My videocamera's format is unsupported i Premiere Pro CC?

When I put my video clip on the timline in Premiere, the video itself shows up in pretty good quality but there is no sound. My camera is a regular Sony handycam, and it shoots AVCHD video which All of the sony cameras shoot. Is it true Premiere dosn't support AVCHD audio or is it just something with my settings? HELP?

  • What is THE best video file format to import into Premiere Pro CS6?

What is THE best video file format to import into Premiere Pro CS6? I am tired of the guess work of "this might work if you do this." Just tell me which is, flat out, the easiest for Premiere to read?? I generally animate in Adobe Flash, and some times with a Live camera. Premiere seems to pick and choose which video file it wants. I import from the File drop down box in the upper left hand corner, then move the video file to timeline. Under the "scrubber" there is a thin red, (or when rendered) a green line. The videos I put in the timeline show a thin yellow line which means Premiere is confused. So, in basic terms, which video format is MOST commonly accepted with the least amount of trouble/hassle?

Premiere has a function now where you can import a clip and drag onto a timeline and it will prompt you with a message about changing the timeline settings to match your clip, (or if there is no timeline it will automatically create one that matches your clip.) This is in CC of course so you might consider upgrading. They have fixed a lot of compatibility issues from CS6 to now. If you don't want to get all of CC for 60/month then you can at least shell out 20/month on premiere. It's worth it. They've made it where you don't have to worry about 99% of all video formats. They just work.

Excellent - great information guys! I love the links to write ups.
preface: (This whole project was shot with Canon 5DM2 - I don't remember if the cameras were set at 24 or 30 fps )  so as i am learning about the export options i am also learning (the hard way) about the seq settings.
Right now on my current project (fashion show)  I have 9 designers that walked the runway, so i am creating 9 timelines in a project. for each designer/tl i will output (.mov)vimeo and facebook seg for each one. i have edited 4 designers so far and i think i have some issues and i need to learn more about seq settings and also output options.
I am also delivering a physical dvd.  I created a FINAL tl that i am dropping each (nested) designer segment onto.  when i created this tl i must have set it up as dv ntsc - (out of habit)-and i think that is the choice for going to physical dvd?not sure?.
the first 2 designers i set the seq settings at dv ntsc and they fit (nested ) on the "final" tl, ///however i think i had to resize all those  clips (I didn't know why they weren't right. - honestly i can't remember///
ANYWAYS,  Designers 3 and 4= i had set the seq settings at canon xf mpeg2 1080i/p
Should all the designers seg be set at canon xf mpeg2 1080i/p (i selected 1080p30) but i really don't know if it was 24 or 30 (is that information in clip info somewhere?)
Can I change a seq setting once the timeline is edited on? = please don't tell me i have to re=edit. yikes What should the correct settings be?
Is there a work around to put designers 1&2 (dv ntsc settings) on same tl with 3&4 (canon xf mpeg 1080p30) ?
Finally what setting should that final (NESTED FINAL timeline all designers) be? - for output to physical DVD ( JVC-Taiyo Yuden )

  • Importing H.264/MPD-4 video into Premiere Pro 5.5.

My Nikon DSLR records video in H.264/MPD-4 but this format doesn't appear to one of the supported formats in Premiere Pro. It seems I should first convert the H.264/MPD-4 files to a supported format before importing into Premiere Pro. As I would like to retain as much data as possible can anyone please advise if converting is necessary and if so on a good format and the compression to use?
    Thanks
      Peter

Are we correct in assuming that you are not a current Premiere Pro user?
Generally I think Nikon's record video in a MOV wrapper similar to what Canon DSLR's do.
You can always download a trial verion of Premiere and see what happens, also, you may like to try Grass Valley's Edius if Premiere cannot handle your files
I have no problems with either Premiere or Edius editing my Canon 7D files and I have not had to convert.  The edited movies I export in MP4 format and also to the HD version of MPEG2, Premiere has export presets that have customizable settings you can tailor to suit and hence retain max quality
By the way Premiere is soon to go subscription only so you can only use the software when your subscription is current, the monthly cost varies to where you live, judging by your monika you are in God's country AKA NZ. if it is NZ where you live you will probably be screwed compared to the guys in the US by that I mean pay more, there are masses of posts in the video lounge on the subscription issue

  • Impossible to use Premiere pro CS3...?

