My Zen Micro won't Start Up!!!!!!! (Please answ

My zen froze on me when i was playing a song
So i removed the battery and restarted it but
It never goes past the "Creative Screen" and it makes a funny noise
Can someone please Help me out!!!!

One possible thing to still try is to let the ZM sit idle for 24 hours (or, in the case of the one that won't shut down, you have to make it lose the whole battery until it goes dead), meaning until the normal standby is off so that the ZM doesn't remember the last song played anymore and where it left off. That way, the OS is really started new when you switch the ZM on, it MAY make a difference.
Else ... contact support and have your player sent in.
Weird ... we are getting an aweful lot of really screwed ZMs recently here in the forum ... for many different reasons, but still ...
btw, could you two post here what firmware you were using at the time of breakdown?
Cheers,
Jan.

• My Zen Micro won't start!

Hi,
my zen micro turns on when it is connected to the computer. but it only says, "creative, copyright...." how do i get it to start again? i tried it on different computers to see if it was a pc problem but that didn't help either. then, i tried charging the battery but that didn't work. THEN, i tried removing the battery and putting it in again. yet, NO LUCK!! does this mean i have to buy a new battery for my mp3 player? HEEELLPPP ME. =)

Mine had the same problem except recorvery mode doesn't work; it'll just freeze if you select to Clean Up, Format, Reload Firmware, or reboot.
It happened to my previous Zen Microphoto also. Simply put, its junk.

• ZEN MICRO WON'T SYNC CONTACTS NOW .....

My Zen Micro won't sync contacts from Outlook Li've now (when it did before) .... get an error message:
"CTSync
X Unspecified error"
I'm using Outlook Li've (2003) that is linked to my hotmail e-mail; like I said, everything sync'ed fine before!
I've tried all the new downloads, etc.
I've also formatted the player several times.
I can still syn music, tasks, and calendar.
How do I resolve this issue ... no one from Creative Labs has been able to provide any assistance with the issue(s).

FernIe, I have the exact same problem, although now my Zen Micro won't turn on at all via the switch.
My Zen Micro is 5 months old and its only been over the past few weeks I've been having problems. It started with having to hold the switch in the power on position for a least 30 secs and trying it at least 5-0 times before the player would turn on, and having to remove the battery to turn it off. Now, not matter how many times I try the switch or how long i hold it for, the player won't turn on.
The battery is fully charged and I have never had problems with the headphone jack, and I haven't dropped it or done any damage to it that I think could be causing it. I'm having to turn it on by plugging it into my computer through the USB cable and then unlpugging it once its on, it's a pain doing this and means if I want to use it later I have to keep it on, muted, in my bag all day with the lock turned on (that end of the switch works) then once its turned off I can't turn it on again until I get near a computer again.
I've searched the discussions and knowledge base but haven't found an answer. I've just emailed the support team and I'm waiting for their response, would be interested to know what they've told you.
Just letting you know your not alone and I feel your pain!

• ZEN Micro won't turn Off and now won't turn

Hi Everyone, hope you can help me out here.
I have been using my ZEN micro for about week now and it was at first working fine.
Then it started not turning off, so i had to pull out the battery.
This is obviously very annoying, but it got worse over time.
It now won't turn on unless i switch it about 30-40 times.
What is going on, is there a way to fix it and is anyone experiencing the same problem?
Thanks very much,
Fern

• Zen micro freez at start

Hi!
My zen micro can not start anymore. It freez at the Creative screen and the harddri've makes "klick" sounds. I can start the recovery Mode but Clean Up and Format All also freez with the HD making click sounds. This all started when I was deleting files and the deleting progess freezed and I could not turn the zen micro off. So I put the battery out and after that the zen micro didnt start anymore.
What can I do?
Thank you.

If the recovery mode options you've mentioned hang or freeze then the player is most likly faulty. Some people have mentioned that some other micro dri've players sometimes get jammed. The remedy they seem to mention is giving the player a slap on the back of the player to un-stick the head, This is something that you do at your own risk and could well void the warrenty.

