My x31 cant restore windows and driver properly!

Hi, my close buddy X31 (2672) had got virus. I used that the "access IBM" key to format HDD and re-install Windows. However, everytime when the installation of Windows was half-way through, a blue screen would come up and then it rebooted the system automatically. It then went to a Windows screen with nothing in it. I cant use all USBs, cant connect to internet, cant do anything at all.  Apparently Windows and some drivers, such as network, modem, etc. were not installed properly.
I dont know what I can do now. Please can any expert advise.  My machine is out of warranty. Many many thanks.
BTW, does IBM do any trade-in program in the UK? I love IBM X-series but I cant afford to get a new one.

do you have a cd drive that you can use to reinstall windows. do any of your ports work at all. if you go into the bios you can set the bios to boot from a cd drive. i bought a set of discs from them for 30 bucks. it comes with discs for all the drivers also. my operating system was xp pro.

Restoring Windows and reinstalling Creative Cloud

Hello everyone,
I need to restore Windows and format the main drive (preferebly in the other order) and right now I have all the Creative Cloud applications installed and activated. I also have Muse installed and activated on another machine.
I will restore Windows because of some registry problem and I have no idea if the Microsoft Product Key will be the same: it prompts me that Windows is not original, even though it is, and won't let me change the key (which looks different from the one under my laptop anyway). I added this to give more context.
I know I can install CC on two computers, so, the question is:
I will de-activate all the applications installed right now, do the Windows restore magic, re-install Adobe Creative Cloud and re-activate everything. Is this the correct approach or will this count as a "third" computer for Muse and "second" for everything else?
If this is not the right way, which is?

Between back up, removing linux, formatting, reinstalling Windows and then Creative Cloud I think I will have time to finish War and Peace but, as soon as I am done, I will post back if I was successful or not for future generations...

Yay, I've done it, everything is back to normal! I have deactivated every product: the Big Applications like Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Dreamweaver... I was able to deactivate them with one move, but not Muse and Lightroom (I had to open them and then deactivate them). Then I uninstalled every Adobe application just to be sure. Then reset, crash, crash, Linux partition error, format, reinstall everything and activate again.

hi, i hav problem with the flashing finder icon and showing "don't restore windows" and "restore windows" text box. im using macbookpro MAC OS X 10.7.5. i've search for solutions, lik relaunch the finder by pressing COMMAND+ALT+esc, but it didn't work for me...

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Please state what you have tried - there's no point in people here wasting their valuable (own) time trying to help you, only to find you've already tried what they are suggesting.
Have you tried trashing your preferences?
Unexplained faults like this can often be fixed by clearing out FCP X's preferences (for some reason, they get knotted up from time to time).
Download Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager (free, simple to use, and perfectly safe, both to download and use).
With Preference Manager, you can backup the Prefs first, then if trashing makes no difference, you can restore all your settings.
If you trash them and don't restore them, you will need to manually restore all your FCP X settings again, so it's a great idea to backup Preferences from time to time when FCP X is working well, then if they get corrupted you can ditch the bad prefs and restore from your (Digital Rebellion) backup.
Can't guarantee it, but it's worth a try.
If that doesn't work, move your projects and events (if you have any) to new folders so that FCP X doesn't find them, then relaunch the application. If it launches OK, there's a very good chance one of your projects or events is corrupt or one of the files in an event is corrupt.
Quit the app, then move one event or project at a time back to the original folder and launch FCP X agian - keep going until you find the cause.

Restore printer and driver using time machine?

First, I looked at the TM forum and didn't see an answer.
I inadvertently uninstalled a printer from SysPrefs>Printers and Faxes dialog box. The printer worked great and the particular driver I was using was very hard to find (not sure if I could find it again).
1. Is there a way to restore the printer and driver using Time Machine.
2. If not, could I manually reinstall the driver from a backup and if so, where would I find the driver?

You should be able to readd it to the prefPane without restoring any drivers.

System restore windows and itunes

Is there a way I can save my music (itunes) on my iphone after I system restore my computer? I want to back up my music through my account or my phone so that when I system restore my computer I don't have to redo all my playlist etc.

Turingtest2 provided a great solution for backing up the iTunes media.... in addition to that, if you do not regularly backup the computer, I would strongly encourage you to do so. A computer can fail at any time, anything from a physical drive failure, OS/data corruption, lost/stolen device, to an act of God that damages/destroys the system. Not having a backup is a very unintelligent thing to do.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

Clicking on minimized Firefox window willl not restore window and so the window/tabs cannot be accessed even upon closing, saving, and reopening.

Windows 7 shows a preview pane when hovering but clicking on the preview will not restore the window.

I found a workaround. There are probably better ones.

This is very perplexing. The problem is not with the iPhone or the cable, since it charges when plugged into an outlet. It's strange that it doesn't work on multiple computers.
One last suggestion, try forcing it into Recovery Mode with RecBoot: http://www.mediafire.com/download/rjv1sqrfgx3lvsd/RecBoot.zip (link for Mac). Be sure to click the Download button and not the "free download" button with the arrow, as that is a sneaky advertisement for a different program.
If not, you'll need to take it in for service and have an Apple authorized service provider restore it for you.

Final Cut Pro X will not open: Asking to "restore windows"???

Hey guys,
I have restarted, updated and done everything I can to get Final Cut Pro X (10.0.1) to open and I keep getting this alert >>> PHOTOBUCKET. I have done nothing new to my hardware or software (other than apples updates) since installing it a month ago from the app store.
The alert keeps asking me to either "Don't Restore Windows" or to "Restore Windows" and I clicked on both numerous times and I still get the "Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly" alert which looks like this >>> PHOTOBUCKET after about 10 seconds of selecting either option.
Any ideas? -Joe

My finder is caught in a never ending loop of wanting to restore windows

The Finder icon is bouncing up and down on the dock, there is a popup flashing on and off on the desktop which states "Restore Windows The Application "Finder" unexpectedly quit while trying to restore it's windows. Do you want to try to restore its windows again?" It offers the options "Don't restore windows and Restore windows". Neither of these actions respond. I have turned off; shut down etc... but it prevails.

I have it resolved now, I discovered some previous questions and found the solution. Phew!
