Apple mail will not connect to gmail (POP)
Hello,
For a week or so, Mail just will not connect to Gmail. Macbook Pro, Lepoard 5.8.
I tried deleting all accounts and creating them again but I get a message saying that the server is not answering.
This happened suddenly and Mail had been working fine for years... No changes in the Mac, no new software...No known general problem with Gmail. Gmail parameters set to POP as I'm using this instead of IMAP...
So right now All accounts have been deleted and I cannot re-connect....
Latest: even my Yahoo accounts do not work any more now.
Perhaps I should remove Mail and re-install it again ?
If so, how the h..k do I go about it as I'm no computer expert !
Please try not to be too technical as I'm french and do not really master PC language that well ...
Thanks and regards.

This issue that you are experiencing sounds like two-step verification is enabled on your Gmail account. I would recommend selecting the Gmail Help Center link and search for two-step verification in the link below.

OSX Mail will not connect to iCloud server?
Hi all,
I realise that this has been asked before but nothing suggested seems to work for me? Basically the Mail app will not connect to the icloud server? I use a @me.com email address. The error I get is:
The server returned the error: The connection to the server “p01-imap.mail.me.com” on port 993 timed out.
I cannot for the life of me change this server address. I think I need to lose the p01 part? I have tried deleting account and adding it back but still the same. The strange thing is that the settings on my home iMac seem to be the same but it is my Macbook pro with retina that will not connect. I am completely up to date with latest software on Mavericks. Mail is working for my work email on an exchange server so I know that app iteslef is working. Its been like this for a few weeks now but I thought it was just my work network blocking it but only just realised it is happening at home as well where it used to work.
Any advice gratfully received.
Thanks
Christhe 'p01......' is correct, so is the port 993. I would recomend opening mail and selecting Mail>Preferences>Accounts and then highlighting your icloud account and delete it by clicking the "minus" button, then add it back again.

As of yesterday evening (September 12th, 2009), I have been unable to receive new emails into Apple Mail, and also was unable to connect to iChat. The second issue was solved by resetting to port 443, but after scouring the forums I have not found a similar fix for Mail that has worked for me. I have already tried restarting the computer, running software updates, and deleting the mail preferences from the library -- this last one worked until I tried to set up my accounts again, at which point I received this message:
"The Mobile Me IMAP server "mail.mac.com" is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server might be temporarily unavailable."
If this is the case, that the server is simply unavailable at this time, I'm willing to accept that. However, I'm receiving a similar message when I try to set up my gmail account, and I am inclined to believe that both servers have not gone down at the same time.
I don't care about loosing old emails by setting up the accounts again and starting fresh, but I don't seem to be able to receive mail that way either. Is there anything else that I can reset in account preferences? Should I perhaps try a manual setup for the accounts?
Thank you--
--SilvertrumpeterI do not believe that this is a password issue. After watching the Activity window and the Connection Doctor, I got a message suggesting that I turn off SSL and try again. So I did, and watched the Activity and Connections windows again, with the same result. The Connections Doctor window tells me this:
"Connection Status: Mail was able to connect to the internet."
But next to my mobile me account name is the red status light, and the message that mail "Could not connect to this MobileMe IMAP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the account preferences." Now, since this was all set up automatically, I'm guessing that I have not entered any incorrect information, but if anyone knows exactly what it should say, I'd be grateful to have that information. -
I can connect using Mail (Mavericks, fully patched) everywhere that I have WiFi ... except at work! When I take my MBP (or my iPad) to work (every day) then Mail reports that it is able to connect to the internet but 'Could not connect to this iCloud IMAP server'.
I do not think it is an account setup issue (within Maveriicks) since it works at home, and everywhere else ... so I think it is something to do with the work network. My problem is that the support techs are overloaded with other issues ... and 'probably cannot change any filtering/blocking at any rate'.
Are their any alternative settings that I could try in Maveriock (and iOS7) that might allow connection at work? .... and preferably would still work at home!
Thanks. In my experience this is not uncommon. The type of connection required for your email (IMAP) is commonly blocked at the work firewall. I don't think there is any setting you can use which will allow it to tunnel through the firewall using an allowed protocol such as HTTP or HTTPS.
Sorry I couldn't be more help. It may still be worth asking your techs if they would be willing to allow IMAP out to a couple of places like iCloud and Gmail, but they are likely to be concerned about the entry of viruses and other malware through those email connections.
Of course a simple workaround is to connect to your mail server using a web browser while you are at work, but that may not be what you are after.

