My year old iPad 1 is displaying everything 2X normal size.

My year old iPad 1 is suddenly displaying everything 2X normal size. Did I fat finger something? I did experience a strange sync ending with the message, 'iTunes could not back up the iPad "[My name] iPad" because an error occurred.' Becuse of the 2x display I then performed a successful restore. What do I do?

I had to tap the Home button three times to get all back to normal. At 2X I couldn't do much in the Settings menu.
All is OK now. Thanks.

  • 2-year old iPad... display no longer... displays....

My original 64 3-G/WiFi iPad is having display issues.  The unit will show the slide bar for less than 1-second and rest in a blank state.  I have gone through all of the reset / hard reset / restore to orginal setings senarios.... iTunes recognizes the unit and I have a back-up of my iPad on my Mac and iCloud, no worries there.... but it will not sustain a display screen.  Sound works fine, I can view "the wheel" while it attepts to power up... will get the red slide bar and an outline of the Apple logo for 0.5 seconds, then nothing.  Battery is strong, no previous flicketing issues, not explosed to water or extreem changes in temperature.  Visit to the Genius Bar did not help... the individual who looked at it did not have previous experience with this issue.  Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Folks at an Apple store will have the most experience and that is the best place to go with the problem if you have done all the other attempts at a remedy that you list. It does look to me like its time for a new iPad.

  • I have a 2 year old iPad and have upgraded the iOS as they came available.  Currently the iPad runs iOS 7.03.  Today a friend was talking about "Personal Hot Spots".  His iPad displays this option via 'setting', but is not even listed on mine.  Plse help.

I have a 2 year old iPad updated to iOS 7.03.  For some reason "Personal Hotspot" does not even come up as an option in " Settings" .  I do not know if it was there in previous iOS versions as I've only just heard of it.  I have tried it on 3G and WiFi.  I have entirely deleted my WiFi and rebooted the iPad, all with no joy.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou

As Stated... The iPad 2 does not offer this Feature.

  • I upgraded my three year old ipad to IOS 8 and it's working very slow and irregular, can I go back to the old settings?o

I recently upgraded my three year old ipad to IOS 8 and it's working very slow and sometimes freezes. Can I go back to the old system?

No, downgrading the iOS version is not supported by Apple.
You could see if any of the following improve things :
    - closing apps via the iPad's taskbar : iOS: Force an app to close.
    - if having problems with Safari, clearing its history and data : Settings > Safari
    - soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
    - backing up (and copying any purchases over to your computer's iTunes library via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases) and restoring
    - adjusting settings e.g. turning 'reduce motion' on (Settings > General > Accessibility), turning off 'background app refresh (Settings > General), turn off multitasking gestures (Settings > General)
    - resetting back to factory defaults (after copying off purchases and any documents, photos etc that you want to keep) and then resyncing it back

  • Can i still get an insurance for my 1 year old iPad mini

can i still get/buy an insurance for my 1 year old iPad mini

No, it is accurate information.  Read the AppleCare documentation
    http://www.apple.com/support/products/ipad.html
A product is either eligible for AppleCare, or it is eligible for AppleCare+.  No product is eligible for both extended warranty plans.  An item eligible for AppleCare is NOT eligible at ANY time for AppleCare+ and an AppleCare+ eligible item is NOT eligible for AppleCare at ANY time.
Each item has a specific extended warranty plan it is eligible for.  Those eligible for AppleCare+ are eligible ONLY for AppleCare+.
Since I do not know where the op is, I phrased my initial response as I did.  IF they are in a country where AppleCare+ was available for their device, then no, they cannot purchase AppleCare for it, ever.  Only if they are in a country that did not offer AppleCare+ (yet) and the item was eligible for AppleCare could they add it anytime within the year after purchase.

  • My year-old iPad (running iOS 7) went dead overnight. why?

One day (last week), it worked just fine; the next day it was dead. Never dropped; nothing spilled on it; it just sat overnight on my desk and the next day, gone.
I had upgraded to iOS 7 a couple months ago, and no problems. So what gives. Anyone have a clue? I have AppleCare, I assume it will be repaired or replaced but this stinks. I was without my faithful device when I needed it most—sick in bed with the flu for the past week. (All better now.) Thanks in advance for whatever comments are offered.

You mentioned your iPad is a year old. Have you already paid for extended AppleCare within the first year of ownership? Because,  if you didn't , you only get the first year free and no way of paying for the extended warranty later.
It is possible that the battery prematurely failed.

  • My 2 year old IPad is not holding acharge as it did when new.  What should I do?

My two yeqr old IPad battery is not holding a charge as it did when new.  What should I do?

