My Zen 4GB player hangs n can't recognized in my compu

Hi everyone, my Zen 4GB player has got problems........
After I hv updated my computer to windows XP Sp3,?the?player?can't recognize in my computer, i hv checked out for the previous posting, however it still can't solve my problems~~
And my player stuck/freeze when the player is power on in the "Rebuilding" mode.......n i tried to go to the recovery mode n tried to "CLEAN UP" / "FORMAT" it, but it still stuck.......

Hi, thx for yr reply....... I hv already used "format all" n "Clean Up" functions.... The player operates normally in "Fomat All" mode, but it stuck when i am?trying in "Clean Up" during the process....i need to press the reset buttom to turn off the player......n it freezes again when i?am trying again?to power on n it goes to the "rebuilding library".....so wut can i do for it's?

Zen 4GB player freezing/screen going black

I have a Zen 4GB, and recently it's been freezing up a lot; the screen goes black, or sometimes white, or sometimes streaks the background colors, like vertical blinds, and I have to reset it. It usually happens when I press any button, but sometimes just when it's jostled.
I already tried upgrading/reloading the firmware, and then I tried formatting the whole thing, and neither of those have helped. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Could it be a hardware problem? Thanks.

Zen 4gb w/vista issu

I'm having some issues getting my new Zen 4gb player to operate correctly using Vista Home Premium 32bit...
Installed the software, plugged in the device, got the standard "ding" sound as usual when you connect a usb device, except that nothing pops up at first, nor does the software recognize it. After checking my device manager, i noticed the player was recognized, but i had to enable it to work. Now i can see the device in my computer, and the Zen organizer software is semi-recognizing it, meaning it sees the device and will let my 'browse' it and transfer files manually, as in dragging and dropping files directly into their respecti've folders, but when i go to 'add media' or other features like 'convert video' it says the player is 'busy or not connected'
the auto-update and sync features are also not working because they are not recognizing the player.
I have tried the player on two XP machines and there have been no issues
so is this a Vista only problem? bad drivers?
anything I can enable or disable for full support?

Zen 4GB Volume

I am pretty new to the "new" Zen 4GB player. I've had several mp3 players before, including Zen Touch, Zen Nano Plus and now this Zen 4GB. I find the volume level on this player seems quite low compared to the others. I am wondering if others have this same experience or if I have something set wrong. Even compared to the Nano Plus, volume is probably at least 30% lower with the same phones. [email protected]

Thanks for responding. My version is .2.03e. I have "smart volume" on, and "restrict volume" off. I don't even know exactly what these do. I'm guessing "smart volume" is some kind of volume leveling and "resrtict volume" caps peak volume (I tried this).
When I plug the Zen into my car stereo, I have to turn it to max volume. With normal earphones, I have to use level 4 or 5. On other players, it was down near 0 or so for the same volume level. I realize this can all change due to firmware (as on the Nano Plus, where volume levels were definately changed via firmware). This may be entirely normal....just checking. Thanks again.

Zen 4gb(won't turn on) please help

hi.i bought a creative zen 4gb player last summer in alaska/anchorage(now i am in turkey/ankara) i was using it and was proud of it till the last week.it turned out.i thought that it is out of charge but chargin didn't work.its' screen doesn't even turn on.it does not react when i connect it to the computer.i tried to reset it by the small button in the hole on its' upper side but no,nothing happens.what can i do or do anybody of you know the reason of the problem.if not where can i fix it'splease help?

Couple of things you can try; use a different USB cable (if you have a spare cable), try charging the device on another computer or if you can get hold of a wall charger, much better. If this doesn't work out for you, you can get in touch with support for further assistance. if you are still within year warranty, you can send the unit for repair but i'm not sure how the process works for you since you are currently located in turkey. You can ask support on your options on how to go about the repair/return. Hope this hel

Zen 4GB locked up, how long to discharge batte

My mp3 player locked up. I have had it just over a month, and I'd not had any other problems to this point. Now, it refuses to reset or turn on. It will not respond in anyway. I contacted tech support about this issue and they suggested I wait until the battery discharges completely and then try to reset the player again. I replied to them and asked how long that would take. I cannot seem to get an answer, so I will ask you: About how long will it take a zen 4gb player's battery to discharge from fully charged while in this locked and, apparently off, state?
And, further, can you speak to the likelihood of this fixing my problem? Would I be better off to send the player away for repair rather than waiting

Too many variables to say exactly how long it takes to discharge the battery since the LCD is not on (?) and the player is not playing music. Since the "up to" 30 hours applies to actually operating the device you might need to wait several days. If you can reset the device via "recovery mode" then it is possible unlock the Zen. Make sure you don't wait too long before your warranty runs out.

