My video shot at 16X9  came in to X as 4X3. How do I change it?

I shot about 16 Hr of SD video in 16X9. And also shot some Vixia video in 1440 x1080.  Just downloaded Final Cut Pro X and all the SD video came in in 4X3 and looks squeezed.  How do I change the aspect of the Sd video.  The vixia came in fine as wide screen.

Was the SD media captured from a camera in FCP? How'd it get into your computer?
You may have to use the QT7 pro player to fix this. You should also be able to fix it if editing into a widescreen project. What format project are you editing in SD anamorphic or HD anamorphic? Edit the SD clips into the project and in the spatial conform for the clips set it to fill.

Have you ever even used skype on an iphone or ipod?  We tried it and there is no way to type to each other while you are video chatting.  You can do the typing during the video on a COMPUTER, but not on an iphone or ipod.

  • Video shot in 16x9 how to convert to 4x3... can it be done?

All of my video is in the 16x9 format. The local cable access only puts out in 4x3. When they show my videos, everything is tall and thin. Is there a way to convert the video to 4x3 (removing part of the left and right of the 16x9 frame). Or if that isn't an option, is it possible to put the 16x9 in a shadow box format (16x9 inside the 4x3 box) so that it won't get "squished" when the cable access guys take my video from the DVD. DVDs are produced with iDVD 7.0.4.

Turn off "convert material to fit frame" on your user settings then create a new 4:3 DV sequence. Put your DV 16:9 anamorphic material and put in the new sequence. You will have the 16:9 inside a 4:3 frame with black bars top and bottom. This is known as letterboxing.
Another option is to put the 16:9 version into a 4:3 timeline and adjust the distort settings until the image fills the screen top to bottom and shows normally proportioned people. This will crop the sides. (This is known as a center cut.)
Another option is to crop the 16:9 version using Compressor.

  • When I video something holding the iphone 4s in an upright position, the video is sideways when I upload to my computer.  How can I change this?

When I use the video camera on my iphone 4s and hold it upright, when  upload the video to my computer it saves it sideways.  Anybody have this issue?
    How can I correct it?

You can associate files from the Bridge level and the Desktop level.
In Bridge CS4, go to Preferences > File Type Associations and change it to Photoshop CS4 for the file types you want.
If you want to open files from the Windows Desktop in CS4, these are the instructions:
Do this from the Windows Desktop:
If you want your image file to open in Photoshop and it doesn't, right click on it and choose
Open with > Choose default program… select Photoshop CS4 or CS6 and checkmark "always use the selected program to open this type of file".

Hopefully that's enough to get you moving along.

I am trying to determine the new project preset for a multi-camera video shot as follows:  3 Canon camcorders,
Main shot is DV (tape) (720x480, 29fps) - ceremony and reception
    b-roll is DVD (mini-disk) (720x480, 29fps) - bride preparations
additional b-roll is AVCHD (1920x1080, 29fps) - groom preparations and misc all day ceremony and reception.
Film is from a wedding, DV contains main footage so I assume it will need to be the base.  I am planning to use the preset for DV-Widescreen.  Is there a better option?  I'm concerned about playback as the three appear to have different PAR.  I'm using Premiere Elements 10 on W8.
Ultimately this will be burned for two formats - one for a DVD that can be watched on a widescreen TV, second for a short clip trailer to go on vimeo.
(And no I won't be doing this again for a wedding that I shoot.)

Please review since I am not sure how you obtained Video 3 tall when you scaled Video 3 with Constrain Proportions in effect.
    Before
    After
It becomes a zoomed in effect to get rid of the black borders. But, there is no tall and thin involved anywhere.
And, after the Scale increase, you can always click on the screen and move the image around a bit
(without overdoing it to get black borders again).
    After and an adjust

    Hello,
Just shot a video with my pocket camera. Downloaded to IPhoto. When I played it back, it was totally out of time? is there any way to fix this? It is an MP4 file which opens in Quick Time Player.

  • How do I transfer video files shot from my camera (Canon 5DMk2) which is in .MOV format into iTunes ?

how do I transfer video files shot from my camera (Canon 5DMk2) which is in .MOV format into iTunes ?  My photos and video files are first imported into Aperture then synced with iTunes. However, itunes does not capture the Video files but uploads the phtos from Aperture during sync.
I tried dragging the video files into iTunes but it still would not be captured into iTunes ?
Appreciate any help on this. Thanks

Open them in Quicktime Player 10.1. Then, use Quicktime's Share menu > iTunes.  That will create an iTunes compatible version and automatically load it into your iTunes movie library.

  • How do I retrieve videos shot on my iPhone4 lost after a synch to PC?

I have lost videos shot on a European trip on my wife's iPhone4 after a synch to her PC laptop running Windows Vista.  With this setup, when I synch the iPhone it downloads photos shot on phone to Adobe Photoshop Elements v5.0.  Photos appear in a new folder by date, no problem.  BUT, the videos that were shot on the iPhone do not appear in the Adobe program.  After synch, photos are left on the phone.  But the videos shot on our trip appear to be gone!
I synched again with iPhone, and still cannot find them.  I can't find them in iTunes, or in a folder on the PC.  Now I look in Apple Support info, and find that iTunes only keeps ONE backup of iPhone, and fear that I cannot get the videos back from the first synch.  Any ideas on where I might retrieve them??
Also have an iPhone 3GS which I synch to my Mac (no problems there-I don't shoot videos). Have upgraded both iPhones to latest software/firmware, and am using latest version of iTunes.  Only software that is legacy is the PC version of Adobe Photoshop Elements (v5.0).  Later synched her iPhone4 to my Mac (see below) and still cannot find the missing videos from the iPhone.  These are videos she shot in several European countries, and are irreplaceable.  Please help me salvage her videos so we can celebrate our 26th Anniversary next month (she is not very happy right now)!

