MY FILES.

You might consider upgrading the RAM. 1GB is the bare minimum to run Mac OS X 10.6.8. See this page for RAM information for your Mac: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook/specs/macbook-core-2-duo-2.16-whit e-13-mid-2007-specs.html.
You are also running low on free disk space, so consider moving files over to an external drive or delete files you no longer need.
Also, please explain what "done other maintenance" involves.

Fast User names/menu disappear from menu bar

When I activate fast user switching, the name in the menu bar seems to disappear. Then when I go to Prefs to reactivate it (by unchecking then checking it again) it displays over the top of the Airport and Volume icons, at which time if I click it then to use it, it disappears completely again. The only way I seem to eb able to use FSW is to go back to login window with user list displayed and do it that way (hassle).

This could be a corrupt preference file, specifically 'systemuiserver.plist'. But there are potentially two of them, so ...
In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences", delete com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences/ByHost", delete com.apple.systemuiserver.xxx.plist where 'xxx' is a 12 digit (hexadecimal) numeric string.
Then log out and back in again. You may need to go to System Preferences to put back the menu items you need to display.
If this alone doesn't work, you may need to delete your caches, so repeat the above and then:
In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Caches", delete everything

Finally went to the Apple shop where a nice young man explained that I had to use the original password not the recently changed password - case sensitive too - and finally have installed the updated Adobe Flash player with no shaking! Maybe this helps you too. JL

Disappearing User Name and/or Password

This issue started in 10.5.2 and continues in 10.5.3 after using the combo updater. Many times when i wake my computer or cold/hot boot it, i type my user name in and then try to type in the password in to the password area and WHILE i am typing in the password the user name disappears! I cannot even figure out where to begin to solve this. I tried using Onyx to delete the caches and delete the DS store files but it didn't help. Any suggestions on where to start?

But to help you the default is USERNAME is left blank and PASSWORD is admin
And if that doesnt work using a toothpick or pen tip, press and hold the reset button on the back of the roter for 30 seconds to reset everything back to default.

I downloaded itunes 10.5. During install I get a message that states the file cannot be located because it is on a network resource that is unavailable. I tried to locate the file,but cannot find the apps file under my user name or any other place

you need to specify the database when you exec. the commands.
ALTER DATABASE database_name SET ENCRYPTION OFF --> user database.
DROP DATABASE ENCRYPTION KEY --> user database.
DROP CERTIFICATE certificate_name --> master database
DROP MASTER KEY --> master database.

Do you know how to place "enter by user name" to initial screen of fb03?

When we enter fb03 display finance document, and click "header" button, I can see the "entery by username". But we want the "enter by name" display in the initial screen of fb03.
Is anyone can suggest how to make it?

Hi,
In FB03, first you need to navigate to the Document list and from there you can choose the use name in the dynamic selection. The user name will not come in the initial screen of FB03.
Alternatively, you can create a selection screen program which will have use name on the selection screen alongwith other fields and then pass on this selection details to the program RFBUEB00 selection data. Your ABAPer can do it for you.

User name disappeared

While reorganising the files structure on my new Mac Pro, I inadvertently removed my own (main) user name under 'users'. How can I get it back where it belongs? (I can still see it when I click on 'users' in Finder, but it does not appear in the basic structure, under 'shared', anymore).

iTunes and iCloud and different accounts, you will need to delete both accounts from your device before adding the new details in their place.
For iCloud go to settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit the delete button. You can then sign back in using your correct details. For iTunes go to settings >store, tap your account ID and then sign out, you can then sign back in using your correct Apple ID.

About ~20 hours later, this ended up solving itself. We can send email using the '.icloud' email from both the iPad and iPhone. Advise would be 'wait' before you start seeking alteranatives like yahoo, hotmail, etc. This definitely is a convenient way to keep all your 'cloud' information in a centralized place, including the common email...

My husband and I have the same user names and password for our iPads 4and iPhones. When one of downloads onto a device, it goes to both devices. Also, he gets my reminders. I want to keep the user name and password and he will then get his ow ones. How do we go about doing this?

He should go to http://appleid.apple.com and create a new ID - it's best to have a non-Apple address to do this with but it must be one that hasn't been previously associateds with an Apple ID. A free one from GMail or Yahoo would do.
He should then sign out in System Preferences>iCloud, whereupon all the contact, calendar and Mail data from your iCloud account will disappear. He can then sign in with the new ID and create a separate account. He can share some of your data if he wants to by signing in with your account in System Preferences>Mail, Contacts and Calendars and checking just that sort of data there.
None of this affect iTunes Store purchases. He will need to sign out in the iTunes Store (click the name at left of the black toolbar and choose 'Sign out' and then sign in with his new ID. However if he has made app purchases on your ID he will not be able to update them, or view films: you can't move purchases from one account to another and you can't keep changing the sign-in to the Store either. It's quite possible for him to retain your ID in iTunes but have his own in iCloud as the two are not connected.

