  • Ipod refuses to sync music

i bought a new ipod like, early january or whatever, and it has been great up until recently, i hooked it up to my computer and it said there was a connection problem and it could not properly connect the my computer, so it said to go to the sttings menu in itunes, cuz somehow it still was connected in some way and restore it, so i did and it totally erased all my music and will now not let me put anymore on, but it still comes up with the message to restore the ipod, i have no idea whats going on with it...

    Hello there,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
If you are repeatedly being asked to restore your iPod via iTunes, your iPod's drive letter may need to be reassigned. For instructions on how to do this, see the Apple support document below. Hope it helps.

  • IPod Refuses To Sync Video

Hey, I have a 5th Generation iPod nano, roughly 8 gigs. I recently downloaded a video and iTunes is refusing to sync it. JUST that one video, I DO NOT need to convery the video, it's an .mp4. I can't figure out what's going on, it plays fine in iTunes, but when I try to sync it I get an error "Video cannot be synced because the iPod cannot play it" (paraphrased).
    Help?

Sounds like you are trying to sync HD version of the TV Shows to your iPod, which is not supported. You'll need to download and sync the SD version instead.  See here for more information.
iTunes: May be unable to transfer videos to iPhone, iPad, or iPod
To prevent HD versions from being downloaded in the future head to the iTunes Store, click the Purchased link, and then select TV Shows and remove the tick mark next to Download HD when available.  You should be able to download the SD version now from under this same page.

  • My iPod refuses to sync some music downloaded from iTunes because my computer is "not authorized", although I have authorized it.

I have recently got a new computer, and decided to transfer my iTunes from my iPod (for I had to delete my music off my father's iTunes to conserve memory). I copied the files from my iPod onto my new iTunes account. When I synced my iPod with my iTunes, it refused to sync some songs which  I had downloaded off iTunes onto my new iPod, for it says my computer is not authoraiazed, even though I have alredy authorized my computer. Wht should I do?

  • My ipod refuses to sync or download any music.

This has been going on for about 4 months now and I am getting really frustrated. I have clicked and unclicked every box in the itunes to ipod sync tab (from the "manually manage" box to the "Sync music" tab). When I try to download songs to my ipod using these methods, itunes will say "syncing with ipod" for a split second and stop; no music added and nothing happens to my ipod. I can dowload things fine off the itunes store on my ipod, but all of the music on my itunes is stuck. I went as far as to restore my ipod twice but nothing seems to work. everything is updated and the ipod is a 4th generation. I don't really know of any other info to give but if you need more just ask for specifics.
If someone could please help me I would be so greatful. Thanks.

hey thanks guys for helping an apple user out.... no it fine that I just wasted $200 on a product that magically stops working after the warenty runs out. its cool cause i have loads of money that I can just **** out my *** to buy more of your products. Thanks again!

  • HELP!!!! ipod refuses to sync!!!

I NEED HELP ok so my iPod Classic (160 gb) started acting up at around 9,000 songs. the album artwork get flipped, scrambled and deleted. (its fine in iTunes) ok thats sad but now a few month later my library has grown to 11,000. mainly friends contributed to it... and no viruses btw. anyway, iTunes REFUSES to sync my iPod. every single time i get an error code. the last time iTunes did sync some music, and videos but when it came time to unplug the iPod this is what happens: 1. the iPod displays the 'ok to disconnect' screen. once the progress bar gets to the end, it freaks. it shows this picture of a USB cord (i think) and reboots. it might have just been from the 'ok to disconnect' page while the screen is loosing power but idk. i have done the 5r's, reinstalled iTunes 3 times, and have no more ideas. please help, i am out of warrantee (?) and have no money to buy a new ipod. Can someone please help me? Thanks for reading. THANK YOU!

OK, if restoring isn't cutting it then let's start by checking the health of the drive...
*Check your iPod with Diagnostics Mode*
It's possible that your iPod's hard drive has started to fail. Take your iPod and place your right thumb on the centre SELECT button and your left on the top MENU button. Press down both thumbs for about 6 seconds until your iPod reboots. Immediately move your left thumb around to the rewind button |<< on the left and hold this down together with SELECT for a further 6 seconds. Your iPod should now switch into Diagnostic Boot mode. Press MENU for *Manual Test*, then select *IO > HardDrive > HDSMARTData* to reveal your stats. For comparison here are mine for my 2 year old 6th Generation Classic:
    Retracts: 889
    Reallocs: 12
    Pending Sectors: 0
    PowerOn Hours: 2202
    Start/Stops: 894
    Temp: Current 24c
    Temp: Min 10c
    Temp: Max 50c
Take a note of your results. When finished press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again.
With modern disc drives sectors are no longer marked bad by a disc scan, if the SMART firmware detects a sector it has trouble accessing it will attempt to invisibly reallocate it to a spare area of the disc.
Note that I've only 12 remapped sectors and none pending. To help explain what the numbers mean here is an extract from the Wikipedia S.M.A.R.T. article:
    *Reallocated Sectors Count*
Count of reallocated sectors. When the hard drive finds a read/write/verification error, it marks this sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area). This process is also known as remapping, and "reallocated" sectors are called remaps. This is why, on modern hard disks, "bad blocks" cannot be found while testing the surface – all bad blocks are hidden in reallocated sectors. However, as the number of reallocated sectors increases, the read/write speed tends to decrease. The raw value normally represents a count of the number of bad sectors that have been found and remapped. Thus, the higher the attribute value, the more sectors the drive has had to reallocate.
    *Pending sector count*
Number of "unstable" sectors (waiting to be remapped, because of read errors). If an unstable sector is subsequently written or read successfully, this value is decreased and the sector is not remapped. Read errors on a sector will not remap the sector (since it might be readable later); instead, the drive firmware remembers that the sector needs to be remapped, and remaps it the next time it's written.
Large numbers of Reallocs or Pending Sectors would suggest your drive is failing and that you may need to repair or replace your iPod. Check your stats after another attempt to update your iPod. If the numbers increase that again points to hard drive failure. While it won't be good news at least you'll know it isn't some random software problem and you can decide what to do next.
If the drive checks out OK then perhaps something else is interfering with communications between iTunes and the iPod. A few things to try out...
    - Change the the drive letter assigned to the iPod on connection.
    - Exclude the iPod's drive & the iTunes source folder from anti-virus scanning.
    - Check the health of the drive holding the media.
    - Try a different cable.
    - Try a different computer.

