My WLan card and my Bluetooth have both the same MAC address?

Hello dear Arch Forumers.
I've recently purchased a brand new Sony VAIO SVF 14415. I installed Arch in Legacy BIOS mode (I didn't want to deal with the UEFI stuff and I don't use windows anyway, so I erased the complete disk and started from scratch) successfully without any glitches except for the wifi card (broadcom device) and the bluetooth device. For the wireless connection I installed the Broadcom-wl driver from AUR and worked fine, then I went after the bluetooth integration (I'm using KDE). I installed every package in the official repositories to make it work, I also enabled the systemd service for bluetooth management but no luck to get it to work...
Then I tried with CLI tools to see if I could diagnose the problem and I noticed that both my bluetooth and wireless device have the same MAC address (see the image below).
Even though I found something I still don't have a clue about how to proceed to make the bluetooth work. Can someone help me?
Kind Regards!
EDIT: I'm sorry, I just realized the last character is different in both mac addresses but the bluetooth still doesn't work.

If the battery has been completely depleted on the Nano (not really a good idea) then it is going to take 15 to 30 minutes before your computer can see it. Same thing will happen with an iPod Touch.

  • LAN and WAN share the same MAC address -- could this be a security issue?

When I bought the AEBS(n), I was a bit surprised to see only one ethernet MAC address listed (on bottom of unit, or was it in config utility?), in addition to wireless MAC. My main router has two ethernet MACs.
So last nite, I investigated. I confirmed my suspicion that both the WAN port and the LAN ports share the same MAC address! My setup has the AEBS WAN port plugged into my home LAN's main router, and a Linux machine plugged into a LAN port of the AEBS.
View of AEBS WAN side (from main router at 192.168.1.1)

10.0.1.1 on the LAN side of AEBS and 192.168.1.21 on the WAN side of the AEBS both use the same MAC address, 00:16:CB:C4:30:A6.
I tried to provoke some leakage between the two sides (for example with broadcast packets), but haven't been able to do it so yet. Perhaps the switch in front of the eth MAC has enough smarts to keep the two subnets separate? Still it sort of worries me, if I used the AEBS as my only router, that both WAN and LAN go thru the same ethernet MAC (same h/w). I browsed here but found no discussion on this.
    Comments anyone?

.... This is why there are separate MAC addresses
for ethernet and wireless, they are physically
different networks. In the case of the WAN/LAN, both
are ethernet-type networks but are physically
distinct (this is the purpose of a router like the
AEBS), so having the same MAC address on both sides
won't cause any sort of collision nor should it be
possible to leak across networks. MAC addresses can't
be used for routing beyond the physical network.
If it is indeed two different NICs sharing a single MAC, then indeed it is not an issue as you would never want to connect these two NICs together. But is it really two NICs?
My worry is that these two subnets are on the same physical network, with some magic going on to keep them separate anyway. Do we have some picture of AEBS internals? Maybe that would answer the question...

  • Can i install windows 7 and OS X together on the same Mac Book Pro?

can i install windows 7 and OS X together on the same Mac Book Pro?

You can do it either using Boot Camp or by running a virtual machine, such as Parallels Desktop (which I use) or VMFusion. I prefer the VM method, as I don't have to reboot using the handful of Windows applications that I use. And I can access my Windows apps just as I do my Mac apps - copy and paste between them, etc.
I just upgraded from Parallels 7 to 8 and I'm quite happy with it, running Mountain Lion on a late 2011 MBP with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. I also have a 27" Apple Thunderbolt Display and there are no problems with video drivers, etc.
If I were you - unless I needed every inch of performance that running Boot Camp can bring - I'd go with a VM to run Windows. I can attest to the functionality of Parallels - perhaps others with experience with other VMs will chime in.

  • SRP521W - Local and Remote Traffic Cannot be the Same Subnet Address

I support an existing VPN infrastructure with PIX, Juniper NS5GT, and Netopia devices used as VPN endpoints. In all cases, I can create a VPN where the location's internal subnet, 10.x.y.0/24 sends traffic to 10.0.0.0/8 out the VPN tunnel. In the case of this 521W that we are evaluating, it appears that I cannot do this. Insteadm when creating the IPSEC policy I get this error "Local and Remote Traffic Cannot be the Same Subnet Address." Which, while strictly true, has never been an issue with all the above devices. Is there a workaround or other methodology to support this?
    Thanks.

We have extactly the same problem with the SRP527W. Other Cisco small business products work like.
    Cisco RV 120W

    Cisco WRV210
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps9929/index.html
We need a device with that supports one IPSec VPN and one ADSL interface and is easy to use like these devices.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your Apple ID and iCloud email address don't need to be the same, you can't change an iCloud email address.
Also check your Mail rules and filtering, the verification mail may be going to a junk folder or even being deleted altogether. You may also wish to contact your mail provider to see if their spam filters are removing the email before it gets to you.

