My words are gone

im hating apple right now... all of the words on my ipod have dissapeared and ive restarted my i pod like fourty times. the words in the menus and on the settings and everywhere are gone like the date when you first trun on your i pod are gone and it wont regesture my wifi and it wont let me see what i am typing and i am seriously about to throw this stupid thing in a pond and call it a day someone please help!!!

Try the standard fixes:
- Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory defaults/new iPod
For how to restore see:

  • My Norton 360 won't work with V4.0, I refuse to use it without anti virus, short of going back to IE, How does this get fixed! All my secured logg in pass words are gone as well as finger print recognition...... I think V4 SUCKS!!!!!! I don't want it!

Theres no security that "I" want to control that will work with version 4! And why would I want to have to cross over all my book marked pages to get to my open pages??? What idiot thought of that? Or does FF intententionally want you to click your book marks and not have your own protection so they can start tracking you and selling info like Google???? No thanks Mozilla, You blew it with this upgrade.... Back to IE

  • Suddenly all my Word documents are gone. What happened? Are they recoverable (no back-up hard drive or time machine)

Suddenly all my Word documents are gone. What happened? Are they recoverable (no back-up hard drive, no time machine)?

    Greetings,
What happened right before they went missing? (software updates, "cleaning" up the computer, etc.)
Are your other files still there like music, movies, pictures, bookmarks, etc?
I'm sure you've already come to this conclusion yourself, you need a back up. Its easy to do with 10.5.8 and later: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553.
Try searching your account for any ".doc" files (Word documents) by going to File > Find and using the options below:
If you don't find any of the documents you are looking for in the search window and nothing else is missing then it would be wise to get a second opinion ASAP before any chance of data recovery is lost.
Make an appointment with a Mac Genius at an Apple store (they don't do data recovery but may be able to see something we can't see from here) or contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider to see if they can look around the hard drive for you.
If the second opinion reveals that the data is really gone off the entire computer then you will need data recovery software or service:
Data recovery software requires you have a separate hard drive so you'll need to buy one first. Data recovery software examples:

  • I upgraded my 3rd generation ipad to ios 6.0.1 and now am experiencing various issues.  Neither Pages or Numbers will open.  I just see a gray screen that says Pages or Numbers at the top and all of my documents are gone.

I upgraded my "new ipad" (the 3rd generation I think) to ios 6.0.1 and now am experiencing various issues.
1- Neither Pages or Numbers will open.  I just see a gray screen that says Pages or Numbers at the top and all of my documents are gone. The icon that allows me to create a new document also does not appear.  I went to icloud.com to see whether my documents still existed, which brings me to the 2nd problem.
2- It appears that all of my Pages documents are still on icloud, but all of my Numbers documents are gone.  There were only about 10, but I access 2 of them nearly every day, so this is a big issue for me.
I went into Settings and all of the icloud information is correct and it "Documents & Data" is on.  When I look at the storage, I see the Pages documents but not the Numbers ones.  The next thing I did was turn my ipad off and back on, but this didn't fix anything.  Since my Pages documents are still on icloud, I then tried to delete the Pages app from the ipad so that I could reinstall it, which resulted in the 3rd problem.
3- I cannot delete any apps.  I can get all of the icons to shake and the small x IS available, but everything freezes when I click it.  I can't do anything at that point except reset the ipad or wait until it eventually restarts itself.  I've tried this with Pages as well as multiple other apps, all with the same result.  I've also tried downloading a new app (which worked fine) and then deleting that one, but I got the same result.
3a- A small related issue to this that I am far less concerned about is that when the ipad restarts itself, it comes back on and the screen is really dark and I can barely make out what appears on the screen.  If I enter my password right away, it stays that way until I go into Settings - Brightness & Wallpaper and touch the brightness setting (although I'm not actually changing the setting because it already shows that the brightness is turned up a little over halfway).  If I don't enter my password right away and let it go completely dark, then click the home button, the brightness is fine.
So now I'm stuck.  My guess is that I will need to restore it, but wanted to check before I take that step.  Unfortunately, my laptop is on its deathbed so I haven't been synching my ipad to it and I fear my Numbers documents are gone forever.  I'd like to try everything I can to fix these issues before doing the restore in hopes that I can get the Numbers documents back.
Any suggestions for any or all of these problems?

