My webcam is no longer on my MacBook?

I signed up for Skype but nobody can see me because my WebCam somehow no longer exists. When I go into preferences it says "There is no camera connected to this computer". I know there's a camera I can see it right in front of me. So how do I get it to work?

You have not yet marked your question "Answered", so perhaps you are waiting for other suggestions.
After you have tried all relevant suggestions in Apple's How to Troubleshoot iSight, if your OS X System Profiler still does not show your built-in iSight as a USB Device similar, but not necessarily identical, to the one in this picture:

  • My Apple TV no longer sees my MacBook Pro / Itunes Library.

My Apple TV no longer sees my MacBook Pro / Itunes Library.  Apple TV tells me to turn on Home Sharing on my computer, which I have.
    Also:
    1. All other ATV connections are working (Netflix, movie previews, etc.)
    2. I have all the latest updates for ATV and Itunes
    3. Home sharing is turned on for both ATV and MacBook Pro Itunes
    4. I am correctly logged in to my Itunes account on both ATV, and Itunes on the MacBook Pro
    5. Everything had been working perfectly for approximately one year until yesterday.
I'm not sure what to try next.
    Thanks.

Thanks.  I just closed Itunes, came back today to check it out and the pull down menu with "Computer" or "Apple TV" was inexplicably back again and everything now works.  I had tried restarting Itunes, the modem, and router before with no luck.  Anyway, it's magically working.
    Thanks.

  • After 10.8.2 update i can no longer wake my macbook from standby with keyboard when the lid is closed

I just updated to 10.8.2 and now i can no longer wake my macbook froom standby when the lid is closed, it directly goes back to sleep
    steps to reproduce:
    1. attach secondary monitor and keyboard
    2. close lid
    3. wait 5 seconds for going to standby
    4. press any key on keyboard and type in user-credentials (notice how the 2nd monitor becomes the mainscreen)
    5. wait 5 seconds
    6. standby again
    side note:
i also have sudo nvram boot-args="iog=0x0" enabled, because i like to not use the integrated screen when its attached to a secondary screen, but since it goes back to standby right after login this is pretty much pointless

Same here, I think changed something in 10.8.2 that wrecked the "Open-MBP Clamshell Mode."  sigh

why does the fan run for long periods on macbook pro?

to keep the internal components of you mac at a safe operating temperature.

  • HT5873 how long can a macbook pro battery last?

how long can a macbook pro battery last?

Depends on your particular model of MBP. It depends on the context, too. Do you mean hours of usage or do you mean life of the battery?

  • Why do it take so long for my macbook to boot up

why does it take so long for my macbook to boot up

Well, I found a series of steps somewhere on the Apple support site (or forums) but I don't remember exactly where. I have times where the backup of my 16GB iPhone 3G takes 5 hours or more to complete. I have found that in my case, it is all related to one app that I have which I also tend to crash quite often. The more it crashes, the longer the backup takes. I can remove that one app from the phone before I sync and the backup will complete in less than a minute.
I don't have all the details on the steps I originally found, since I now know what causes my issue. Basically, the steps had you configure iTunes to not automatically sync when you connect your device. Then you connect the device and right mouse button click on it. In that menu you do something but I don't exactly remember what. It has to do with the crash/error reports that are stored on the phone. You probably need to clear those crash reports out and then sync your phone on a regular/frequent basis to keep them cleared out.

  • IPod Touch calendar no longer syncs with Macbook after upgrade to Mavericks

I have a 2nd Gen iPod Touch, running iOS 4.2.1 (the latest available). My MacBook Air previously ran Mac OSX Lion, and would happily sync the calendar with my iPod. I've just upgraded to Mac OSX Mavericks, which apparently comes with iTunes 11.1, but plugging my iPod into the USB port no longer causes the calendar to sync. I've tried manually syncing through the iTunes interface but it simply ignores the calendar, which remains stuck as it was when I last synced.
What am I doing wrong here?

I too have an older iPod. I do not care much for iCloud or any cloud so what I do is send my calendar to my e-mail and then open it on my iPod. I send Contacts using Adobe and, for me, it works fine. If you are in business and use these apps frequenctly I do not think this would work well for you. Only two options, iCloud or a Server.

  • Iphone 5 no longer recognized by macbook pro.

So my iphone 5 is no longer being recognized by my 15 in. retina macbook pro. I've tried multiple cables but the iphone is not charging through the computer in either usb port and does not show up in iTunes, Image Capture, iPhoto, Disk Utility, Finder, etc. The phone charges only through a wall or car charger but NOTHING happens when I plug it into the computer.
    Attempted Solutions:
tested multiple other usb peripherals, everything else functions as normal.
    Restarted phone and computer.
    Reset macbook SMC.
    Running OSX 10.8.4  iOS 6.1.4
edit: Just tried putting phone in recovery mode. iTunes did not ask to restore from backup but it did recognize the device was plugged in. When navigating away from the "summary" tab, the phone disconnected. Screen still showed iTunes symbol and cable (recovery mode screen)

Did you follow all steps in the article below?

