My windows pc wont recognize my ipod

i downloaded the updater and itunes but the updater says "plug in an ipod to update it" even if it is connected and itunes also does not recognize my ipod

Ahh, Windows is fun! Try doing a right click on my computer then clicking manage. Expand disk management and make sure that you are able to see the ipod on the list of available drives and be sure that it's not interefearing with other mapped drives (if you have them).

PC with windows 8 wont recognize either of my 2 ipods. itunes software is current.

Take a look at this MBP, a refurbished unit.  Don't let the late 2011 release date put you off.  For about  $500 less than an equivalent 'new' one with similar specifications you get a quad core CPU and excellent graphics.  As Steve359 mentioned, this can be upgraded if the need arises and has the same warranty as a 'new' one
I would not be surprised that these may actually be 'new' MBPs due to the length of time that they have been replaced by the current generation.  I purchased a 17" model about 5 weeks ago, and a serial number check suggests that it is 9 weeks old.

    Hello xerxes.nashion,
It sounds like your iPod is not recognized by iTunes or your MacBook Pro.  I recommend following the steps in the article below for an issue like this:

  • Windows will not recognize my ipod

My windows will not recognize my ipod. I tried running the latest Ipod Updater several times and received the following error message: Ipod requires Windows 2000(SP) or Windows XP, Please update your software and try again. I have Windows XP so I'm a bit confused to why I'm receiving that error message.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I already tried "re-starting" my ipod and that didn't work either.

Unfortunately, there is no one ‘Silver Bullet’ answer for this issue. Many things can contribute to the problem. Here are various ‘generic’ solutions that you can try in an effort to correct your problem. One should work. These are listed in simplest to more involved order (usually).
First, make sure that the iPod is fully charged.
Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.
Try closing and re-starting iTunes. There have been cases where iTunes refuses to see an iPod, but after re-starting, it works again.
Also try re-booting the entire computer. Especially if the PC has been operating for a long time &/or many programs have been opened and closed, repeatedly.
Other USB connected peripherals may be the cause as well. Try removing all connected USB items and attaching the iPod. If you have a USB keyboard, it may be worth a try using the adapter to convert it to non-USB. If the iPod connects, continue plugging things back in until you have the problem return. You may have then isolated the issue. Sometimes it could be a printer, camera, Flash Card reader, or other attached device causing a conflict.
If your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter:
    -- Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management
-- Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”
-- Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused (Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” or something similar)
    -- Safely eject the iPod
    -- Reboot the PC
If that doesn't work, Put Your iPod into Disk Mode then plug it in and you should be able to Restore the iPod
Your PC may have difficulty with the USB2 protocol and the iPod. See this Article for a possible solution: iPod not Recognized Correctly
Also try these hints (and the other suggestions above) from any other USB port you may have on the PC. Sometimes switching USB ports can make all the difference.
    Also See:
Your Windows PC doesn't recognize iPod
iPod does not appear in iTunes or on the desktop
iPod appears in Windows Explorer but does not appear in iTunes“Strange iPod Behavior within Windows”
If you are getting a ‘Missing Drivers’ message, try this:
    1. Go to http://www.driverguide.com and register (free)
    2. Download ‘usbstor.sys’ & ‘usbstor.inf’ to your PC and place them in your i386 Folder
    3. Update both drivers by selecting the two files you just downloaded
    4. Reboot computer
    5. Open iTunes and then connect you iPod
If all the above fails, you may have a Virus, Malware or SpyWare problem.
If you do find that your Device Manager is blank, you should probably check up on this issue first: No Items Appear in the Device Manager List When You Open It

  • Pc wont recognize my ipod touch

what do i do if my pc wont recognize my ipod touch

I had the same problems following the updater update on my ipod and pc. it became so bad that the mini pod became fried and i brought it back under warranty for a new one (and service charge of about $35 to swap them out!). When I got home I reinstalled all of the software from installation to itunes and it seemed to work. then i updated as prompted to the newer ipod software and got a serious error message again like before on my ipod and off and on recognition on itunes. i erased software again, reset pod a few times, and reinstalled without allowing the ipod updater to do anything to the original software. now it works again. warning against the updater. keep it old and simple.

  • Computer wont recognize 10GB Ipod Gen 3 - Please Help

Alright, Im not an idiot and I read every post related to this subject. I reviewed each of the following links and did everything they told me to do:

I recently upgraded to the newest iTunes version and now my older Ipod is no longer recognized by my computer. iTunes doesnt open, it just gives me an error message in the bottom right corner saying Unknown Device. Ive tried looking for / updating drivers, reseting, everything and nothing works. I tried every USB port on my laptop as well. Running Win XP. Can anyone offer any other suggestions on how i can fix this???
    Thanks

Its been working perfectly for 4 years until last week. I have the USB/FireWire combo for hooking it up to my computer. It worked with all the older version of iTunes and now that 7.1.1 is on there, it wont recognize it at all. The computer is convinced there are no drivers for the "unknown device" and all searches performed for the missing drivers come up empty. The computer cannot see the iPod as an iPod, and none of this happened until I downloaded the most recent iTunes.

  • Windows 7 will recognize one ipod but not the other?

