My video dims randomly for no reason - can't reset
I have an iMac G5 20" second generation... my problem is that my video display will randomly dim for no reason. In my settings, I do not allow it to go to sleep, display is not allowed to go to sleep, under options tab, Automatically reduce the brightness of the display before display sleep is NOT checked.
On the display tab, Brightness slider is all the way to full brightness.
Any ideas on what could be causing this?

This may sound like bad news but the only way to get past that passcode lock at this point is by doing a restore.... A recovery mode restored to be exact... http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 Restores are the only way to be able to get past passcode locks... The restore will get the iPad back in working order for you but if you don't have a back up you will lose the information that you currently have on it... At this point your devices isn't going to allow you to make a backup because of the passcode lock.... So hopefully you have a iCloud or in iTunes backup that was made before this happened...iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes....I actually had this exact same thing happened to me

So here's an interesting one...
I have just updated iOS on my iPhone and it came up with the activation prompt. I entered my iCloud email and password and it told me that my account was disabled for security purposes.
This happens quite regularly as my iCloud account and I constantly get the account locked out as other people mistake it for their account.
The procedure to unlock my account is to visit iforgot.apple.com and select the 'Reset your password' option, enter my iCloud email address, two-step recovery key and then nominate my iPhone to receive a two-step authentication code.
The problem is my phone won't receive the authentication code because it needs activation! My iPad is also listed but also won't receive the authentication code, I expect because my Apple ID is disabled!
Having read the support article regarding what to do when you can't receive the two-step authentication code it says login to your apple id account and manage the list of devices! You what!? I can't login because my account is disabled.
It seems there is a complete design flaw here in that I can't activate my phone without unlocking my Apple ID and I can't unlock my Apple ID without activating my iPhone first!
I've spoken to Apple in the past about this and their response was to login and manage my devices and I pointed out that I could not login in because my account is disabled. They then basically said there is nothing I can do! Really? They won't unlock my Apple ID because they don't have the ability to do so.
If I'm not mistaken my iPhone is no longer fit for propose and if I can't sort this I will be visiting the Apple store and asking for a replacement as basically my device is bricked. I guess I will have to create a new Apple ID and will no longer be able to get to my email on the old account!?
Any folks on here has similar issues or any suggestions?

I basically have a useless phone here because I restored the phone but supposedly when my son's father redid the phone years ago for our son he added the phone to HIS apple id (on find my phoen supposedly) which he no longer has nor uses. I need said apple id and pass to finish restoring the phone. Maybe we should all get together and pile all our bricks in front of apple headquarters so no one can get out of the building and they have to stay there until they fix this. :-P

I am not sure if this issue is going to help you but lets give it a try.
I know that where im from, which is the Netherlands, I am not able to sent e-mails from my iPhone or any other mobile device by using 3G or a random WIFI acces point. The provider only allowes you to sent e-mails when you are connected to a network of there own. Which means if you have provider "101" and your email settings are set up for this provider in your iPhone but your using the network of a friend of yours which is provider "202" you cannot sent emails from his network. Though you can receive them you may not sent.
As I said, I am not aware if this issue is the same for you totaly depents on the country and provider your using. -
I have a 13" macbook from 2009 and for some reason can no longer change my desktop image by just clicking on an image in system prererences>I-Photo. Does anyone know what the problem could be?
Your Desktop Picture settings and Dock items are stored in the files
/Users/your short user name/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist and
/Users/your short user name/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
in the "Preferences" folder in your user library. This looks like the system has trouble to write to these files. Check the permissions on your user library and remove the above files from your user library, then log off and on again.
Your user library is hidden in Lion and Mt. Lion. To reveal it, use the Finder's "Go" menu. Select "Go" in the Finder's main menu bar and hold down the alt/option key, until you see the "Library" in the drop-down menu. Double click it to open a Finder window, so you can browse the files inside.

You router has two passwords.
1) The router login password must be given to login to the router and see the router settings. The default password is "admin". If you changed the password and cannot remember it, the only option is to reset the router to factory defaults (using the reset button), then setup the router again from scratch.
2) The router also has an optional wireless encryption password. To find this password, login to your router, and click on the "Wireless" tab, "Wireless Security" sub tab. Here you will see your encryption method. Nearby you will see your "key" (sometimes called password or passphrase). If you want to reset your key to something different, you can change it here, then click the "Save Settings" button, and wait (3 to 60 seconds) for the screen to refresh. If you change your key in the router, you will need to change it on all your computers.
For WEP, enter WEP "key 1" (found in the router) into your computer, not the password or passphrase.
For WPA or WPA2, enter the key (sometimes called password or passphrase) into your computer.
Also note that if you are using WPA2 encryption, and if your computer is using Windows XP, then the computer will need to be upgraded to SP3 to do WPA2. Vista already supports WPA2.

