My v3753au (32bit win7) bios cannot detect internal dvdrom & hard to detect internal hdd?

hi...
my v3753au is wonderfully running on 32 bit win7.  lately the bios cannot detect the internal dvdrom & kinda hard to detect (longer than usual) the internal hdd during startup.  i've tried with the other dvdrom & it's still the same.  however, the one that i used is still ok on other laptop.  fyi, i've tried with the original f.15 version as well as the latest f.28 version but both let me down.  when win7 runs, dvdrom doesn't appear either in win explorer or device manager.  i've also checked the registry for that filter thing but it isn't there.  any suggestions of what should i try next?
tq for the help...

> I couldn't reinstall/recover new system from CD cos Win7 couldn't detect any drive while installing.
Its no matter if the SATA mode is set to AHCI or compatible mode. The HDD should be recognized by BIOS even if the AHCI mode has been selected.
At the first BIOS page the HDD should be listed with the name and size.
If it isnt the case, it could be possible that your HDD controller is faulty.
What HDD did you purchase exactly? Is it a 2.5 SATA HDD?

  • Disk utility restore problem: cannot drag internal hdd to destination field

I'm currently trying to restore a time machine backup after my boot ssd recently failed, but am having trouble restoring the backup to my secondary internal drive in the optical bay. My set up isthe following:
Failed ssd in primary hdd  bay of MacBook Pro (mid 2010)
1tb secondary  hdd in optical drive bay with time machine backup of failed ssd.
    2tb external drive
The following is what I have done so far...
    1. Booted into the secondary internal drive and restored the time machine backup onto the external USB drive.
    2. Booted from the restored backup on the USB drive (this now looks like my old computer again but is very slow as its USB 2.0)
    3. Partitioned the secondary internal drive in the optical bay.
    4. Now I want to copy the restored volume on my USB drive to the secondary internal drive in the optical bay.
When I open disk utility's restore function I can put my original volum in the source field, however, it will not let me put either partition of my internal drive in the destination field. It has no problem putting other partitions from the USB drive in the destination field - just will not allow anything from the internal drive. Why is this?
I'm thinking it could possibly be because it is in the optical drive bay and apple has prevented copying full volumes into this bay, but then again surely this would be needed when burning DVDs at some stage. Any ideas? Many thanks in advance for any help.

I managed to complete the restore and you may have been right - I booted from the internal hdd then restored the time machine backup stored on the usb drive to a different partition on the internal hd. Seemed to work fine now running of the hd in the optical drive bay but has still crashed a couple of times which is pretty odd. Perhaps the failed ssd in the main drive bay is still causing a bit of a nuisance (it registers for the first 3 minutes after booting up then disappears). Also didnt notice the responsiveness too much when upgrading from hd to ssd, but going the other way back to hd - can definitely now tell the difference. Painfully slow at times! I need to get that ssd replaced I think.  Anyway thanks for your advice!

If you've replaced the mainboard, and have an existing Windows installation on this drive, then you'll need to do a fresh install of Windows, or at least a repair install.

  • Cannot install Windows to internal HDD on dm4t laptop (HDD is working, but not recognized in BIOS)

    Hi All,
I have an issue with the internal SATA HDD in my Pavilion dm4t laptop (PR #: XQ1313AAR). The drive is working, when connecting via external USB enclosure is recognized by the PC, can read/write data, format partitions etc… When plugged in as internal HDD of the laptop, BIOS does not recognize it. When booting from Windows Installation Disk, the drive (and its partitions) are recognized, but I get the following message when trying to select a partition to proceed with Windows install:
Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer’s hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk’s controller is enabled in the computer’s BIOS menu.
Used external USB enclosure again, connected to a working PC and using TestDisk, I deleted the partition table (by zero writing it several times), then created a new MBR. When connecting back as internal drive, it is now recognized by BIOS and in the Windows installation screen, I can actually select a partition on the drive to install Windows on; the installation actually runs, but as soon as I get to the point of having to restart the PC during the installation process, upon restart the drive is not recognized anymore…
When I remove it, and repeat the same steps with TestDisk, it once again works, can start Windows installation, but it fails upon restart.
I have already read numerous forums on the topic, have tried various drive utilities. I also saw in one of the forums a suggestion to enable AHCI for the SATA controller, but the laptop BIOS is extremely limited and does not have that option.
Please help!!! Have been without a working laptop for several weeks and is driving me crazy. Saving any data on the drive is not needed – I have recovered all data from it that I need. So my only objective is to restore the harddrive to fully working state and be able to install OS on it (Windows 7, 64-bit)! Thanks in advance for any help!

