My volume automatically turns itself all the way down whenever I start my ipod (even when I'm not playing music)

My volume automatically turns itself all the way down whenever I start my ipod (even when I'm not playing music). As soon as I slide my ipod into opening the volume goes all the way down. Even if it's already completely off, the audio icon comes on the screen, which tells me the ipod is still trying to lower the volume. As I said, I don't even have to be listening to music. I can be on the opening screen. When I turn the volume back up, it immediatley turns it back down. It only doesn't go down if I physically hold my finger to volume bar on the touch screen.
And yes, I've updated all my software (on my ipod and laptop). I've also entirely reset my ipod twice.
Tell me, is it time to ditch the ipod and find some other sort of mp3 player (this is one problem at the end of a long list of less debilitating but equally annoying issues I've had with my 2 ipod touches)

Yeah, I probably mean restore. Multiple times though!
Also, I forgot to mention that this issue persists regardless of whether or not my headphones are plugged in.

Is the switch above the volume set for mute?  Accidentally bumping that would turn down the volume.
Try Settings > General > Lock Rotation to On and see if that eliminates the problem (although beware that the switch will now control screen rotation.  If sound starts working corrcetly, but your screen lock keeps setting, then I think you are having a switch problem.

    Try A and B
    (A) Restart iPad
    1. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
    2. Drag the slider to turn off iPad.
    3. Turn iPad back on, hold down the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears
    (B) Reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

  • My white macbook screen only works shortly when booting and when adjusting the brightness (turning it all the way down and up from there) and only stays on for seconds. any idea what to do?

Hi. I'm having quite an issue here. My macbook screen is only lid when i boot and when i adjust the brightness of the screen (going all the way down and up from there). either way it goes black again after a few seconds. External monitor works though.
Any ideas on how to solve this?
    Lasse

I buy the dirty theory as well.  plug and unplug a whole bunch of times - you may be able to dislodge whatever is causing the issue.  Also - make sure the plug is fully seated - (some of the pad jacks are vert tight, and you really have to work them in).  I gather you are out of warrenty?  Blow in the hole.
last resotr - take a toothpick, dip the end in fingernail polish, get rid of the xs, then very very gently, insert the pick and try to rub the contacts.  very gently as you do not want to bend them.

  • HT204370 the volume is very low on downloaded movies from itunes, and my volume is turned up all the way, and my volume is fine all other times???

My volume is very low when I download a movie from itunes, and my sound is turn all the way up.  The volume works fine on everything else.  It's really hard to even watch the movie and enjoy it.  Why is this happening?

Morning Al My issue has since been resolved after some advice from a friend. It was simple, push the optical cables in firmly until they click, however mine didnt click but there was definatley room for them to be pushed in further as if they are loose they "leak".  in addition to this on the TV settings, make sure that the TV speakers are turned off

  • Turn brightness all the way down?

Is there a way to change the default brightness threshold limits set by Apple when using the F14-F15 keys? I would like to be able to use F14 to black my screen as I can with my G3 iBook. Is there a threshold setting somewhere that could be changed? On my G3 iBook I can use F14 to effectively turn my display off but cannot do this on an iMac or with my Cinema Display. The lowest setting is just really dim.
Anyone know of a way to tweak the brightness limits?
    Thanks.

  • ITunes starts automatically and the volume is all the way down

Hi everyone, lately I have been experiencing some issues with iTunes. It starts at login (even though the option is not selected) and gives me an alert that the app volume is turned all the way down. Furthermore every time I try to turn up the volume, it will automatically jump back to the previous point.
After many tries, I finally completely re-installed my OS and moved all my data through migration assistant. I only moved applications, music, pictures and documents, leaving behind all the configuration files and other stuff that seemed replaceable. This didn't work either.
    Any suggestions?

common problem..sounds like your volume flex cable has shorted. bring to apple service tream

  • IPad air keyboard  makes sound when volume is turned all the way down

My iPad air's keyboard makes noise, even when the volume is turned all the way down. Is this normal? If so how can I turn off the keyboard typing noise without disabling entirely.

