My Windows friends cannot save my iPhoto attachments in Mail: what's wrong?

I use iPhoto to mail pictures to my family; some of whom (still) have Windows computers (the poor buggers). Unfortunately they can only save individual pictures one by one, not "Save all attachments" as Mac's Mail app allows. While in Mac's Mail application the email appears with attachments, in Window there are no attachments, but the pictures seem to have become part of the message itself
I have tried to change the format to Rich Text or Plain Text (in Mail>Preferences>Composing>Message Format), but this does not seem to make any difference.
Any suggestions/pointers/solutions/clarification? Thanks in advance. Cheers, Veit

In addition to Terence's suggestion have you tried using the windows friendly attachments option in Mail?

  • Cannot Save an iPhoto attachment in Mail

I receive an email with a photo. I use Apple Mail pgm.  Near the top of the email there is a pull down Save menu with an option to save that photo to iPhoto.
Unfortunately it has not worked since I installed Mountain Lion months ago. Am i doing something wrong?  Does the feature no longer work?  Too Frustrating.

It is not working - there are several work arounds discussed in different threads on this forum
One sure one is to drag the photos to the iPhoto icon in the Dock to improt them

  • My windows friends cannot read attachments from my e-mails

My Windows friends cannot read attachments from my e-mails

If the attachments are common files that your recipients should be able to read (PDF, DOC, TXT) then what is the setting when you select the menu command Edit > Attachments > Always Send Windows-Friendly Attachments (checked or unchecked).
If it's unchecked you should check that setting and retry.

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Since upgrade to Windows 8, cannot save .rdp files under the Remote Desktop Connection application on the Desktop

Since I upgraded to Windows 8, I am no longer able to save individual Remote Desktop Connection files as .rdp files. I am talking about the traditional Remote Desktop Connection application on the Desktop that was in previous Windows versions, not the
Remote Desktop App from the Windows 8 store.
When I try to click on the Save button I get "An error occurred while saving to file"
When I try to click on the Save As button I get "Unable to open connection file" with the file address being where I tried to save it with the file name at the end.
Also when I upgraded to Windows 8, my .rdp files disappeared from my Documents folder.
I need to create different .rdp files for different programs that my employees get into on my server. Now I have to hand type all the info each time into the Programs tap on the Remote Desktop Connection window, because I can't save to an
    .rdp file.
I like the Remote Desktop App from the Windows store but it won't let me designate specific programs to use using standard dos notation (ie c:\program files\ etc..). It just goes to my server desktop.
I want to promote Windows 8 to my employees but I need either .rdp files for the traditional Remote Desktop Connection or the ability to open specific programs using dos notation in the Windows Store Remote Desktop App.

You don't need to worry too much about what's in here. Save the text file as
filename.rdp then rightclick on the file and select edit. The familiar GUI rdp session editor will open. You can make changes in the GUI and
save or save as a different session.
     Hope this helps.

  • Iphone will not sync computer running windows XP cannot save backup

I have Iphone 4 running version 4.3.5 when I try to syn with iTuneson my computer running Windows XP I get the message "canot save Backup"  any thoughts how to resolve?

Trying it again worked. The only difference between this time and the last time was that this time I let the sync process do its backup. So, for anyone else, before trying drastic steps to fix the issue, I'd suggest just updating to the latest iOS (I did it via USB, it probably doesn't matter though) and letting the sync process do ALL of its thing.

  • Sending window friendly photo attachments

Since upgrading to Yosemite and changing from entourage to Mail
When I send photos from desktop of Iphoto they leave looking like they should. i.e they are attached to the email but when they are they are only pictures and no attachments and no paperclips on email
Window friendly attachment Box is ticked and in mail preferences .

Windows Friendly attachments means the resource fork is stripped from files so it's less confusing for Windows machines.
but when they are they are only pictures and no attachments and no paperclips on email
Do you mean 'but when thy are received...?
How things turn up on the receiver's machine has a lot to do with the settings there... Try sending plain text emails.

  • I cannot save a picture emailed to my macbook air to iPhoto?

i cannot save a picture sent by email to iphoto on my macbook air. i can do this process on my Imac, any ideas as to why this can't be done.

Quite a few people have reported issues with "Save to iPhoto" directly from mail recently.
But surely you could, for example, save the mail attachment to, say, your desktop and then drag it from there to iPhoto.

  • Why firefox cannot save print file in win64 bit?

In this windows ,I cannot save any print file.(like Adobe PDF,XPC Document Writer,...) my computer goes to hang.(unknown problem) before I can type file name to save my computer.
But I can print web page to my printer.
So I reset print config in about:config.(in my 2 PC) but no difference.
But in 32 bit version windows, is working.I checked in windows virtual PC, I can save print file.
Could you check and resolve this problem?

It's probably a JavaScript problem, since those pop-up windows are controlled by JavaScript code. That's not uncommon with Safari. It's likely the JavaScript coding is suspect; Safari seems to be especially sensitive to that.

  • Do I have a virus?  My windows PC friends cannot open attachments from my Mac.

I'm runing OSX 10.7.4 on an iMac  and a Macbbok pro -- both late 2009 vintage.  People cannot open my attachments.  When I send an email attachment to an email from from Mail 5.2(1278) people using PCs are able to open the emails, but unable to open attachments whether .pdf, .docx, or .doc.  I have confirmed that "Always send windows friendly attachmdents" is checked.  In addition, the pdfs could not be opened on an iPad (didn't try the Word docs).  Do I have a virus?  Whether a virus or not... PLEASE help me make it stop!!!

I don't think you have a virus.  Probably, somehow the windows recipient is not able to handle the way the attachment is sitting inside the mail message.
Try this: take the attachement, zip it (control-click, Archive) and send the resulting zip file. Once the recipient unzips the file they, hopefully, will be able to see a usable file.

  • Windows users cannot open window friendly attachments

    Hello All,
I have sent "windows friendly" attachments from Mail but Windows recipients cannot open the attachments. This is with .tiff , .pages, etc. I have also tried to change the file name to .doc, .tif, etc. The only attachments that seem to work are .pdf . The check box "send windows friendly" is always checked.
    Any way around this?

I tried it and it works. From Pages I did this:
    1.
    2. Clicked Word Doc.
    3. Then saved to desktop so it is easy to find
At first what I did was attach a "Windows Friendly" from Mail. Which you would think would make it "ok" for a pc user. Guess not... (see below)
    Thanks for everybody's help!

  • Attaching multiple windows friendly attachments in Mail

I am able to attach a single file to a piece of outgoing mail in Mail, and have that file appear as an attachment that I can open up in Outlook.  However, if I select multiple files to attach to a piece of mail and the "windows friendly attachment" option is checked, those attachments show up embedded in the Outlook mail and not as separate attachments.
How can I send multiple windows friendly attachments in a single piece of mail and have them show up as separate attachments in outlook?

I seem to have solved this problem, which was that my daughter (on Windows) could not save attachments that I sent her in emails, and had other problems.
    My solution is:
    1. Mail > Edit >Attachments: Check "Always insert attachments at end of message".
    2. After composing the text of a message in Mail, drag your image or its icon on to Mail's window and drop the icon at the end of the message. Voila (for me at least). If you drop the image icon at the top of the text, the image gets transmitted but not the text (!!!) (Ain't Apple wonderful!).
    3. My daughter sees the image, opened, at the bottom of the message and by Right-Clicking on it she can save the image (she typed .jpg after the image title and got a jpg.)
    Hope this works for you.