  • IPod 5 not syncing music

I've tried to sync music so many different ways, I've tried how you usually would do it through the music tab but it starts and stops right away. Then I tried to click and drop the songs but it won't let me. I originally got some songs onto it by using auto fill And it put music on the iPod but now that I've downloaded more music and was hoping to add it to my iPod, none of those are working, when I try to auto fill it now with music it says preparing to update files and then after two minutes it stops again. Help pls??

Assuming the songs play OK in iTunes on the computer:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • Ipod touch wont sync music after restore/update

i recently came back from the apple store after trying to update my ipod to 4.2 and running across many errors. finally, my ipod is working again however as it had to be restored i have to sync everything back onto it. The apps, photos and videos synced fine but when it tries to sync music, itunes freezes right away. it will say syncing whatever song and it just stops. First, the number of songs and what song it syncs first seems to change every time i sync it. Sometimes it says 1 of 1 sometimes 168 out of 168, when it should be at least over 500 songs. Second, after i let the computer with the frozen itunes sit for a while, it came up with 2 error messages; one saying the song could not be synced because of error -20 i think, the second saying the data couldn't be written onto the ipod and then it froze forever on the finishing syncing bar. i've tried restarting my computer, disconnecting the internet and disabling my firewall. itunes is up to date and so is the ipod obviously. we use ca security center. please help i just want to be able to use my ipod again

the ca security people fixed my problem and its syncing fine. if anyone else has problems syncing while running ca security post on this forum and they will pm you the solution

*i've reset the pod a bunch of times*
Have you tried "restoring" your iPod? Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to sync using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

  • IPhone 3G refuses to sync music

I have been unable to get any music onto my iPhone for the past week. I woke up one morning after leaving the iPhone plugged into my computer overnight to find that I had no music. When I plugged the phone in the night before everything was there as it should have been. I have tried restoring the iPhone multiple times. Deleted iTunes and reinstalled iTunes. Restarted my computer multiple times. I can play the music on my computer, so there is no issue there. I have also tried manually managing the iPhone, to no avail. Applications will sync but ringtones and music will not. I just started getting an error telling me that the iPhone could not be read or written to. I have taken the phone to the Genius Bar and they have successfully restored and uploaded music onto the phone. I'm completely perplexed.
It should be noted that I use an external drive for my iTunes folder. However, this hasn't effected me before this past week, at all. iTunes also now refuses to import music or play songs that I double click. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Since you seem busy or missed my question, I will just state my theory of what is happening.
You said you can play the songs but you didn't say if you are just going to the file to play or using iTunes.
I am going to assume you are not using iTunes to play the song. I am going to assume if you did try, iTunes is going to error on you saying it cannot find the file.
My theory is your external drive at some point recently got assigned a new drive letter. Thus to iTunes since it just stores pointers to files, it is looking at the old drive letter. Thus when you go to sync, it cannot find any of the files.
Go to iTunes and try to play a song that you are trying to sync. If iTunes errors saying it cannot find it, then I am right.
To fix, get your external drive drive letter set back to what it was before. Else you have to go to each song and either one by one tell it where the file is again, or remove all from your library and re-add them back so iTunes knows to update the pointers.
Drive letters can change under certain circumstances...example...you plug in drive and just accept the default drive it assigns. You later unplug and then at some point plug in a thumbdrive or card reader or something that thus gets the default drive letter and while still plugged in you pluged the external back in, thus it gets the next drive letter.
This theory will explain 1, why it won't sync to iPhone, 2, why it won't sync to iPod, 3, if your default library path in iTunes points to the old drive letter, it will explain why it doesn't auto import songs for you.

  • IPod Shuffle not syncing music

iTunes says that the iPod Shuffle is synced. I have selected a song to put on the iPod but I can not find the command to 'sync.'  I have tried selecting a song and dragging it to the iPod but when I disconnect the iPod Shuffle and pulg in the earphones, I get a message to use iTune to sync. What is the command or procedure to sync the music to the iPod so it will play?

You can load content onto a shuffle manually, using Autofill, or by setting up automatic syncing.  This document describles those methods.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1719
NOTE:  If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
When you select the shuffle in the sidebar, under DEVICES, you should see the Sync button at the lower right corner of the window.  However, "syncing" does not come into play (for loading content) if you are using the manual method (or Autofill).  If you set up automatic syncing, syncing (any changes since the last sync) happens automatically when you connect the shuffle.

  • IPod restarts when syncing music

My iPod restarts when its in the middle of syncing music. Sometimes it just restarts and other times it says the required folder cannot be found. Can anyone help me?

Plug your iPod into your computer and once iTunes open go to the iPod preference plane on the source list. There is the option to restore your iPod. Restoring means to erase your iPod completely and reinstall a new software on it. So if you have any files in your iPod that you don't have on your computer, back them up before you do the restoring. Otherwise, proceed with the restore (You need internet connection to do the restore). You should be fine after restoring it.