A Creative Zen MP3 Player which can work on Windows 2

I am wanting to get a Creative Zen MP3 player (or two) which can work with Microsoft Windows 2000. I want to put a number of podcasts on it as well as some music. Unfortunately my PCs are all Windows 2000 and it is not worth my while upgrading.
Now I think that some of the Creative Zen Micro units used to work on 2000. But later versions after firmware upgrades only work on XP. How can I get the right working units?

You can try to get some old Zen players.All new Zen players need at least Windows XP to work and sometimes even the last service pack. If you know that the Zen Micro works on Windows 2000 with a previous firmware, I think that you can find easily on the web this firmware or simply ask to Creative.

Zen Micro firmware update, but can't backup files b/c "player is not connect

I want to update the firmware on my Zen Micro 5GB so I can put new songs on it through Creative Mediasource, but the computer won't read the device---all i get is the error message "player not connected." I opened up the firmware download, however, and i am able to install it on the player (somehow now the computer seems to know the player is there--the zen micro responds to the update), but it warns to backup all files as they will be lost in the update. I cannot backup my songs to the computer because it won't recognize the player as connected! What the heck can i do to backup my files?

what in the world? i unplugged my zen micro from the USB port as i was giving up for the night trying to make it work, when i decided to try it one last time. all of a sudden creative mediasource popped up from the minimize and it read my player like normal. very strange...

Can the Zen 4gb work on Macbook running Bootcamp Windows Vist

With the falling Macbook prices from Apple, I am considering getting one within the next few month. I know that officially the Creative Zen 4gb would not work nati'vely on the Macbook however I am planning to install Windows Vista via Bootcamp and was wondering if I would face any problem syncing the Zen 4gb under Windows Vista on the Macbook hardware ?

I had a similar problem trying to install Win7 x64 on my 2009 iMac. I finally copied the entire Boot Camp driver folder from the OS X installation DVD to Windows. Then I went to \drivers\bootcamp64.msi, right-clicked on it and selected Troubleshoot Compatibility. Windows chugged a bit and came up with a dialog that said Try Recommended Settings. Click on that, then Start Program. The Boot Camp installer now worked great.

Zen 4GB not detected anymore .... what can I do

My Creative Zen 4GB currently encounters troubles ... I have never had problems with it before today ... While plugged onto my computer (XP 32 bits) it is NOT detected making me unable to do anything with it ...
I have tried :
- uninstalling/reinstalling the Creative Explorer Soft
- turning off/on each USB "bay" on my computer.
- reinstalling the firmware.
What should I do, please ?

I tried on both my computer and my brother's one using ANOTHER USB cable ... still not working ...
It may be useful you know that I had already had this problem. I went to the "Service Apr?s Vente" ... I don't know the English name for the "reparing service" ... On THEIR computer, there was not any problem, my mp3 was properly working ... Meanwhile, my own computer had problems, so I had to format it. After having formatted both my computer and my mp3 evertything was properly working .... until now ... :S
The "reparator" told me my problem could come from the "MTP services" ... after having searched onto the web ... I did not find something helpful ...

Suggestion for renaming new Zen 4GB/8GB/1

Just bought myself a new "Zen 4GB". I think Creative should rename it to "Zen Paperclip". Seem i
need to reboot it several times (7 times in 2 days). Talk about product quality issues. What
a waste of $30.
No mention on the box either that it doesn't support UMS - how many media players out there don't
act as a mass storage devices these days. Even my old 3rd gen ipod can be mounted on my Linux box
as a disk and i can copy files onto it and play. Maybe even "Zen Microsoft" as a name ?
My wife's calling it the "Zen paperweight" - it's too light for even that job...
Off to the Apple store.. The new iTouch looks nice. Well it doesn't have a SD slot, but that doesn't
work too well according to this list, and no radio, but i can browse the web, and have a lot more apps
soon, maybe even internet radio.
Bad Creative, bad..

I was not comparing a 4GB model with a 8GB iTouch which is their base model iTouch. So there's only $00 in it if you compared 8gb with 8gb. Plus you are looking at much better features and stability on the apple (or so my friend tells me). Half the so called features on the Zen don't work very well, and i'm not the only one. Look at this very forum.

I told you. I have one, and it doesn't support UMS. You cannot plug it into a Mac or Linux and see the device. You are limited to MTP support only ! If you give your player to someone else who doesn't have the MTP driver installed in windows it will NOT work as a plain storage device. Try it before you respond.
And no i don't disconnect it while it's docked when it decides to crash/hang. Even if i did i'd consider it a bug in the firmware nevertheless.Message Edited by terraforma on 0-4-20072:46 PM

Zen 4GB char

Hey you all. I need some experienced creative users. I have been through about every trouble shooting process available and hasn't gotten me anywhere. I have been trying to charge this player 0 to 5 days and nights. It will?get a very small charge that is used up in 0 minutes. I am so crazy over this. You know, we get a new toy and expect it to play right out of the box ( the American way?). Is there any compatible chargers that I could use. With my 3 teenagers and there are a bunch of connectors and outlets and miscellaneous garbage around. My player was a gift The person I got it from is disappointed it didn't come with a charger and I can't imagine getting a player you can't use because the company doesn't include such luxuries, like what you need to use the **bleep** thing like a charger. To the guy with the dead zen....try using the reset "hole". Ya gotta find it first!? Get a magnifying glass and a straight pin. That's what I had to do when my zen stopped responding.
I have a zen 4gb. As we all know it comes with that itty bitty tiny 5" short USB cable.
I refuse to pay $30 for a uni'versal charger". However, hanging the little thing by it's little neck upon the front of my computer on a 5" cable until it is charged is just plain not right. To me it is anyway.
?I am willing to purchase a longer USB cable but Creative does not offer one and I am not sure what the connector specs are. USB 2.0 to mini-USB? Can anyone help me to pick the correct cable?
I have seen the suggestion that I might be able to utilize the charger for my Motorola Razor mobile telephone but I where do I check for the voltage specs to be sure that the amps/voltage is compatable?

Creative ZEN 4gb compatible with Creative MediaSource

Hi,
I was just wondering if I can use my new Creative Zen 4gb with Creative MediaSource. I really like MediaSource and I would prefer to use it the only problems is when ever I connect it its keep locking up and crashing especially when I go to creative playlists. I used to use mediasource for my Zen Micro. Any suggestion? or does creative no longer support MediaSource with there new players?Thanks!

Creative Zen 4GB bad memory sector

I've tried formatting via the Zen onboard formatter, formatting it though the computer, uploading files though the onboard SD importer and though the computer. Ibelievethat a sector of my flash memory has died. I want to try and do a zero-out of the data, much like on a regular hard dri've, in witch this feels like the only option. But I don't know a way because of the fun limitations of<span class="Apple-style-span">MTP. And I'vebengoogling for months on how to fix this, but nothingusefulhas been dug up. Is there a way to fix the broken sector I have Macs, most WindowsMachinesand Linuxmachines, so I have no platform limitations. I would like for it to be as easy as a full formatinsteadof the quick-formats it seems to perform every time I try a conventional format.

Creative zen 4gb won't turn on manually and acting stra

My Creative zen 4gb can only be turned on when I connect it first to the computer, and after that, I can turn it on without the use of a computer. But if I don't use for a few hours, it won't turn on again, and I have to connect it to the computer again ( I can turn it on again, if I had just turned it off though). Even if battery is full, I get the same problem. ?I've also used the recovery tool to update the firmware, nothing's changed.
I've also done a clean up and reboot of the player. I still have the same problem. I've also noticed now, after doing all these things that when I play music, after a few songs, maybe 30-40 minutes after, it turns off by itself, and if I get to turn it on, it'sdoes a rebuilding of the files. ?Any idea how I can fix this? I've only had this player for a month or two only. I haven't done a format though... Thanks.

hello, sorry, i dont think i made myself clear. I meant by pulling on the on button for a split second will either make my device flash a blank white screen, or the side of device will display blue( like it will if the device was on) ?and the sound will fuzz for a sec, but neither of these will result in the device starting up. i just want the wonder if that is normal and will that damage the device.
ps.
i already know The correct way to start up my device is to pull down on the button for 2+ secs.