New version of yahoo beta mail will not upload attachments with foxfire browser
I have switched to yahoo email's new beta version. I can not upload attachments while using foxfire browser on my PC but can using windows on my laptop? Yahoo live help could not find solution and felt it was a problem with the browser- foxfire? I just need to find solution to problem. Have any suggestions?
I misunderstood the "of 25MB" part of the image. Maybe that's Yahoo's maximum allowance.
The typical next step is to try to rule out a conflicting add-on. A standard diagnostic to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings) is to try Firefox's Safe Mode. More info on Safe Mode: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
To start in Safe Mode you can use:
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode."
If uploads works correctly, this points to one of your extensions or custom settings as the likely culprit.
If there's no difference, you could also test for a plugin conflict by disabling those here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Plugins category
You probably have to reload the page or start a new message to test that change.
Any difference? -
MacMail stopped connecting yesterday morning. It was up and running and then failed and I have not been able to connect to yahoomail or icloud since. i have internet connectivity and can sign on to both yahoomail and icloud thru Safari. I have deleted the mail accounts and readded. still cannot connect. Any advice?
I feel for you bro i had this same BS problem only a few days ago. I must have spent about 5 hours in total trying to fix it and this included perusing these forums for an answer of which none of the 'solutions' worked, i tried using it on other PC's of which none of them it worked. Tried sw reinstallations, SP/2 reinstallations/removals, hardware changes to USB blah blah nothing worked and its's not like i don't know jack about computers because I do.
Your even lucky because in my case all that was required was the latest FW upgrade to make my player COMPLETELY UNRECOGIZABLE by both the FW installation program and WMP0 hence I couldn;t even downgrade.... I removed the FW thinkin it was corrupt as exactly what you did but because of Creatives wonderful TQM I couldn't even put different FW on.
In the end I just sent it back for a return but now I'm kinda regretting doing so as reading these forums shows that there are 0 issues with this player that Creative simply overlooked and sooner or later I might get with one of them (headphones anyone?!). If the next one is a dud I may wait for the new iRi'ver h0 or somrthing. -
I get an error message when trying to add new contacts and it is suggested I try back later, also when sending an e-mail the address I wish to send an e-mail to will no longer auto-fill. This has been a problem for sometime, maybe a month. The last problem I had was trying to download my March bank statement, in Adobe. If I switch to Internet Explorer I can accomplish these tasks. I am using Yahoo on both Firefox and Internet Explorer.
Check the Ethernet connection to the AirPort Express. Make sure that the Ethernet connection from the Comcast modem is connected to the WAN port on the back of the AirPort Express. The WAN port is the one with the circle of dots shown over the port.
It sounds like you are connected to the Ethernet LAN port. -
10.6.2 - Mail will not connect to POP servers
For the last few days Mail has refused to connect to my POP mail servers (provided by oneandone.co.uk). It displays the spinning circles next to the inboxes and eventually a warning triangle. I can connect to the servers via webmail and other devices, though of course this is not a viable alternative.
Do I have to reinstall Mail somehow? I don't see why going as far as reinstalling Snow Leopard should be required. I've tried numerous ports and authentication settings and nothing works.Neither of those things would be indicated -- the applications do not contain the User Account setup info, anyway, and reinstalling would not change that.
Please click on Window in the menubar of the Mail window and choose Connection Doctor -- what does it report?

Windows Mail will not connect with Comcast server
I've been getting the following error message all day today when trying to send/receive email via Windows Mail: Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F I've verified that all email account settings are correct using Comcast George's post, and with two Comcast phone reps. I've disabled email scanning on my Norton 360. Nothing about my setup was changed recently. I have successfully received emails on this computer/Windows Vista/Windows Mail for years with no problem. First Comcast rep basically said "Tough, b***h" since I am able to access my email via Comcast's web site. She viewed the issue as strictly a Windows Mail problem. Second Comcast rep had me change all settings on my account, with no solution. Then said she would escalate the problem on up the line. Does anybody have any ideas on how to make this work once again?

