My wife new macbook pro 5 months old does not start, it shows the power blinking , but no boot
hi,
my wife just bought a new macbook pro few months ago, and it sat on her desk , safe and without being moved around.
yesterday night the fans were blowing air like jet engines , but this morning it would not start again.
do you think we still can have it fixed my apple?it did not fall down or something, it sat on her desk.
Since this is a new machine and under warranty, simply go to Apple and let them handle it.

I have a 2007 Macbook, so it's probably a lot older than your Macbook Pro, but it sounds like what happened to me, except that mine hadn't travelled anywhere. I pulled out the ram and blew out some dust, popped them back in, and wha-la! it turned back on and worked better than ever! Or otherwise you've got a dud/old/warped/fried battery, which is also what happened to my laptop - it got so bad it did what your laptop is doing. Ordered a new battery online and all good since then. Or otherwise, like the previous post asked, 'is it plugged in?' -
Setting up my brand new MacBook Pro and it will not connect to the wifi network. Nothing wrong with the network which is happily working for my iPhone and iPad! Suggestions accepted for making this connection.
Fixing this is a two step process:
1) System preferences > WiFi/Airport ...
... check [√] Ask to join new networks
"Known networks will be joined automatically.
If no known networks are available, you will
be asked before joining a new network."
2) Remove unwanted networks from the list of "known" networks under
System preferences > WiFi/Airport > (Advanced) > | Airport/WiFi pane ...
Close the window and save changes. If no joy, do a restart to ensure you are playing under the new rules. -
PC does not start when pressing the power button, After that starts automatically like a ghost!
I have HP Pavilion a6030in, My pc does not start when i press ther power button, but it starts after sometime automatically after that it works fine.
Again when i shutdown and leave it for sometime, and still the problem is unsolved.

Macbook Pro 8.2 does not sleep when closing the led.
I have a macbook pro 8.2. When I close the led, it sleeps then wakes up immediately. I can't put it to sleep by closing the led becaus it will wakes up again. So, If I want to put it to sleep, I have to choose the sleep option from apple menu. I am affraid that it is a hardware problem, something wrong in the sensors.
Since this is a 8.2 MBP it is fairly new, I have an 8.2, it has still got a lot of the original 1 year warranty left on it.
Just how do you know it is not going to sleep when you close the lid? Does the monitor not turn off? Does the sleep light on the front not come one and then slowly go out and come on again (flash slowly) when you close the lid?
If the screen doesn't turn off or the sleep light doesn't come on and then flash slowly you need to take it in to get it fixed ASAP.
If those things are happening, the screen turns off and the sleep light comes on then goes out then back on slowly, the MBP is actually in sleep mode. Even if once you open the lid it comes right back to life wvwn if it doesn't ask for your password. This is a setting in system preferences. -
Hello. Need a little help. My Mac Book Pro is having start-up issues. I am running Snow Leopard on this computer. It is bootcamped up to run a PC portion as well. I started having this problem a few weeks ago. I tried to back up the drive, but it would not even let me do that. I wiped it clean (I had a relatively new back-up and it is secondary computer) and reinstalled the OS. It worked well for a couple of days, but started getting held up with opening the Finder on start-up and it woudl just get stuck. I am more than willing to pull the drive and install a new hard drive, but that might not be the main issue so I am looking for some assistance before the next wipe out.
When it was working for a couple of days, I tried to install OS X Lion, but it would not allow me to do so (some installation failure).
Anyway, should I retire this computer or install a new harddrive....
Any advice is welcome.
Dana brody, I will take a look. The internal drive works (i.e., the battery, it spins, etc.) it just has a bit of trouble recognizing all CD's so I tend to use the external one since it works consistently. Do you still think this might be the issue? The apple store told me a week after my extended warranty ran out that the drive should be replaced but that an external drive is not an isse, but that was a while back and this problem just started.

What is the exact name of the cable I need to connect my old hard drive from my macbook pro, which has been removed from the computer, to my new macbook pro? I need to transfere files from the old hard drive to the new computer.
No eSATA to USB. Just a SATA/IDE to USB adapter. Google SATA/IDE to USB adapter and you will get tons of links to buy them. Most likely your local computer electronics store has them, although they might be more expensive buying locally than online.
I have several. You can get either USB 2, which what I recommend, or USB 3. USB is backward compatible so a USB 3 adapter will work on a USB 2 port and a USB 2 adapter will work on a USB 3 port. Backward compatible in both directions.
I suggest a USB 2 type because there have been some problems with certain USB 3 devices, the USB 3 interface used isn't all that good in those certain devices. USB 3 is still fairly new where as USB 2 has been around for over 10 years.

