My wireless device password. (Mifi 2200)

Recently I've purchased the Mifi 2200 from verizon and it works as epected, but when I access the devices IP address (192.777.Blah.blah) It asks for a password.  To my knowledge, I haven't set this password before.  Is there a default password that this device uses?
Please note that I am not referring to the code needed to access the web through the device.  I can access the web just fine.  but once in the web browser, I enter the deviced IP in the address bar.  for most router type devices, 192.168.1.1 is the address they can be reached at from LOCAL computers.  (someone not connected to this device can't reach mine using this IP)

Thank you to the community for your replies.
I can understand your frustration in having password issues with your device. Here's a link to the manual. The default password maybe admin. If not I'm sure with the user manual you will be able get the device set up with your router. Hopes this helps. Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thank you

  • Using HP 6500 Wireless with Verizon MIFI 2200

Is it possibe to use my HP 6500 all in one with built in wireless with a Verizon MIFI 2200 at the same time...all on one wireless connection from my laptop?       Thank You
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Well i  took a chance that this might  work...what i did was set up MIFI then once wireless put printer software cd in laptop and went to network connections tab on main menu...after a few steps it allowed me to enter the wep key and magically it was printing wirelessly and on the internet at the same time. At least it is right now.

  • Mifi 2200...Weak signal(not internet) for connecting my wireless devices.

Right now If i set this thing on top of my pc or ps3 it will detect the devices but if I move 5 feet away it looses signal. New to this wireless internet stuff and I'm not really digging the mifi 2200 at all. Is there a device I could buy that would give out a stronger signal then mifi 2200 or a device I could connect to the mifi 2200 that would do the job it's supposed to?

Okay, specify 5' away.  Is it actually that distance and if so, are there any other wireless radio signals bouncing around that may be concentrated in that particular area.  i.e. leapfrog, baby monitors, cordless phones, etc.
Have you fully charged the device?  What computer Operating system do you have? How many devices are connected to the WIFI signal?  Is your PC a laptop or desktop?
The reason I ask is that the MIFI normally has a wide range of broadcast for it's signal and if there are no other possible causes for the signal interruption, you may need to seek replacement.
Also, log into the web interface for the device while you have it in the optimal connection area then move it and check the status on the device for any type of changes in the administration software.  I also need to ask if you are disconnected from the USB cord.  Should be, but gotta ask.

  • MiFi 2200 wireless connection issue

I have similar issues as I have seen others post.
I can access the internet if I direct connect the mifi 2200 direct to my laptop.
The mifi 2200 does connect wirelessly but it has limited connectivity status and the internet is not accessible.
The other oddity is whether I have the mifi 2200 directly connected thru the USB cable or wireless I am unable to connect to the device's IP address.
I can't figure out if it is a device issue or configuration issue.
I am presently waiting for tech support to call me back. 1.5 hours last night with tech support was no help.
Techs suggestion: take your laptop and mifi 2200 to a Verizon store for help... uhh NO.
Any body got any other suggestions while I wait for my call back?

PDCLarry, Good know that I should not be able to get to the mifi's console if I have the device tethered.
But I still can't get to the console thru the wifi connection, still has limited connectivity status. The vz access sw that is on the mifi had a FW upgrade exe file. No update was done, newest version currently installed and yes it is 159
I tried the paperclip reset with tech support with no luck and have done it again, holding the reset down for 15+secs
I knew I should have just gone to the chill cook off instead of jacking with this thing all day.... Very annoying.
I'm having the same issue. I have two laptops ... one with Windows XP and the other with Windows 7. I tether the MiFi to my WIndows 7 box and it works. But when I make it a hotspot the Windows 7 box won't connect but the XP box will.
What I have noticed in the admin of the MiFI is that  the Windows 7 box is connecting via ARP while XP connects via DHCP. So the IP address assigned to the Windows 7 box is outside of the MiFi's DHCP (192.168.1.24) range while the XP box is within the range (192.168.1.2).
So if you are using Vista or Windows 7 we need to find a way to change the wireless adapter from connecting via ARP to DHCP. Or maybe increase the DHCP range of the MiFi device to include the ARP range.
I'll test some more and send an update,