• ZEN MICRO FIRMWARE DOWNLOAD PROBLEM! PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!

I've had my 6gb micro for a little over 2 wks..and i wanted to download the free 30 day Napster to go offer that came with my package..and one of the steps before downloading Napster was updating Zen Micro's firmware..well i tried and it downloaded and after it asked me to select my language, i got a message saying: "your player's not connected, please connect your player" and my mp3 was hooked up through the USB..so i tried reconnecting and it still said the same...so at this time i skipped over updating this firmware and downloaded my subscription to Napster anyway...everything was working fine..i was downloading songs in Napster and syncing them with windows media player 0 which i already had on my comp...but about 5 days ago, my syncs began to start failing often...and I'm sure that i need these firmware updates for my mp3 to transfer files successfully but the problem is that my mp3 is not being recognized every time i try to install these firmware updates.... I'm quite stumped at this point.....DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY HELP THEY CAN OFFER ME.. ID GREATLY APPRECIATE IT by the way the firmware version that came with my player and is currently on it is 2.20.05

The firmware version you have is fine for Napster tracks, so you don't need to update. If your transfers are failing, there's something else going on.

• Zen Micro is not starting-up correc

My Zen Micro is having problems while starting up. When you first turn the player on, it goes to a Creative screen. Then it displays Zen Micro. Usually, after this screen, it will go to the main menu. But mine stays at the Zen Micro screen. I'm not able to turn it off either; I have to take the battery out. It is not recognizing the USB cable either. Can anyone please help me?
Thanks.

Put your zen near your ear, and listen if you hear some ticking inside,
i had the same problem and heard some ticking inside,
This means that your harddri've has crashed
but i was lucky and had guarantee
But i hope you hear a thing.

• My Zen Micro won't even turn

Hey guys. I need help. I have?a Zen Micro....4GB I believe...and I can't even get it to turn on. I read that you can put it in recovery mode by pushing play while powering up but it won't even do that. I've tried plugging it in to both my wall charger and computer with no luck. Does anyone know what I can do or have I wasted my money by investing in a Zen Micro? The warranty is up as I have had it for about 3 months. Please Help!? Thanks!

First you probably need a new battery for the player. Second if you have not erased your firmware LEAVE IT ALONE. The firmware will not fix needing a battery.Post after gettig new battery.

• ZEN MICRO won't hold it's charge!!!!!!!!!!

I have owned a 5GB Zen Micro for about 3 years. Up until about 4 months ago I had no problem with the unit holding it's charge for several hours. Now I can't get it to last for more than 0-5 minutes when using the FM radio. By that time the battery indicator shows hardly any charge left and then it does dead. Any [email protected]

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I had considered the possibility that the battery may indeed be at the end of it's life. As it turned out I also googled the model and battery name, and came up with a Canadian site that had?them on ?sale and decided that with postage it would be just as cheap as getting it'sdirectly from?the US with higher postage costs and the exchange rate. I love this model so much I hope to keep using it for years to come provided I have no further more costly problems. Despite it's greater thickness compared to similiar models it is a very attracti've looking unit.
The reason I chose?the Zen Micro?in the first place, as opposed to an iPod?was because I could replace the battery if need be, and also for it's FM radio capability. I?did have to have the chip that contains the earphone jack connections replaced last year, as many other owners have also had to do. But it was worth the $60 it cost me.

I had originally planned to buy an iPod back in '04, because everyone else had one, but after I saw? this video I decided to do some more research. I ended up with a 5 Gb Zen Micro in February '05 and wondered why anyone buys an iPod, when a far superior product was available from Creative.
The original battery started? to go about a year and a half ago, so I popped a new one in and kept on enjoying it. I thought that I would finally have to say goodbye to my little friend when I accidentally dropped it onto a tile floor. The dreaded click/whirr...click/whirr...click/whirr... of a dead hard dri've.
I read a few posts on the Say Goodbye to My Little Friend (Zen Micro)? thread and replaced the dead hard dri've with a SanDisk 8Gb? Ultra II Compact Flash card, using the instructions on? this page.
I was so happy to see it boot up aain and once the firmware was loaded, I started filling it up with some of my favourite music. It's nice to have an extra 3 Gb of storage space too!?

