My weird iPod

hey my ipod is acting kinda weird. about four days again i was going to skool and i was going out the door to the bus stop and tried to turn on my ipod. on click it should have turned on but it didnt and it wasnt on hold. so i had to press around the wheel to try to get it to turn on because i new the ipod was charged. well it turned on and everything was fine. then at the end of the day i was listening to it and the sound was normal and then it got really low volume then all of the sudden a loud ear crenching sound came from the earphones and the music got unbearibly loud. then i turned it off. then it was fine for a day or two and then the same thing happens wen i try to turn on the apple logo is there before it turns on and then i could listen to music wen suddenly my ears are bumbarded with loud sounds and wen i took the earphones out and just leave it on for a minute the ipod suddenly turns off. wats all that about? help me someone it would be greatly appriciated.

Someone earlier on today had EXACTLY the same problem. Someone else pointed out that this is a known issue. It happens when iPods are near certain mobile phones. You iPod is probably not broken.

  • Some playlists don't show up - weird iPod syncing problems

Apologies if this question has been answered elsewhere - couldn't find the answer when I was searching the boards last night. Don't know if this is an iTunes problem or an issue with the touch...
Last night, I plugged my iPod touch (1G) into my MacPro to add some new music. This is when things got weird!
First, I noticed that my iPod's name had mysteriously changed since the last time I synced it. It used to be called "Christine's iPod" and now it has reverted to the default "iPod touch."
Next, when I went to add some different playlists to the iPod, I noticed that one of the playlists I wanted to add didn't show up in the Music tab, so I couldn't "tick" it for inclusion on the iPod. This isn't a new playlist, and I have successfully synced it with this iPod in the past. I tried renaming the playlist and making a new playlist with the same songs, and neither of these playlists showed up either. BTW, I definitely don't have too many playlists - I probably have 100-150 playlists total.
Anyway, I restored my iPod and starting from scratch - and the playlist still didn't appear to be available to sync. I ended up adding the playlist by "manually managing" my music, but this isn't an ideal solution. I'd like to be able to sync the playlist!!
Don't know if it's relevant, but my bf also has an iPod touch that he syncs to the same iTunes account. We have separate computer logins, and our iTunes Library is on a shared disk on our MacPro (to prevent needlessly wasting HD space due to song replication) and occasionally we both get messages saying we don't own or don't have permission to access the Library when opening iTunes. To solve this, we alter the permissions on the disk and apply to enclosed items. Maybe this happens after updating iTunes or adding new songs? Not certain what triggers it.
Thanks in advance - this is really bugging me!

This isn't foolproof but there are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song has no album name associated with it or 2) the song is marked as part of a compilation.
If tracks are missing an Album name (as mentioned above) in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances but the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous in place of a title. See this link for more detail: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod
Also if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Compilations are stored in a separate folder in iTunes so the songs don't appear inside the normal Artist>Album folder which may be why this happens.

  • Really weird ipod problem that i cant find info on

Okay, so i took my ipod to my dad's house over the weekend and his computer messed it up. Now when i import songs, they appear to convert to the ipod when I'm in itunes, but once i unplug the ipod from the computer (and yes i do eject it first) the songs disappear. For some reason i can't ad any songs to my ipod anymore. Earlier some weird message about a corrupted file chklis/file7 or something along that line at least came up. And well, I have no idea what to do. Ive been searching for help all night and i havent found any yet.

Assuming that your computer recognizes the iPod is connected, check out the instructions/suggestions here.
    Music from iPod to computer.
There's also another method I've seen posted. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
However it appears that no playlists or any other info such as ratings/last played etc will transfer.
If this is important to you, you may want to use other options.
There's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer.

  • Weird iPod Touch Images Seen in iPhotos

When my iPod Touch is connected to my Mac Pro I get a hangman icon in my iPhotos library! That's right, I said in my iPhotos library! I also see a few other weird games, such as tic tac toe and dots & boxes. These images look like cheesy drawn games for children.
Even odder yet, I don't have HangMan installed and never have. The iPod shows up in the iPhotos menu as a "device" with a camera icon. All told, there are seven images.
Anyone else have this in iPhotos? Any ideas what the heck it is?
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • Weird Ipod Space problem

I have a 40 gig 4th generation ipod. I dropped it by mistake yesterday and began encountering problems (it would skip through songs without playing them, and finally would only show the folder icon and the support/apple/ipod message). The plastic case was even coming out of the metal backing. Anyway I popped it back in and restored it (although it took like 10 mins to restore rather than the regular 1 or 2). Well then it still wasnt working properly so I formatted it, then restored it.
Now it seems to be working perfectly EXCEPT.....it now shows I have a grand total of 16 gig on my ipod rather than 40. I have no idea what to do now. I have checked it with both itunes as well as through start\my computer and it clearly shows I have only 15.99 gig TOTAL of space availible. What is going on?