  • Can I use a shuffle and a 1st gen on the same mac

I use my 1st gen ipod for pod cast in the car. I want to get a shuffle to take just a few podcast with me when walking. Is it possible to use a shuffle and another i-pod on the same mac. can I manually transfer a couple of pod cast to a shuffle?
    Thanks

Itunes 4.9 is fine but I really would recommend getting the latest Ipod updater they just made another bug fix for the shuffle in the latest Ipod updater. http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

  • Can you run Lion os and Lion Server os on the same Mac mini?

I'm a windows convert to Mac and I'm interested in running a standard Lion Client, but at the same time running Lion Server on the same Mac Mini (Server Edition).  My needs for the Lion Server OS is to handle e-mail, a Web Site, and file sharing between the server to a secondary PC, iPad, and iPhone.  But at the same time I wish to dive into the Mac (Apple) experience.  I just wish to be able to do this on the same machine.
As a secondary question, is it possible to merge two different iTune Accounts into one?  Is it possible to share items purchased on one iTunes account with an iPad that is tied to a different iTunes Account?

    1. Yes, but you'll need separate partitions for each OS, or run the client OS in emulation.
    2. It isn't possible to combine the accounts, but a single iTunes library can contain content from multiple iTunes Store accounts.

  • Can I have both iMovie 09 and iMovie 08 installed on the same Mac?

    Hi,
This question may seem odd, but... I work at a college. In my role there, I provide training for students and faculty using a variety of technologies (including the iLife suite). I would like to purchase and install iLife 09 for my Mac for personal and professional use; however, I also need to maintain iLife 08 applications for training purposes for work. Is it possible to have both versions installed simultaneously?
    Thanks!

Yes, you can, although Apple does not support the methods shown below. Here's how you can do it:
_*If you have NOT installed the iLife09 upgrade yet......*_
    a) Open Finder & click on the "Applications folder"
    b) Click on the "New Folder" icon and name the folder anything you want (like iMovie08)
    c) drag the iMovie.app into the folder
    d) install iLife09....you will now be able to open iMovie09 by clicking on the icon in your dock, or open iMovie08 by going to the newly created folder and clicking on the older iMovie.app file.
_*If you have already installed iLife09........*_
    ----IMPORTANT----
*MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP OF YOUR MAC in case something goes wrong, such as a recent Time Machine backup so you can restore your files!!!! Also, make sure you have the original installation disks for both iLife08 and iLife09, or the OSX installation disks with iLife08 on it..........*
    a) Open Finder & click on "Macintosh HD", then open the "Library" folder, then open the "Receipts" folder
    b) Scroll down and find the files marked *iMovie.pkg, iMovie_712.pkg, iMovie_713.pkg, iMovie_714.pkg*, etc. You will not have all of those files, and the numbers may be different than 712 or 713, etc. Move these files to the Trash. *DO NOT MOVE iMovie_PreviousFolder.pkg or iMovieHD6.pkg to the Trash if you have them...keep them in the Receipts folder.*
    c) Open Finder & click on the "Applications" folder, then find iMovie.app and move it to the Trash
    d) Open Finder & click on the "Macintosh HD", then open the "Users" folder, then open your user folder (i.e., "Paul"), then open the "Library" folder, then open the "Preferences" folder, then move *com.apple.iMovie.plist, com.apple.iMovie7.plist and com.apple.iMovie8.plist* to the Trash. You may not have all of these files, or you may have different names for your preference files, but as a general rule, any preference files with the words iMovie should be moved to the trash.
    e) Put your iLife08 or OSX install disk 1 in your DVD drive
    f) Double-click on "iLife08.mpkg" (iLife08 install disk) or "Install Bundled Software only" (OSX install disk)
    g) When the "Install iLife08" or "Install Bundled Applications" window appears, click on continue for all the agreements until you get to the "Standard Install" screen. Click on "Customize" and a new screen will appear with a list of all the applications (iLife08) or the words "Bundled Applications" in the OSX install disk, and next to those words is a small arrow....click on that to show the contents of the installation software. Uncheck all boxes except iMovie. Make sure that box is checked, then click on "Install" and follow all prompts to install iMovie08 back to your Mac.
    h) Once iMovie08 is back in your Mac, you will need to move it to a new folder as follows:
    i) Open Finder & click on the "Applications" folder
    j) Click on the "New Folder" icon and name the folder anything you want (like iMovie08)
    k) drag the iMovie.app into the folder
    l) Now, reinstall iMovie09 as follows....
    m) Put your iLife09 install disk in your DVD drive
    n) Double-click on "iLife09.mpkg"
    o) When the "Install iLife09" window appears, click on continue for all the agreements until you get to the "Standard Install" screen. Click on "Customize" and a new screen will appear with a list of all the applications. Uncheck all boxes except iMovie. Make sure that box is checked, then click on "Install" and follow all prompts to install iMovie09 back to your Mac.
    p) You will now be able to open iMovie09 by clicking on the icon in your dock, or open iMovie08 by going to the newly created folder and clicking on the older iMovie.app file
    Hope this helps!

