My Zen Vision:M is just messed up... Please he

Okay, I've had my Zen for about 2 months now. When I first installed it, everything was working like a dream. i loved it.
But then I had to reformat my computer, and thats when Hell broke loose.
I installed the software that came with it, restarted and everything. I plugged in my player and I got the "Unrecognized Device" Beep. I couldnt get my computer to recognize it for the life of me.
So, I searched around Google and found a thread in these forums. Apparently there are a lot of people having the same problem. The user 'DM' posted the fixes for it and everything.
So, I installed those and I got it to work. "YESSSS" I thought to myself.
Well, now things are messed up again... And I have no idea what caused it.
I tried reinstalling the software and reinstalling the fixes. No prevail.
And the weirdest thing is happening. I plug it in, and I get the "Doo Doo" USB sound that comes up like it recognizes it. But It doesnt recognize it. It lies.
And so if I unplug it, MY COMPUTER RESTARTS.
So, I have it plugged in, and in the Device manager, it recognizes it as an MTP Device. It says its working properly. The driver is up to date and everything. But if I click either 'Disable' or 'Uninstall', my computer restarts.
When the player is plugged in, it charges and everything, BUT MY COMPUTER WON'T READ IT!!!!
What can I do to fix this TRAVESTY?!

Is there any hope?
It seems that when people buy these things, they work perfectly fine up until they reformat their computer, then it stops working.
What's the deal?
Everytime I unplug my Vision:M, my computer just restarts... And I don't know why. I've set the USB permissions, I have all latest drivers. I have tried both WMP 0 & with all their fixes/updates.
I just don't know what to do anymore. I can't sync my player at all with my computer.
Is Creative going to release a Firmware/Software update that fixes all these connection problems?

  • Zen Vision:M Problem (Firmware + Recovery Mode) (please un-sti

(apologies on the sticky, i misclicked!)
I've had my Zen Vision:M 30GB for over a year now, and I absolutely love it! Unfortunately, while on my New Years vacation this past week I accidentally dropped it after it tangled in my headphones. Immediately afterwards, I started getting the "recovery mode" problem that seems to crop up. Unable to get past this(it booted only once every million-or-so tries), I decided to use the "MP3 recovery tool" from Creative's site
Unfortunately, it froze up halfway through, and now is giving me a "Hard Disk error". I tried to reformat, and it seemed to wipe it clean...but now it wont even recognize it when I plug it into my USB port to put in new firmware! (The PC recognizes it, but not the Firmware installation)
    I don't know what else I can do....any ideas/help, please?
(I looked at Creative's support pages, but they only deal with Warranty repairs, which I don't have as it was a gift.) Can they repair/replace a broken non-warranty player, and if so, for how much?
Or is there another solution I haven't tried yet?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

  • Zen Vision M quer

Got my Zen Vision M recently, just wondering I'm havin some weird lag problems..
e.g. If I start playing a music track, the play timer will lag for at least 0 seconds, before it counts properly.. i.e. jumping from 3, to 7 seconds etc.
Although this is no major problem to the music listening function.. :P, I am just wondering if this is normal.
    Thanks for the help people.

    Hi,
Thanks for the details. FYI you'll need to use Creative media source or Windows Media Player 0 or higher to transfer protected WMA file content (typically downloads from music services),
Regarding the click from the disk well there will be some noise but it should not be audible. Certainly any Zen V M unit on my desk here in a fairly quiet office environment does not create a noise that I can pick up on. So if there is an audible noise coming from the unit in a similar scenario you may be looking at a problem with the disk or read heads. It would certainly explain the lag you?re getting.
Anyway I?d suggest formatting the unit and then transferring on of your albums via Media Source (rather than drag and drop). Or Sync the player with your music library from Microsoft Media Player. This will eliminate the possibility of bad sectors on the disk itself or disk fragmentation, though as the unit is so new I can't see it being either of those but it'ss better to be thorough.

  • Zen Vision M Music Trans

HI?I would like to know whether i can transfer music and videos to the zen vision M by just drag and drop option i.e. using my players as?Mass Storage device or i have to do it through the software that is provided my Creative. ThanksHemang Dhagai

    Hi !
If you put your Vision: M into a UMS device, it partitions the player. So, when you plug in your Vision: M into the computer, you will just see the part that you have taken from the player as a memory device and you cannot see your music files and the system files.
If you want to drag-and-drop your media files, connect your player, open MediaSource, select the button "Browse Media" and depending of what kind of media you're putting, select the appropriate folder and drop your files on it!
Hope to help you out !