  • Macbook Pro 15inch Early 2011 very long boot time, Macbook Pro 15inch Early 2011 very long boot time

I have the macbook pro early 2011 15inch. i7 processor, 500gb hard drive, and 4gb ram and have Moutain lion installed. The computer takes a good minute to boot to the login screen and then probably another 30 - 45 seconds to actually login and be able to do stuff on the desktop.
The comptuer has plenty of hard drive space, about 370gb. I dont think it should be taking this long for my comptuer to boot up. What can I do to make this boot time faster? (I am currently looking to get an ssd but that wont be for a while untill i get the money) So what can I do in the meantime to help it boot faster?

First go to Disk Utility and verify disk and repair if needed then repair permissions. Do you have any antivirus installed? Then go through all of your apps and check to make sure they are compatible using www.roaringapps.com. I guarantee it is an incompatible app or antivirus causing the issue. Also, look at Thomas A Reeds, Understanding Upgrade Nightmares article, http://www.reedcorner.net/understanding-upgrade-nightmares/

  • Toshiba hard drive no longer recognised on Macbook Air

    Hi everyone
I wondered if you could help? I have a Toshiba external hard driver (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00560Z2ZM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=U TF8&psc=1) which I purchased last November. I reformatted it and it worked swimmingly with my Macbook Air and any PC I plugged it into until a few weeks ago. It still works with PC's but my mac doesn't recognise it at all. It doesn't show in my desktop or disk utility and I have made sure everything is selected (i.e. 'show external hard drives') but still no luck.
The blue light is on but it no longer makes a noise, although it still does when plugged in to a PC. From what I can gather it can't be a hard drive fault, surely?!
Does anyone have a solution to this? I'd really appreciate it!
    Thanks
    Laila
P.s. this is my first post so apologies if it's in the wrong community etc.

    Hi rivraff,
If you are having issues mounting an external hard drive volume, you may want to see if it shows up and/or can be repaired in Disk Utility; you may find the following article helpful:

  • Ical no longer syncs with macbook

so with the option to sync to the new super duper icloud, there is no longer any sync with the macbook, even though i have "sync with this ipad over wifi" checked.
is there something else i need to do to get the ipad and macbook to sync properly?
i synced the old way, but now of course have three of everything. the option in itunes to replace the ipad's calendar contents with the macbook's didn't work either.
    god, what a mess.
any pointers would be very much appreciated.

I don't have Panther available anymore so I'm shooting in the dark. You might try to stop syncing and then turn syncing back on (the idea is to break the connection and start new) Be sure to have a backup of anything you can't lose.
You might also try trashing iSync preferences.

  • Messages no longer working on Macbook Air

since the latest software update on my Macbook Air my messages no longer functions. No incoming messages even when they are there on my iPhone. Jabber showed up and i disabled that and ensured imessage account was enabled.

  • Why cannot I no longer connect my Macbook (not air og pro) to the TV?

I have a Macbook (medio 2010) which I can no longer connect to my TV. I have the two connected with a DVI to HDMI and in the beginning I had no problem using this - it all happened automatically.
Now it just says I need to check the connection and in settings I can no longer choose en external display/mirroring.
I have updated my software to Mountain Lion 10.8.3 and the weird thing is I got it to work one time the other day. When I connect the two the screen on the computer turns burn (it reacts), but nothing is transmitted to the TV.
    What can I do?
I have tried connecting the cables in different sequences, turning mac/TV off and back on, updated software, but nothing seems to help. I am desperate - please someone help me.

Have you checked the Sound Preferences under the System Preferences and set it to USB speaker for the sound output? Sometimes it can change on its own or after and update of an App or the OS?

  • Personal Hotspot no longer recognised by Macbook Pro

I occasionally use Personal Hotspot to keep our Macbook Pro (minimally) up to date while travelling.
Personal Hotspot was a convenient, easy to use and inexpensve tool. But it no longer works.
Our service supplier suggested updating the iPhone to IOS 6.0.1 and pairing will work. Did that, no change!
Since I last used Personal Hotspot the Macbook pro software has been rebuilt following a disk crash (Mac OS X 10.6.8).
Personal Hotspot is enabled on the Iphone. The iphone is connected by a USB cable. The iphone is not appearing in the list of network services. In the past this was automatic.
    Any suggestions out there?
    Miller for Christine

Oh dear. No replies seems to imply this is a thing that can't be fixed at all.

  • Airport card no longer found on Macbook

My airport card is no longer being found by my macbook. I haven't done anything different?

i'm having the same problem. was using my macbook (online, no less!) 30 minutes ago, put it to sleep, and then when i opened it up 5 minutes ago it could not find my wireless network. it gave me the message that "no airport card is installed" on my computer.
tried restarting a couple times but nothing changes...also, i can't try to tweak settings in the Internet Connect panel, since the airport option does not come up.
do i have to reinstall the OS, or is this something that should be "naturally" remedied after some more restarts?