Try starting the player into Recovery Mode, see if that works:

Move and hold the Power button to the Power On position and re-insert the battery to the Zen Micro. Hold the Power button until the rescue mode appears.

• Zen Micro Installation help...please

I just got a 5 gig Zen Micro. All was well until I attempted to install the program in the computer, which led to "Error code -600", which told me to clear my temp folder and check my internet connections. I have a cable connection, windows XP, and Norton antivirus. Does this have anything to do with my problem? If not, what am I doing wrong?
please, someone, help. I'm about to ritually disassemble my micro.
thanks and happy holidays
-CmF

ok i found the problem.
after a few hours of googling i found that the error is caused by an outdated version of windows installer.
to fix this problem on your computer find the folder
C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield
and rename it to
C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield-old
and then run your install again that should fix your problem

I (and many other people who own Creative products) had the same display issue that you are experiencing. I own a Creative Zen Micro. When I turned it on, the back blue light came on, but the screen was completely blank!? I could play my music, but could not see the menu, etc.
I first tried to do the reboot process, then I also upgraded the firmware. Nothing worked. After writing to Creative Labs tech support, they informed me that my MP3 player was one month beyond the warranty period. It would cost $85-$35 for tech support to fix the display problem. Ridiculous!? My techie friend told me that since it was already out of warranty, it would not hurt for me to pop open the back and see if maybe the connector from the main board to the display was loose. Well, I got even luckier than that. I openned the back, removed the battery, then I moved the back plate around trying to figure out how to pop it off. Since it was not as easy as my friend had said, I put everything back together to take it to him for help. I?turned the MP3 player on to make sure it still worked and the display was fixed!? I am thinking there must have been something loose or I just got really lucky. Anyway, it has been over 6 months and the display still works. Who knows, try what I did and maybe the same thing will happen to you. I feel for you. It is so frustrating when you spend money on something that breaks and find out it is a known issue. Good luck.

• One more iBook won't start. Please help...

