MyBook For Mac not recognised !?

Hi,
I've recently bought a My Book for Mac external hardrive for my MacBook Pro 13". I'm in desperate need to back up all my files from my laptop onto this hardrive as there is no extra storage on my laptop yet the TimeMachine application is not recognising my device? I've searched all over other forums to try and find a solution to my issue but none have worked.
I've tried everything from searching Time Capsule to identify my device to searching Disk Utility and it still is not being recognised.
I've noticed that some people are suggesting ideas that result in erasing the memory on my laptop but the whole reason i'm using this hardrive is to save all the documents i have - not erase them!
The possibility that my software may need to be updated in order for the device to be recognised has also crossed my mind, to which I attempted to update my software to the OS X 10.8.5 update yet that requires over 2gb! Something i do not have!
So I am seriously stuck and have absolutely no clue what to do.
Please help me with my issue, it will be greatly appreciated!

I ran across this discussion trying to figure out how to connect my WD 1TB HD (Fat32) with the E3000 and my MacBook Pro. I have no issues whatsoever with accessing the the router and getting on the internet. I plugged the WD Hard Drive into the back and am trying to access the HD and can't seem to break the code.
I have followed the directions in the manual and get to the login screen and no matter what login/password I use Mac Admin or the Router, which happen to be the same by the way, I get an error message telling me either my userID or the password are incorrect.
Can anyone help me?

  • Moving Garageband Music Files to MyBook for Mac External Hard Drive on OSX 10.5.8  I'm a musician and need to make space on my mac hd. Is it safe to move music files there and delete them on the mac? Thanks!

use a MyBook for Mac external hard drive.
I need space on garageband or the entire hard drive, since I am getting the "need space on the hard drive" messages.
It's scary to move my precious music files!
How should I move them to the external and feel safe about doing so?
Or are there other methods besides the obvious, clearing caches, deleting the trash and downloads, etc., that are recommended?
I am doing music now and producers are waiting for the new vocals!
    Help!
    Thanks!

The process is as simple as just copying your Garageband project to the external drive and deleting from the macs hard drive. But before you delete anything you really need to back them up to someplace else also. Having just one copy is not safe. Get another external drive, DVDs or even flash drives, you absolutely need anything important in more then one place.

  • Hi, I am trying to connect a WD Mybook for Mac to my airport/time machine device.  On the AirPort Utility it listed under Disks at 0 Mb.  I enabled file sharing.  But nothing happens.  If I plug it directly into my MacBook it works fine.  How do I fix it?

I am trying to connect a WD Mybook for Mac to my airport/time machine device.  On the AirPort Utility it listed under Disks at 0 Mb.  I enabled file sharing.  And also followed all the steps - "secured disk access: with a disk passord", "Airport disk guest access: read and write", "Share disks over WAN". But nothing happens.  If I plug it directly into my MacBook it works fine.  How do I fix it?  Also, its connected via a powered usb hub.

I assume that you are using  Mac operating system 10.4.11, as your profile indicates.
The instructions that you referenced are for use with AirPort Utility....not AirPort Admin Utility.
Suggest that you download and install AirPort Utility 5.4.2 for Mac , which will run on 10.4.11.
Also noticed that the instructions do not tell you that the hard drive should be formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) to work with the AirPort Extreme, but they should.

  • Skype 6.3 upgrade for Mac not working

[Topic title updated by moderator to be more descriptive. Original topic title was: "Skype upgrade for Mac not working"]
BE WARNED - just because you are being asked to upgrade your Skype, it does not mean it will work on your machine. I am a fairly regular user of Skype and this morning was unable to log-in, being told that I needed to upgrade. I did so to 6.3.0.602 but I was unable to log-in once the software had downloaded. After some research on the forums and finally a text chat with Support, I was told that Skype 6.3.0.602 requires a Mac OSX of 10.9 or above - I have 10.5.8
"So what can I do", I asked the tech support. The answer is nothing (unless I get new OS X software) - there is no Skype software programme that supports my operating system and no timeframe for when it might be available.
Huh? That's right. It's just not available. So for now, users with less than OS X 10.9 will be unable to use Skype when they are instructed to upgrade. It really doesn't make sense. But just so you know....

