My year-old iPad (running iOS 7) went dead overnight. why?

One day (last week), it worked just fine; the next day it was dead. Never dropped; nothing spilled on it; it just sat overnight on my desk and the next day, gone.
I had upgraded to iOS 7 a couple months ago, and no problems. So what gives. Anyone have a clue? I have AppleCare, I assume it will be repaired or replaced but this stinks. I was without my faithful device when I needed it most—sick in bed with the flu for the past week. (All better now.) Thanks in advance for whatever comments are offered.

You mentioned your iPad is a year old. Have you already paid for extended AppleCare within the first year of ownership? Because,  if you didn't , you only get the first year free and no way of paying for the extended warranty later.
It is possible that the battery prematurely failed.

I recently upgraded my three year old ipad to IOS 8 and it's working very slow and sometimes freezes. Can I go back to the old system?

No, downgrading the iOS version is not supported by Apple.
You could see if any of the following improve things :
    - closing apps via the iPad's taskbar : iOS: Force an app to close.
    - if having problems with Safari, clearing its history and data : Settings > Safari
    - soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
    - backing up (and copying any purchases over to your computer's iTunes library via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases) and restoring
    - adjusting settings e.g. turning 'reduce motion' on (Settings > General > Accessibility), turning off 'background app refresh (Settings > General), turn off multitasking gestures (Settings > General)
    - resetting back to factory defaults (after copying off purchases and any documents, photos etc that you want to keep) and then resyncing it back

How do I upgrade so she can load newer apps?

See the chart below to determine whether you can upgrade your device and what you can upgrade to. If you do not have a Software Update option present on your iDevice, then you are trying to upgrade to iOS 5 or higher. You will have to connect your device to your computer and open iTunes in order to upgrade.

  • I have a 2 year old iPad and have upgraded the iOS as they came available.  Currently the iPad runs iOS 7.03.  Today a friend was talking about "Personal Hot Spots".  His iPad displays this option via 'setting', but is not even listed on mine.  Plse help.

I have a 2 year old iPad updated to iOS 7.03.  For some reason "Personal Hotspot" does not even come up as an option in " Settings" .  I do not know if it was there in previous iOS versions as I've only just heard of it.  I have tried it on 3G and WiFi.  I have entirely deleted my WiFi and rebooted the iPad, all with no joy.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou

As Stated... The iPad 2 does not offer this Feature.

  • I have lost my app. store icon on my first gen. Ipad running IOS 4.3.3  , how do I restore the Icon ?

Can someone tell me how to get the "App. store" Icon back on my original Ipad running IOS 4.3.3 ?

If you can't find it on any of your homescreens or app folders, and you can't find it via the spotlight search screen (swipe your first home screen to the right), then is it hidden by Settings > General > Restrictions > Installing Apps being set 'off' ?
If not then have you tried a reset to see if you can find it after the iPad has restarted ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Ah, well, then the notes are probably gone. Did you save any of the email from that account on your computer? The notes might be there if you did.

  • IPad running iOS 5 has on the menu bar only have 4 icons, being: back, forward, bookmarks, and the "add to bookmarks", but is missing an icon after the "add to bookmarks" arrow, that is a "show all open browser windows" icon. How do I get it in my safari?

What you are seeing is how Safari works now in iOS 5. There is no way to get that icon in Safari now. There other much better browsers available in the App Store. Look at iCab Mobile, Mercury, Atomic, ....
I have been running iOS 5x for so long now, that I don't even remember if that icon did appear in earlier iOS versions

  • I cannot find in the new itunes how to delete the pictures - somehow not finding "pics" in the menu. I have a quite old ipad with ios 5.1.1

Hi, thanks for your time: cannot find in itunes anymore how to delete pictures on my stoneold ipad :-)- somehow not finding "pics" in the menu. I have a quite old ipad with ios 5.1.1. Thanks a lot for your help.

How did the photos get onto the iPad ? If they were taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc then they can be deleted directly in the iPad's Photos app - either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view. You should also be able to delete them as part of importing them to a computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
If they were synced from a computer then connect the iPad to your computer and select it on the left-hand sidebar (with iTunes 11, option-command-S on a Mac will enabled the sidebar, control-S on a PC), and on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen use the Photos tab to de-select the albums/folders that you want to remove and apply/sync that selection. If you want to remove all synced photos then try selecting and syncing just an empty folder.

This is normal when downloading app or purchasing music, books etc. what are you doing when you are asked for the Apple ID and password?
Perhaps you signed out of your Apple ID in Settings. sign back in.

  • Hi Apple! I am having a few problems with my 6 month old iPad mini (ios 7.1.1). I am using my iPad and then some time later it just restars! Don't know why and it just keeps doing it! Please fix or if I restore my iPad will it do any good? Thank you

Plug your iPad into your computer, open iTunes, and click Restore. This will reset your iPad to factory settings, so make sure everything important is stored safely. Once the restore is complete, do NOT restore from your backup.
If you still have problems, take the iPad to the Apple Store or another AASP (Apple Authorised Service Provider). If you're still within warranty, any service will be of no cost. Check your serial number here or find your receipt.
    Hope I've helped!
PS: This is a peer-to-peer forum. Apple generally doesn't pay attention here.

The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a early 2008 iMac supposedly limited to 4 GB and noticed an improvement.

  • Can i still get an insurance for my 1 year old iPad mini

can i still get/buy an insurance for my 1 year old iPad mini

No, it is accurate information.  Read the AppleCare documentation
    http://www.apple.com/support/products/ipad.html
A product is either eligible for AppleCare, or it is eligible for AppleCare+.  No product is eligible for both extended warranty plans.  An item eligible for AppleCare is NOT eligible at ANY time for AppleCare+ and an AppleCare+ eligible item is NOT eligible for AppleCare at ANY time.
Each item has a specific extended warranty plan it is eligible for.  Those eligible for AppleCare+ are eligible ONLY for AppleCare+.
Since I do not know where the op is, I phrased my initial response as I did.  IF they are in a country where AppleCare+ was available for their device, then no, they cannot purchase AppleCare for it, ever.  Only if they are in a country that did not offer AppleCare+ (yet) and the item was eligible for AppleCare could they add it anytime within the year after purchase.