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Slow Macbook pro, ~1 year old;  Really HUGE Page Ins and Page Outs size, think 400 GB In vs 100 GB Out

Hi everyone, I have a macbook pro and it's so slow.  After scouring the internet a lot, and CCleaning my computer 359802 times and using Onyx, I finally realized why it's so s low.....my Page Ins and Page Outs are so big.  I have attached a screenshot that illustrates this.
I am not sure how my computer ballooned to this size, but it makes sense why it's like a turtle and is slower than my 4 year old Sony.
Can someone help me?? I am not sure what processes to get rid of and I feel like Google Chrome is taking up huge amounts of my Ram.  I mean yeah I open Google Chrome and run like 8 tabs and have Word and iTunes open, but my 4 years old Sony could run faster than this and I used to open like 12+ tabs on Chrome while running Word, Excel, Powerpoint, iTunes, and VLC on my Sony.  Which was nowhere near as powerful as this computer.  Supposedly.
    My computer Specs are:
    2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
    4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM
    Intel HD  Graphics 384 MB
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4
I would really appreciate any advice to get this down to normal.....since I hear most ppl have page ins and page outs in the MB or even KB.  Right now I'm running Google Chrome, Word, Ppowerpoint, iTunes, and Adobe PDF Reader.  I don't think this should be too unreasonable of work load.
    Thank you

The problem is not that your page ins are big, as that value resets when you reboot the system. However, your page outs are are almost 25% of your page ins, which means you can use more memory for the applications you run.  A page out is done when memory is full, and the system needs to add something else to memory, so it writes some memory to the hard drive to make room.  The guideline to add more memory is 10% to 15% page outs greater than page in's, and yours are more than that.
Your MacBook Pro can handle up to 16GB of memory. You might want to consider upgrading to 8GB, which would double what you have today. OWC and Crucial are two sources for quality memory. $42 for 8GB from Crucial, and you can usually find a % off coupon on retailmenot.com.

  • Is this normal for a 2 year old iPad?

Ive had an ipad for about two years but the battery seems to be wearing down. It used to hold 11 or twelve hours of battery but now it barely holds 7 and this is where it gets interesting.
i used ibackup bot to retrieve some battery information and it showed this
    CycleCount: 252
    DesignCapacity: 6583
    FullChargeCapacity: 5743
This means that its at 87% of its original capacity so surely it shouldnt have knocked three or four hours off the battery
It seems defective but i dont have applecare so id need to pay up £86 to replace it.
It could also be being eaten by ios 7 which is an issue which i havent yet had unless possibly now.
could someone provide me with some insight or advice please,
    thanks

    Batteries do degrade over time.
I would also say, unless there had been found a defect in your battery, it's not covered under the warranty anyway. And intensive things like videos or games will wear the battery down faster.
I think what you're experiencing is normal.

  • 1  year old ipad and want to download free imovie app

Only imovie app I saw was a $4.99 version.  Is there a free app for playing an imovie clip?

You should be able to iMovie videos on the iPad without an app. Try to download VLC Player app on iTunes and try to open the video on there.

  • 8 year olds ipad mini stolen

My ipad was stolen anyone know if there is a way for them to use this without it showing in a stolen app?

You can use Find My iPad if iCloud and Find My iPad was set up before the device was stolen.
If it is a cellula rmodel, you can report the device stolen to the carrier through which there is a cellular data plan
Other than that, contact your local police and report it stolen.

See the chart below to determine whether you can upgrade your device and what you can upgrade to. If you do not have a Software Update option present on your iDevice, then you are trying to upgrade to iOS 5 or higher. You will have to connect your device to your computer and open iTunes in order to upgrade.

  • Normal battery life for two-year-old iPad?

My first iPad is nearly out of warranty.  According to the Apple store 'Genius' app (the little hand held device they seem to look at a great deal), my battery is "normal".
They couldn't define in real-world terms what "normal" was.  Does anyone know - is it five hours - eight hours (which would be close to the 80% rule listed here: http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipad.html)
Since I don't have the devices they use to measure "normal", what would you folks suggest as an argument starting-off point?
Here's what I did: pulled up CineXPlayer and looped a 60 minute TV show.  I left wi-fi ON, set brightness to auto, and turned the volume down to almost zero, since I wanted to sleep.
With this test, I will get nine hours before the iPad shuts down.
Would I get less if the volume was at say 75%?
Would I get more if the Wi-Fi was turned off?
How many hours at what concoction should be used as a standard for "normal"?
As much as I don't mind paying $99 sometime in the future for a fresh unit, if the battery is out of warrantied specs now, while my warranty is still active...well, that's the kind of Apple-care I would hope for.
PS - I HAVE updated to 5.1.1 and the latest firmware, restored the iPad to factory, then restored from my backup.
    Cheers

During the warrranty coverage period, Apple will replace the battery if it drops below 50% of its original capacity. If it is out of warranty, Apple offers a battery replacement for $99, plus $6.95 shipping, subject to local tax.
The specs for the iPad 2 state that you can expect
Up to 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi-Fi, watching video, or listening to music
Up to 9 hours of surfing the web using cellular data network
The fine print on http://www.apple.com/ipad/ipad-2/specs.html says:
Testing conducted by Apple in February 2012 using preproduction iPad units and software. Testing consisted of full battery discharge while performing each of the following tasks: video playback, audio playback, and Internet browsing using Wi-Fi or cellular data network. Video content was a repeated 2-hour 23-minute movie purchased from the iTunes Store. Audio content was a playlist of 358 unique songs, consisting of a combination of songs imported from CDs using iTunes (128-Kbps AAC encoding) and songs purchased from the iTunes Store (256-Kbps AAC encoding). Internet over Wi-Fi and cellular data network tests were conducted using dedicated web and mail servers, browsing snapshot versions of 20 popular web pages, and receiving mail once an hour. All settings were default except: Wi-Fi was associated with a network (except for Internet browsing over cellular data network); the Wi-Fi feature Ask to Join Networks and Auto-Brightness were turned off. Battery life depends on device settings, usage, and many other factors. Battery tests are conducted using specific iPad units; actual results may vary.