Aloha Raptorcheese, Good news, if you have you have change with buttons turned on you can control the keyboard volume with the normal volume control. No need to go back to settings all the time.

  • Why is my iTunes volume turned all the way down every time I launch the program?

Everytime I launch iTunes I get a warning and my iTunes volume is volume is turned all the way down. How do I fix this?

    This worked for me:
    Close iTunes
    Open Finder and navigateto: Users>YourAccountName>Library>Preferences>com.apple.iTunes.plist
Move that file to the desktop
Launch iTunes (which will create a new prefs file)
If the problem is now fixed, move that prefs file from the desktop to the Trash. There might be some personal settings in iTunes you will need to re-do.

  • TS3274 My sound On/Off button does not work. I have to turn volume all the way down to silence it. Is the switch faulty, or am I missing sometging

The volume On/Off switch does not work.  It does not mute sound. I have to turn volume all the way down to silence the sound.
Is the switch faulty or am I missing something here?

well first remove the case.  check the headphone jack for debris.  do a hard reset by holding sleep/wake and home button down together for 10 seconds untill apple appears.  backup and restore via itunes.  if issue persists the device needs repair

  • Opens with volume all the way down

WHenever iTunes opens under my profile, whether it is a computer restart, log out/log in, or program (iTunes) restart, I always receive the warning that 'The iTunes volume is turned all the way down. To change the volume drag the slider at the top of the iTunes window" I am able to check the 'Do not warn me again' option, but I don't because I want to know why the volume is turned all the way down in the first place.

Here's the answer supplied by Johnny Hands.  He's referring to the AirPlay control located next to the volume slider.  Make sure your computer volume is turned up or the check mark is disabled on the Multiple tab.

  • ITunes says volume tuned all the way down - no iTunes sound!

Today iTunes pops up a notification saying 'iTunes volume turned all the way down'. The speakers are on, volume is up. All other media play fine - but there is no sound if I try and play anything through iTunes!
I've never had this problem before.
I downloaded iTunes again, restarted my Mac and still, same problem. Any ideas? Thanks!

FYI, I can't say for sure this will fix your prob, but reinstalling an app on a Mac does NOT re-do the Preferences file, so if the Prefs are wonky, the reinstall will make no difference.
    *Renewing the Prefs*
with iTunes not running, move the file Users>YourAccountName>Library>Preferences>com.apple.iTunes.plist to the desktop
Launch iTunes (the app will automagically create a new prefs file)
If the prob is now fixed, move that prefs file to the Trash. There might be some personal settings in iTunes you will need to re-do.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings If yu can see the screen enough to do it)
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you have a hardware problem.

  • Why isn't my iPod (5th Generation) turning on all the way?

Okay earlier my iPod died and I plugged it in, while it was charging I was about to open my message app. Right when I clicked on it my iPod died or did something anyways. Now whenever I turn it on I just see the white apple logo for several seconds and the screen goes black again. I charged my iPod for about 5 hours so I don't think it's dead. I have tried holding down the home and power button together several times and it still hasn't turned all the way back on yet...and it wont connect to iTunes because it wont turn on all the way...what do I do?
( I haven't done the most recent update either so it's still iOS 8.1.2)

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Macbook won't turn on all the way.  Please help.

Macbook won't turn on all the way.  At first it only showed the grey apple logo, but now it says that I need to restart the computer by holding down the power button for several seconds or pressing the restart button.  I tried this already but it's not doing anything.  Please help.

    1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
    2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
    "c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
    3) The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
    4) In the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN". Click the "Next" button.
    5) You should then see a list of applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to life. Congrats! Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish completely.
NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's Operating System for your carrier and device.
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads
Just select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry model from the list and download the latest version. Install this download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right path.
