My wives MBP 13 inch 09 fans kicked on and computer shut down

after computer shut down, it did not respond to any keys, sleep light was on. I held down the power button and it turned off, then i powered it on and seems to be okay, anyone with any info on this as we are about to take it on vacation????? she did have a usb powered mouse plugged in, but  that it

Sounds like a simple problem of doing something like playing a game that caused the CPU and/or GPU to work to the point of getting so hot it triggered thermal shutdown.
Oh, I'm assuming you have only one wife. Your topic title says "wives" which is plural. If there's more than one of them using the computer maybe that was the cause of the shutdown.

  • Upon pushing power button my mac pro sits in a holding status with the power light blinking continuously.  Fans kick on and it never goes to startup.  Trickle LED shows good as does the Power LED.  No RAM DIMMS are lit either.

Upon powering on my Mac, the power light begins to flash, the fans kick on and the it seems to lock up.  Screen does not come on.  I have confirmed it has Trickle and Power by checking the diagnostic LED's on the mother board.  No other LED's are lit.  None of the RAM LED's are lit either.  I removed the battery from the motherboard and waited ten minutes, then reinstalled it.  What could the issue be?

  • Fan revs up then iMac shuts down

My mid 2005 G5 ran fine for 13 months. Then, this fall the fan started speeding up almost immediately after power up. We cleaned the fan and ports, reset pram and it was better for a few days. Now the fan comes on and runs high speed in less than 10 minutes, even if the only processor use is email. Today, while only surfing in Safari, it shut down. Restarted and it shut down again.
Checked the Apple notice but this machine is not in the serial number range with the extended service for the power supply.
    Any suggestions?

I am sorry to say that I have the exact same problem on my 2005 iMac G5 17". The fan noise started a few months ago (about 14 months after delivery) and is relentless and extremely annoying. It is louder than the speakers on the computer.
Last month, I did a search on several websites for solutions to the problem, but only found other people with the same problem told by apple that it was not an issue.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to correct it at all, and it only is becoming progressively louder and occurs every time the machine is not sleeping.

    jean156,
I am a little confused, you are posting in an iMac forum however your profile only indicates you have a MacPro. While I agree a SMC reset may help please carefully read the link The hatter provided because different Mac's have a different processes for resetting the SMC.
In the mean time you may want to update your profile (Your Stuff in upper right and click Profile) and also please post in the correct forum to avoid confusion.

  • New MBP 17 inch Problems with Windows Vista, and BF 2142

    Hello!
So I just have 2 little issues that bug the **** out of me. OSX runs flawless. I love it.. But I use Vista to run Battlefield 2142.
So my first issue is the microphone. If I go to close the lid of the MBP, I get feedback from the speakers, and microphone. Even though I have the microphone on mute for Vista, it doesn't mute the microphone all the way.
If I Hook up a headphone to the output jack I can close the lid since it disables the MBP speakers.. But all my tapping and grunting can be heard via the heaphones.
Does anyone know if there is a fix? Or why the **** Vista isn't muting the device properly?
Now my other issue is Battlefield 2142.
I can get it running only when I have a External monitor plugged into the MBP, and the Lid is closed.
If I try to run Battlefield 2142 without a external monitor, and using the Display of the MBP, it crashes.. I have tried a ton of different Resolutions, and it is always the same story each time.
If anyone else has had these issues, and has found a solution, please share.
    Thank you!
P.S Oh, another thing. I have a Quad G5 that I run Logic Pro on. It came out right before the Intel Mac Pro machines. If I sold the G5, and and used this new Macbook Pro, would the Macbook Pro that I now have perform better than my older G5 in Logic Pro?

found a fix. has to do with the ini file... just had to do more searching on google.

  • Since Mavericks was installed I amd having trouble streaming and the fan kicks in and stays on when I am watching stream in features

Since I installed Mavericks I am having trouble streaming and the fan turns on and stays on shortly into watching a film on line.
Also the screen breaks up  into lines and colors with no image in the middle of viewing a film sometimes several tomes.

