My wife and I share a calendar in a .mac account, but she has her own apple ID and iTunes account

I have long had a .mac account that I use mostly to share calendars among my machines, which include my desktop iMac and MacBook Air, and my wife's desktop Mac and her iPad. She has her own iTunes account which I don't need access to, we each have our own AddressBook and Mail accounts which we don't wish to share. All machines are iCloud capable.
We only wish to share claendars.
How do we accommodate this in iCloud?
Thanks,
Chuck

I've a related problem...I believe. I have a MobileMe account with two "email only" accounts. Both of the email- onlys are quite active with lots of emails. I want to move everything to the cloud.
My Question: must I follow a specific order of moving to iCloud in order to preserve the data on the mail-onlys? e.g. move the email-onlys first or move them last?  Or in some special manner. And I want to avoid much downtime? The "email only" kind of account doesn't seem to be listed in the documents I've read, except in my MobileMe  Account Summary.
TIA

    Welcome to the Apple community.
When you delete the old account from the phone, the data is only deleted from that device, it is not deleted from the cloud. As such you will not lose the data off your phone either.

  • New to Apple - Need help.  Here is the breakdown. I just got my wife a iPhone 4s and I'm trying to decide how to set it up. Should she get her own Apple ID or use mine? This for some reason is very confusing to me.

Here is the breakdown.  I just bought my wife a new iPhone 4s and I'm trying to decide how to set it up for her.  Should she have her own Apple ID or use mine?  If she uses my Apple ID, will that cause issues with iMessage - say when I'm chatting with someone else and vice a versa. Will our messages show up on each others devices?  How will a FaceTime call work?  Will the video call come across both our devices (ipad also)?
Just some information that might be of note:
I have the new iPhone 4s, iPad2 and one iTunes account - the iTunes account is my Apple ID which I use also for the iCloud (I think...it's getting murky
What am I trying to achieve is having the ability for me (iphone, ipad) and my wife (iphone) to be able to share and sync just music, apps, movies, etc...  I have Google Calender and I have not made up my mind yet if we will share a contacts list (I have large business list).  Also this might be of note, I most likely will be using iTunes on my LG LCD TV (appleTV) at some point in the near future.
So, basically I'm confused, which is not unusual for me.  If I'm thinking to much inside the box, please let me know and feel free to offer up any suggestions.  Even if the suggestion is I'm not asking the right questions.  Of course if that is your suggestion, then please tell me the question.  And an answer would be nice to.
    Thanks.

No it's not stealing. They have an allowance that you can share with so many computers/devices. You'll have to authorize her computer to play/use anything bought on your acct. You can do this under the Store menu at top when iTunes is open on her computer.
As far as getting it all on her computer....I think but I am not sure (because I don't use the feature) but I think if you turn on Home Sharing in iTunes it may copy the music to her computer. I don't know maybe it just streams it. If nothing else you can sign into your acct on her computer and download it all to her computer from the cloud. Not sure exactly how to go about that, I haven't had to do that yet. I wonder if once you authorize her computer and then set it up for automatic downloads (under Edit>Preferences>Store) if everything would download. Sorry I'm not much help on that.

  • HT3819 how can i share my lbrary wth my daughter who has her own apple id?

How can I share my music library with my daughter who has her own apple id?  She just got a new iphone and we set her up with her own id.  problem was all of her sosngs were on my library under my apple id.

If you want to share music, apps, books etc., you need to both use the same iTunes account. many people do this and still keep their own iCloud account so they keep their own mail, calendars, contacts etc.
If you want to share photos you will need to use the same iCloud account, even a secondary account won't help with photos..

  • My daughter and I listen to the same music with few exceptions. We currently are under my apple id if she gets her own apple id she no longer will be able to hook up to mine?

I am trying to figure out if I give her her own apple id does that mean we have to purchase the same songs in itunes so that she can have access to them? I mean, it seems silly since if I buy the songs, I should be able to share with my family. It is for everyones use but if I give her her own apple ID so she can buy her own music with her own password then that whole sharing thing is off? I don't want to give her full access to my account password... She is only 11. I don't want her to go on a shopping spree LOL! So how can I give her the freedom to download free apps etc but yet share the purchased items I have already? Will this icloud help with that. Can I share my music with someone else with a different apple ID? Help. Extremely confused. Thanks.

You can create a new account without giving credit card details by following the instructions on this page : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
And she can then use that account for free items. If she redownloads an item on her iPad (and similarly on your Mac) from an account (either your existing account or a new one) then she may tie the iPad to that account for 90 days (so she won't be able to redownload items from the other account until those 90 days have completed) : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627
Also all content is tied to the account that downloaded it, so only your account will be able to download updates to the apps that were bought/downloaded by your account.
The apps will only automatically download on your phone if you have automatic downloads turned on in Settings > iTunes & App Store on it.