  • HELP! iTunes Cannot Detect iPhone~

i am using Windows Vista with my 1.1.2 iPhone & iTunes 7.5
iTunes cannot detect my iPhone when i plug it via the USB cable to my computer, while Vista can detect it and i can access the photos inside iPhone with the link my computer\Apple iPhone\Internal Storage\DCIM\100APPLE.
the interesting fact is that when i turn off the "program control" (a function in my firewall, ZoneAlarm). iTunes can then detect the iPhone can they can sync(ringtones, music, contacts successfully get into iphone)!
if i switch on the "prgram control" in zonealarm after they sync, disconnect iphone and reconnect it, an error message will be shown, something like "iTunes cannot connect to iPhone [^2], unknown error (0xE8000001)"
if you know what happening, please HELP!!!
    thanks for your time!!!

Obviously it's an issue with ZoneAlarm. Why not contact their support or post on their forums? May be a common problem. Or maybe look for a different firewall/security software.

I bought and installed a MSI P67A-GD55 B3, very happy about it, all perfect, with the exception that it  cannot detect the Solid State Drive (OCZ SATA II --> Vertex 2).

Did you try going to the bios and going to onboard chipset for sata  and put in AHCI mode for sat type. This has to be done for the SSD Drive to respond. Hope this helps
Not true, a working SSD will be identified by the BIOS regardless of what mode the SATA controller is set to.

When I try to install ServerGuide 9.41 (win 2008 r2), I receive the following message:

Even if I attempt to install directly from the Windows 2008 R2 media, it cannot detect hard drives.

Try using a more recent version of ServerGuide. Lenovo version 10 is the current release. IBM version 9.63 is the next release.

  • Mediashield BIOS hangs Detecting Array

    Apologies for the long post...
My mobo (MSI P7N Diamond 780i SLI / 570i SLI)
The SATA drives are organised thus..
    SATA 1 - OCZ Vertex - Windows 7 Home (64bit) Retail version
    SATA 2 - Data HD
    SATA 3 - Mirror A
    SATA 4 - Mirror B
    SATA 5 - Mirror A
    SATA 6 - Mirror B
    more system details below...
I had the system working reasonable well apart from a flip/flop array dead/alive problem that was really weird. See... https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=132584.0.
In an attempt to get to the bottom of this problem I decided to install a new dual boot copy of Win 7 on SATA 2. I did this to see if a new install of Windows without my applications showed the same problem.
On advice from the Win 7 forum, to ensure no corruption during the Win 7 install, I removed the SATA 3/4/5/6 cables from the drives. I then installed the new Win 7 and the latest nVidia raid driver on SATA 2.
Then I reconnected the SATA 3/4/5/6 cables.
Booted into the old Win 7 twice - the flip/flop problem still existed there. And then booted into the new Win 7. This showed the erring condition "array dead", but otherwise it worked ok. I restarted the new Win 7 expecting the flip/flop problem to show up, however, I never got into Windows.
The system hung during the MediaShield BIOS with detecting array.
The only way I could get it to boot, to get into the BIOS or Windows, was to remove all cables from SATA3/4/5/6.
If I set the RAID mode to IDE, or disable the drives from RAID mode in the BIOS, I can restart with the cables attached. In windows explorer two of the array drives show up - one from each array. The other two drives show up in the Disk Manager apparently without a file system on them :-(
I have had this problem before and I found the only way to fix it was to run Darik's Nuke & Boot on the drives. Repartitioning them and reformatting did not get rid of the hang condition. I never did understand what was left on the drive after repartitioning/formatting that upset MediaShield.
Does anyone have any advice on what I can do to narrow down to understand what is causing this to happen.
BTW - This hardware has been running just fine for ages on XP. I have been trying to get a stable Win 7 setup for weeks now.

    I'm glad I could help!
To complete the answer on whether it's a bug or not, it has to do with your BIOS expecting Windows rather than Linux.  So you need to tell it that Linux is running and without the parameter, the kernel will return false if asked whether Linux is running.  This causes some features to just simply not work.
If adding that parameter makes the screen's backlight to not work, you may want to add "acpi_backlight=vendor" to it also, but it actually caused my computer to not boot and seemed to not make a difference (probably should have mentioned that).