    Hi Mudra,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your fan is running and you're noticing video issues when streaming video, I'd suggest first trying to reset your system, as described in this article:

    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.

  • IMac fan runs full speed on shut down

Hi Everyone, this has probably been discussed before, but I may have some new information to add that could interest the tech savvy people out there.
My iMac runs perfectly fine; more or less as it did when it was new. In OS X, when I shut down the computer, the fan runs at full speed indefinitely, unless I unplug it or boot back up.  When running, the fan is perfectly normal (increases speed a bit when doing something taxing).  I've never heard it at full speed before until this started happening.  After following the SMC reset procedure with no luck (I'd like to add that the SMC reset only says it relates to fan problems when the computer is ON), I searched a bit and noticed there are one or two cases where a problem like mine was believed to be a motherboard issue, and therefore a costly fix.
However, here's the fun part. When booted into Windows 8.1, shutting down the iMac does not cause this issue to occur.  It stays silent, as it should, even if I disconnect then reconnect the power.  This leads me to believe it's unlikely to be a motherboard issue.  However I've wiped, restored, and reinstalled fresh copies of Mountain Lion, Mavericks, and Windows 8.1, and the result is still the same: if I don't want to have to unplug it from the wall, then I have to use Windows to shut it down.
So then, my questions are these:
-What is the difference between shutting down from OS X and shutting down from Windows?
-Is an operating system allowed/able to touch BIOS settings?
-Is it possible to still be a hardware problem, given this difference?
My default OS is OS X, and it makes no difference if I change that to Windows.  I also did a PRAM reset, even though that has nothing to do with fans...
I'd certainly like to avoid a costly repair, if it's just something that a future software update will fix.
    Thanks in advance!
    -Jon

    Hey, thanks for the response.
The "Startup after power failure" option was not checked.
I'll try the Extended Hardware test when I get some spare time again - probably tomorrow night.  After that I suppose it is time to either take it in for service/diagnosis, or just keep using Windows to shut it down.  Sleep mode is unfortunately not an option because it eventually goes into hibernate state, which has the same problem as turning off.  I don't like to leave the computer on all night, just from a power-conscious point of view (but yes, I know today's iMacs use very little power). I have it on a power bar now, so I just flick the switch off when I power down. It's not bad as a temporary solution - perhaps permanent if the shop says they have to replace the motherboard.
As for contacting Apple... I had a 1-hour conversation with them about my iCloud account, because it suddenly stopped working on this Forum site (hence the new account with no points).  Anytime I sign in, it forwards me to the "page not found" error page.  This happens even if I sign in on the apple store then click over to here.  If my login info has an open session, then Discussions just doesn't work.  They were completely baffled (understandably), because the account works on iTunes, iCloud.com, Apple store, and everywhere except Discussions.  I was on the phone with them for over an hour - and the kicker is, even after telling them the same thing happens in other browsers, from other computers, they actually forwarded me to the iMac team.  This is when I lost faith in Apple support.  When one of the staff asked why I don't just phone about the issue, instead of trying to get access to the forums just to post about it, I told them I didn't want to pay $50/hr (or whatever the insane rate is for Mac hardware issues), only to be put on hold and sent around between departments, just to be told I need to send it in for service, which I'm probably not going to do if it's the motherboard.  They never did get back to me about my account issue...
Anyway, sorry for the rant, I'll keep you posted about the hardware test and more SMC resets.

  • Fan is loud and computer very hot.

The fan has been running pretty loud last 3-4 days and computer is almost red hot within seconds of coming on. Hardware test revelas error (code 4SNS/1/40000001:1DSR-0.000. Any thoughts or ideas or better yet, solutions? All help is appreciated. Thanks!
    Len

Code "SNS" is a sensor failure. When a sensor fails, a fail-safe procedure kicks in and runs the fans full speed so the loss of the sensor will not lead to loss of the computer.
The only thing that might help is reseting the System Management Controller. See this Apple arilce for instructions:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Find the section that includes iMacs.
IF that doesn't help, you can't fix it at home. You will need to have Apple service the computer.