IMac 20" 2007 display dims itself for no reason; "calibration" does not help
Using a 2007 white plastic iMac with 20" screen and 2 GHz Intel Core Duo, running OSX 10.6.8.
Has worked fine since being purchased many years ago.
Recently a user "did something" (she can't remember what) which immediately caused the screen to become a bit dimmer. Whatever action she took, it wasn't something complicated -- she just accidentally struck a single key or clicked on something in the main Finder window. She was not fooling around with System Preferences or anything like that.
Since that moment, I have not been able to successfully get the screen back to full brightness.
Obviously, I have tried pressing the "brighter" and "dimmer" keys on the keyboard, and those do make the brightness go up and down, but the top brightness setting is much dimmer than it used to be. All the way to brightest setting = still noticeably dimmer than normal.
And obviously I have tried using the "brightness" slider in the System Preferences > Displays > Display window. That also does indeed adjust the brightness up and down, but as with the keyboard brightness keys, the highest setting is still too dim.
Readjusting the "Calibration" in the System Preferences > Displays does not help, even when going into Expert mode and adjusting every little aspect of the screen display's default settings. Those all seem to be about color balance anyway, not about brightness. I now have three different new calibration settings, and clicking back and forth between them and the default setting makes no real noticeable difference. Whatever setting I choose, it is still dimmer than it should be, even though in all my attempts at calibration I tried to make it brighter.
Key detail: NEITHER THE SCREEN NOR THE BACKLIGHTING IS BROKEN OR DYSFUNCTIONAL
I know this is true because the following thing happens consistently:
When I put the computer to "sleep," and then wake it from sleep by pressing a random key or moving the mouse, the screen comes back on and momentarily it is at full brightness, but then "remembers" whatever mysterious settings it has, and then visibly dims itself.
So the screen has the physical capability of being fully bright -- it's just that some System setting is telling it to be dim.
Why? How can I change this? It is practically rendering the computer unusable. Help needed ASAP.Did you try running the computer from a copy/clone backup of the system?
How about a testing with second Admin user account? Or, secure erase &
a complete reinstall of the system from scratch? (With full backup in archive.)
Check to see if there is a weak or dead PRAM battery on logic board?
In your other similar thread, there were issues in replying to there based on
problems with this site. A different reply was botched, and lost, so there it
is. Then a followup didn't appear. But it may still, though not what I wanted.
There still can be a hardware problem, not matter what someone else may
have done with the settings while using the computer. Several builds of the
early 20-24" Intel-based iMac had various graphic issues. Hardware failure.
So that is unfortunate that even after significant time attempting to resolve
the issue or the symptom, you haven't gained much traction. The time may
have arrived to consider my suggestion to seek Apple trained specialists
in an AASP, to look into this matter from a diagnostic standpoint. And be
sure you have complete backup (clone, plus timemachine, etc) beforehand.

Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons. I reset password and it still says this.
Has anyone got advice on apple tv connection. Apple account disabled for security reasons. It said to reset account but all I was able to do was reset password which I did.

MikeYes on the setup-page for your emailaccount go to prenumerations and you probably have a box near INBOX that needs to be marked.
But depending how you get your email, if they are downloaded or if they are copied into your pc, you might get all your old emails back, INCLUDING your virus-email. This virus is most likely in an attachment so it woudn't infect your pc UNLESS you open it. Schred that file and never open any attachment by default -

I made this account awhile ago, but I just foud some apps I had purchased on my computer so I downloaded them onto my iPad, but they need to be updated and it asks for my prior account information which I do not know. Two Apple IDs, one for Icloud - But can't reset the password
I have 2 Apple IDs. (No ide how - but I do).
Account A I can access - but I can't set it up for iCloud
Account B - When I try to reset the password - it leads be back to account A
When I look at My iPhone - In the iCloud setting - it references the Account B address.
When I try to login to iCloud Desktop - If I try to get a new Password for account B, an email is sent to my account A email address, and all that I keep on doing is changing Account A's password. I tried to answer the security questions - which I did - but was told that my dog's name is not what my dog's name is!
ALL that I want to do is enable iCloud so that I can sync my contacts with outlook and iPhone. iTunes 11 does not permit you to do this without iCloud.
