My WRT350N and WPC300N experiences!

Hi
I have used a WRT350N (V2) and a WPC300N PC-card for a few weeks now. Here are my experiences. I have attached an already formatted NTFS disk with files on it, to the USB port. All files suddenly have the System attribute set. Files are then kind of writeprotected. Can not be overwritten. Has to be deleted before a new file with same name can be copied to the disk. This really makes the USB disk feature useless. I have tried to connect another disk, and format it (Claim Disk) from within the WRT350N MMI (FAT32 was used) and files copied to the disk still have the S attribute set!
I have quite a few network timeouts using this combination. This is on all types of operations. Browsing, retrieving email, filecopy, Remote Desktop usage. The distance between the 2 devices are only 7 meters, but in between there is a wall (a door between the 2 rooms/devices is just 1/2m from the router). The first days i actually used the WPC300N card with my WRT54G (v5), and this worked flawlessly. No timeouts at all. Actually better than the standard Intel 22xx B/G internal module in my laptop. The 2 routers were placed at the exactly same place (same with the laptop).
I have a Qtek 9100 PDA with WLAN. This device is not able to connect to the WRT350N. The network is discovered, and the PDA tries to connect, but it does not succeed at any time. With my WRT54G there is no problems at all.
I really like this concept with WLAN/N, GIGABIT and USB storage in the same product. Any suggestions to enhance its performance? Thanks!
br Lars

Welcome to the club I have some of the same problems. When I set up my usb disk connected to my laptop, move all my files over then connect it to my router eveything seems fine, but I cannot delete certain files or folders. Problem seems random. then when I start to copy files to the drive over the network about ten or twelve files copy then I get an error that the network drive is no longer found. then both lights on my WPC300n go off. if I bring up the utility for the card it says I am connected but I'm not. the only way i have found to resolve this is to reboot. I tried setting up the usb drive through the router claiming it etc. this did not seem to help either. I can put an old cisco 802.11b card in my laptop and not have any problems copying files to the drive but it is so slow. Both router and network card have the latest drivers and firmware. I was going to call tech support but won't be able to find the time until late next week. If you here any thing Please pass it on and I will do the same.

  • Tip for WRT350N and WPC300N

    Hi
I have been struggeling with poor or no network performance on this setup. Here are what i did to get it worki properly:
    - Updated the WRT350NV2 with latest FW (august 2.00.16).
    - Hardreset the WRT350N
    - Set up the WRT again, and this time using AES as dataencryption (and not TKPIP). This was actually a tip from Linksys support!!!
    - Ensured that the XP Wireless Zero config, was stopped, and set to manual startup on the laptop.
    - Uninstalled the previous Linksys drivers, rebooted and installed the latest (1.1.00.019 august).
    - Doing the nw setup again in the Linksys Monitor.
Bingo. I now have 300Mbps, and it seems to work quite stable so far.
Drawback: I have devices hat does only support TKPIP. They will not be able to connect to this network then :-(
    Hope this helps someone else.
    br Lars

    Just to clarify some nomenclature:
WPA    =  PSK   personal  =  WPA with TKIP
    WPA2  =  PSK2 personal  =  WPA with AES
Try using "PSK2-personal" with "AES or TKIP".  This poorly named option lets some devices connect using WPA, while other devices can connect using WPA2.
This should allow you WPA2 devices to connect using WPA2  (which uses AES), and it should also allow devices that use WPA to connect using WPA with TKIP.  If this works, then all your devices should be able to connect.
One additional issue is that Windows XP requires a patch to run WPA2. Go to Microsoft Knowledge base, article ID=893357 and it will direct you to the patch.
Sadly, the patch is not part of the automatic Windows XP updates, so lots of people are missing the patch.

  • WRT350N and a Sony SMP-N100 media player

My network consists of the WRT350N with wired ethernet to mainframe PC, two wireless laptops, and a Sony Network Media Player(SMP-N100) which is also wireless and connected to a TV. I can access internet services like Netflix and it's working fine, but I bought it mainly to stream media files from my mainframe PC, through the WRT350N, to the Sony Network Media Player. The mainframe PC and the laptops share these same files easily. The oldest hardware is the WRT350N and all OS's are WinXP, WRT350N firmware is 1.03.7. Everything I've found so far hints at DLNA incompatibility....please, someone, say it ain't so. The WRT350N hasn't let me down..... 'till now.