But then why would it still be working? I dunno, I still think something else may be going on. However if this is true know where I can get a new 40 gig hard drive the cheapset?

  • Weird iPod app Problem

When I go to the iPod app in my iPhone, it says that there is no content. But, after I have bought a song in the iTunes WiFi Music Store and then tap the black "Purchased" button in the Downloads area that brings you to the Purchased playlist in the iPod app, I can view everything on my iPhone -- so the content is being synced. I can also view through iTunes that the content is being synced. I have tried to rebuild my iTunes library. I really have no idea what's going on. It's just when I tap the orange iPod button that I can't view any of the content.
I'm running Leopard, by the way, and the latest version of iTunes.

my problem in iphone is when im listening to music on ipod the volume goes down. The volume is full in the settings. Only after I restart the phone it becomes normal. But again when I access the sounds settings the volume goes down again…

  • Really weird ipod touch problem

so the day i got my ipod touch i was really careful with it i pretty much kept it in one place all day and night but in the morning a strang mark had appeared on the back of it, kind of dark greyish with little dots, looks almost like a small fingerprint, small though, a litle smaller than the apple logo on the back...so anyway i took it to the apple store yesterday they told me they have never seen this problem before and they gave me a brand new one....everything worked perfectly fine with my new one and i took extra care to make sure it wasnt damaged or near anything hot or something like that i pretty much just kept it in the same place all day and night again but then this morning i woke up and the same mark was there again on the back of it cant remmeber if its in the same place or not but its on the same level as the other one was but i cant remember if the first one was on the right or left side, but its on the left side adjacent to the apple logo on the back about a quarter of an inch away from it....i hadnt dropped it, put it next to anything hot, it was sitting in the same place almost all night just like the first one..... the apple people are baffled they offered to give me a new one but i think it will just hapen again...so what could be the problem!?!?
at this point im starting to think its a poltergeist

The second ipod was in a different location on top of my wooden dresser in my room, in a one story house, inside the ipod sock, when it wasnt in the sock it was on a wooden table plugged into my macbook for activation
first time it was on top of a wooden table not near any windows, and the temperature inside my room is rather cool
here, in the suburbs of san diego CA, the temperature is mild right now, not too hot not too cold so...
the ipod was on its back both times
both times it took me one day to see it, from the time of purchase to the next morning...
    thanks!

  • Weird iPod charging problem

Well I have this rather odd problem that I cannot seem to find or fix myself. I bought a few iPod charger cables from eBay the other day (5 of them) as I didn't have that many spare around the house. When I first used the cables, they worked find untill today. They just do not want to charge my iPod no matter what I do. Now to make sure it's not a problem with my iPod's charging ability, I used one of the cables that came out of the box...and it worked. I've tried different USB ports, power points and about 4 different wall chargers and still, the cables didn't work.
Now the cables are sold as actual iPod cables, and they llook idential and no one else has had any problems. So I thought what about them using on other iPods in the house. I tried them on my sisters 3G, sisters 4G, nano 1G, nano 2G and nano 4G....and the cables worked. Every iDevice in the house worked with the cables but my iPod. The versions of the ipods are the same (4.3.3) and are all synced with the same computer.
But why isn't it working on mine. My iPod can charge with every cable BUT the ones that I recently bought. And every other iPod charges with the cables so it's not a problem with the cables.
    I'm using a iPod Touch 3G
    iOS version : 4.3.3
All help will be taken into account, and thanks in advance,
    xxSHABSxx

I didn't buy the cables from the Apple Store, I bought them from eBay. And it's not the cables problem as it charges every other device in the house.

  • VERY weird iPod problems...Please Help!