Hello, I am new to this forum and also a new owner of Premiere Pro (CS3-windows Vista 32bits)
My problem? After importing my HDV films with PPro, video and audio have huge gaps up to 15 sec in any of the windows of PPro!!! The imported sequence are OK in any video "reader" as VLC... but not in PPro.
Could it be a bug of PPro with timelines "breaks"? Opened in Windows Movie Maker, audio and video match perfectly for these same sequences (sorry for the english, I am french)
I am a bit horrified as I bought Premiere, confident on the quality of Adobe softwares and in the impossibility of testing with the testing version as HDV is deactivated in it!!!!!
Please, could you make me more confident, I am so afraid!
    Thank you.
NOTE: I had my hard drive formated just before installing Premiere pro... !!

Some news: the problem of synchro may be of more than 3 minutes!!
Even on another computer with windows XP, the problem is the same: PPro unable to work correctly and files correct in any other software...
Please, does anyone can help me? Thank you.

  • Premiere Pro CC won't import ANY audio file, be it an mp3 or part of an mp4 video (or other formats)

Any audio or video file I drop in to premiere will almost immediately pop up with the window
    Audio Conforming Error
    Error compiling movie.
    Unknown error.
When I check the error/event log (little red X in the bottom corner) that window says:
"11/21/14 09:47:28  A disk error occurred while attempting to access the following files:
    \\ipsse01\home$\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\Media Cache Files\filename.mp3 44100.cfa"
(The actual file is on my desktop)
This happens with everything, even the stock audio files Windows comes with in the "Sample Music" folder, I tried those too to no avail.
I'm at a complete loss. I'm new to premiere pro but these are generic file formats so I don't think the issue is with the file. I haven't tried to reinstall because I'd have to go to our one network administrator/IT person (who also is the accountant for the company) so she can enter the admin user name/password in the pop up box, and she's often so busy. I'm trying to avoid bugging her if I don't need to (which unfortunately I tend to still have to do a lot)
    For reference I'm running Win7 Professional 64-bit, 8GB RAM, and an i7-4610M CPU @ 3.00 GHz.

Thanks for responding, but I work for a very small company and since I'm the only one who needs CC, I have the personal version installed.
Also this appears to be a blanket issue with all audio and video file formats, thus not likely a codec issue since the files I've tried so far should be covered by premiere's compatibility, the even play in windows media player with no issue.
Video itself plays fine, but any audio attached to a video, or just plain audio files will not import no matter what I try.
    Sorry my info didn't help.
    Two things to try.
Create a brand new project and test if you can import the problematic files.
If that does not work, change the name of the folder that contains your media files. Then try to import.
    Let us know what happens.
    Thanks,

  • Problem when exporting audio from Premiere Pro v4.2.1 into wave 5.1 format

    Hello to Adobe experts!
After installing of last updates for Adobe Premiere Pro (v4.2.1) and for Media Encoder (v4.2.0.006) the was a problem:
Now I cannot to export audio from adobe sequence into uncompressed wave format with 5.1 channels settings. Source m2ts video files in sequence are with 5.1 audio.
    What I doing:
    1) in Premiere I execute "File\Export\Media"
    2) Export settings are:
    - format: Windows Waveform
    - audio codec: Ucompressed
    - basic audio settings: 44100Hz, Channels: 5.1, Sample Type 16bit
    3) After OK button it opens Adobe Media Encoder.
    4) After pressing Start Queue in Adobe Media Encoder there is a message "Error compiling movie. Unknown error"
In earlier versions it worked fine.
Can you help me with this problem?
    Alexander

Here are the options, from a sequence with 5.1 master track:
    and with Surcode:
Notice that first one does only give stereo as an option. Nothing more. With Surcode it gives you 5.1 sound.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 classroom in a book lesson files "file format not supported" error message

Hey y'all. I have the creative Suite cloud membership and am learning Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and have the latest update. I have an iMac, version 10.8.2 and have been going through the lessons 1-8 so far from the 'Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Classroom in a book' with no problems. So far so good. Then, when I opened Lesson 9 project today, I realized that certain media was off line (see pic below-videos and maps) even though I had been able to open the project. I tried to see if it was a link issue but was unable to select the 'Link Media' option and the system did not give me the option to link media when opening a new project. The strange thing is that I am now able to open some lessons with everything working fine but when I try to open other lessons such as lesson 9 or 10 or 11 I notice media files offline after getting the "file format not supported" pop-up error message when attempting to open a project. It's random as some lessons I had opened previously now give this error message of file format not supported when they didn't in the past whilst others work. I have deleted all the lesson files from my hard drive and reinstalled them from the cd onto my hardrive but the issue persists. Any idea as to why all of a sudden Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 is giving the error message "File format not supported"??? when opening the lessons. I have not changed any preferences. I've included some screenshots though I don't know how much help they will be... Is anyone else running into this issue??? Can anyone help???
NEVERMIND. I FOUND OUT ON MY OWN WHAT THE ISSUE WAS AND IS NOW FIXED. YAY!

