My wife surprised me with Apple TV, not the new one. Am I stuck?

I had been telling my wife that eventually, I wanted to add Apple T.V. to our home entertainment center. She listened, and boldly--for her--walked into the Apple store to get one for my birthday. Of course, I've been following with interest the rumors of a new IPad, Apple TV, etc, so I knew not to buy one.
When she tried to purchase, they were "out", always a sign of a new release, but offered to order one for her. Now I have it, in the box, unopened. Is it new or old, and can I return it if, horror of horrors, it is the old version? Mahlon Tate

As long as it unopened you can return it and get the New ATV on the 16th. It the exact same price as the 2nd gen ATV.

Go to Settings -> icloud and then you should see your icloud id, scroll to the bottom and select delete account, you are then able to add your new one.

Any apps you have installed from the old AppleID will always be tied to that AppleID. You have no choice but to enter the password for the old AppleID if you want to update apps downloaded using that ID.
The only way to stop being asked for the password for the old AppleID is to remove all apps from the device that were downloaded using that old AppleID.
You'd then need to re-download (and re-purchase) any apps you want to keep using under the new AppleID.
Apps cannot be transferred between AppleIDs.

Yes, absolutely, you can still use the old ID to update, etc., but I understood the OP to want to simply discard the old one and use only the new one. Maybe I misunderstood...
And, actually just now re-reading the first post, it could be that the ID had only been associated with the iDevices, so if he established a new ID and associated that with the new MBP, I frankly have no idea if he can still use the old ID on that machine (based on him saying that the old ID is greyed out) - have not come up with this type of situation before.

This will only create problems for you.
All iTunes pruchases are tied to the AppleID purchased with.
Just use the old AppleID. You can update it if needed.

You don't say which version of iTunes you are using, but the symptoms you describe have been encountered by some users with the 64-bit version of iTunes 12.1.
There is an alternative version for 64-bit editions of Windows here:

that seems to address the most of the playback issues that some users have been reporting with the full 64-bit version of 12.1.0.77 - including problems with Bluetooth speakers where either sound is degraded or completely absent. The point is that there are four i product users for one computer in my house, and not everyone wants the same music on their device. Like I said before, the ipod is not syncing to the new library even though I plug it in when the new itunes library is pulled up. It keeps syncing to the old library...

The iphone 5 can only be located if connected to a data or mobile network. If in Airplane mode or switched off, it can't be found.

Suggest that you find out why the amber light is flashing.
Assuming that you have recent model Mac.......Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the amber dot
Another window will open
If you see an Update button, click it. The light was flashing to tell you an update was available.
Otherwise, look at the setting for Status and click on the small amber dot there. Report on the message that you see.

So i had an old apple id i had created to use with my ipod but never ended up syncing them. So when i got my iPhone i created a new apple ID with my new email address. Well i went to log into itunes store on my computer (PC) and it wont let me log in with my new apple ID, just the old one. I get the same message everytime i try it: "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The iTunes store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later." so i did try again. and again. and again. its been a few weeks now and it gives me the same message everytime. Its frusterating because everytime i sync my iPhone to my computer to backup and whatnot, all the music i bought on my phone doesnt sync and undownloads itself from my phone. What can i do??

How do you reset the Apple ID to a new one for the automatic updates download tool? It defaults to my old Apple ID, even though I have changed the Apple ID to the new one everywhere I can find.

I have an original Apple ID from my personal iPhone and iPad. I bought a MacBook Pro for business and the Apple Store clerk told me to use the old Apple ID to make setup faster and that I could change to a new one later. So... I did all that and changed the Apple ID everywhere I can find a place to do so. And everything seems okay, except the Automatic Updates download tool defaults back to my original Apple ID. That old Apple ID is grayed out in the login, so I cannot seem to change it to download and update under my new, business-related Apple ID for my MacBook Pro. What to do?

my apple tv is 2 years old. my old email address reflected in it. i never hooked it up until yesterday. how do i delete the old email to the new one so i can sync with Itunes? i changed my apple ID but still it didnt take.