Your Mac won't have an IP address, at least not a valid IP, until you actually connect it to your home LAN. Not sure why you think you need the IP, you don't.
To connect to your home WiFi you need to know the SSID name, IE the name of your home WiFi, and the password for it. Once you have those two things click the little antenna looking icon on the right side of the menu bar and select your home WiFi name and click connect. A dialog box will pop up asking for the password, type in the password and click OK/Connect/Whatever. -
As a new Macbook Pro user I was saddened to find that the feature of using keywords in iPhoto '11 does not allow showing same under each photo. I understand this was available in earlier versions. Any comments?

I have new MacBook Pro with OS 10.10. My MAIL program was working but suddenly won’t recognize my VERIZON FIOS server. FYI, the MAIL programs on my iPAD and old iMAC continue to work. No answer yet from Apple Support HELP!!!
Additional Information.
On my Mail Accounts setup it was set to "verizon.net" on incoming.
Now it faintly reads, "incoming.yahoo.verizon.net"

Started the transfer process from my old MacBook to a new MacBook pro using Migration assistant 12 hours ago. The screen says transferring your information. Moving about 270 GB using an Ethernet cable directly connected. Is this normal?
You can get a thunderbolt to firewire adapter. You can then get a firewire 400 to 800 cable and put the old computer in target mode. Then you can follow these instructions.

My macbook pro (August 2010) keeps freezing when apple mail starts up. This happens every 2nd time I turn on my Macbook Pro. This forces me to hold down the power button to restart my Macbook Pro. Does anyone else experience this, and is there a fix? Thx.
since upgrading to OS lion, my mac book pro (2010 August) keeps freezing (non responsive, requires restart) when i turn on my mac and the system is trying to open apple mail. while apple mail is attempting to collect new mail, the macbook pro freezes. this happens every 2nd time i try to start up my computer. this only started happening after i upgraded to OS lion. please let me know what I need to do to fix this. being forced to restart every 2nd time i turn on my macbook pro has been very frustrating. not sure if apple mail is also the cause of my macbook pro for being very slow during start-up (on the occasion the computer doesn't freeze).I am having similar 'freezing' problems with many programs (Mail, Safari, iTunes, etc.). I have done a clean install of Lion instead of an upgrade when it came out. Perhaps something went wrong with my install? I'm thinking about wiping and reinstalling.

I'm buying a new Macbook Pro this week and am wondering what is the best way to copy over the software I have from my existing Macbook Pro to the new one? eg. Photoshop and Office etc. I no longer have the CDs.
Ya know what I'm on a brand new MBP just about 24 hours old and you know whats been working amazingly for me. I have a 27inch iMac as well and i've just connected it to my network and been dragging files and apps across the network onto my new MBP. Its really working fast and its flawless. You could always do that option, Just go into sharing options and turn them on for both Macs. Then just click and drag. Of course they have to both be on the same network for this to be possible.
Look at my network.
Shared is what your looking at. I click on there see all my computers files and then drag the ones i want form its folder to my MBP folders. Hope that helps if your looking for a very simple way on a wireless network. -
MacBook Pro late 2013 does not show login window after waking from sleep
MacBook Pro late 2013 does not always prompt for login, but opens directly to desktop, even though security settings are setup to prompt for password after 5 minutes. Up to now, this only has happened on battery, machine goes to sleep or lid is closed, 10 minutes pass, lid is opened and desktop is shown instead of lock screen. Console shows, that the machine was actually sleeping (10 min no log entries) and also does not show any error in regards to login window.
This behaviour occurs randomly and I could not track down any root cause/behaviour, yet. Sometimes everything behaves as it should.
Any ideas?

I'm not 100% sure if it started when I put a SSD in my old iMac 2009 (as a fusion drive) or if that's after that when I upgraded to Yosemite...
I did disable auto poweroff like suggested in another thread : Mac freeze during the night sleep.
sudo pmset -a autopoweroff 0
We'll see if it helps.

try disabling email scanning for incoming mail.
One of the last things that occurs is the mail server and Thunderbird sign off on "where we are up to" and Thunderbird stores this state information in the popstate.dat file in your profile (there is one in each POP mail account folder). If the anti virus, or you for that matter, end the conversation a few seconds early that hand off does not occur and the popstate is not stored.