Please look at the top of the community page, and you will find a box "Search:". Write your problem here "Upgrade not working" and see what crops up. Most likely you will be taken somewher like here: http://community.skype.com/t5/Mac/quot-We-ve-signed-you-out-because-your-using-an-outdated-version/m...
Here you will read that the latest versions of Skype will not work on some of the versions of MacOS, and that PPC requires one version, Leopard another, Snow leopard another, Mountain Lion another. They are indoctrinated with a stamp in their forehead to enforce their congregation of true believers to install the latest with all "security fixes" or death is looming. They are not used to software that is 2 years old.
So, with Mac, we have different operating systems and different sets of libraries - and things may go belly up if you upgrade - a OS feature is done differently, a libary has been placed inside the OS, and is no longer needed - and if you try to use it, you will be trapped.
Install the latest version that works for your Mac, and make sure to freeze this. Update the "info.plist" file and tell Skype that you use their latest should they pry. As long as it works, do not change anything!
And make the change to stop Skype from checking every time you start.

  • E3000 not seeing a WD MyBook for Mac external 2 TB hard drive

Just purchased a LinkSys e3000 router and WD My Book for Mac (+ WD Smartware) for the purpose of backing up my two MacBook Pros wirelessly.  The router works PERFECTLY for all other wireless and routing functions.
Bottom line, the LinkSys router can not access the USB external drive's partitions even though it can"see" the drive. (Clicking 'claim' does nothing)
Could this have something to do with the SES functionality and the required drivers - since I can not add any drivers to the router.
    1) Validated the router is working by plugging another WD MyBook essentials 1 Tb drive (PC version) and the routers sees multiple partitions.
    2) Worked with LinkSys tech support to verify router works with Mac journalized partitions and the router was working as designed
    3) Added a FAT volume on the MyBook Mac - still does not work with router
    4) Plugged MyBook Mac directly into the MacBook Pro - works fine (actually did a backup from both Mac Book Pro's 1 at a time via the USB direct connect)
    5) Turned off VCD - no luck on the router
Can anyone provide a suggestion before I return this drive back to WD?  I am at my wits end.
By the way, other than this problem with WD, I can highly recommend the LinkSys e3000.  Seriously HOT router with tremendous throughput.

  • WD My Passport for Mac not working in Yosemite

I have been using WD My Passport for Mac with my Mac Book Air for a few years. I suddenly found that my MBA cannot recognise my WD any more. I have searched WD site and was told that it should be the OS problem. I couldn't find similar question in apple community and even worst I couldn't find way to submit this problem to apple.
Is there any one facing similar problem? If so, please advise how to solve it or at least advise me how I can report the problem to apple. It seems to me that the WD is no longer compatible with the latest Mac OS.
    Thanks for help in advance.

I would disconnect the drive then restart the Mac in safe mode then do a restart normally.     OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? - Apple Support
This can solve some problems and is simple to do. If it still persists the best next step would be to connect the ext HDD to another Mac and see if it works. If it does not then suspect the drive has issues.

  • I Want to Buy Adobe Photoshop CS6 for Mac - NOT Creative Cloud

I just bought a new iMac and I would like to buy Adobe Photoshop CS6 for Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.2.  I am NOT interested in the monthly subscription for Creative Cloud, so please don't even try and sell that to me.  I was told by the place I bought my new iMac that Adobe would still sell me Photoshop CS6 if I contacted them.  Since I was unable to find a phone number to call, I thought I would try my luck on this forum.  Again, I was told that Adobe would send me a link or something like that where I can buy and download Photoshop CS6.  Since my new iMac does NOT have a CD/DVD-ROM drive, I would only be able to download the software.  I understand that the monthly subscription for Creative Cloud is the newest way of using Photoshop, but I am not interested in that at all.  I would greatly appreciate any and all assistance with this matter.  Thank you for your time and I anxiously await a response.
    Respectfully,
    Chris

  • Downloading Error Photoshop CC for Mac - Not permission to write to file

    Hi Guys
I've purchased a Adobe Creative Cloud membership and I'm trying to download Photoshop CC for Mac.
    It keeps telling me:
You're not allowed to write to Users/Alex/Library/Application support/Adobe. Please provide write permissions for this folder and try again.
Any ideas to how to solve this and continue with the download?
    Thanks

Get Info (command-I) on that directory and change the permissions to add write.
You may need to unlock this ability (there's a "lock" icon lower right). If your user doesn't have Admin status, you'll need to get the Admin to do this for you.

  • Why is my WD My Book for Mac not showing up on the finder after installing Mavericks?