  • Zen Vision:m 60gb "Hardware Problem" Error Mess

My Zen Vision:m has been rebuilding after every startup so I decided to use the recovery tool to fix the problem. In the middle of updating the firmware, the process froze, my player rebooted and now it displays an error message that just says "hardware problem". I can't turn off the player, and it just returns to the error message when I reset, not allowing for me to reboot in recovery mode. Any help would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

  • There's video problems with my Zen Vision:M already (M video cable related) Please help

    Some background...
System:Windows XP with Service Pack 2.
Player: Brand new Creative Zen Vision: M with no firmware updates.
My Zen Vision:M has a problem (besides the scratch and fingerprint attracting top surface): It won't play videos on a TV screen when the M Video Cable (also from Creative) is linked to it anymore. It's only been a few hours...
I had the cable already, and got the player today. I let the player charge to /4th of a battery while I was setting up all the software. I ran the software programs just to take a peek, only changing the name of my player (to my name). I used Winamp 5.3 to put a music track on the player to test it. After that, I hooked it up to the VCR in my room through the white and yellow A/V plugs in front. It worked just fine. It to the tv a little large, but I was okay with it.
Later on today, the new AC charger I ordered came in the mail (Player came through UPS, charger through USPS). I looked at my old charger (Creative Zen Touch) and realized it would work with the plug-in part of the sync unit at the bottom. I tested it for a minute and it did. I still took it out and tried the new one. This is where, I think, something happened. I had to press the sides to get the thing in, and it was hard to come out. Everything still fit just right, and nothing seemed to be wrong. I used my old charger as I added more of my music library. Now it was on to videos. I had to convert the first two test vids (they were .wmv), but they played on my player fine. I put a bigger .wmv file onto the player to see if it had to convert it, and it did. It still played on the player. When I go to hook it to the TV with the A/V cord again, there was nothing but a black screen with the occasional diagonal scan line. The sound is still there.
Besides quirks with the navigational system, the player is still great for music and video. Still, I needed no video capability, and one of the things that made the ZVM a buy for me was watching my vids on the big screen. I'd return this for a second try, but I want to know if this is a recurring issue with you guys and if there's something I can do to fix it before a return. Did I mess with a setting? Should I get new firmware? Did I do wrong using my old charger? If any of you have an answer, or need more info on my situation, please let me know.
And BTW, does anyone know of some better software for organizing files on the ZVM? I used Winamp for my Zen Touch and the music on my ZVM, but videos are another ballpark. I can't transfer a video from one folder to another folder (assuming both folders are on the ZVM). Not to mention the music I transferred using Winamp isn't even showing up in Windows Media Player. I think I need a different program altogether.

I have got a new Creative Zen Vision W and getting the same problem....when i attach to the tv then i am able to hear the audio content and the video does not show. Are we missing something ? or is it a problem with the player. Also the software provided with the Zen converts small .vob files to .wmv when ever the size is large it gives an error 'conversion?unsucessful'.Any body facing similar problems please help.

  • Zen Vision:M 30GB recognition problems...Big t

Hi, 2 days ago i ran into a problem with my Zen. I had to charge it, as the battery was low and had to put some new music on it.. I plugged it into the USB port on my Laptop, where all of it's software is installed. The Zen wasn't recognized. Instead of the charging screen it normally started up with, it started up with the play screen(the screen it shows when a song is playing). I looked at the battery icon in the top right corner, and it wasn't doing anything. I turned the Zen off and started it up again. Nothing changed. I restarted my computer. Nothing changed. I shut down my computer and started it back up again. Nothing changed.
I took it to my desktop computer, a Compaq, and tried it there. It worked, but not how i was expecting it to work. The battery icon started flashing with the little lightning bolt, acknowledging that it was charging. But the play screen was still there. The odd thing with this is, i left the player to charge for several hours. When i came back, the Zen was in some form of idle shut-down. The screen was black, except for the battery icon with the lightning bolt. Oddly enough, he battery bar hadn't filled up anymore than when i left it. Upon unplugging the player though, the Zen turned off. When i turned it back on, the bar had filled up more. It wasn't fully charged though.
I plugged the cable back into it, and this time, the battery icon WASN'T charging. It just had the play screen on. It wasn't doing ANYTHING this time. Frustrated, i went out and bought the wall charger, and now i have a full battery. But it doesn't solve why my computer won't recognize my player.
Today, i un-installed the software that came with the player and re-installed it. It didn't do anything. I installed the software on my desktop computer, and THAT didn't work either. So i came to the website here and used the trouble-shoot guide. That didn't help, and this is where my problem differs from the other posters here who have recognition problems:
Back to my laptop: I have Windows Service Pack 2. I installed Windows Media Player . I went to the Device Manger, like the trouble-shoot guide said to. The kicker: Windows Portable Devices is NOT, i repeat NOT in my Device Manager. Neither does the Creative player either. I clicked on "The player does not appear in Device manager". That link showed me a diagram of a desktop computer, so went back to my desktop computer. I did everything above mentioned, and Windows Portable Devices is not in the device manager of my desktop computer either. Further reading the trouble-shoot guide, i could NOT locate "Other Devices" or "Unknown Devices" in my Device Manger on either desktop or laptop. There's nothing "Creative" related or "Zen" related at all in any of the Device programs.
I don't know what to do. All of the trouble-shoot guides don't discuss my issue at all. Everything is "If an MP3 player is reported working properly in Device Manager, but it is not detected or listed in Windows Media Player or Creative Media Explorer..."
Mine isn't even detected in Device Manager. My Device Manager has nothing regarding my Zen or Windows Portable Devices.
I'm thinking about messing with it in Recovery mode, but i don't want to erase everything i have on here, just to have my player still not work. I'm going to try messing with this at my friend's house to check the cable and the player there too.
But any help regarding my situation would be greatly appreciated. This is driving me crazy.

I tried my uncle's Zen Vision: M 30GB on my laptop and strange things happened. My laptop recognized the player as an unknown device and said i needed to install the MTP driver. I did that, and upon doing so, my laptop recognized my Uncle's player as a Portable device, allowing me to transfer songs to his player. But it STILL doesn't recognize MY player. Email support says i have to send it in for repairs, but i don't know...
    Any luck with you?

  • Zen Vision M problem! plz H

Hey guys... I know alot of people have been having problems with recognizing their ZVM's... and I've read alot of these forums, but I still need help. Here's my problem:
I bought my Zen Vision M and it immediatly worked. I threw a few albums in there... but I went back to it and it no longer recognized it. In the system it recognized it as properly working so a simple reset and rebuild figured the mess out. I took it on a trip and I came home to charge it and it no longer recognizes the Zen. Windows says its an unknown device and it wont even charge. Its low on batteries right now. Ive tried to reinstall the software and what not. The properties say its not working properly and has something to do with the drivers... I thot a reinstall would help but I got nothing. If anyone could lead me towards a solution Id really appreciate it. I really like the Zen Vision M and wanna get it working again. Thanks...

my sister is having a similar problem with her ZVM. hopefully a solution is found soon. i heard that going into [url="http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=dap&message.id=5530#M5530">recove ry mode [/url]might be helpful, but we havent tried it yet...in the meantime, i think we're just going to call tech support. good luck with your ZVM!

  • Zen Vision M not connecting

?I've searched through everything I could find here and tried them all, to no avail. Here's what's happened. My Zen Vision M (30 Gb) wouldn't start when connected to 3 different PCs I use it with. I figured it needed firmware update or something, so I tried that, but all update tools say I need to connect the Zen. I tried clean up and formatting all to no avail. Same not connected issue. Then I searched through the forum and saw the exclamation point in device manager issue, so I uninstalled and then plugged it back in. No more exclamation point and it shows up in device manager, but none of the firmware update options recognize the Zen is connected (or Media Player 0 or ). Device manager says it's operating fine, but Zen Media Explorer, MP3 recovery tool, and Media player do not recognize it as connected. Since it's older, all Creative said was EOSL... Are there things I haven't tried?

Re: Zen Vision M not connecting,Thanks, I had thought I'd tried everything, but as it turns out, one laptop I was using that I thought had Media Player 0 had . I don't think my player was ever exposed to 0, but I rolled back one on a laptop to 0 and then tried the firmware updater I had saved on that laptop and it worked! I'm back in business!? Now am reloading about 25 Gb of music, but that's a pain I can deal with. I tried the different cords and as for OS, one is Vista, one XP Media Center, and one XP. All are up-to-date with service packs etc. I had just updated Norton 360 and I read somewhere that it can mess up USB ports, so that may have started all the fun. In the end, thanks to all in these forums as I never would have thought of rolling back Media Player and the other things I did. Kudos to all....