I previously owned a 2nd gen iTouch, which would not be recognized by Windows or iTunes. The funny thing is, iTunes would recognize a 4th generation ipod nano that I also had. So I thought there was something wrong with my iTouch, so I went and bought a 4th generation iTouch.
I came home with it 2 days ago, and found that the same issue occurred. Windows 7 and iTunes will recognize my ipod nano, but not my new iTouch. I have attempted to use a friend's laptop, and both the Windows 7 and the iTunes will recognize both the nano and the iTouch, so I'm assuming that there's something wrong with either my laptop or the configurations in Windows 7.
I have already completed the uninstall and reinstall of iTunes and related programs as per the Apple Support instructions, to no avail. I've also checked to see that all my USB ports and devices are up to date. I was on the phone with Apple support for 4 times and in the Apple store today. I found that iTunes will recognize the new iTouch when I put it in recovery mode. (At which time it requests that I Restore my brand new iTouch. Then gives me a 'hardware error 1611', and the iTouch goes missing again.)
It would be very much appreciated if somebody would be able to give me a push in the right direction? Thank you so much!

    They are different devices.
The ipod supports disk mode, the ipod touch does not.
The ipod can be use like a flash drive the ipod touch cannot.

  • Windows/updater wont acknowledge my iPod, but will acknowledge another iPod

Hi, I just got an iPod Nano for my birthday from a friend, it had no installation disk, but was unused. I tried to install the iPod into my PC by connecting it through the USB port in the front. My windows says "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it. For assistance..." I tried everything that windows suggested, and it wasn't any help,i downloaded the updater(newest version was june i believe)and not even the updater would recognize it being there, it would promt me to plug it in, and when i did, it wasn't acknowledged. So i tried to piece together my own way to find out where the problem lies (its either the USB cord, the USB port, my PC, or the iPod itself). So i had a friend bring over their iPod nano, and they hooked it up to my computer through the same USB port, and to our amaze, it was acknowledged by my compter, AND the updater that i downloaded, so this elminated my problem being the port, cable, pc.
I tried to restore my iPod, and putting it into disk mode, looking at the iPod, and using it there seems no problem except using it to connect to my Pc, the only difference between our two ipods is one that worked is version 1.1 and mine is 1.0, this is becoming very frustrating, and getting through to phone support was impossible because the lines were too busy. If ANYONE can offer some advice or ways to help fix this, it would be very helpfull.
    Thank you,

I am having the same exact issue with my 3rd Gen.
iPod. When i plug it in using firewire my computer
doesnt recognize it at all and it says that it is
charging. i bought a new cable. didnt work and
returned it. bought a new firewire card. didnt work.
tried the 5 R's except restoring because i cant
because i cant connect it to the computer.
basically tried everything. even reinstalling the
software for iTunes and iPod software. any
    suggestions?
i'm having the exact same problem, nobody has given me a solution short of what i found here http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=85168

  • Windows doesn't recognize my ipod

I have the 30gb video ipod and when i was playing a game it froze. So I connected it to my computer and itunes loaded up and it said my ipod was currupt and i should reinstall the software. So I did and it started to when my computer froze (which has only happened once before). So i turned off my computer and restarted it, but then it wouldn't recognize my ipod and i can't get itunes to find the ipod so i can't update the software. And windows keeps on saying no drivers are found on the ipod so i can't really do anything with my ipod.
Does anyone have any idea how to get my ipod to be recognized by itunes and/or windows?

I brought it into the store and they were able to restore itfor me.

  • Windows won't recognize my iPod - USB device not recognized

This is really frustrating. So I got a 4gb iPod nano on Saturday, took it home, set it up and everything was going just fine, no worry's. About 4 hours later I went to adjust my songs and it would not come up in iTunes. A little pop-up box said that the "USB device not recognized - one of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it." After owning my iPod for less than an afternoon, I now have an ipod that I can do nothing to including change the music, charge it, etc. It works normally otherwise, it just won't connect to my computer. I then plugged in my older 256mb usb stick, and the same message, it too does not get recognized by windows. So I then tried a brand new 1gb usb stick that I had and the same result, not recognized by windows. I updated my itunes to the latest one after purchasing my ipod (version 7.4.3.1) and have looked up everything that I can and tried everything I saw to try, but nothing, absolutely nothing, worked. However my usb mouse, usb joystick, and usb printer all still work, but my moniter that has four usb outlets on it causes the same message, if I plug in the cable that connects one usb on my computer to the four on my moniter, windows can not recognize it. When I look in my device manager at the "unknown device" under the usb controller list it says that there is not driver for it, however I know that the drivers are either on my computer or built into windows. Any help? Anybody have an idea about what to do? Is it something in my windows registry has changed because of the new itunes, etc.?

Now that I've had some sleep, I realise I didn't really provide information that may lead to some specific help. Here goes - when I first plugged in the ipod nano (8gb), It displayed the screen it was supposed to - I could see the lightning bolt through the battery icon and knew it was charging. The icon for the ipod also appeared in the left-hand listing in itunes (in the section that existed under Library, before the sections Store and Playlists). This section now does not appear (I can't remember the title of this section, but it might have been 'devices'). In fact, I'm pretty sure this problem started when I clicked on this icon - nothing happened and it disappeared - so did the display on the ipod, which is not just the apple. This means itunes has only Library, Store and Playlist in the left-hand colunm. While I accept that computers do not work on normal logic, this seems to me to indicate that the drivers are fine, the system is fine, my laptop is fine - its the ipod or the usb cord. This morning as I tried again, this time my laptop gave me the option to 'click on the balloon to solve the problem' - let me quote: "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognise it. Try reconnecting the device. If Windows still does not recognise it, replace the device". Come on folks - one of you will surely know how to fix this (short of me taking the ipod back to the store to get my money back).