I do backup with iCloud.  I can't wait until the new iMac is available so that I can once again have my files in more than 1 location without needing to rely solely on the cloud.
I also rely on iTunes and my MacBook and Time Machine as well as backing up to iCloud. I know many users know have gone totally PC free, but I chose to use iCloud merely as my third backup.
I assume that the restore would result in my ability to open Pages and Numbers and fix the problem with deleting apps, but this would also mean that if my Numbers documents still exist solely within the app and are just not on iCloud for some reason that they would be gone forever.  Is that right?
In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

  • I burned iPhoto to a folder and now my folders/albums are gone in iPhoto

I decided to burn a folder of all my photos in iPhoto as I was having a problem with iPhoto creating new, untitled subfolders everytime I put photo's in a folder. I thought that I should back everything up and then take the next step to reloading iPhoto. I have had a problem with iPhoto since I bought my computer and took it into the genius bar twice and they they remotely came into my computer. It seemed to stump all of them, although the remote session was the best help. Since I have over 32,000 photos, I think it is time to find out what is really going on with this particular iPhoto. I have been using iPhoto for a very long time on previous computers and never had a problem. I need help before I regret doing something I can't reverse.

I am asking what happened to my folders and albums after backing up my photos by burning a folder to my desktop.
Part of the problem is confusing use of language - since we only have words to communicate with it is critical to use the correct words properly
In iPhoto are you speaking of folders and albums in the source pane on the left? Those are for organizing and are not places but albums are ways of viewing yoru photos and folders are ways of organizing your albums
Not sure what you mean by "burning a folder on the desktop? You "burn" CDs and DVDs - you "export" photos to finder folders on the desktop - is this what you did?
Then exactly what did you do next?
    This makes no sense
Just went back to iPhoto and all of the albums and folders are gone. All the photos are present.
Exporting photos does nothing to a finder folder does absolutely nothing to the source photos within iPhoto
And export (if htat is what you did) is not a way to backup iPhoto - it does backup your photos but not yourorganization
So to help it is critical to know exactly what you did do
And do you have a good current backup of the iPhoto library - you may very well need to use it

  • External hard drive, restore problem! Files are gone...?

All the files are gone... but the folders are still there.
    Here is what happened:
    Step 1
I restored everything from main HD (two disk striped RAID) to external hard disk (Western Digital MyBook 1TB ). The external disk was mac formated (Mac OS Extended - Journaled). Everything went just fine.
    Step 2
I boot the computer from the exernal drive. That also went just fine.
    Step 3
I create a new bigger RAID set from 4 internal disks.
    Step 4
Restoring then from external drive (now the boot volume) to the new internal RAID set went horribly wrong! Restoration had stopped at some point during the night and resulted weird issues.
Trying to boot the machine didn't work...
Trying to boot from external drive didn't work...
Trying to boot with option key down I got an HD icon called "EFI boot") which did not work...
So, I connected the external drive to a different mac (also leopard 10.5.7) and all the restored files copied in step 1 were gone! All the folders were still in place but files like images and stuff totally gone. Get info from the drive gives also around 930 Gb of free space... So they don't waste any space either.
What happened? How can I get my files back? Somehow I don't think they are deleted for good...
I already tried repairing with Disk utility and Disk Warrior and installing the latest drivers from WD website...
PS. Sorry for the language issues. English is not the native one for me...

I've used time machine in the past and couldn't get to the bottom of the problem so I've recently downloaded and am using carbon copy cloner and I get the same problem. The files that are missing are just word and number documents. Seems so odd.
    Thanks for replying

  • Events in Calendar not scheduled to repeat are gone!

    Hi,
Today I opened up my Palm Desktop calendar on my PC and recent events that I scheduled but were not scheduled to repeat are gone!  I made sure that “category” was set to “All” and it was.  I did find that events about 2 months ago that were not scheduled to repeat are there but nothing after then up until now or one time events in the future.  I installed the Palm desktop 4.1.4 software on my computer when I started using my Lifedrive a few years ago.  However, my Lifedrive broke  a year ago but I still use the Palm Calendar on my PC to set my schedule.  In other words I do not synch anything with the Palm software.  I always “save all” before closing out of the Palm software.  I have read very similar problems online by others in similar posts but every suggested remedy advises to try something involving synching to the device the Palm software is used with.  I know that there should be archived data on my PC that may still contain the data that somehow disappeared.  I am not sure though exactly what file/files to open or look at.
Did the recent date change to Feb 1, 2009 mess something up?  Like I said, from the online searches I have done I have seen several posts stating things similar to “My present/future one-time events are gone but ones from months ago are still there”.  This leads me to believe it is nothing I did because I honestly can’t think of  anything that caused this.
    Please help
    Thanks
    Chris
    Post relates to: LifeDrive

If the Data is intact on the device then change the Hotsync conduit to Handheld overwrites desktop then sync. Otherwise you will need to bowse to the file location on the PC. C:/Program Files/Palm or Palmone. Make sure the Palm Desktop is closed.  There you should see a Folder with a name based on your hotsync username. Inside that folder you should see a Datebook folder. In side the Datebook folder you should see a Datebook.dat file (DAT file) and a Datebook.bak file. Right click and rename the DAT file to Datebook.old and the .bak file to Datebook.dat. Then open the Palm Desktop and see if the data has been restored. If it has then change the Hotsync conduits to desktop overwrites handheld and sync.

  • After recent FF updates, many menu CONTENTS are gone!

After recent Firefox updates (most likely during August 2014), several pop-up menus and the like no longer show the actual content. The menu frame and some buttons still appear, but the main "business" part of the menus are gone!
For example, the Firefox Tools->Options menu shows NOTHING but an empty frame and the "OK", "Cancel", and "Help" buttons.
This is difficult to explain in words, but since I don't see any way to post images here, allow me to link to my post on the Mozillazine forum where image posting is allowed:

The problem definitely exists in FF 32.0.2 and 32.0.3, but I suspect it existed earlier. The same problem exists on every Windows 7 computer I own.

hello, please try to disable the ghostery addon and see if you can still reproduce the issue then...

  • When i use arabic font with the build from the inspector the lower and uper part of the word is gone  ??

    my keynote 09 version 5.3
i am using the arabic font albayan the problem is that when i use the build tool in the inspector the uper and the lower part of the word is gone i tryed to make the font smaller or adjust the position and that did not change so is there any way to fix this please because we can not use the build and the inspector tool like that ???!!!!!

All iWork apps have bugs like this that make them generally unsuitable for RTL scripts like Arabic.  All you can do is try a different font and see if the results are any better.  Or try another app like OpenOffice or PowerPoint.
Let Apple know this needs to be fixed via

  • My Salami are Gone

Just noticed in the new, combined and branched CS4 sub-forum that my salami are gone! I am not talking about that old, gray-green and fuzzy salami in the fridge either. I am back to 1 salami!!!! Harm is back to 1 salami. What is going on here? I think that our usually helpful, tireless and somewhat friendly MOD's have conspired against Harm and me. Was this Jeff'd diabolical joke, just because I strayed OT in a couple of threads? OK, maybe more than a couple, but hey, it's hot here in AZ, and sometimes a guy needs a break!
Not sure how the salami count will affect the competition to win that all-expenses paid trip to San Jose, the 5 minutes with the product manager of our choice and Maine Lobster Day lunch at the Official Adobe Cafeteria, but I worry that the salami-count might have been part of it, say a "tie breaker?"
Guess I need to go talk to the Adobe Admins in the Forum Comments forum, and demand the return of my salami.
For those in a quandary, these are salami:
    Hunt

    Hey, what's going on here....
MY salami ( which is apparently a brain meter ) has 1 single little red tick in it....on the far left...as if it's about to run out any second. If it's a battery.
Today I managed to stumble my way through helping 2 ( count them.... TWO ) peoples.....by luck mostly....and of course mostly by just repeating the stuff that I've learned from the more brainy people here....  as that's how I've learned anything at all about this stuff in the past 6 months...
BUT...anyway, I DID REALLY get a couple of gold stars.
Now, when I was younger a gold star meant that you did something cool...and in MY OPINION...my salami should somehow reflect just a LITTLE MORE brainy-ness....even if it is only ...what's that word.???  ....brainy-ness by association ??  Vicariously ???
So how come I got ( so far in the past 6 months ) 2 gold stars and only 1 red tick ??
I've been sitting here in the lounge for a couple hours now, and it seems like a fine day with several beers under my belt...and I am saying this in the best of congenial company....  and the bees ( from the World Cup ) have ( Thank God ) temporarily stopped buzzing in my head....  What a Gawd awful sound !
So...anyway,  besides that , lets hope I stumble on some more "correct" solutions in the future.
ps.  I don't know how you guys and gals did it, but you actually taught me enough to get 2 ( count them ! ) hehe....  stars !  Thanks ! Very Much !

If you need assistance with finding any of your restores or attempting to restore from any that happened prior to his incident follow this article
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
IF you do find a backup that has your contacts; I'd /highly/ recommand turning off your wifi network after the restore is finished because if the issue is with your iCloud your contacts may merge back with her's.
With iCloud you DO NOT want to share the account; bad things happen Evil evil thigns...
But in all seriousness; if two devices have the same iCloud; iCloud is told to merge and sync infomation between hte two and can't tell that it doesn't belong to the same person

  • Pictures are gone after iOS 8 update

After the iOS 8 update, I went to my picture gallery and all but 43 of my pictures are gone. I've gone to Photos --> Collections and still, only those 43 images are there. Where did my pictures go and how do I get them back?

You should be storing everything on your computer.  Just sync them to the iPhone.
Did you update without making sure that you had imported everything to your computer?
