My Zip files aren't unzipping

I receive PDF-zipped files for work via email attachments, but when I double click on them, the window disappears (a brief flash of a message saying the file is being "archived" flashes, but then nothing.) When I go to my user>library>maildownloads, and click on the file there, the same thing happens.
I tried selecting "open with" to open the PDF files Adobe, but then I get a message saying that the .zip is not a supported file type.
Help!!

As an alternative Download and open with "Stuff it expander"  http://www.stuffit.com/
Right click on your zip file and "open with."
The default ArchiveUtility for opening ZIP files seems to be a little buggy in OS X 10.8.2.

  • Zip files won't unzip

    I have downloaded a couple of zip files, and am trying to use the default Archive utility to unzip them. Instead of opening the files within the zipped folder I'm getting a .cpgz folder with the exact same name... then when I try to open that file it makes a duplicate .zip folder and I just go in circles.
    Any idea what the **** is going on?

    Go to http://www.stuffit.com/mac-expander.html and download the free Stuffit Expander. Once it's on your machine, drop a zip file onto it, and see if it expands. That will eliminate some possible broken items.

  • Zip file won't unZip!!!

    hello,
    I made an archive of some files using the finders "Create Archive" function. Now I cannot get the file to unzip.
    Just when the files appears to finish unzipping I get the following message.
    Unable to unarchive "name of File" into HD 250.
    (Error 1 -Operation not permitted)
    What can I do to unzip this file? HELP!!!
    Thanks

    I use "The Unarchiver" for a couple of months now. Works better than the built in app. Maybe you give it a try:

  • How to read/unzip a specific file within a zip file

    Hi,
    I have a file within a zip file that contains a timestamp - I want to read this timestamp and then create a destination directory for the remaining zip files to be unzipped into. Since I know the name of the file with the timestamp in it I thought I could create a zipfile and use getEntry to get the entry but then other than getting the size and name of the file I can't do much more with it like read it unless I use a stream (zipinputstream) instead of a file (zipfile) - do I have this right?
    Does this mean to get the content I would have to loop through possibly all the files using the stream until I come across the one I want - then get the timestamp and loop through them all again to write them to the destination directory? Or am I reading this wrong - seems a bit round about.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    this works though - and you don't have to loop through all the files - just use the ZipFile:
    ZipEntry ze = zipfile.getEntry("path/to/file");
    BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(zf.getInputStream(ze)));
    line = br.readLine;Thanks!

  • How do you stop automatic unzipping of .zip files

    When downloading a flashable .zip file Yosemite automatically unzips it.  How do you prevent this?

    We've been experimenting with this today.
    You can avoid getting the file by turning off the autodownload in the IM settings. The sender sees the file transfer, but it's not going to your machine. To get the file, you then need to click on it. It IS still going to Skype's servers though waiting to be retrieved and that is a worry.
    A link is generated to retrieve the file. The link is sharable with anyone who is a skype subscriber.
    Are these files ever deleted?
    This makes me worry about the security all files sent via skype since it is the way-station and holder of these files. For instance, is it possible for a computer to check the randomly assigned numbers until they find all sorts of things?
    We are using the 7 series versions.

  • Password Protected Zip Files

    i have recieved a number of password protected zip files which the unzip utility in osx leopard will not open. (i have the correct password).
    i've downloaded a couple of smallish utilities from the download area but they don't seem to be able to accept a password either.
    would someone be kind enough to point me towards a download (hopefully on the apple site) which can accept a password to open a zip file.
    thanks to all.
    ps-in the interests of futility i did try my unrarx application on an off chance it would work. it didn't.

    Here's some you could try. The first two links are to zip utilities for OS X. I can't tell you if they'll do what you need, I just looked for zip programs that work in OS X.
    The third link is for the free Stuffit Expander. The last link is the results for "zip" at VersionTracker. You'll just have to try a bunch of them to find one that hopefully works.

  • How does OS X Mountain Lion handle zip files

    For zipped files do I need a third party app or does the OS take care of zipping and unzipping the files?

    Astonishingly, you cannot do an in place view of the zip file without actually unzipping it. There are some commercial tools that do this, but as a former Windows user, this is just ridiculous and very inconvenient to me.

  • Damaged zip file: "as_windows_x86_bi_tools_101202.zip"

    The "as_windows_x86_bi_tools_101202.zip" is damaged, for the file "stage\patches\oracle.rsf.rdbms.rsf\10.1.0.4.2\1\datafiles\lib.1.1.jar" the CRC check failed by unzip.
    (Part of Application Server 10g release 2 for Windows)
    So please, correct the zip-file.

  • Problems extracting .bin file from .zip file

    Hi Arch Forums,
    I face a very strange problem.
    The firmware of my MP3 player is packaged as a zip file. This zip file contains some files with the 'bin' extension.
    I extract this zip file using the unzip tool and use the resulting bin files to upgrade my MP3 player (just plain copy via USB, no fancy flash-ware). This results in boot problems and video problems on my Mp3 player.
    However if I use 7-zip on Windows XP to extract and upgrade, my MP3 player works properly!
    Now what do I suspect?
    1. .bin files on different partition types? NTFS Vs Ext3.
    2. the unzip tool
    3. USB driver transmission error for bin files?
    Thank you for throwing light on this.

    I would start by doing an md5sum on the extracted bin files on both OSes.  I know there are versions for Windows on the net.
    This will determine if the files are the same in both places.
    You could also through it on a thumb drive under windows, mount it under Linux and then do the MD5 on the file on the thumbdrive.
    My money is on door number 3.  How, exactly, do you send the file over USB?

  • Bulkload with Zip File

    Hello,
    I try to bulkload files following advices to use a zip file and to unzip it in the Content area.
    It worked fine the first day as I hadn't any file in the CA.
    It worked fine the second day after I downloaded a new zip with the same file names in it and choosed overwrite when unzipping it.
    The third day (after unzipping with overwrite option) I went into problems as I coudln't read anymore one of my files.
    After investigation in the wwdoc_document$ table I found the following :
    If you choose to overwrite a file and the size of the new file is bigger than the old one ==> no problems but if the size of the new file is smaller, the doc_size in the wwdoc_document$ table is not updated and the new document (pdf format) is unreadable.
    Is there something to do or is it a bug?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jacques.

    Hi,
    I think I found what was the problem. It seems than in 3.0.7, BLOB field in the WWDOC_DOCUMENT$ isn't replaced by an empty blob before the unzip.
    As a result when overwriting a blob with a smaller one, the doc size remains the one of the old blob and you have remaining information of the preceding blob ==> the file is corrupted when opened.

  • I'm running Firefox 7.0.1 and since the September 30 security update I can no longer unzip zipped files unless I reboot my computer first or run it in Safe Mode. Can anyone help me roll Firefox back to before the update?

    I regularly download zipped files from Survey Monkey. Since the latest security update, the zipped files download to my computer, but when I try and unzip them I get a message telling me the file is in use by another application. If I reboot, I can unzip the file, or if I'm in Safe Mode when I download the file it unzips fine.
    I have tried three different unzip apps and all have the same trouble. Everything was working well after the September 5 update.
    I'm running Windows XP with McAfee antivirus, Spybot, Ad-Aware and Malbytes Anti-malware. All are up to date.

    The URL below is to Adobe's Acrobat update page.
    There you'll find each of the incremental updates to Acrobat 10.
    They must be installed one at a time in sequence.
      http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows
    Now, if after attempted updates fail then you'll need to speak with your IT Department.
    You need your install of Acrobat 10 updated to dot version 10.1.7.
    Be well...

  • Easy way to unzip zipped files?

    I'm trying to figure out an easy way to unzip zipped files.  I'm using C# in VS 4.5.
    I download this:
    http://dotnetzip.codeplex.com/
    I couldn't get any dlls installed.  I couldn't set any reference to anything.
    I also tried to follow the example here:
    http://www.danderson.me/posts/zipfile-class-system-io-compression-filesystem/
    I can't find anything titled 'System.IO.Compression.dll'.  I set a reference to these two:
    System.IO.Compression.FileSystem
    System.IO.Compression
    That did nothing at all.
    For instance, I think this should work:
    using System;
    using System.IO;
    using System.IO.Compression;
    namespace ConsoleApplication
    class Program
    static void Main(string[] args)
    string startPath = @"c:\example\start";
    string zipPath = @"c:\example\result.zip";
    string extractPath = @"c:\example\extract";
    ZipFile.CreateFromDirectory(startPath, zipPath);
    ZipFile.ExtractToDirectory(zipPath, extractPath);
    However, i keep getting an error message that says 'The name 'ZipFile' does not exist in the current context'.
    Knowledge is the only thing that I can give you, and still retain, and we are both better off for it.

    Hi
    Please include the below namespace and try it out.
    System.IO.Compression.FileSystem
    The code would be like this.
    using System;
    using System.IO;
    namespace ConsoleApplication
    class Program
    static void Main(string[] args)
    string startPath = @"c:\example\start";
    string zipPath = @"c:\example\result.zip";
    string extractPath = @"c:\example\extract";
    System.IO.Compression.ZipFile.CreateFromDirectory(startPath, zipPath);
    System.IO.Compression.ZipFile.ExtractToDirectory(zipPath, extractPath);
    Please note that you need to add a DLL reference to the framework assembly
    System.IO.Compression.FileSystem.dll
    Please let me know in case of any questions you may have around this. Thank you.

  • Extension for creating a zip file and unzipping it

    Iam totally new to Dreamweaver and the extensions. So please
    help me with this.
    Assuming i have a .zip file and it contains some html pages
    along with css and gifs.
    The req is to have an Import option, which given this zip
    file, can unzip its contents. The user can work on these html
    pages. When the user finishes working on them, I need an export
    button so that we can package the entire stuff back into a zip
    file.
    How can i implement this ?
    Is there any extension that is available for this ?
    Eagerly looking forward to some useful answers...
    Thanks in advance,
    Ganesh

    There used to be one .. I'm not sure if that was in DMX time
    or DMX 2004
    time .. that, when installed, allowed you to select files
    from the site
    folder or the whole thing and create a zip from them. I don't
    remember what
    it was called or who created it .. but it might be on one of
    my archived
    disks or zips .. I'll try to check it out later today.