  • I want to run an NI GPIB card and a Keithly GPIB in the same machine.

I want to run a NI GPIB and a Keithly in the same machine for software development. Our labs use both types of card. Another employee tried to make it happen, but failed. I would like to use 1 machine due to software licensing issues.

    Hi,
There shouldn't be any interaction between the two GPIB drivers. The NI interfaces will use NI-488.2, wil the Keithley interfaces will use their low-level device driver. Each driver will manage the their own hardware.
In LabVIEW, you will use the NI-488.2 Vis to communicate with the NI interface. The Keithley driver has to install their own driver interface VIs.
The only problem is you want to use VISA for both interfaces. I don't know if there is a Keithley implementation of VISA, but there can nly be one installed in the system. The NI_VISA driver will allow you to control the NI interface, but not the Keithley interface. You can still use the Keithley interface using the low-level driver.
Finally, here is a knowledge base I found that has
some information that may be useful to you Using a Keithley PC488 GPIB Interface with LabVIEW
    Hope this helps.

  • Can you upgrade from LP8 (Studio) to LP9 and still use LP8 on the same mac

I love the idea of upgrading Logic
However, i've been burned so many times by shabby developers (apple included) releasing software that isn't fully operational until at least 4 months after the relase date and not being able to work on projects due to crashes.
With this in mind, i want to know if i do install LP9, will i still be able to use LP8.
Be good to have a safety net i can call on.

Can't answer your question directly, but I bought the full version of Logic 7 and later upgraded to 8. I am able to run both versions, which is essential for me as 7 can open my ancient Logic 2.5 files, but 8 can't!
So it should be the same for Logic 9... hopefully!

  • Every time I sync my iPhone with iTunes, it deletes the library and copies of the iPhone all over again, and I'm syncing at the same mac ever.

Toda vez que sincronizo meu iPhone com o iTunes, ele exclui a biblioteca do iPhone e copia tudo de novo, sendo que eu estou sincronizando no mesmo mac desde sempre.

Have you ever had all 7 of them synced before? Are these ringtones you made yourself? Is there a chance they could exceed 30 seconds in length? Is there a chance you have moved the original file location on the computer? May need the answers to a couple more questions to try and determine an answer.

  • OVI Maps and bluetooth carkit at the same time

I tried to use OVI Maps on my Nokia 5800.
If my bluetooth carkit is connected, I don't have audible route descriptions. As soon as the carkit is disconnected, I can hear the driving instructions again.
Is it possible to use navigation using OVI Maps and a bluetooth carkit at the same time?

    Welcome to the forum!
This was possible if you used Nokia CK-300 carkit (now discontinued) which had dedicated CarMenu application installed upon device:http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/nokia-ck-300/application-software as option to route "All audio events" via car speakers!

  • More than one bluetooth keyboard at the same time?

    Hi,
I have a MacBookPro5,2 (that's the model identifier) and I have some problems.
Every day I take this thing to the office, plug in a bunch of USB devices and an external monitor. When I go home I unplug them, take the mac home and then plug them into essentially identical devices at home. The ports are wearing out, the connectors are getting sloppy.
So I'm trying to figure out how to do the same thing with wireless. I don't seem to find anything out there to enable me to use USB devices over bluetooth. That would be ideal, because I've spent quite some time getting the devices I want, and I doubt I'll find equally good ones as wireless.
One thing that's fairly important to me is a completely split keyboard. I use a Kinesis Freestyle keyboard. They don't make a wireless keyboard, and fully split keyboards seem to not support wireless at all.
So what I want to do is take a couple of wireless keyboards and hook them up to the same mac at the same time, and hopefully it will behave as though I'm only using one. Meaning, shift on the left and I on the right produces a capital I.
Does anyone know if this works?
    Thanks.

I have an answer. I got a couple keyboards and paired them both to the Mac.
I could put one hand on each and type, but when I hold a modifier on one hand while pressing the key on the other, it does not modify the key.
    What a drag.