  • HT204053 My daughter has been using my Apple ID, if she gets her own Apple ID, will she lose her purchases and contacts

My family has been using my Apple ID for apps and itunes. They now would like their own Apple ID's.
Do they lose previously purchased music, apps and contacts?

To begin with, I would like to try to explain Apple's confusing nomenclature in regard to iCloud.
Apple have called the whole cloud thing iCloud, there are a number of features under the iCloud umbrella, some of which require their own login. iTunes is one of these, another is what Apple have unfortunately also called iCloud too.
You can use the same Apple ID (account) to login to both iCloud and iTunes, but you don't need to and often users will login to each service using a different ID.
The part that you need to remember is that the services available when you log into iCloud are completely different and unrelated to those when you log in to iTunes. Your iCloud login enables mail, contacts, calendars, find my phone, Back to My Mac, Documents & Data sharing and photostream, it does not affect any of your iTunes services.

  • Can I share my iPad apps with my wife--she has her own iTunes account

I just bought my wife an iPad.  Can I share some of my apps with her?  We have different accounts and use different computers to sync.

Well, it's real easy if you use the same computer with the same computer login.  Just connect and go!  iTunes will keep track of which iPad is which by name.  The only minor nuisance is app updates.  You want to get into the habit of always using the iPads.  iTunes requires that you log out and back in again but the iPads handle it automatically.  You just have to remember the PW for both accounts.
I can't help you with two computers.

  • Mum and I used to share same Apple ID. Now she has her own. But when i turn on iCloud on my phone. All her address book linked to mine. What should I do?

I am so sorry, i am very new to this community. Mum and I used to share apple id. Also I created the iCloud with my apple id. Then i created my mum a new apple ID for her. However, her addressbook and phonebook still synced with my phone through iCloud. What should I do?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
If you have correctly set up a separate iCloud for your mother, then your contacts should not be syncing with your mothers. Are you absolutely sure that they are syncing and not just the same contacts.

I started my own Facetime account, separate from my wife's, but when I log on, her contact list is there.  How can I establish my own list without compromising hers?

  • Can i give me wife Itunes content if she has a different Apple ID/Itunes acccount?

    Hi folks,
Just bought the wife an ipad and the iTunes App is installed on it.
My wife has her own Apple ID and itunes account.
Her itunes account has little in it to date.
Is it possible for her to download an artist/track/album from my library for her own account/library through the local network?
I know that obviously you can just share libraries with firends etc, but thought as its the one local/home network there may be a way for here to add content to her library from mine, without her using my apple ID, changing my library, deleting tracks, compromising etc....??
I simply want to give her some of my apple purchased/matched music.
    Thanks folks, appreciate your help
    Simon.

Simon,  Does she have her own iTunes library on a computer, to which she syncs her iPad?  If so, the best way is to give her a copy of the song files, either by using a flash drive or by the iTunes Home Sharing capability.  She can add it to her own library , and then sync her iPad.
To your question about sharing, song files purchased from the iTunes Store are restricted to "personal, non-commercial" use.  The term us generally understood to allow sharing between related members of the same household, which is why Apple provides Home Sharing across multiple libraries over the same local network.

  • HT204074 I have our music collection on iTunes Match for my PC, ipad and iphone.  Can I share that music collection with my wife so she can play that with her iphone?  Even though she has a different Apple ID from me?

I have our music collection on iTunes Match for my PC, ipad and iphone.
Can I share that music collection with my wife so she can play that with her iphone?  Even though she has a different Apple ID from me?

Her iPhone will need to be set up to iTunes Match using your Apple ID to be able to share music via iTunes Match. Otherwise you'll have to download the music to your computer and then copy those tracks into her iTunes library, assuming hers is separate.
    Regards.

My wife and I each have an apple computer and an iPhone.  Setting them up with the iCloud put us on the same account.  I take a lot of photos on job sites and she takes her own photos we have to scan though each others photos to find our own.  How do I separate the accounts without one of us losing our own stuff?

Decide which device will be changing accounts.  On that device, if you have any photos in photo stream that are not in your camera roll that you want to keep on the device, save them to the camera roll by opening the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud.  The device(s) that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.)  When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iDevice.  Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom).  Then turn iCloud data syncing back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to the new account.
Finally, to delete any data that you don't want in each account (such as deleting your wife's data from your account, and vice versa) you will have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete it.