    Thank you for responding.
I am able to ping the media player so there is communication to and from pc thru the router.
I made all the changes you suggested and still nothing.
But, in the process of doing all this I made my way to windows media player and its media sharing settings.
I did, after allot of trial and error, get the media player to appear in a window that indicates media share devices.
Soooo many settings, no wonder windows is such a monster....it doesn't want to play with the other kids(lol).
I am able to, now, access the pc from the media player, but, the only format I've been able to display on the tv is .jpeg's.
I have all kinds of pictures(jpg's, gif's, png's) and all kinds of video's(wmv's, avi's, mpeg's) and none of it is protected or illegal copies..
Basically every file format supported by the media player, at least according to their manual.
Do I have to use windows media player to share media from the PC? Is it their stupid DRM aspect thats preventing me from ACCESSING DEVICES I OWN?
Sorry, I didn't mean to yell, I get so frustrated when I hit the various brick walls' in windows.

  • WRT350N and WRT54 installed and playing nicely toegether

Well I just got a WRT350N and have added it to my network and setup my old WRT54G to function as an access point.
During the WRT350N install I did encounter a lot of the problems that have been mentioned in this forum (LELA not setting up everything, Firmware upgrade Are Failed, awful chat session with Linksys Active Chat).
I did get a survey from Linksys concerning the case I had logged and needless to say I gave them very poor ratings. But like someone else has said I hate 'the other guys' even more.
If I can be of help to any one in a similar situation please feel free to reply to this post..

Yes, I'm trying to do the same thing with a wrt610N!
Can you tell me how?  I want to go computer thru wire to wrt54GS thru wireless to WRT610N to cable modem.
    Thanks!

  • Use WRT350N and USB hard drive for backup

I intend to use a Western Digtal MY BOOK Essential Edition (500 GB USB external hard drive) with my WRT350N router for backing up my data every night.  Has anyone used this combination?  Can you tell me if there are any obstacles I should be aware of?  The backup software I will use is Genie Backup Manager.  I think I am going to need help in configuring the router to use the external hard drive.
    Thanks,
    poorolepaul

There were rumors floating around that the USB port in the 350N can not handle anything over 250Gb. Since the drive I used with the 350N was not that large I have no personal knowledge of whether that is true or not.
In any event, using the current firmware for the 350n (1.3.02) you can be assured that the USB will totally lock up about every day or two and the router and hard drive will have to be reset. Using the beta firmware that you can either request from Linksys or find available from someone on the Internet, that problem APPEARS to be fixed. The only problem is that a gigabit network connection will now lock up every day or two. That was my personal experience and what I have read by others.
My recommendation would be not to buy the 350N until they release firmware that fixes these problems otherwise you'll be as frustrated with the product as I am and others are.

  • Connecting laptop to WRT350N and wireless security

Hi, I have the following problem. I need to connect a laptop to WRT350N router. Everything works OK if I do NOT use wireless security. If I use PSK (WAP) then at the Preferred Network screen I set the settings to WAP/PSK and enter the shared key. However, this setting is overruled again and again. I can not save it. If I select my network from the networklist, many times the laptop doesn't even ask for the shared key. And if it does then it acts as if I have installed WEP on the router (which isn't the case!). I use Windows XP Home. Does anyone know what the problem is and how to solve it? Many thank, JFX

I have a second laptop connected to the router which works ok with both the non-secured and the WAP/PSK-secured environment. The one that is not working is a Sony Vaio with LAN-express AS 802.111g card for which I have the latest driver installed. For the WRT350N also the latest firmware installed (WRT350N v2 firmware 2.016) JFX

  • Needed: contractor with ID and script experience

Our business is looking for a contractor with extensive InDesign & scripting experience. Here's a basic idea of the problem we are trying to solve:
Is it possible to create a script which copies text from our blog, and/or other websites into our templates? Could we use a script to pull article headlines, body text, and quotes from the website(s) and place them into the ID templates we already use? This would save a lot of transcription time which could be used to focus on book layout/pictures/etc.
If this does not seem possible, or you need more information, please reply to this post.
If this is possible, and you have the necessary skills to help, please submit your résumé and a link to your website to [email protected] We will only reply to the applicant we deem most qualified.