  • Cooling Fan Error Message & Computer Shut Down

    Hello,
I have a 2 1/2 Satellite running W7 and recently started having a problem, receiving a Cooling System error message which tells me to shut down the computer immediately.  I did and left it off to cool, then started it up again.  Less than 5 minutes later, same message and the computer shut itself down.  The fan starts normally, then becomes burdened, then stops.  Is this actually fan related or hard drive related?

    Hello Peter,
I already have the new BIOS you sent me.  The problem persists.  Toshiba has no Authorized Service for computers where I live (Brazil) as far as I can see on their site, which I can't understand since it is a global company.  So, I can not use my business computer now.  Apparently, I either have to ship it to the States (which will cost me more than the computer is worth, and I'm better off buying a new one of a brand that takes care of its customers globally), or I have to try and find someone here who thinks they might be able to discover the problem and fix it.  Any suggestions?

  • HP Pavilion a6110n Startup Problems, Fan Runs Full Tilt and then Shuts Down

We are currently running into an issue where our computer, when we try to power it on, turns on briefly with the fan running at full tilt.  After a few seconds, the computer then shuts down and everything turns off.  When the monitor is connected, we never do see anything show up there.  We opened up the case and cleaned out the fan and the cooling unit completely, and then we even completely removed and then reconnected the unit.  Still, the computer continues to do the same thing.  Does this sound like a bad sensor?  Like the computer thinks it is overheating and just shuts itself down?
Thanks for any help.  We tried some of the advice we found on here, like stated above, and seem to have run out of options.

    Hi Big_Mike_180,
It is the same for the desktop or notebook. The one blink means that you are having an issue with the CPU, unfortunately. At this point if you are in warranty give HP Total Care a call at 1-800-474-6836 in North America or visit the link below if you are outside North America.

  • G575 - Fan stoped working, CPU overheats and Laptop shuts down

    Hello!
I've bought a Lenovo G575 three years ago, my warranty isn't active anymore.
The fan in my laptop stopped working yesterday, and now when I do something that is CPU intensive, the Laptop shuts down because of the overheat.
Is there a way to buy a new fan?
Should I open the laptop and take a look at the fan, to see if it can be fixed without changing the fan.
    Thanks for the replies.

Yes, the listed fan will fit your model laptop.

  • G5 tower won't boot; fans ramp up until I shut down

I'm running a Dual 1.8 GhZ PowerPC G5, with 1.5 gig of RAM. I recently replaced the power supply, as the one that came with the machine died.
I left the machine running last night, and this morning I found the fans ramped up as high as they could go, and the screen telling me that one of the external devices had been disconnected improperly. (This had happened once or twice while I was using the computer before I went to bed. Couldn't figure out what the problem was.) I shut down the machine by holding down the power button. When I turned it back on again, it wouldn't boot. I get the startup chime, and the main HD spins up, but the screen remains blank (the light on the display still works the way it should).
I was somehow able to get the machine to start from my backup drive once, so I verified and repaired the main drive. It checked out fine. I tried another restart, and the machine wouldn't boot again. It has since refused to boot, getting no farther than the startup chime.
I've tried pressing the power management button. I've tried booting from the Leopard disks, and I've tried zapping the PRAM. However, it appears that the keyboard isn't having any effect, as the last two didn't work either.
Anybody have any thoughts? I've removed and reseated one of the RAM cards, but haven't had a chance to try the rest yet.
I can't afford a new machine right now, so I'll try pretty much anything to get it to work again. Thanks!

UPDATE: I removed the Belkin PCI card I had installed in the machine, and it started up with no problems. So, it would appear the card is the problem. It's been working fine for months. Is it possible that it just up and died for no reason?
This is the card I had in the machine:
