My volume button is broken and volume stuck on zero.  how can i fix?, my volume button is broken and volume stuck on zero.  how can i fix?

help! i have an ipad nano gen6, which works perfectly except that the down volume button is permanently stuck on down and won't come up. so i can't listen to anything - every time i turn the volume up it just goes immediately back down.  Is there a way to turn off the down button, which would be a clunky but workable soluteion? or am i stuck with having to take it to hte apple store - if so any know how much they are likely to charge for this - from a quick net search it seems this is a common problem and a bit of a design fllaw so i'm not keen to pay apple to fix a problem that seems to be their fault!
Thanks
Jamie

Hello Jtatch,
This is an awefull problem and is not your fault. It is and hardware issue wich is eligible for repair. Check your service and support status via this link:

If your ipod is within warranty go back to point of purchase and set up an repair. If you are within warranty than you will not be charged for repair.
Good luck,

  • The volume button is stuck on my (6th generation) nano, how much will it cost to get it fixed and is it covered in the warranty?

As it says up top, The volume button got stuck. So, how much do you think it will cost me to get it fixed?
And is this something that is covered under the warranty?
I mean, the rest isn't broken or anything and is in working condition, I just need the volume button fixed.

The Apple warranty is one year.  If you purchased your Nano less than one year ago, it is covered by the warranty.  If purchased more than a year ago, it is not covered by the warranty.  Apple has a flat rate ($80, plus tax) for an out-of-warranty Nano repair.

  • I received a new Ipad2 for Christmas, I noticed the few times i used it the volume button was stuck , it would stay on the screen and keep Turning up, it has a dent where the volume isin the middle, apple said I could send it for a replacement but...

She also mentioned if I had an apple store here I could take it in it may be faster, we just had a new apple store that opened in our mall so I took it in, talked to the tech and he pushed the button to see what I meant, then he says yeah this is broken and dented from pushing so hard on it, I said it wasn't really dented that bad just the middle, it came that way, then he's says well we aren't actually a apple store we just sell there product here so you are best to go with Apple and send it too them like they said, I was dumbfounded I honestly think he made this worse when he pushed on it, now I am scared when apple receives me iPad they won't replace it like they said, it was bought this way apparently a bad lot went into the store my husband got it and they told everyone to call apple to replace because they don't replace electronics, I am freaked out now I feel screwed all the way around, what do you think Apples reaction will be, how good is their customer service in Canada when sent away? I am just worried because this wasn't my fault

Big issue?  Really?  I'm on this forum just about every night and yet, I have not seen posts about such a "Big" issue with any regularity.  If your iPad was dented when you got it (sorry for not really believing you), why did you wait until just now to try bringing this to anyones attention?  My guess is you dented the iPad.  Initially it wasn't an issue, but after pushing on the volume control too hard, it is an issue and you want a free replacement.  I'm probably right on the money and you'll likely have a not too kind reply.  That's OK, because I'm not the one who will decide the outcome of this.  Apple will and for you to get an answer, take it to Apple.  But, don't be too surprised when they don't offer a free replacement and they offer you an "out of warranty" replacement at about 50% of the cost of the device when it was new.

  • The volume increase button is stuck on my iPod nano (6th Generation) and I can't turn the volume up. Is there a way to fix it?

I have the iPod nano 6th generation, and I have had it since Christmas 2011 so it isn't that old; recently I went to listen to my music and found that the volume increase button is stuck (basically it's like when you press the volume button down to increase the volume, except it is stuck down like that and won't come back up) but it was only stuck about 3/4 of the way down. For about a week this was ok, I just had to press the button harder to make it go down and increase the volume, but now it won't increase the volume at all and it feels and looks as though the button is stuck the whole way in, even when I press the button with some force. I was wondering if anyone knew how I could fix it or if I need to take it to an apple store for them to fix it?!
Sorry if the way I have explained the problem is confusing, it's difficult to explain but it's extremely frustrating.

This happened to me a few weeks ago.  Instead of taking it to the Apple store and paying $ the 99 service charge ( I did give Apple 139.00 13 months ago! for this ipod), I saturated the end of a q-tip w/ WD 40 and carfefully rubbed around the perimeter of the power button.  I waited a half hour and then cleaned of the excess WD 40.  This unstuck my power button.  I guess the WD 40 dissovled all the dirt under and around (also the consrtuction of the buttons is done w/ double sided tape-- maybe a design issue) the button.  A friend tried isopropyl alcohol w/ great results.  Try this before you give Appple any more $$ or get a new ipod.  It's been 6 wks. and my button functions perfectly,

  • Sleep and volume buttons broken, but there's another problem.

The sleep and volume buttons on my Ipod touch stopped working recently, and on top of that, my speaker randomly cuts out.
If I squeese the top and bottom of my Ipod hard enough, I can get the sleep button to work for about 3 seconds.
The volume buttons have not responded to anything.
My speaker started cutting out on the first day I got it, but I thought it was because I had set it up wrong. Squeesing the corner where the speaker is located will make it work again, but only for a short amount of time.
I plan on taking my Ipod to an Apple store to have it serviced, but there is one problem.
I accidently cracked my Ipod's screen. The buttons stopped working MONTHS after it happened, and the speaker was already broken.
My Ipod is still under Apple's 1 year warenty, so would they fix the buttons for free under the warenty even if the screen was cracked?
I don't care about the screen getting fixed, I just want the buttons to work again.

I know the screen will not be covered, and I don't need it to be fixed.
What I want to know is will they fix the buttons?
I don't think the buttons would have broken because of the screen because the buttons broke 4 months after the screen broke.
And the speaker was broken right out of the box.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • My volume down button have stuck  it was not my falt and no dent is on the button and I read in an article that apple will replace it because it is a defect and my phone is 2 years old so means out of warrenty just want to ask that will apple replace it

My volume down button have stuck but it was not my falt and no dent is on the button and I read in an article that apple will replace it because it is a defect and my phone is 2 years old so means out of warrenty just want to ask that will apple replace it.

If your phone is out of warranty you will be given the option of buying a new phone or getting one with an out of warranty replacement, which is cheaper that buying a new phone.

  • My volume button is stuck and I can't turn it up. Any solutions?

Your issue has nothing to do with Apple networking. You may get better results posting to one of iOS areas of the Communities.

  • My phone volume goes down and the ringer icon comes up and stays on blocking view. The buttons are not stuck. Why is this appending and how do I fix it.

Why does my iPhone volume  ringer icon come on by itself, the volume gets turned down on its own then the icon stays on and blocks my view. It also will at any time make any screen switch to large pictures that I can only see a small portion of screen at a time. I have tried too tap screen to make it go back to normal and nothing happens. I then try to turn it off. After several tries I am successful Its hard slide power off button because only a small section is showing. What is happening? How do I fix this?

Unfortunately this is probably a hardware issue and you will need to take it to an Apple Store.

  • How can access my iphone 5 when my home button and my lock button are both broken? Can I turn it on with the volume button?

Can I set it up so my screen turns on when I change the volume? Can I use something else? PLEASE HELP ME! I already tried to call apple when my screen cracked and they said that they can't do anything about it without charging me at least 200 dollars.

You can get one for around $50 I think. I know it's expensive, but it's better than paying $200 to Apple.
If you aren't able to get the case, you can turn it on by plugging it in for just a moment to any power source. You can't turn it on using the volume buttons.

  • My ipod power button and volume button are both broken what should i do??

My ipod power an volume button are both broken what should i do??

Try here. Some of the fixes for the Home button are also applicable to the Power button.
    fix for Home button
What happensed to the buttons? Is ther physical damage to the iPod that caused the problem?
Have you tried the standard troubleshooting of:
    - reset.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod
to rule out a software problem?

  • The volume down button has become hard to push down, almost stuck and my phone does at 20%-30% on my iphone 5. Do I qualify for it to be swapped?

I have an iphone 5 and I've been in before for the speaker because it doesn't sound as loud as before. Te volume down button takes effort to turn the volume down where as the volume up button is literally just a click. Also my phones been dying between 20%-30% sometimes higher. I have an appointment at 5pm today and I wanna ensure I get a properly phone working before my warranty is up (within the next two weeks) what should I do?

I said that cause I've gone in for two of the issues before and all they said was to do the whole restore backup stuff... Partial is hardware and from my understanding the either fix it or swap it out. I just wanna make sure I have a working phone before my warranty is up. Otherwise I'm going to have to pay a deductible for a new phone... So I guess what I'm trying to say is, is there anything I can say to benefit me?