  • How Do I Connect An Airport Extreme With Password to another Wireless Devic

We have a setup for two different wireless devices so that there are multiple locations that can get online, but the entire setup has no passwords assigned. We would like to assign passwords to both wireless devices so that only the appropriate people are getting online. How does one do this?
The first wireless device that connects directly to the modem from the phone company is a brand new Apple Airport Extreme. The computer that set up the device so that people can get a signal was from a PC that is directly connected to the Airport Extreme via an ethernet cable. Also connected to the Airport Extreme is an ethernet cable that goes (50-100ft) to another wireless device - by Netgear - which then sends out another signal to pick up wireless internet, which is the signal/network that I work from.
If we assign a password to the Airport Extreme, I'm guessing it will complete screw up the connection to the Netgear. How would that be dealt with? And, how could we then, if we wanted, set up a password for the Netgear as well. I've read some initial information on the user guide CD and online, but I don't know the terminology of whether these are networks or just wireless devices 'bridged' together, etc.
My biggest concern, is it works right now, but the owner of the devices wants to put passwords on it and I want to make sure we can keep it working even with passwords. Does anyone know how to easily set up passwords and can I do it from my computer even though they were initially set up by a PC? Or do I have to do it from the PC and if so, how, because I am completely a Mac person and am very unfamiliar with Windows. Thanks.

Question that I need to know now is how do we set up a password on the Apple Airport Extreme now, when it is already set up and working without one?
    Open AirPort Utility.
Select your base station, and then choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu. Enter the base station password if necessary.
Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
Choose a password scheme from the Wireless Security pop-up menu.
Enter the password all users will need in order to join this wireless network.
AirPort Utility 5.1 Help: Password-protecting your wireless network
Also, are there different types of passwords and if so, what is the most reliable one so that we don't lose connections, time out or have any other quirks?
There are different types of wireless encryption. WPA2 and WPA are the most secure especially when used with a non-dictionary password. 128 bit WEP is passable in most situations but not very strong. 40/64 bit WEP is extremely weak.
There is really no general "reliability" issue with any of them. Some devices aren't compatible with some of them.
If when we assign a password to the Apple Airport Extreme and for some reason the Netgear stops working, how do we unassign/take away the password on the Airport to get it back to the current setup that we know does work?
Follow the procedure above but disable wireless encryption instead of enabling it.

A "hard reset" will do the same thing.
Make sure that the AirPort Extreme is powered on
Hold in the reset button for a few seconds and the amber light will begin to blink more quickly. Keep holding the reset button when you see this for another 4-5 seconds and release
Allow 25-30 seconds for the AirPort Extreme to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility and click Continue to follow the guided setup

I upgraded my MIFI 2200 (had no contract on it) to a Jetpack (with a contract) when customer service told me this 4G device would use less data because it was faster.  This was not correct.  Anyway, I got the device, had problems, did tech support, re-activated my MIFI.  1.  Decided to return the device. Spent hours with Customer Service, then finally up to Management, they agreed to take it back and void the contact, I sent it back immediately – and instead of voiding the contact they transferred it to my MIFI! Please cancel the contract on the MIFI. 2.  During the short time I had the Jetpack I continually received overage alerts, took it all the way up to 30 GB, each time I backdated the new data plan except twice when customer service did and failed to back date the increase, and once the computer locked customer service out and could not increase.  The end result is I have a $495 bill, many of these alerts were false since I ended up with only 14 MG for the month, etc.  I am asking that my bill be reduced significantly to reflect no overage and to compensate for these problems. Please open up a ticket for this.

I had Verizon JetPak and you will find it will eat data like crazy. I opted to sign on to ATT Uverse and configured my phones and other devices to the WiFi on the Uverse system. It took about 5 minutes to completed the configuration.  I was using 10 to 12 GB monthly to support 5 devices. Even if you use Verizon DSL, you are still subjected to same GB allotment.  In my area, Verizon DSL is not available. With Uverse, I have 250 GB monthly to use, and I have not even come close to using anything of that magnitude. I reduced my GB package with Verizon to 2 GB per month and since having ATT Uverse, I never use more than 1GB a month with Verizon.
I have no problem with Verizon cell phone service as we get a much stronger signal where we live than you can with ATT or any others.  It is just my opinion, but if you are running multiple devices off Verizon Jetpak, you will eventually spend a fortune to keep pace.  I pay $60 a month for 18 Mbps speed, although ATT have packages that cost much less. But, it saves me a bundle each month. The cost of Uverse alone is worth not having to run everything through a Jetpak.
If you have the  option to use another DSL service provider in your area, I recommend dumping the Jetpak and sign on with another carrier.