Okay, folks, do I have a doozy of a problem here.
Okay, first off, when I connected my iPod to the computer a week or so ago, it told me that there was a firmware update, so I downloaded it and installed it. That is where my problems began. Soon after, the iPod began to freeze a lot while playing songs. I would reset it, but it would continue to freeze while playing songs.
Next, I turned the iPod on yesterday after having not used it for 2 or 3 days and when it came on, ALL of my songs were gone. It said that there were ZERO songs on the iPod. But the kicker is that it still said that I had the same available space as when I had 3500 or so songs on it. (Don't worry, I have back-ups of those songs, so I didn't lose them).
So, I figured that I would try to reformat the iPod and maybe then things would start to work. That doesn't happen. When I try to run the updater (with or without the iPod initially connected via Firewire), it just sits there on "Initializing...." and freezes.
So I then figured that maybe I should just try to run the software that came with the iPod and maybe that would help. Well, last night I ran the software and after running through the entire line that lights up on "Waiting for iPod" 4 or 5 times, it told me that the iPod needed to be formatted. So I clicked the "Format" button. This morning, I came to check on things and it was still "Formatting" with no end in sight. It did not take this long when I originally installed the thing.
That made me think there might be a problem with the harddrive, but when I went into "Diagnostic mode" and ran the HDD scan, it came back as "Pass". Now, that may mean that there are still problems, but it's nothing I can think of how to fix at the moment.
This is my last resort before I call Apple and probably have to pay to get it fixed! By the way, I've had it since January of this year. Thanks for any help you guys can be!
    -Eric

First of all, replying with "I have had the same problem and Tech Support hasn't been able to help me at all!" is not going to help anyone.
In fact, it's kind of considered "thread-jacking" and is considered rude.
As for my problem, it has been solved (some-what). I succumbed to downloading Windows XP Service Pack 2 (which I had always heard was death for iPods so I avoided it) and things are now running. Not as smoothly as they did before updating to the latest iPod firmware, but still they're running.
My advice for the future, if you're having problems, start your own thread. Don't jump onto someone else's thread because no matter how similar your problems may be, there is no possible way that your problem could be EXACTLY the same as that other person. There are going to be differences between computer configurations, etc.

  • Weird iPod behavior

I don't know if this has anything to do with the upgrade (to ios 7).  This is the first time (since the upgrade) that I have tried to listen to a playlist for an extended period of time.  I was playing music through my AV receiver using my iPod (5th gen Touch) and the USB connector.  Everything went fine for about an hour.  Then, it just stopped, mid-song.  It made some kind of muffled electronic noise for a split second.  Immediately, I went over to look at the display.  It was a black screen with the white Apple logo in the center. When I pressed the Home button, it came right back to the regular home screen. Though it didn't seem like enough time had elapsed for a full reboot.  I also noticed that the LED display on my receiver said "no device" even though it was still plugged in. On the iPod, I went back to Music. "Playing Now" was on a different song from a different playlist.  NO IDEA what happened.  Nothing like this has ever happened before.  It seems OK now.  I plugged it into the AV receiver and it played fine, but I haven't tried to play another whole playlist.
Anybody have a similar experience... or have an idea what's happening?
    Help!

Thanks.  Thinking about what happened after the fact, it seems like the iPod just crashed and then came right back up.  It shouldn't be a resource issue, as it's got 64GB model with at least half free. Receiver plugged into a surge-protector. I hate that it might be a "usual" glitch, but fear you are probably right.  Hope it doesn't happen again.  Already had to restore once after upgrade.

  • Weird ipod error

About a week ago I charged my ipod like I usually do and when it was fully charged I unplugged it and listened to a song. Everything was working perfectly. About 2 hours later I came back but my ipod would not turn on. I tried reseting and all the other easy fixes but the thing still would not respond just an empty screen. I tried plugging it into my computer to reformat it but it still would not turn on or show up on my computer. I then plugged it into my wall charger but the back light just turned with nothing else showing up on the screen. When I plugged it into another charger it showed the "please wait, very low battery" message but its been in the charger saying that for several days. I have never had any battery problems before this. Any clues to what's going on here?

with that set of symptoms, we'd better check on the possibility from this document:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear

  • Weird iPod Behavior 3

So I get told by iTunes that my iPod is corrupted. Being a compliant person, I restore the iPod like I'm told to. It said that the Pod will appear in the source list when it is done, but I've been waiting for hours for it to appear. How long does it take? The Pod is fully charged, just not showing up. I'm really ticked as my mother and sister have not had nearly as much trouble with their iPods as I have.

I would suggest that you upgrade to 7.0.2.16, if you haven't already. Updating to the latest software of iTunes/iPod is one of the initial troubleshooting steps to try when you have iTunes/iPod problems sometimes.
Also, in what stage of the restoring was your iPod?
    Had you gone past:
The progress bar in iTunes, iTunes will tell you instructions 1 and 2 on the screen, then the iPod will partially restart, showing the Apple logo and the progress bar underneath it.
Then iTunes will tell you that your iPod will appear in the source list momentarily. After it restarted itself after the restore, and didn't appear in the source list, is that where you got "Do Not Disconnect", and the iPod not appearing in the source list?
Is that where you were in the restore process?
By the way, try putting your iPod into disk mode, then connecting it to your computer; see if your iPod is recognized after trying that.