Hi,
I apologise for my English from the very beginning. Be patient please...
I see from older topics that I am having a rather common problem. I just got this iBook G3 900 MHz 12' 680 Mb RAM from Ebay. It lasted 5 days (working fine) and then it suddenly died.
I have already tried all possible key combinations for PMU resets and carefully read the help page in case when a portable won't start. No good.
Here are the synthoms more in detail: The battery would not charge (it has only 1 flashing light out of four and I was warned before it died that its charge level was getting low). The ibook now don't start, even with the power adapter hooked up.
If this can help, the ring light on the adapter cord is green when the battery is on, and removing the battery turns the light to amber.
I started reading Internet discussions and it sounded an DC in-board problem, and I've already found a replacement from a friend...
BUT...
I did a further test tonight taking the battery for an identical ibook of a friend and when I put his battery on mine, it started up and kept being up only for me to see that the battery level was getting low low low --- dead again. Now, my friend is pretty sure that his battery was at least half-charged but to me it seems very strange that my ibook would drain away all power from a battery in 10 seconds. Can it be a short circuit ???
Back on Internet, I have discovered these Apple discussions, so before beginning unscrewing the whole ibook to replace the DC-in board (I understand this is not the easiest piece to change) I wanted to have your advice on something I might have missed with my "diagnosis".
Could it be the "famous" logic board everyone is complaining about ? The ibook was bought in August 2003 so I am still eligible for the replacement. Could it possibly be ? I though that ibooks with such a problem did boot up...
Sorry. I wrote too much. Thank you in advance for any help you might be willing to give me...
ibook G3 900 MHz Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
No problems with your English whatsoever.
Have you tried your friend's adapter with the iBook? Was your iBook plugged into the adapter when it rapidly discharged your friend's battery? It could be an adapter problem. The adapter should show green when the battery is not installed, and amber when it is — exactly the opposite of what you are seeing. The amber light is supposed to indicate that the battery is charging. The green light means that it is NOT charging. When things are working right, the green light means the battery has stopped charging because it is completely charged. When things aren't working right, it just means the battery isn't charging — for whatever reason. Since your adapter is showing the lights the opposite of what it is supposed to do, it's an indication that it may not be working right.
These are the four most common possibilities when the battery will not charge:
(1) there is something wrong with your battery
(2) there is something wrong with your power adapter
(3) there is something wrong with your power input board (the part that contains the port where you plug in the adapter)
(4) there is something wrong with your logic board
To diagnose a bad DC-in board, you need to make sure it isn't the battery or the adapter at fault by swapping out first one and then the other, If it runs from a known good charged battery okay, but won't run from a known good adapter, then you are going to have to replace the power input board.
Usually, if it is a logic board problem, the iBook simply will not run from the battery. This happened to mine. The battery showed up in the battery status indicator. It was recognized by the computer and charged by the adapter (as shown by the battery status indicator). However, when I unplugged the adapter from the iBook, it was just like pulling the power cord from the wall on a desktop. The iBook immediately shutdown. Dead.
My husband’s problem was quite obviously the power input (DC-in) board because the adapter tip had broken off in the port. Often (and, sadly, in our case), this damages the power input board so that it no longer functions, necessitating replacement of the board as well as the broken adapter.
Your experience does not exactly match either of ours. It is my best hunch that if your adapter is not the problem, then it is the logic board and not the DC-in board at fault. However, this is not the problem covered by the iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program.
Since you already have the extra DC-in board, if it proves not to be the adapter at fault, you may want to try installing the DC-in board, in hopes that will correct the problem.
Good luck.

• My G5 won't start up - Please help!

My Power Mac G5 won't start up! I turn it on and hear the start up chime, then the fan goes as usual and then it appears to be starting up - then it gets to initializing network connections (I think!) then the screen goes blue and it freezes! Does anybody have any idea why this is happening? Please help!

Hi viccilogan-
In that case, I offer a few more documents for your perusal and prior to actually being in front of the unit and able to troubleshoot.
The following may be helpful:
Mac OS X: Slow Startup, Pauses at "Initializing network" or "Configuring network time"
our Mac won't start up in Mac OS X (Mac OS X 10.3.9 or earlier) (although the title indicates otherwise this stuff applies and there are a bunch of good links.

• 2 month new Zen Micro, won't fully charge via

I have the zen micro 5gb and here's what been happening
Up until the last month the micro would charge up just fine. Now, it won't charge past one bar and it does show the charging icon in the upper right hand corner.
My USB connections are USB 2.0 at work and home and it won't fully charge. I ran the battery completely out of juice to try a fresh charge approach. I know the micro is getting power because it will run while plugged into my usb cable.
Oh yeah, recently, after the water drop on the screen, it usually loads the zen micro logo, then rolls right to the now playing screen. Recently, it sticks for about 0 seconds, and the touch pad is inacti've.
Before I deal with taking it back to BestBuy, I figured I'd see if there's anything I can try before.

You don't have to, but if your USB power is marginal it ensures that ALL the power is dedicated to charge the player.
I just switched it to lock and it is pulsing. When I'm at work I have to use my usb connection to charge and I can't load the driver onto my work machine. If it is not pulsing, is it only just using the usb for power?
It's only using the USB power for the data connection.
What's the deal with the pusling?
It shows the player is charging.
Also, what's the benefit of upgrading the firmware to v2?
See the link "the difference between the Zen Micro v and v2 firmware" in the FAQ post.