I've disabled email scanning on my Norton 360. Are you sure it "took"? AV programs don't like being told what to do. ;-) AV programs are pegged as the most likely culprit when Googling on 0x800CCC0F. Upgrading to Windows Live Mail is often recommended, and I recommend trying a different email client as well, but my recommendation would be Thunderbird. MS email clients are famous for quirky problems. On the other hand, someone with a similar problem (on a Mac, so different error message) changed his password and things started working again. I'm a little skeptical about that, thinking that it might have just been coincidence, but it could be worth a try. To see if you're having the same problem, you could turn on logging in Windows Mail and post the log here. Tools|Options|Advanced|Maintenance|Troubleshooting. Click on the Store Folder button above the Troubleshooting section to see where the log file will get saved. Remember to turn off logging when you're done troubleshooting. -
This happened all of a sudden today and I didn't change anything.

Mail Suddenly Will Not Connect
Mail has worked perfectly since buying this computer a year ago. I sync with three mail accounts: an exchange server at work, yahoo mail (POP), and my mobile.me account. Suddenly, mail will not connect with any of them, even though I am connected to the internet.
This problem coincides with my receiving the dreaded "self-assigned IP address" error message on airport. This prompted me to reset my airport express base station, to zap my PRam, and restart my computer a couple of time. I am now back online, but mail won't connect. I just get spinning wheels next to all three accounts, and the little hazard/exclamation point sign.
I tried connecting to the internet directly with an ethernet cable, and that did not help either. All the account settings in mail appear unchanged. All my downloaded messages are there. But I cannot connect. I have mail in the queue waiting to be sent, so I can't connect either to send or receive.
Suggestions?Could be a DNS issue, since you had to reset the basestation, if the DNS settings where being provided by DHCP.
See if you can do the following. (Ping your email servers)
Go into the terminal (Applications/Utilities/Terminal
at the prompt type
ping (Work email servers address)
you could see the following.
PING pop-sbc.mail.fy4.b.yahoo.com (216.252.120.29): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 216.252.120.29: icmp_seq=0 ttl=57 time=23.697 ms
64 bytes from 216.252.120.29: icmp_seq=1 ttl=57 time=23.364 ms
64 bytes from 216.252.120.29: icmp_seq=2 ttl=57 time=23.788 ms
64 bytes from 216.252.120.29: icmp_seq=3 ttl=57 time=24.701 ms
64 bytes from 216.252.120.29: icmp_seq=4 ttl=57 time=23.382 ms
If the address resolves correctly
Ping the Yahoo servers address, again you should see something similar to the above, if DNS is resolving the hostnames.
Not sure about mobile.me
If DNS is not working you will see something like this.
brent-hendrickss-mac-pro:~ hendrb$ ping [email protected]
ping: cannot resolve [email protected]: Unknown host
If it pings back correctly, do the following to make sure you can actually get out through the correct ports.
1) Verify for each account, which port the server is using.
In Mail. Go to Mail / preferences / Accounts (Click on the advanced tab)
If you are using SSL the port # will be 995, if your are not using SSL the port # will be 110, the port # will most likely be different for the works Exchange server.
2) go back to the terminal and see if you can telnet to the POP server.
telnet pop.att.yahoo.com 995
If it is successfully you should see something like this
rying 216.252.120.29...
Connected to pop-sbc.mail.fy4.b.yahoo.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
type BYE and enter to disconnect.
If it does not work and you get something like this
[email protected]: nodename nor servname provided, or not known
You might want to make sure you are allowing those ports in your firewall settings.
Hope that helps,
Brent -
Mail will not auhorize Yahoo connection
OK - have read all the various threads mentioning Yahoo Mail issues, but still got a problem.
1. Yahoo! email is fine, and can log in via Safari from Macbook, it appears set up for POP access and the password is what I thought.
2. BUT the iPod Touch will not connect and says the username/password etc is wrong. Have re-entered each several times to be sure of no typos....So just cannot find any fault.
The iPOd touch is working fine via iTunes stores and Google Maps...just connecting to yahoo email...via Mail that is quirky...thanks for any suggestions.I e-mailed Yahoo for help with Yahoo mail and was given the following instructions: Remove Yahoo account from your iPhone, turn the phone off and back on, and then re-add to trigger a re-sync on your Yahoo acccount. This worked with no problem!! I was also given a link for a Yahoo Help article which I have included below. For those of you who are having issues, I hope this solves them!

My ipad will not connect tot he server when trying to access my mail. This has been happening since last Sunday. Some have said it is due to the latest software update. I am able to connect to the internet.
I am not having this issue on iPhone.
I checked all the settings, the wireless router in my house and at work.
I have completed a hard reset of the device.
I had our IT guy at work look at it.
He said to contact Apple....
Any thoughts?

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