  • Zen Vision M Explorer won't import fi

I have the Zen Vision Media Explorer loaded on two Win XP Home computers. I upgraded both to WMP . I was having trouble syncing some audio files to another mp3 player on my main computer, so I rolled WMP back to version 9. Ever since then the import wizard doesn't work. It says it's transferring files, but it just sits there. There's nothing wrong with the player, as I can transfer files using the other computer. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Zen Vision M Explorer, but it still won't?import files. How do I fix this?

I was able to solve this myself, and I will go through the solution in case anyone else has this problem. Reinstalling the Zen Vision Explorer software with no result indicated to me that there was something else causing the problem. I discovered that simply uninstalling WMP via Add/Remove Programs (i.e., rolling the player back to the earlier version) isnt enough, although at this point WMP 9 seemed to function properly. According to a Microsoft KB article Readme for Windows Media Player for Windows XP, rolling the player back also requires removing two more files from Add/Remove Programs, Windows Media Format Runtime and Microsoft User-Mode Driver Framework Feature Pack .0.0. (Now doing these last two uninstalls also messes up WMPs DRM component, so that certain wma files wont play, in my case digital books. I had to find a security component upgrade for WMP 9 on Microsofts website and run it to get WMP fully functioning again.) Before I made any of these changes I had uninstalled the Zen Vision Explorer. I now reinstalled it, the result being, the import wizard works again.

  • Zen Vision: M Explorer does not recognize my mp3 player he

Seemingly, my Zen Vision: Micro is not recognized by the Zen Vision: M explorer software. My computer recognizes the hardware as present (being a verified physical connection via USB port and the mp3 player itself). I am currently running Windows XP professional with service pack 2 as instructed via technical support but to no avail. However, when running my old damaged Zen Touch, the computer and the software recognize it as being present and I have access to the dri've.
I am wondering whether or not it's a hardware issue, which I believe it to be. The issue is, that I cannot return it to Newegg (which I ordered from) because they have deactivated the product (reasons which remain unknown, which sucks because my warranty is from them so I don't know what I'm going to do about that). I would not like to bother with the hassle of having to deal with split product supports and was wondering if there were any solutions that would not involve sending back my mp3 player. I have tried messing with registry keyes, system rights, hardware profiles and such as well as reinstalling the software multiple times but to no avail. It plays fine, and looks beautiful, but I can't do anything with it currently...
If anyone has any pointers of which I have not mentioned it would be appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    TheShield

Had the same problem and got no where with creative so I wanted to exchange but there was none left in the shop so I said I would hang onto it untill they got a fresh batch. I only got this problem after a firmware update. I decided to format it and the software picked it up not a problem. And just to confirm I updated the firmware again and again I had the same problem and done a format and yet again the software picked it up so I suggest u format it and see what happens

  • Zen Vision:M on/off switch probl

I've had my vision:m for about a year and a half. Recently my zen vision:m has troubles turning on. It will turn on my i have to mess with the switch for a bit. Sometimes it turns on straight away with only one push of the switch. Sometimes i have to constantly push it back and forth until i finally see the blue Light. So im just wondering does anyone else have a problem with their switch and how can i resolve this. Also i might add when i put it on hold. If i just touch the switch on the top while it is in hold it will go off. Also if i push the hold switch all the way to the end it doesn't work. I have to sort of put it in between neutral and hold, to make it hold.

If it is a hardware problem, then you'd have to speak to Customer Support about the repair options, if you're out of warranty there would be a cost associated with the repair.

  • I use Zen Vision M for gigg

    Hi,
I do solo gigs, I play guitar and sing. I play along to backing tracks as mp3s and plug the ZVM through the PA system. The sound quality is great and it's so handy and portable. I just need to make sure it's fully charged before a gig. I create playlists for the backing tracks I'm going to use, and use the 'Track Once' facility so it doesn't play the next track until I'm ready. I'm just worried that one day it will freeze when I'm doing a gig.

I can see the advantage of flash memory. So far the Zen Vision M hasn't let me down but I guess there's always a first time. I have got a Zen Nano Plus 52Mb aswell, but it doesn't put out enough power. As it is I have to have the ZVM turned up to the max. I have tried the a/v output, but the trouble is you lose the screen then so it's not much good. The backing tracks are great, I've found quite a lot of free ones plus there are some good sites where you can buy them. I used to play in a duo, but the other guy was always messing it up. The ZVM is much more reliable and I don't have to split the gig money either!:smileyvery-happy:
