My wifes iPad has a lock sign against it . . .

My wife's iPad has a lock sign against her Home WIFI and she can  only use WIFI through nearby spots.  How do I unlock it for her, please?   I've tried the turning off and Home button together but t hat doesn't work.   TIA.

The lock is normal.  It means you network is secured and requires a password.
The password is case sensitive, enter it together, one of you watching the screen to make sure upper and lower case is correct.   Make sure you are entering letter O or number 0
Have you connected mobile devices before?
Is your router a push to connect?   (After pushing button you have 2 minutes to enter password and connect)
What happens after you enter password?  Does it say, failure to join network?
What router and internet speed do you have?
I find a dual channel, 2.4 and 5 GHZ router connect well.   Older single channel and 2.4 GHZ only are very poor at connecting to most mobile devices.

Where abouts ? If it's at the top of the screen next to the battery indicator then you have rotation lock 'no'. Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (rotation lock or mute notifications), then you can lock/unlock the rotation by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

My MacBook Air says it in connected to my wifi, but my wifi signal has a "!" sign on it. My computer will not allow internet access, help?

When you see an exclamation point in the Wi-Fi menu, from the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network
Click the Assist me button and select Assistant. Follow the prompts. You may get a warning that Wi-Fi is not available, that you're too far from the base station, or that you're using the wrong password.
Assuming that you've ruled out those possibilities, restart the computer and try again. If there's no change, click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the preference pane and authenticate, if necessary. From the Location menu at the top of the window, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click  Applyand test.
If there's still no connection, and if you have control of the router, compare its settings to Apple's recommendations. Some third-party routers may be incompatible in 802.11b/g/n radio mode. Try setting the mode to 802.11n only.

Since updating my iPad 2 to IOS6 and activating my icloud for backup, my iPad has permanently locked. Message on screen is "iPad Not Backed Up". I click ok but no response. Cannot turn power off and cannot restore via my pc itunes. What are my options?

Thanks to everyone who responded and related subject helped. Holding the home button and power button simultaneously for 10-15 seconds does unlock the screen. I can now use my ipad again. However, a futher problem has arisen since updating to IOS6 and activating icloud at same time, Although not sure if its related. The problem is that when connected to my PC the itunes message appears 'Cannot read ipad'. It instructs you to restore but keeps timing out after about 1 hour. This maybe internet issue but can't understand why itunes cannot read my ipad. May need to completely erase all content & reset. Or any other suggestions why this has happened?

You may need to put the iPad into recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808 - you should then be able to reset it via your computer's iTunes and restore your last backup to it

  • I can't join a network, because everytime I type in the password, join greys out.  It has a lock sign next to the network name, but I'm not sure how to unlock it.

I can't join a network, because everytime I type in the password, "join" turns grey.  There's a lock sign next to the network name, but I'm not sure how to unlock it.  Can you help me??

The way you "unlock" it is by typing in the correct password. The lock indicates a private network that requires a password. Are you sure you have the correct password? Is this your own home network?
Why don't you reboot your iPad and try to log in again. Hold down on the sleep button until the Apple logo appears on the screen, let go of the button and the iPad will shut off. Turn back on by pressing the sleep button again until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. See if the iPad will accept your password.
If that doesn't work, you could try tapping the blue arrow next to the network name and then tap Forget This Network. Restart your iPad as described above. Then go back to settings, tap WiFi, select the network and enter the password again and see if it works.

  • IPad has us locked out

Apple associate suggested we back up the iPad and update the software, we did just that and now it has us locked out asking for a PUK?

For anyone running across this, I found the answer on here after 24 hours!!! There is a little key in your box that your iPad came in, that will pop out the sim card and if you remove the sim (remeber to pop back in the holder, you don't want to loose that) Once the Sim card was out we were able to restore the iPad with our back up and have one happy kids and one relieved mama

  • HT1414 My ipad has been locking up

My Ipad 2 has been freezing, locking up and or going black and restarting since the last iOS update...or possibly some app updates? Not sure. Anyone else experiencing this?

Shouldnt be happening sounds like something might have gone wrong with the update. I would restore the iPad via iTunes then restore from backup if you have one.

  • Email overnight from "Find My iPhone" states iPad has been locked

My iPad was locked overnight 4:00 AM.  I received an email about this and found that the iPad was, in fact, locked.  I do not know what the passcode is.  There are multiple threads on resetting a passcode from a backup, but I'm concerned about how my device was locked.  I have reset my Apple account password, reset questions, and birthday (based on feedback from the forums.)  If I was hacked, I am grateful that the hacker didn't seize my account by changing my password.  Has anyone else experienced this?  My password was simple (dictionary attack could have gotten it), but does Apple login security actually allow brute force attacks to occur?  Is there any way to figure out how this reset occurred?

I have my iPad back, but I still don't know how my account was compromised.  I may never know, so I've disabled everything I can to prevent unauthorized purchases or remote machine wipes.  My confidence in Apple is shaken, to say the least.  It's one thing to brute force a simple password, but how would they get the username?

  • My iPad has started to sign out of all applications and go back to home screen is this an known issue and can this be fixed??? :(

My iPad is only a few months old but lately when I click on any applications its closes out and goes back to the home screen. This is driving me mad, because I do love my iPad, but now its seriously making me question why I bought it. Please help

Have you used any sort of "tuner" software? You are obviously an advanced user. Sometimes we hack things up and forget about it later. If you are sure you didn't do that, maybe poke around with IPv6 settings. Supposedly people are trying to enable that and it is going to be a disaster.

  • My Ipad has been locked (after wrong passcode) and tried to connect to Itunes but no success. Much appreciated for your help please.