Photos/videos in the Camera Roll are not synced. Photos/videos in the Camera Roll are not touched with the iTunes sync process. Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can be imported by your computer which is not handled by iTunes. Most importing software includes an option to delete the photos/videos from the Camera Roll after the import process is complete. If is my understanding that some Windows import software supports importing photos from the Camera Roll, but not videos. Regardless, the import software should not delete the photos/videos from the Camera Roll unless you set the app to do so.
Photos/videos in the Camera Roll are included with your iPhone's backup. If you synced your iPhone with iTunes before the videos on the Camera Roll went missing and you haven't synced your iPhone with iTunes since they went missing, you can try restoring the iPhone with iTunes from the iPhone's backup. Don't sync the iPhone with iTunes again and decline the prompt to update the iPhone's backup after selecting Restore.

  • Possible to rotate video shot in portrait to landscape?

So I shot a video holding the camera in portrait orientation (vertical). When I streamed the video to my Apple TV, instead of rotating the image to fit the full screen, the video is a thin strip down the center of the screen (maintaining the portrait orientation). On iOS I am able to lock the screen orientation so I can turn the phone sideways and see the video properly (otherwise the same thing happens in landscape mode), however this has no effect on Apple TV. Perhaps the physical video cable might make a difference but I don't have one to test, nor would that solve the bigger problem of exporting the video into other applications.
This seems incredibly counter-intuitive to the way video cameras have always worked. That is, regardless of how a camera is positioned, the video is always played back in the proper orientation so that it fills the screen. I can not think of a single application where I would want my video displayed as a thin strip down the center of a screen.
Link to Example Image – http://gallery.me.com/woodwyn/100031/IMG_1159/web.jpg?ver=13059966380001
So I imported it into iPhoto, in which i can see the rotate button, but does not appear to allowthea rotate function. I then opened it in QuickTime and again found no way to alter the orientation. Finally I imported it into iMovie, and was surprised there was no way to correct the screen orientation there either. iPhone and Quicktime simply created vertical windows for playback, while iMovie constrained the portrait 1280 height into a vertical 720, and stretched the portrait 720 width across the 1280 horizontal. Completely unacceptable!!
Surely there is a simple way to do this that I am simply overlooking?

Yes, iMovie 9 will do this, which I had to upgrade to. It is still a rather convoluted process, but at least it can be done.
As for holding the camera horizontally in the future, well that is not always practical. It is much easier to hold onto the camera vertically, as well as for stability.
However, I did discover something ... the iPhone does not seem to change orientation during filming regardless of how the phone is held. Evidently whatever orientation the camera is in when recording starts, is the orientation the rest of the movie will be in, regardless of whether it changes for the remaining movie or not.
So, in order to see the film as I shot it, I will actually have to make clips out of every change in orientation, then change the orientation to landscape if it is not already, flip some 180 as they are upside down depending on the rotation from orientation to orientation. It really would have made things so much simpler if the iPhone mimicked the way traditional cameras work.

  • Video shot in portrait show up as landscape?

Videos shot in portrait mode, downloaded and brought back on the iPhone through iTunes only play in landscape mode, with the top and bottom parts of the video cut off.
The small preview before you play it looks correct (portrait), but the playback is wrong (landscape). Any ideas how to correct this? The videos played correctly on the camera roll. Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Some photo software and sometimes some cameras don't seem to tag photo's correctly for the Apple TV, try using different photo software.

  • Upgrade to Lion broke iMovie 08 - iSight Camera - No camera connected - To import video, please connect a camera - error message

I recently upgraded to OSX Lion.  My MackBoo Pro is fully patched and updated.  I can launch iMovie 08 but when i try to record or import video from camera it get the error message. No Camera Connected - To import video, please connect a camera.
All my other applications work fine with iSight including iChat, Skype, PhotoBooth.  So why would a specific upgrade to Lion break iMovie 08?
I looked at the other posts on this topic and no one has a really solid explination or fix.
    help please!!

That is odd.  When logged into Discussions, the Profile tab on my personal Apple Support Communities > People page includes the following screen-shot from immediately below the big avatar picture:

If you want to fix your problem, it is time to reinstall and updated to the most current iMovie '08 version.
If you did not buy iLife '08 separately, perhaps it was included in the Software Applications disk(s) that came with your Mac.
lonestarry wrote: ... a colleague ... has the exact same issue...
Has your colleague reinstalled and updated iLife after upgrading to Lion?
I am using iMovie '11 (version 9.0.4), so I cannot test your specific version.  iMovie 9.0.4 is properly working for me after I restarted it one time.
However, depending on individual system configurations, Lion compatibility may be version dependent.  For example, this forum post contains reports of iLife '08 (and even older) working with Lion.  Moreover, as shown in this screen-shot from the roaringapps listing, it is the newer versions that may have problems:
Your version 7.1.4 should work with no trouble if all your Apple software is up to date.