Why were you trying to link a file in the project to the project file itself? Shouldn't it be a video file or something? Like .mov .wav .avi .mp4 and not .prproj

  • Format of file Exported by SDK Exporter plugin for premiere pro cs4

    Hi
I am trying to build a plugin which can use a custom codec to export an imported video to h264 format.
The codec which i have to use converts a YUV420 raw video to h264 format. As given in the Premiere SDK Guide
the SDK Exporter supports uncompressed 8-bit RGB with or without alpha, and packed
10-bit YUV (v410). The initial rendering is performed by the RenderVideoFrame() function call which is called in RenderAndWriteVideoFrame().
This is then converted using various calls like ConvertFrom8uTo32f(), ConvertFromBGRA32fToVUYA32f(), and ConvertFrom32fToV410().
The problem i m facing is that i m not able to verify if the RenderVideoFrame() is working correctly and the format in which it writes.
Is there any way to check using any media player that can play the exported video. Unless i know the exact(correct) exported format
i wont be able to convert it to the required YUV420 format that i need.
Also if i dont use the ConvertFrom functions and use only the video stream written by RenderVideoFrame, can u specify clearly the format
and any media player which can play it, so as to check the working.
    Thanks
    Agam

Zac do you have any charts on what the pixel formats each filter supports?
If you use quirky filters (Adobe or 3rd party) you know they implemented with the mandated pixel format (BGRA_4444_8u) but probably no others. The result is that no matter what the importer/workflow/compiler combo you think you're working in you are forced to use BGRA_4444_8u from that point on in the workflow. - so much for "native" DV, HDV, MPEG2, MPEG4, CineForm, RED, etc etc etc.
Can you provide a list of what PixelFormats the Adobe filters support?
It would great to see it for CS5|4|3 & Prem Pro 2.0*
    Eg:     FILTER      PIXELFORMATS
         MOTION     BGRA_4444_8u   YUVA_4444_8u   V410   DV  etc etc
         BLUR          BGRA_4444_8u   YUVA_4444_8u   V410   DV  etc etc
         XXXXXX     BGRA_4444_8u   YUVA_4444_8u   V410   DV  etc etc
         YYYYYY     BGRA_4444_8u   YUVA_4444_8u   V410   DV  etc etc
That would be a fantastic table for the user to have. That way you know when you're forcing the workflow from the native import pixelformat type (and colorspace for that matter) back to 8bit RGBA. (and potentially loosing 10bit quality and screwing up the colorspace of rec601 and rec709).
I mention Premiere Pro 2.0 because it was the last version that processed the Timeline single threaded and thus the last version that single-threaded filters can be used on. 'fortunately plugins intended for later versions of Premiere will work with it because Prem Pro 2.0 understands the version 8 API of CS3 and CS4.
For this reason (legacy plugins) I'm in the process of pulling some plugins from CS3 into the Prem Pro directory to see it they work. I'm willing to do that even though the filter I want to use is BGRA_4444_8u only. - the filter is THAT important to me.
Sidenote: this is why I'm SO disappointed with CS5. Forcing plugins to be 64bit has killed the use of hundreds of 3rd party plug-ins created over the last 20 years - many of which are End Of Life and thus will only ever be 32bit. I would have been a lot happier to have CS5 implement proxy editing (ie OffLine editing) and then on Export click a button to use the Online (ie full res) material instead. That feature would have allowed v fast timeline rendering (with or without CUDA) and much lower requirements on cpu/gpu and storage. In the few instances that you need to edit in native 2k or 4k etc then sure do it but I bet 90% of the time you can work in 1080p or lower to get your movie produced.

  • How can i change the format of output captured footage using DSR-11 in Premiere Pro CS5.5?

    Hi.
I am using Premiere Pro CS5.5, capturing footage off a mini-DV casette (NOT HD) using a Sony DSR-11. All is well with that, except for that the output is an .avi rather than MP4 (H264). I am under the impression that H264 with the extension of .MP4, is better than avi.
Does anyone know if it is possible to change the format of that outputted footage?
    thanks:)

thanks Ann, Jim. I was afraid u'd say avi is the only option w/capturing, but am happy to hear it is the best option. Thanks again, and to the others who replied (and i will look at the "best export format/codec" page:)