I recently upgraded to Mavericks. I have a WD My Book. I had received emails from WD stating that the software from WD had to be removed from the Mac before installing Mavericks. So I waited until I received an email from WD saying they had resolved the issue. I upgraded to Mavericks and used the new Drive Manager and SmartWare software from WD. The software (WD) recognizes my iMac, but the WD My Book does not appear through their software or in the Finder on my iMac.
I've called WD twice and it seems they have no idea what to do. They replied with an email for software to recover my files. But I can't even see the files on the My Book drive to recover them. Is this a Mavericks issue? Do I need to download something from Apple? I don't think the issue is to recover files. It's just that the iMac is not recognizing the drive at all.
    Help!
    Thanks,
    Jose.

  • Firefox 3.5 for Mac not loading Apple Website

Just wondering why the Apple website won't load at all in Firefox 3.5 for Mac. It works fine in Safari. But not at all in Firefox. It's the only website I know that flat out won't load in Firefox. I want my movie trailers back.

Works just fine here for me. Maybe there's something broken in your Firefox installation. Try deleting it and downloading a fresh copy.

  • Lync 2011 for MAC not connecting externally to On-Premise Lync 2013

    Hello,
Hopefully someone has some idea on this or a better direction for me to follow. So currently I have an issue where Lync 2011 for MAC clients will not connect when external to my On-Premise Lync 2013 servers. Everything to do with my Windows based clients
and even cell phone based client’s works just fine. It is currently only Lync 2011 for MAC which will not correct externally.
I did initially have the logon problem internally as noted by other posts online when using an internal CA certificate with Lync. But with the internal certificate imported onto the MAC when internally connected Lync 2011 will login just fine. Now in my
setup I do have a TMG server that clients are connecting to that forwards the connections onto my Lync servers when connecting externally. When I review live real time logs to see what’s connecting to the external URL for Windows based clients I can see them
connect in on port 443 no problem.
But with the MAC I don’t see any attempt from it to connect to the URL like I see with the Windows clients. Now below is what shows up in the Microsoft-Lync.log generated by the MAC. Now initially looking at the log I thought my problem was the fact when
Lync 2011 tires to connect when external that it was doing so on port 5061 which we don’t have open. So I tired entering external.mydomain.com:443 in for my external server in the setup.
And while rechecking the log after doing so shows like it is now trying to connect on port 443. When reviewing TMG I again see no connection attempt by the MAC to connect to the Lync external url or on port 443. Further research so far into the problem has
come up empty on the subject. And most other cases where people report problems connecting externally they are using some form of online service like Office 365. So at this point I am not even sure if Lync 2011 for MAC is supposed to work externally with On-Premise
Lync 2013 deployments or not. If anyone has an thought’s or idea’s please share them as at this point I am stuck on this issue.

    Hi Nicholas Sayewich,
I tested in my lab and without any problem.
I also use TMG as Reverse Proxy and without configuring SRV records (My ISP don’t support SRV), after importing the root certificate onto MacBook, I can sign into Lync everywhere(internal
    and external).
Please make sure that the certificate is set up to
    Always Trust .

  • JSP demo PTS included with Oracle 9i Developer Release for Mac not working

Hello all, please pardon my ignorance, but I am an Oracle DBA not a JSP programmer.
I have installed Oracle 9i developer release for Mac OSX and it included a demo application in JSP called pts.
I followed all the instruction and it still doesn't seem to work.
When I try to login to the application I get the following exception:
    exception
org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP
An error occurred at line: 3 in the jsp file: /oradev/pts/solmktinit.inc
    Generated servlet error:
[javac] Since fork is true, ignoring compiler setting.
    [javac] Compiling 1 source file
[javac] Since fork is true, ignoring compiler setting.
    [javac] /usr/local/jakarta-tomcat-4.1.24/work/Standalone/localhost/_/oradev/pts/login_jsp.java:7: cannot resolve symbol
    [javac] symbol : class DBAccess
    [javac] location: package pts
    [javac] import oradev.pts.DBAccess;
I'm not sure what this means or how to fix it. I'm sure it's something simple like modifying my classpath or something, but, as I said, I don't know where to begin.
Any assistance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Can't you just use the 10g client ?
I have not tested the 9i dev. with oci calls but I would not be surprised if you try this on tiger. That won't work AFAIK.
    regards,
    Ronald.