User Names how to delete one

I am using a IMAC with OS10.4.10. I transfered my files, etc. from my G4 to the IMAC using a the firewire ports. Had some minor problems but got it all transfered. My problem is that I now have two user names, "Fred" and "Fred Holmes". The Holmes user opens the IMAC files, with some of the transfered files has to be access using "Fred". I have tried to set up the shared files under "Fred Holmes", sometimes works, sometimes not. On the screen I have MACINTOSH HD in the upper right hand position. When I shut down and log on, I have to select either "Fred" or "Fred Holmes", the "Fred" takes me to the OS9 system from the G4. Must I keep the "Fred" user or is there a way to put those files with "Fred Holmes" and delete the "Fred" user? Any information no matter how basic it is, would be helpful, as I am not one of the best computer knowledgeable person.

Would it be the other way around? I want to keep the "Fred Holmes" files as they are the ones associated with the new IMAC, the "Fred" files appears to be the files that were moved from the G4. If I delete one of the files, do I still need the shared files?
Also, Kappy what should be in the applications file? And where should the files be such as Quicken, Family Reunion, etc. At the present time I find them all over the place. Thanks

How to get Current Log in BO user name in data access driver

In universe, to get the current log in user is via @Variable('BOUSER').
Right now, I need to be able to get the user name in the data access driver. I am writing a customized data access driver because we need to patch some where clause on the the query generated by the universe based on the logged-in user info. I only think of using end_sql parameter or adding an universe level filter to patch the @Variable('BOUSER') to the query, which would not work if user want to use customized query.
Can anyone tell me how to get currentBO user name from connection server ? or how @Variable('BOUSER') is translated into the logged-in user name in the universe?

I'm not sure if this info helps out either, being that connection provides info on a post-processing basis and it sounds like you need to get out ahead of the SQL generation. The @variable('bouser') would seem like the place to be, however, in allowing custom SQL to take place you loose the bouser due to an individual could customize the SQL to the point that it gets unwantingly yanked out. The end_sql might be your answer...

I'm trying to access a forum that requires a user name and password. When I do it on my mac it tells me the password is incorrect but when I do it on my iPad, I can access it without any problem. I can confirm the username and password are the same

I am trying to access a forum for which you need a username and password but it keeps telling me the username/password i've entered are incorrect. Bizarrely, when I enter the same username/password combination on my iPad, it grants access without any problem.
What could be causing this, is it an issue with cookies, caches or similar. How can I resolve it? The forum administrator is at a loss as to what the problem is.

Try the following steps in Safari to see if they help:
1) First try clearing the Safari cache. To do this pull down the Safari menu and select 'Empty cache...', then try logging into the site again.
2) If the issue continues then reset Safari by pulling down the Safari menu and select'Reset Safari...'. You will be presented with a list of items that can be reset. I suggest selecting the 'Reset saved names and passwords', and 'Remove all website data' options at a minimum.
Here is a list of the options and what they do. I pulled it from the Safari help page.
Clear history:
Clears the list of webpages you viewed.
Reset Top Sites:
Clears any changes you made to Top Sites, such as adding or pinning sites. If you also clear your history, your Top Sites page reverts to showing the webpage previews displayed when you first installed Safari.
Remove all webpage preview images:
Clears any thumbnail images Safari saved of webpages you viewed.
Clear the Downloads window:
Clears the list of files you downloaded from websites. Only the names are removed; the files themselves are still on your disk until you remove them.

Removes website icons, which are small graphics that help identify sites on the Internet. You see them in the Safari address field and bookmarks list, and other places. These icons are stored on your computer.
Remove saved names and passwords:

HT3231 I ended up having to create a new user name because the migration assistant wouldn't let me put the data back onto my original user name. I now have to log into the new user name to see all my data, apps, photographs etc. What went wrong?

I have a Mac that was part of the recall involved with the faulty Seagate hard drives. The folks at the Apple Store near me changed the hard drive early December, 2012. I had my data, etc. all backed up on a portable hard drive. When the Mac was returned with the new hard drive, I used the Migration Assistant to bring everything back over. Trouble was, it wouldn't let me bring it over to my original user name. I was forced to create a new user name that became the place where everything was restored. I can't see any data on my old user name, just the basics. Everything is on the new user name but I wish I didn't have it (just want everything back the way it was originally). Any suggestions?

Probably the cleanest thing to do is to erase and freshly install the operating system on the new drive. Then, on the first boot up, don't create a new user, instead select the option in Setup Assistant to immediately bring things over from your backup, which you must connect via USB or firewire. Setup Assistant will then recretae your old user to look just like it used to.
Before doing this, make sure you realize you will lose everything on the new drive by erasing it, and make sure your backup is still viable.