What you are asking for is indeed possible, but it may not be the most efficient way to achieve what I believe are your actual goals, and here is why:
When you publish data to a website, you usually have to insert a lot of formatting code, which means that the actual content becomes mixed with what, from InDesign's point of view, is garbage, which means that you have to spend a lot of effort to clean it up.
If, as I presume it true for a blog, the content is stored in a database, it is much, much better to retrieve the raw content, without the formatting "garbage", directly from the server. How to do that depends on your blog backend, but usually it involves making calls to some kind of API, or a server-side script that pulls the requested data.
Once you have the data it is simply a matter of putting it into InDesign. If you are lucky enough to get the data as XML, then it is simply a matter of importing and styling, possibly with some xsl transformations.
If you are really lucky, your blog backend may allow you to publish the content as XML/XHTM/RSS/ATOM etc, in which case there is no need for any specific server-side work, as you simple can pull the content directly through a regular http request.
The point I am trying to make is that you should pick up the content before it is littered with "garbage", instead of trying to clean it up afterwards. That is what you do if you have to do it by hand, but you really should try not to replicate your manual workflow, but instead go for what is a good automated solution

  • PP configuration and BI experience

    Dear Experts,
We are implementing BI and SAP-PP together. Our R/3 PP consultants are ready to start configuring PP. We have already given a good picture of the available PP Business content to R/3 PP consultants. I am sure there are plenty of opportunities for BI to influence the PP configuration so that BI implementation is smooth, successful and leveraging the BI-content to the maximum possible extent. (Example, if you configure this way, these fields will receive data by default and the no extractor enhancement required).
Those who worked in BI-PP please post your experiences, Best practices, watch out points, pitfalls, Tips and tricks, pain-points. I would gladly reward answers - The way of saying thanks.

    Welcome To SDN
As per my understanding and experience SAP R/3 team will configure their system based on their functionality and their user requirement not as per BW Requirements. BW team will develop reports as per the data available in the R/3 system. In general practice I don't think BW team will give their reporting requirements to R/3. It's good you have given standard business content available for PP Module to them so that they will prepare for Custome reports. So at this point BW team don't have to worry atleast till R/3 team base configuration is over.
    Hope this helps

  • C300 Red Frames and other experiences with 2014

    Hello,
Just incase it's helpful, I'm sharing my experiences with Premiere 2014, C300 footage and a few other things.  First about me.  I have a small studio with two new mac mini's and one macbook bro running CC.  We recently bought a C300 and upgraded to 2014.
We've only had one project started and finished with C300.  Red frames and crashing were a constant problem.   We muscled through it.  Restart, Disk Permissions repair, PRAM,  bow to the east.
Our next c300 project we just started.  I only have two interviews so far.  In 2014, one interview has red frames in it for about 10 of the 35 minutes.  After reading a bunch here I started a new 2014 project, imported that interview via the media browser and still got red frames.
Just for giggles, I opened up the previous version of premiere,  CC,  on the same machine, started a new project and imported the clip via the media browser.  There are NO red frames in the interview.  The only difference is the version of Premiere.  Same drive, same media, same mac.
Most old projects the I've upgraded to 2014 crash constantly.  These consist of ProRes footage from an Atomos Ninja.  I've deleted my media cache on all my machines.  This problem has been pretty consistent.
For now, I'm going to work in CC.  On another thread, I hear there's a 2014 update on the way.  We'll see.
    Good luck!
    J

    " ... bow to the east ... "
    lol ...
We used to use that phrase a lot when I was younger and a problem that was intermittent popped up in something that we at times seemed to "solve", until ... it wasn't. At times, it does seem rather appropriate mostly jesting comment doesn't it?

  • WRT350N and printer problem

    (srry if english is bad)
I just recently bought a new WRT350N router and it was working fine, i could go on the internet and stuff, but the printer didnt work so well.
I have 3 computers (one of them is vista ( which is mine) and the other 2 are win XP) that were wired to the router so they can go on to the internet and 1 labtop (also vista) that can go on to the internet wirelessly at home, but they all cant print. You see, my dad put the printer in a closet in a middle of a hallway and connected to the WRT350N router's USB port. So the printer isn't connected to any computer. Since the WRT350N router is wireless and is able to connect to the internet, then all the computers and labtops connected to it should be able to print, but they dont.
I tried to go to my network and add the printer, but i just cant find it.
So if anyone out there knows the solution to my problem, plz answer A.S.A.P

USB port on the WRT350N is for external storage devices only.    It won't work for a printer.

  • Nseries and N85 experience

Had a Nokia 6131 until a 6 weeks ago and was convinced by my service provider upgrade to N85.
I'm frustrated and amazed by the actual downgrade in the user experience by Nokia:
    1. The phone comes with no smiley emoticons. Even the the only suggested application for download (Animated SMS), does not provide a reasonable solution, as it's sending animated icons, not compatible with phones that do not have the same application installed.
    2. During call, the phone goes too early to Stand-by mode, which requires pressing a digit twice in order to send a DTMF signal to an answering system.
    3. Calendar - setting a meeting: the default is No reminder, Private meeting, no way to change it.
    4. When sending SMS, there is no "recently used recipients" list
    5. Media player is loosing playlist items during work, needs restart of the phone.
    6. The upper 2 function buttons are very hard to press, often the phone reacts as if the the Multimedia was pressed, when other buttons are actually pressed. No way to disable this button.
    7. There is no option to easily add a large number of songs into to a playlist (check button on a list, or adding a full directory). The songs have to be added one by one.
    8. There is no option to edit a playlist by an external application like OVI.
    9. There is no so scientific calculator installed.
    10. The FM transmitter signal is weak and narrow band - causing low audio quality and much noise from remote stations.
    11. The GPS reception sensitivity is poor.
While the phone is packed with features and capabilities, Nokia has compromised their quality as well as the most important and frequently used functions of a cell phone, resulting not more then a toy - a mediocre toy. Certainly not a tool for serious users.

    Hi yorams,
As you've read, welcome to the world of S60, where no such user-friendly, logical facilities are available.. coz it's a serious phone.
The most common reasons (excuses) you will get will be , it's a powerful platform (which it is unable to handle the simplest of the previous phones functions), it's a new OS which will require at least about 10 years before the bugs are iron out and it will be a great OS for a great phone.
By that I mean, a phone is a phone. Just use it to call and receive. Yes.. there are tonst it of functions and programs preloaded, but most likely only used by certain people ( likelyhood the persons who decided what to put into the phone).
I have a N85, which I ditched for the 5800, which I ditched for the N96, which I ditched for another company's touch phone.
My point being with reference to your points
Point 1) Smileys... I cannot believe which idiot decided that smilies are not necessary. We see smilies here on posts, their discussions etc.. Don't tell me they arbituarly decided that NOKIA users do not use smilies...
Dear Nokia Co.. I guess it won't be difficult to let the users ( we, who buy your phones) decided whether we need smilies like a choice in the menu . You've managed to squeeze in so many duplicate menu items that one rarely use, yet those things that users want, you leave out...  I'm sure you can let the users decide - SMS to have smilies - Yes or No...
    Doesn't that solve a problem.
Of course when you mention the N-series don't smile coz they are high end user phone , does that mean that those Nokia phones that have smilies are for the low end..
     Point 4)
That is because I'm sure the Nokia developers feel that you will only and only will send 1 SMS to one person within 1 week (I assume they have taken a survey while designing their latest powerful S60 UI ).  Thus no recent used list.
The rest of points I can't really comment coz I don't really get to use them... I'm a call and text guy, thus you will see in my thread those are the points I was screaming about..
I feel your pain yorams... Welcome to the agony of the S60 or whatever version.. but I still believe, it's not the platform that created the mess..
It's the People's Touch (by that I mean those working in the finnish company)..

  • Bad Latancy and gaming experience

I have had issues with BT BB since i started back in JULY but recently my experiences tell me I am with the wrong company.
To start with my exchange is on ADSL2 but yet i am still on ADSL max, and i can't seem to teach the call centre staff the difference, which is a little frustrating...
Secondly recently i have been getting massive shifts in latency on my wired connection, from 30ms ping up to 500ms ping, with packet loss all over the place.
I tried to call up the technical support but all they could really tell me was your are getting the speed your meant to get "whats the problem" I was meant to recieve a call back from them yesterday, surprise surprise no call.
Could any one help on here?

Your line connection is based off the information that the DLM gets, it can change you to ADSL1 and to ADSL Max if it feels your line can or cannot handle it. It gives you the best speed your line can handle with the most stable line.
If you know the server IP, when the high ping accours if you could do a tracert to that server. It could be your computer updating a piece of software causing the high ping.
How many people use your network and what is you connection speed?
Also, this should of been posted in the BB Speed/Connection Issues. A mod or someone with the appropiate power will move it there.
You may want to contact the moderators here https://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951, they're the best in-solving problems like this.
