My volume button became sound effects, no sound at all

Can anyone help me with my ipad2, my button volume became Sound Effects label, and my iPad has no sound at all.

Hello Skeetercove,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Please follow the steps below to troubleshoot the issue of having no audio output from your iPad's speakers.  Please note that even though the steps state it's for iPhone, the same applies to your iPad.
Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, follow these troubleshooting steps.
Restart the iPhone.
If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
If the issue is not resolved, please contact Apple Support.

My new iPod plays the music over and over again. It does not stop and the volume buttons have no effect. What can I do? The RESTRICTIONS  require a a passcode and I don't have one. Any suggestions?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup.
In order to restore with the unknown Restrictions passcode you will likely have to place the iPod in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Last,
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Tilting, Volume Buttons and Sound Effects icon problem.

Every time I tilt my iPad while using it on a flat surface the volume button is contacted and the Sound Effects icon appears.  This is a very poor design in my opinion.  It drives me crazy!!  Any workarounds?

knothead997cdp - I know that with the iPhone, they say there is an app for everything, but causing you headaches isn't one of them! Judging from the multiple issues you are describing, the master reset is definitely the best course of action to take. You may always stop by at your closest Apple Store for a second opinion. In all honesty, it just sounds like the update went corrupt somewhere. Starting clean should take care of it!
Let us know how it goes. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us!
    Thank you knothead997cdp, take care!

  • Volume button making sound when pressed

When I press my volume buttons, a loud popping/clicking noise happens with each press. It shows the volume adjusting on my screen, but I can't get this cracking noise to stop. Help?

Sorry that the suggestion did not work.
You can revert back to the preference selection as it it was before the change.
System Preferences > Sound > Sound Effects
Checkmark the box next to  "Play feedback when volume is changed".
You may have to take the computer to the Apple store to have it checked out.
    Best.

  • My iPod touch has no sound when I play music or use the iPod touch at all.  Yes, the volume in the "sounds" is all the way up.  It has not been dropped or gotten wet.  I turned it off and on.  now what?

My ipod touch (4th generation) has no sound.  I have turned it off and on.....I have the volume up in the "sounds" area.  When I push the side volume button, there is no image that appears in the screen that shows that I am either raising or lowering the volume.  Do I need to just rest the ipod touch as a new device? Or is there someting else I can try?

And, now when I do press the side volume buttons, the image appears but with the words' "sound effects."  what does that mean?

  • Powerline Adaptor Question / Volume button

hi there, got BT Vision a few days ago. You know the plug socket that is on the powerline adaptor whats that for? Can i plug anythig in that like a plug? as its quite wide you cant plug in next to it so perhaps thats what its for?
also my controller works fine, every button, but volume up makes it go to a weird teletext thing and volume down switches it to analogue TV which is a bit weird. any ideas?

You can use the plug socket on the power line for anything.  Its there to replace the one you have used to power the device.
Regarding the volume buttons, it sounds like the remote is programmed incorrectly for your television and use need to enter the correct code for the remote so that it send the right signals to the televison for volume up/down.  The list of the codes, and how to programme the remote, are in teh vision instruction manual - alternatively post back, on this forum, with teh make and model and someone might be able to supply teh correct code.

  • IPad4 volume button appears to have suddenly gone bad, will not increase volume. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

My iPad4 lives in a smart case, it never even goes out of the house. I baby it to be honest. So why, I ask you, did the volume button suddenly stop working? I tried all the suggested software and general settings I could find but it appears to be a hardware issue. I hope I'm wrong. I can decrease volume down to mute without effort but the volume 'up' function is totally kaputt. Maybe somebody has experienced this problem and found a solution? I'm bummed that my (otherwise) perfect little iPad now has an annoying flaw. - Thank you

I would also suggest RMA for that. You can contact support at http://us.creative.com//support/custsup/

  • Sound is not working properly ? The volume button keeps saying sound effects when it's pressed .

Sound is not working at all now , when you press the volume button it says sound effects but nothing is happening

    Hello Hartnett01,
Thank you for the details you provided regarding your audio issue you are experiencing on your iPad.  I found a couple of resources that I think might help.
First, I recommend following steps in the following tutorial to address an issue like this (you can skip step 2 "Recharge iPad" because it's not related to this issue):
    Frozen or unresponsive iPad
    https://www.apple.com/support/ipad/assistant/ipad/
If the issue persists, I recommend reviewing this article next (the title of the article refers to an iPhone, but the steps still apply to an iPad):

    Hello, Miryam Maria.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I see you are experiencing issues with sound on applications when playing video/audio content.  If this is the case, the first thing I would check is if the side switch is set to silent as this can cause applications to be mute.  Below I have included an article that covers adjusting the  settings for the side switch.  Also, make sure to close all applications in Multitasking and power cycle the device.  Test the sound issue after processing these steps.

  • My 5 yr. old turned off the volume on my ipad. when I hit the volume buttons it just says "sound effects" and does not go up or down

my 5 yr. old turned off the volume on my ipad. when I hit the volume buttons it just says "sound effects" and does not go up or down

I had the same problem- go to Utilities, General, Use Side Switch To, and change it from Mute to Lock Rotation- this solved the problem for me.
    Good luck!

  • Ipad volume button only says sound effects

Not sure what happened but my volume button does not operate now on my ipad 2. When I unlock it and try it, it says sound effect.  I have tried all the common remedies posted to no help.  Only sound I can get is from the headphones.  Please help me.

Nevermind about the help.  I spoke to a friend and he suggested taking Q-Tip, removing part of the cotton, put a little rubbing alcohol on it, then insert it into the headphone jack.  Clean it several times.  Then also do the same to the charging port.  Not sure which fixed it but it works properly now.

  • I don't have any volume. When I push the mute button or try to increase the volume up or down nothing happens. The volume shows up as if it were at full volume but no sound. I am so frustrated.

I need some help with the volume on my macbook pro. I am getting absolutely no sound no matter if I push the volume increase or decrease button. Nothing changes. The volume bar shows up as if it were at full volume but no sound and the mute button doesn't do anything either.
    Please help.

Go step by step and test.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers.
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
2.Plug in and  remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port or not, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
Try this even if you don’t see the red light.
    3. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14222
    4. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so,uncheck it.
    6. System Preferences > Sound> Sound Effects
        Play sound effects through:
Select "Internal speakers" and then back to "Selected sound output device".

I have an iPad 1st generation that no longer has working volume buttons but every once in a while the sound turns on.  So I know the speakers still work.  I have tried resetting all settings and made sure that my side switch was auto lock not auto mute. I have tried the mystical swiping upward on the screen with 4 fingers to get some special sound menu (which I never succeeded in getting).  My headphone jack doesn't work all the time either so some times my kids can hear their games and sometimes they can't.  I am super frustrated at this point.  So any suggestions would be great.  Am I missing something basic or do we just have a soundless iPad now?

Recurring theme with the 4s losing alerts except for the phone ringing.  Most complaints seem to center on the 7.1 upgrade.  The fix is dodgy, putting in a charger, playing a you tube video then pulling out the charger and wiggling it until you get the sound back.  When you get the sound back, the volume buttons start to work again.  Alternate solutions involve cleaning the docking port with a toothbrush, running a pick over the electrodes etc.