  • Wireless NIC Cards to use with MiFi 2200

    Hello All,
I've had some issues using the Linksys Wireless-G NIC cards for wireless data access on Windows computers.
Does anyone know if there are recommended wireless card brands that work best with the MiFi 2200? Thanks for your assistance.

There are two kinds of RFID tags: Active tags, which have a battery or other internal power source, and passive tags, which have no power source and work by reflecting the energy from an RFID scanner (basically). At the energy levels and distances used for WiFi location detection, passive tags will not return a detectable signal.
Take a look at http://www.aeroscout.com/ for more info on WiFi RFID tagging.

  • Device sharing (printer, hard drive) with MiFi 2200?

Is it possible to setup network shares using the MiFi 2200 using Windows XP Pro SP3?  I've shared devices through a wired network before, but cannot seem to get it to work through the MiFi device.
The following thread makes me think I need a dedicated router for this to work -
    http://community.vzw.com/vzw/board/message?board.id=Broadband_Netbook_MiFi_Devices_tmp&message.id=4159#M4159
    Thank you.

Unfortunately this function is not available on this device. It is strictly for internet access rather than sharing network settings like on a printer. You will need a different type of network sharing system for this option. Hope this helps.

  • Install Mifi 2200

I hook up the Mifi 2200 with a USB and followed the instructions. VZ access manager. I get downloaded and finish a window pops up saying I need to find driver info for my device. Gives me a choice of online or browse the computer. Im hooking this up for my grandma in the country so I have no internet. The computer finds nothing. She had a different mobile broadband before, I'm wondering if this has something to do with it. How do I make sure everything is removed from the old mobile broadband? What programs am I looking for in the control panel? I am abel to pull up the VZ manager but it detects 0 devices. I unistalled everything in the unistall programs and started again with same results. Keeps telling me I need driver for my device.

My MiFi 2200 appears as a CDROM, with the drivers on it, when it is plugged in to a USB port.
Look at "My Computer" and see if "CD Drive 'E:' Novatel Drivers" appears.  Double-click that.
Double-click DriverInstaller.msi, if it didn't start automaticaly when you open the drive.
Does this computer have WiFi?  If it does, disconnect the MiFi from the USB, and allow Windows to look for Wireless networks.   You should see a "Verizon MIFI2200 3226" as an available wireless network.  That doesn't work if the USB is connected.
The required "password" is on a label on the back of the unit, or under the battery, as the ESN Decimal number.
I use Wireless because it is convenient and I can share, but I also use the USB connection once the battery runs down, so it can charge from the computer.

  • A problem with my mifi 2200 need help please

Hey everyone. I came here to get help with my verizon mifi card that all the sudden after such a great run stops working!
I had bought two mifi 2200 cards at the same time about a year ago. All I did was turn them on and was getting Internet connection wirelessly to my ipad right away. My connection worked for ages and never had a problem until recently. One of the cards stopped working roughly about three months ago. I looked around online for things that perhaps was stopping the device from working. I figured that the device was ready for an update and that was prohibiting the device from working, but here is the weird part; the other card (the exact same one) was working when this first card I mentioned wasn't. The card working continued to work until just recently like a day or so ago. Odd right. Anyway, the first card I connected to the USB cord that was provided in the box into my laptop. I was immediatly prompted to download Verizon Manager. My first time ever getting to this step. I was connected to my Internet connection at home via LAN line because that was my only option to Internet. After the software was downloaded, I was prompted to update firmware in which I did, then I was told to update wifi area coverage information which is just that search for finding local wifi spots, the next one is the important one that never seemed to work. The message read somewhere along the lines of you need to update coverage area information as if in there was some new program via coverage to get the stuff to communicate with the device. I said yes and then a message popped up saying Activation and had this bar going side to side, but after a while was told the programming failed. The device has already been activated so I don't understand the reason for the word Activation. Regardless, I tried doing other things I've read on this forum like resetting the device, turning standby mode to never, and so forth, but none worked. The device powers on/everything is on, and I can connect to the device, but I have no Internet. Please, some one tell me what is going on.
Thank you and hope to hear from you soon.

Sounds like you botched a firmware update and bricked your MiFi.
Have you tried contacting VZW for a replacement device yet?

  • Possible Resolution to MiFi 2200 connection issues when using WiFi

I was having issues connecting to the Internet with my Windows 7 laptop using the MiFi 2200 as a WiFi device.
My WiFi adfapter was retaining the last IP Address it had obtained ... in my case my home network.
Go to a command prompt and do an ipconfig -release followed by ipconfig-renew.
It pulls an address from the MiFi from the DHCP range and works perfectly.
    Hope this works for everyone!

Maybe also check specific for the 2 different tcpip protoclas loaded.. here is the solution that resolved my connection issue:
    Updated Vista Home sp1 to sp2 ( 450+MB download )
Updated Atheros AR5007 drivers to 7.6 , 2008 release... there might be a newer release but I dont want to jack with it now that I'm working.
Check in network connections for wireless connection.
I had 2 TCPIP protocols loaded. v6 and v4 .. v4 had IP and DNS hard set. changed both over to auto assign
WALLA Mifi is now working wirelessly.

  • Mifi 2200 - Error 691: Connection Failed - Access was denied ...

I have set up a Mifi 2200. It CAN work great. Intermittently though, I can't get connected wheen using the device as a USB modem. It will ALWAYS connect fine when I connect through Wifi.
The error I get: Mifi 2200 - Error 691: Connection Failed - Access was denied because the username and/or password was invalid in the domain.
I have done all the usual things:
    1. Reinstalled the VZAccess Manager software including latest update. I am at 7.3.13.1 (2635a)
    2. Obtained all latest Windows updates (XP SP2).
    3. Removed, replaced, manually, auto-configured a Dial Up Connection many times.
    4. Replaced the USB to microUSB cable.
I found the VZAccess Managers diagnostic tool where you press CTRL-D and enter the password diagvzw and see some additional settings.
There I had a minor break through. There is a setting where I can force the modem to only use 1X. If I do that, I connect every time without fail. No problems, no errors. The moment I put that setting back to Auto or forced EVDO, I fail again, or only work every 20th try or so after a reboot of the device etc.
Is anyone else seeing this, or getting this error? It can't be an account issue since it works sometimes on EVDO and ALWAYS fine on 1X.
Thanks for any help or ideas.
    PN

I think I have an update that might be a clue that it IS an Verizon issue either with the device itself or at the towers.
I have determined that when I connect to it through WiFi where I mentioned it seems to ALWAYS work. Well, it always works in 1X mode there. It fails in EVDO mode.
Something up at the towers? Although multiple towers have been tried.
    Anyone any ideas?

    Garry,
Ironically even thought Vodafone is part of the parent organization for Verizon wireless only global Verizon devices can be used on their network.  Verizon has a MIFI style device that will work globally called the 5 Spot.  Global data gets pretty pricy though.  As far as Puerto Rico, it is treated like  an American territory and shouldn't give you any problems.

  • MIFI 2200 usage

Can you please tell me how i can find the usage on a given day? FYI,I connect to the web via selection of the MIFI 2200 on the"airport" (mac)  and have put the password into my key chain, so nothing pops up,and goes directly to the web (if i have made myself clear)
I have also connected to my USB but don't understand the options.
    Thanks

If you visit your MyVerizon account on the Verizon Wireless website or if you look around in the VZAccess Manager for a usage section, I think you should be able to see the data usage on a daily basis. If not, at least you can find your overall data usage for the billing cycle. I'm on a MiFi 2200 right now on vacation since the other connection I have access to is disconnecting constantly, and I know that visiting http://192.168.1.1/ shows the data usage since the last time the MiFi was rebooted.
I use the above address since I do NOT have any Verizon software on my PCs. I'm running the MiFi in Wi-FI mode.
